INNOVATORS


INNOVATORS A team of initiators, researchers and discerning supporters of creative ideas, with a firm attentive eye on the future. This is Carpenè Malvolti. The company has always been in the technological forefront and for over 140 years has been committed to the study of viticulture and oenology for the purpose of exalting the value of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG. Since 2005 it has taken on the task of developing an ambitious project known as “L’Arte Spumantistica”.

1868 - 1900 The first of four generations and founder of the company, Antonio Carpenè Senior introduced into Italy the Champenoise method for the production of sparkling wines and created the first Oenology School in Italy, based in Conegliano. 1901- 1945 The second generation revealed Etile Carpenè Senior as a determined initiator of the first advertising campaigns in the world of wine. It was due to him that in 1924 Carpenè Malvolti produced the first labels carrying the denomination “Prosecco amabile dei Colli di Conegliano”, anticipating by almost a century the modern-day exaltation of indigenous grape varieties. Under his guidance our steam distillery was set up and the famous pumpkin shaped grappa bottle created.


1946 – 1986 The third generation is represented by Antonio Carpenè Junior, who created the Carpenè method known as “thermal reactivation” for preserving bottled sparkling wine, which has been adopted by the main Italian sparkling wine producers. He founded the Classic Method Institute and the Consortium for the Protection of Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene and promoted awareness of Prosecco on the Italian market. Antonio Carpenè Junior, was also the first to take Prosecco on television in the popular advertising programme “Carosello” in the early 60s. 1987 - today The third millennium finds new inspiration and stimulus in Etile Carpenè Junior, who cleverly united the skilled artisan production of Prosecco DOCG and the advanced technologies of the most successful wine industries. He has introduced a managerial approach to running the company, entrusted to a team of young professionals who in any case have great respect for the family tradition and values.

L’Arte Spumantistica It involves important research and development activities carried out by the house council of oenologists, under the careful expert guidance of Etile Carpenè Jr. This is a unique ten-year project, set up with the aim of seeking excellent new wines suitable for processing by the most advanced sparkling wine processing methods. “L’Arte Spumantistica” is the realization of a wish to interpret and satisfy the taste and style of every “lover of good wine”, creating a product that represents individual preferences and produces a wine that can become a favourite sparkling wine. Every year Carpenè Malvolti challenges tradition and custom by placing on the market a product of superior quality never before processed as a sparkling wine, made exclusive and rare by the valuable raw materials used, and rich in unusual flavours and aromas. It is a valuable, exciting and curious discovery, greatly appreciated also by new generations throughout the world.

Being a family sparkling wine producer for over a century means offering and taking advantage of valuable experience and culture, based on study, commitment, rigour, broad views and a healthy sense of reality. But it also means sharing and transmitting, inside and outside the company, all those values that come together as wealth and strength. Respect, trust, passion, wisdom, courage, loyalty and co-operation are the qualities that distinguish Carpenè Malvolti and on which all its actions, choices and relationships are based.


THE FAMILY Carpenè Malvolti has always had a privileged relationship with its territory and the over 100 historic wine grape farmers in the hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. This is a deep-rooted link, founded on reciprocal trust and close collaboration that is renewed every year at harvest time, without the need for written agreements. The uniqueness, genuineness and superior quality of Carpenè Malvolti products are the result of our wine grape farmers’ knowledge and hard work united with the expert skills of the company’s agronomists and oenologists.

At the Follina winery, must and prime selected wines are collected and controlled temperature vinification takes place using the most advanced methods of modern oenology. The Conegliano winery is home to the company HQ, administration and production, and here sparkling wines are made according to the Charmat and Classic Method, and distillates are aged in the wineries and then bottled. The two wineries provide the company with a total storage capacity of over 50,000 hl.

Raw materials

“Quality is first and foremost a way of thinking.” This does not mean simply producing a “great wine” but reasoning, planning and acting in order to achieve excellence throughout the company: control of raw materials, production, distribution, logistics, research and development, advertising, customer service, managerial skill and ethics. This guarantee of total quality can only yield products of absolute excellence.

Carpenè Malvolti chooses musts and wines exclusively from the most dedicated and historic zones of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, through manual grape-picking that allows careful selection of the bunches, and the use of hygienic technical means for transport to the wineries. It uses yeasts accurately selected by the Carpenè Malvolti Council of Oenologists for prise de mousse according to an exclusive house recipe, with top quality cane sugar. Production Only highly reliable, latest generation equipment is used. Perfect isobaric system controlled by advanced technologies to ensure maintenance of the right pressure levels. Temperatures are constantly controlled up to the bottling and packaging stages.

Logistics

Organization and capillary distribution are two important quality factors for a company that wishes to increase its value and fully meet the requirements of customers and consumers in a global market. In 2010 Carpenè Malvolti signed an agreement with the Gruppo Italiano Vini for distribution on the Italian market, confirming its leadership in Prosecco Superiore DOCG segments and in Arte Spumantistica. At international level it operates an articulated professional network of importers and distributors in over 48 countries, with record sales for Carpenè Malvolti quality products in Switzerland, Quebec-Canada, the United States, England, Venezuela, Japan and Australia.

Company functions are coordinated by a computerised system that ensures correct programming of the processing stages and control of the volumes in stock in the warehouses, the storage time and modes of transport, with the aim of safeguarding the finest quality.

Research and Development Carpenè Malvolti invests regularly in innovation through a targeted strategy of research and development that involves people, equipment and financial resources in a view of continuous improvement for its products and the development of new wines. A spirit and modus operandi that have distinguished the company since its origins and for which it is still renowned on the Italian and international markets.

Advertising The company was one of the first businesses in the wine making sector to perceive the importance of advertising, presenting its products right from the start in the most important media and developing specific public relations activities. The image of the company and its products and advertising are two essential means - for conveying correctly and effectively to customers and consumers the personality, uniqueness and value of the brand; - for creating identity, distinctiveness and credibility over time. Together with the most important Italian wineries, Carpenè Malvolti is a member of the Istituto Grandi Marchi for the promotion of culture and trade of top quality Italian wines on world markets. It is also a founding member of the Academy of Grappa and Spirits.

The Council Of Oenologists, traditionally chosen from the graduates from the Conegliano Oenology School, guarantees careful selection of base wine in cuveè and prise de mousse, supervised by a member of the Carpenè family.
