Opened in January 2009, the Howard Assembly Room at Opera North is Leeds’ beautiful new home for the arts. A rich and inspiring programme showcases the wealth of today’s international arts scene. New commissions, exhibitions, music, readings, film, performance and debates bring the world’s most innovative artists and thinkers to this intimate, atmospheric Grade II* listed hall in the heart of Leeds.

Internationally renowned multimedia artists United Visual Artists fill the Howard Assembly Room with light, pendulums and a Mira Calix soundtrack. See also: Trace, by young architects Amenity space, an interactive light installation which transforms the new glass bridge between the Grand Theatre and Opera North.

The VOICES series offers encounters with some of today’s most adventurous and imaginative vocal artists. The programme of concerts and film presents extraordinary singers from a wide range of musical backgrounds who explore astonishing local styles, techniques and genres. Our Sing ON projects invite you to find your own voice. VOICES is for everyone who’d like to indulge in and experience the beauty, variety and wealth of the human voice.

Sing some of the most rousing choruses from Verdi’s last three tragic masterpieces: Don Carlos, Aida and Otello with the Chorus of Opera North, led by Chorus Master Tim Burke.

Britain’s most charismatic and imaginative all-girl group present an evening of their own favourite songs and music, including a guest performance by their favourite English folk band: the sensational Wilson Family.
