(SNAPI) is excited to have you join us for our 27th Annual PRIDE Celebration. “Proud to be…” is our theme this year as we encourage all to take pride in themselves and in their community by expressing what they are each individually proud to be. As a board, we are both proud and honored to be able to direct the growth of this outstanding organization. Each of the non-compensated board members volunteers countless hours to ensure a successful and enjoyable PRIDE Week for all. Due to the success of PRIDE 2009, we were able to donate a large amount of money back to the community throughout the year. This year we return to the beautiful Clark County Amphitheater for our 2010 PRIDE Festival. SNAPI’s Las Vegas PRIDE Idol is your chance to show off your talent and win a chance to be in the spotlight at the 2010 PRIDE Festival. The finalists of SNAPI’s 6th Annual PRIDE Idol competition will be able to perform on stage at our 2010 PRIDE Festival on May 1. To get there, singers compete in grueling preliminary rounds every Sunday and Monday from 10 p.m. to midnight beginning in March. For several weeks, contestants sing in front of a panel of judges who decide which contestants would advance to the next round or be eliminated. The toughest challenge is yet to come. Finalists must convince a special panel of judges that they deserve the spotlight at the 2010 PRIDE Festival. Finalists selected on Sunday, April 18 will go on to perform on stage at the 2010 PRIDE Festival. The Aruba Hotel & Spa 1215 South Las Vegas Boulevard Friday, April 23 | 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Admission $20 For years now, the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada has held an Annual Art Show as part of the Las Vegas PRIDE Celebration, and this year will be no exception. However, when the event returns on Friday, April 23, it will be with a new name—ARTrageous Vegas!—an art extravaganza and a new attitude. “Traditionally, our art show has focused on local artists, and was held at The Center,” said Candice Nichols, Executive Director of The Center. “This year, as we’re revisiting all our fund-raising events, we decided to give our little event a face lift, growing it to explore art in its many forms.” The event will be moving from The Center to The Aruba and will showcase art from local talents as part of a program that will include visual and performance art, culinary art, body painting, music, food and much more. “Moving to The Aruba provides us with the great opportunity of creating different areas and moods through which we’ll invite all in attendance to take in different forms of art and to challenge how it’s defined,” explains Desiree Duncan, one of the event coordinators. “We’ve got a full evening planned, which includes not only the art exhibit but various performances, demonstrations, and will go well into the wee hours of the morning with a cabaret featuring some of the talent that can be seen nightly at one of the many Las Vegas Strip shows. One thing’s for sure: we are expanding the realm of art and there will be something there for everyone!” While Desiree remains guarded about the details of the evening’s program to preserve the element of surprise, she confirms that the event will remain as accessible and inclusive as possible. “This is a community event,” she says, “and will remain representative of the great talent that exists right here in Las Vegas.” The event will have a local flavor, but its organizers hope that this expanded program will also appeal to neighboring communities, attracting people from California, Arizona and Utah. “Promoting the event out-of-market will not be our priority but it is part of our overall strategy,” confirms Candice. “With the unique program we are putting together, and the other PRIDE events planned for the following days, I can’t think of a better time to plan a Las Vegas weekend getaway.” Desiree sums it best: “We’re very excited about the direction that ARTrageous Vegas! is taking. Of course, it’s always a little daunting to take an event in a new direction, but we’ve got a solid team, a great theme and an amazing slate of talents lined up; so we’re very confident that we will have a great event this year, a great foundation on which to build in the future.”

Lone Mountain Park | Group Area “A” 4445 North Jensen Street Saturday, April 24 | Noon to 5 p.m. Join Betty’s Outrageous Adventures (Las Vegas’ largest lesbian social group) on Saturday, April 24 from noon to 5 p.m. at Lone Mountain Park, Group Area “A” for an afternoon picnic surrounded by the ladies. Bring your kite, join us for a round of water balloon tossing, or try your hand at volleyball. Heck, you can even bring your Scrabble or Monopoly. The Betty’s and SNAPI will provide hot dogs and hamburgers with all the fixings as well as soda and water for attendees free of charge (while supplies last). Feel free to bring the kids, a dish to share and enjoy the day with your family and friends. Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) has led the AIDS Walk for over twenty years. Individual Walkers and Walk Team numbers have grown significantly, sponsorships by local businesses and organizations continue to increase, and public awareness rises with every walk. Today there is newfound hope in the fight against AIDSâ&#x20AC;&#x201D;but still no cure. Some people with HIV/ AIDS are living longer thanks to new therapies. Tragically, the new treatments do not work for everyone, and HIV continues to spread at an alarming rate. Las Vegas PRIDE is proud to walk with AFAN to help raise funding in the fight against AIDS and invites you to join with us as we walk to raise awareness and funding for this worthy cause. Immediately following the AFAN AIDS Walk, Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is once again holding its annual HRC Family ReUNION Picnic. This year the picnic will take place at the World Market Center, right where the AFAN AIDS Walk ends. 42 PRIDE Week Events Threads of the Community Fundraiser Benefitting the Community Counseling Center KRAVE Nightclub 3663 Las Vegas Blvd South Monday, April 26 | 6 p.m. Admission $20 Community Counseling Center’s “Threads of the Community” fashion show fund-raiser will be held at KRAVE Nightclub on Monday, April 26. Doors open at 6 p.m. General admission is $20. VIP seating and bottle service will also be available. Ticket purchases are tax deductible as CCC is a 501(C)(3). For more information visit www.cccofsn.org. Now in its fourth year, the event is ready to amaze the audience with elaborate fashion, video and live performances, and great food. There will also be an award presentation as well as silent and live auctions. The Community Counseling Center is a great and needed resource in our community. PRIDE (& Prejudice) is a photo essay by Lamar Marchese documenting the June 2009 Gay PRIDE Parade in St. Petersburg, Fla., one of the largest such events in the southeast. It focuses primarily on parade participants and spectators and secondarily on protestors. The photos are intended to illustrate and celebrate the wondrous diversity of humanity—gay and straight, male and female, young and old, singles and couples, African-American, Hispanic and Asian minorities and sub-groups within the gay and lesbian community—and at the same time, capture the joy of American citizens exercising their hard-won freedom to publically advertise their pride. The day is tempered, however, by those few who use religion to condemn, a sad reminder that the struggle for equal rights for all of our citizens is far from over. Grandstand at 4th Street and Bridger Avenue Friday, April 30 | 8pm More grand than any other PRIDE parade ever held in Las Vegas, it’s SNAPI’s 12th Annual PRIDE Night Parade! Join us on April 30 from 8 to 10 p.m. in downtown Las Vegas for the most glamorous, glittering spectacle ever created by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community of Southern Nevada. This year’s PRIDE Night Parade features Las Vegas’ gay and straight business community, nonprofit organizations, LGBT service agencies, civic groups, and churches as well as SNAPI’s newly crowned adult and youth royalty. Donít forget to come early for the pre-party at the Fremont Street Experience and, when the parade ends, make sure to keep the party going at the Fremont Street Experience where special entertainment has been lined up for the evening. The parade route begins at West Charleston Boulevard and heads north along 4th Street to Ogden Avenue. Secure your spot where the action happens early. The main stage is at Bridger Avenue just two blocks south of the Fremont Street Experience. Clark County Government Center 500 South Grand Central Parkway Saturday, May 1 | Noon to 10 p.m. Celebrate Diversity at SNAPI’s PRIDE Festival 2010 where everyone is welcome. LGBT families, couples, and singles along with their friends and straight allies come together for an entire day of fabulous fun at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater (just west of downtown Las Vegas and the world-famous Fremont Street Experience). After the overwhelmingly positive response from last year’s PRIDE, we are again holding the PRIDE Festival at this wonderful venue. The Clark County Amphitheater features a beautiful outdoor main stage surrounded by soft, cool grass, plus a food court and convenient drink stations. There will be more than 100 vendors’ exhibits on site. You can relax on the lawn as you are entertained by the festival’s featured performers, as well as great local talent. In order to accommodate larger attendance, the festival grounds have been expanded to include more booth space, an additional dance tent and a second stage. We are also pleased to announce the expansion of the Family Activity Zone filled with fun activities for parents and children 12 and under. Thanks to an evolving partnership with Crush, Las Vegas PRIDE joins with the growing trend of smokefree PRIDE celebrations across the country. Crush promotes a fresh and smokefree lifestyle amongst the Las Vegas Community. It is with their help that we have adopted a smokefree policy for the PRIDE Festival and created designated smoking areas.

2009 PRIDE Festival

Las Vegas Pride 2010 is in its “Greenest” year ever. With the success of last year’s recycle program, RENUoil of America has offered its services once again. RENUoil’s commitment has grown over last year making them a Blue Level Sponsor. RENUoil will be donating the labor hours of a team of their employees that will work with their portable sorting table. All bags of trash will be collected and then sorted by RENUoil’s Recycle Team. They will recycle all of our plastic water, beer and soda bottles as well as all aluminum, paper and cooking oil from our food vendors. This will prevent potentially thousands of pounds of recyclable materials from ever hitting the Las Vegas Landfill. 62 Festival Entertainment Frenchie Davis

Frenchie Davis is originally from Los Angeles, Calif. She got her start as a theatre student at Howard University. Entering her senior year, she auditioned for the second season of what was then a relatively new television show, American Idol. She made it to the finals and, after leaving the show, worked as a 2003 Grammy Correspondent for Entertainment Tonight! Frenchie then went on to perform on Broadway for four years in the Tony-Award winning musical, RENT. She also has been on tour in productions of Dreamgirls and, most recently, played the Nell Carter role in the hit Broadway play, Ain’t Misbehavin’. Additionally, Frenchie has become known for being a most outspoken advocate for the rights of the gay community and has performed at numerous gay prides and clubs all over the country, as well as numerous HRC and GLAAD events.

Worthie Paul “Momma” Meacham III

In Chicago, there’s a lyric that goes “When you’re good to Momma, Momma’s good to you.” As someone who loves giving, making you smile and laugh more than you’d like, Worthie created Momma to bring much needed life to those who needed to be shown that there is love, that they are appreciated, that they are special. For the past 17 years, Momma has moved out of the gay bar circuit and into the main stream. Being in demand and expanding her repertoire, Momma has appeared in the opera Il Pagliacci for Franco Zefferelli, and as Carmen for the Los Angeles Opera and National Opera. She also made special appearances on many television shows , including Will & Grace twice, and has been seen in many music videos, including Aerosmith’s iconic “Pink” music video. And this fall, you can see Momma playing the Matron in Women Behind Bars at the Celebration Theatre.

Kaci Battaglia

Kaci Battaglia is not your average “new artist.” In many respects, she’s not new—certainly not if new implies a lack of experience: By the time she was 13, she had already toured the world and had several top ten singles. But one thing is for sure, this 21-year-old singer/ songwriter is an amazing artist. 2009 brought Kaci to radio with the hit single “Crazy Possessive.” Kaci says, “My single, which I co-wrote with producer Michael Grant, is electropop with an edge—definitely aggressive, which fits the song, but a lot of fun. It is a strong topic with a positive message, and hopefully a lot of girls will be able to relate to it.”

Matt Annecharico

Matt Annecharico began performing in theater and behind the pulpit at the young age of 2. As he matured, he made his way to national television, independent films and finally radio commercials. Matt then chose to conquer the music scene when he began writing for his current album, Mirrors, an album about self-realization and acceptance. The ten track album, for which Matt penned five songs, was nominated for “Pop Album of the Year” at the 2009 Los Angeles Music Awards. He walked away with “Pop Single of the Year” for the first track “Honestly” and “Pop Artist of the Year.” One dollar for every Mirrors album sold is donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

At 21, Brendan Velasquez knows what he wants. He has set out to reach his goal: a career in the music business. With his determination, ambition and talent, there is not much that can stop this young man from reaching and moving people through music. Brendan released a full-length CD in the summer of 2008 titled Livin’ Out Loud. Filled with more than 13 songs ranging from pop/dance with a hint of rock to R&B with a techno flavor, there is something for everyone who loves great music.

Open Artist Movement The Open Artist Movement (OAM) is uniting innovative, unique artists with cutting edge design and technology to inspire and delight audiences while elevating pop music to new levels of artistic credibility. Wilson Cruz Wilson Cruz first won the hearts of audiences playing Rickie, a troubled, introspective teenager on the critically acclaimed series, My So-Called Life. He again earned fans and critical acclaim for his role of Angel in RENT, which he began at the Ahmanson Theatre in LA and continued on Broadway. RENT became a theatrical phenomenon, winning both the Tony and Pulitzer Prize for Best Musical, while Wilson received the Theatre LA Ovation Award and the Dramalogue Award for his performance. While theatre audiences enjoyed the opening night of RENT, television audiences simultaneously appreciated Wilson’s widely ranging talent, with his dramatic and memorable guest appearance as a tortured transvestite airing on a special Christmas episode of David E. Fanny Pak Los Angeles-based Fanny Pak formed gradually as a group of friends who took classes together and eventually started to perform for fun.
