Healing: Finding a process to revitalise the landscape and those who inhabit • Maribyrnong Victoria • M-Arch, Thesis, Supervisor Yvonne Meng.
A relic of colonial settlement, the site at Jack’s Magazine sits detached, a record of centuries of industrial practice. Built from bluestone mined from the site and its adjacent hills, a scarring is present both above and below the earth. One potential solution is shifting the paradigm around the value placed on built heritage. Baracco and Wright in their latest biennale project writes ‘When we conserve or memorialise through heritage practises (sic) inevitably a displacement occurs,’ This thesis will focus on is the value to be found in the landscape, and how architecture can facilitate the process of remediation at Jacks Magazine

More Architecture: Naked Salad • Vancouver, BC, Ca. • M-Arch, Studio C, ‘Turning’. Coordinator, Rennie Liffen.
Naked Salad is an exercise to create an architecture of empathy, one that evokes tolerance and empowerment while eroding existing social stigmas. Set in a parallel world from ours, where human experiences have been dulled and muted by eras of social pressure to conform. The narrative follows a group of individuals and reveals the potential for architecture to ‘strip away’ our preconditioning and to unlock forgotten senses. The garden and bath draw Inspiration from Susan Sontag’s manifesto on ‘Camp’, embodying ideas of humour and parody while celebrating the excess and extravagance to be enjoyed in the everyday. The Sleeping Body • Melbourne VIC, AU. • M-Arch, Studio D, ‘PostHuman Gestures’. Coordinator, Lauren Adams & David Fedyk
Rebelling against the modernist ideal of the perfect body, this studio utilised a robotic process to capture and explore new ways of interpreting space for ‘other bodies’. The sleeping body aims to provide a space of refuge in the city that would allow for public sleeping. Catering for different reservations, the structure conditions the visual and accoustic micro-climates to be suitable for sleeping. Wrapped around the existing historic Royal Society. The building utilises new scientific construction techniques employing a continous self supporting carbon fibre shell structure. Lined with brass pannels to the interior, the panels capture streakes of water running down over time to distort and dissolve the perception of the buildings physical boundary. Opposite: View into the courtyard between the existing and the new fabric.

Broadbeach Surf Life Saving Club • Broadbeach Surf Club, Gold Coast, Qld • Third Year Studio Coordinator, Timothy O’Rouke
An investigation into the Australian summer and the iconic surf clubs along the Queensland East Coast. Interviews were conducted with the staff and existing users at the surf club. After assessing the want and needs, multiple proposals were explored. A conclusion was then reached that a new building was deemed necessary. The proposal draws upon the materials and form of the neighborhood bungalows. The design was driven by programming needs, having clear distinctions of public/ private, offices, club space and storage as well as additional program for dormitories. Taking advantage of the location, a cafe and event space were introduced as alternatives to pokies that have plagued other clubs on the coast. Above: Surf club viewed from the street. Bondi Beach House
• AC-CA Sydney Container Vacation House • Team, Tahj Rosmarin, Thomas Mclaughlin & Estelle Peters.
Exploring potential of the container module. The building responds to the containers inherent structural nature in spanning and cantilevering. Each container dictate the orientation and view to major landmarks around Bondi Beach. The proposal takes cues from the lighthouse, while functioning as a residence, the building also serves as a marker in the landscape on the peninsular site. Rising vertically from the site. Encampment
• Yarramalong, Charlwood, Qld • First Year Studio Co-ordinator, Michael Dickson
Encampment was a response to the Australian bush. Existing opportunities and patterns were recorded and the site surveyed, various programs was to be arranged into the bush setting including ablutions, kitchen and a banquet pavilion. Existing paths were abstracted to form the promenade architecturale, leading one to experience all the intimacies the bush. The path ultimately leads to a circular clearing. Responding to this, a dome of the classical order, in modern vernacular timber battens and glass, creates a place of stillness in the myriad of vegetation and through the oculus, offers a glimpse to the opening above.

Colour Wheel
• Recycled Pine, Acrylic, Neodymium Magnet, PLA, Bees Wax, Water Cress Seed, LED Light Strip,
Selected for the BauhausNow Exhibition, at the Buxton Contemporay, the work was formed with guidance from Phillip Goad and the research into theories behind the Bauhaus. Colour Wheel’ introduces toddlers and pre-schoolers to the concept of light and colour through unstructured play. The world filtered through Interchangeable colour lenses promotes discovery and posteriori understanding of the abstract colour wheel. Rotating the lenses constructs endless compositions and aesthetics drawing inspiration from Hirshfeld Mack’s ‘Colour Light Plays’ while also paying homage to Clement Meadmore’s toy the ‘Rainbow Box!’
