Neighborhoods Yemin Moshe - Mishkenot Shaananim The first Jerusalem neighborhood built outside the Old City walls back in the mid 1800s by Sir Moses Montefiore. It overlooks the Old City walls, and today is populated by artists, after extensive renovations. The landmark Montefiore Windmill, which was built to generate income for the local population, still stands, as does a display of Montefiore’s chariot that he used when in Israel. This charming neighborhood is a favorite place to stroll and hear the tales of Jerusalem of Old.

Old City of Jerusalem Continuously settled by at least a core of religious Jews (save from numerous interruptions) for almost 3000 years, the old city of Jerusalem is the story of Jewish glory and devastation, with each stone telling a unique story. Highlights of any tour include the Kotel, the Hurva, and the Cardo, which tell the trials and tribulations of our nation throughout our tumultuous history.

Nachalaot The most eclectic neighborhood in Jerusalem. Nachlaot is a composite of a number of smaller neighborhoods, and as diverse a neighborhood as you will find anywhere, with hippie types and devoutly religious Jews living side by side. From the early Yemenite settlers, to the Eastern European Jews, to the students of Bezalel Art Academy, each one has carved their own niche and carried on their individual tradition. Come see the people and walk the quaint streets of a neighborhood that sings so many different tales!

Bucharim Established in 1891 by Jews from the Russian Caucasus, the Bukharim section was built as a luxury neighborhood, not only surpassing its poor neighbors in Mea Shearim and Geula but even European standards of the day. Bukharim may be from the most interesting neighborhoods in the city and certainly worth a tour of its abundance of landmarks.

Shaarei Chesed Established in the early 1900’s, with its cornerstone laid by the then Chief Rav of Yerushalayim Rav Shmuel Salant, the neighborhood quickly gained fame thanks to the piety of its residents. Come see the homes and hear the stories of its stars from Betzalel the Holy milkman to the tzaddik Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach and his brother-in-law Rav Shalom Schwadron. But come fast as the original neighborhood is disappearing, with lavish homes taking its place.

Har HaMenuchot Cemetery Not exactly what most people refer to as a neighborhood, but on the outskirts of Yerushalayim is one of the “liveliest” neighborhoods in the city. Here you will meet the great personalities who made Yerushalayim what it is today, as well as legendary Jewish leaders from the entire world who were brought here to be interred. You will be awestruck standing at their feet and hearing their stories, and praying for your needs in their merit. They may not communicate with us directly, and we cannot enter their homes, but through their words and accomplishments they are still among us, alive and well!

Private Guided Tours Mea Shearim-Geula Although just a few hundred meters separates the Ben Yehuda the Mea Shearim neighborhoods, these two neighborhoods are many worlds and many centuries apart. Stroll the streets and be taken back to the lost world of the Shtetl, or at least as close as you can get to it in the 21st century. But be aware not to offend the locals or their sensitivities, as they are fiercely protective of their lifestyle and their adherence to modest dress.

First Train Station Built on the site of the old train station, this area has been transformed to a hub of boutiques, cafes, restaurants, performances, and activities for young and old alike. It is also a starting point for some great touring opportunities in Jerusalem. You can also rent bicycles and traverse Baka and the German Colony all the way down to the Zoo, along a magnificent bike path that wouldn’t believe exists in the heart of the city. Or you can jump on a Segway and zip around Yemin Moshe, Talbiyeh and the Old City.

Kotel Tunnels The visible part of the Western Wall is merely the tip of the iceberg. Come on a fascinating tour of the Western Wall Tunnels, where hidden layers of the original Wall are revealed underground. They tell the story of ancient Jerusalem and of generations of longing for it. While there, visitor can also take in the Generations Center, where you will enjoy a moving experience that relates the fascinating story of the Jewish people throughout the generations. Guests to the center will find an unusual and enchanting fusion of many creative elements including music, sculpture, archeology and light effects that together create a masterpiece to delight all the senses.

Ir Dovid - City of David This historic archaeological grounds is enjoyed by the whole family from children to adults. See and feel the history of Yerushalayim from the days Dovid captured it from the Yevusi. See remnants, as well as complete homes, from Jerusalem of old. One of the big attractions is Chizkiyahu’s tunnels, carved through solid rock, which brought water to Yerushalayim from the Shilo well.

III. Children in Jerusalem & Beyond When there is so much to see and do in Israel, lots of it is lost on the kids. Here is a collection of things the kids will love, and parents as well. Most them are Israel related while some are, well… just plain fun!

Israel Museum The Israel Museum is ranked among the world’s leading art and archaeology museums. The Museum houses encyclopedic collections, including works dating from prehistory to the present day, in its Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Jewish Art and Life Wings, and features the most extensive holdings of biblical and Holy Land archaeology in the world. The highlight of the museum is the Shrine of the Book, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls and other rare manuscripts. Adjacent to the Shrine is the Model of Jerusalem in the Second Temple Period, which reconstructs the topography and architectural character of the city as it was prior to its destruction by the Romans in 66 CE, and provides historical context to the Shrine’s presentation of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Machaneh Yehuda Market This feast of the senses will make your head spin. It is more than just a collection of fresh produce, it is a ingathering of the Israeli culture. Aside from luscious fruits and vegetables you will find cheese, wine, halva, nuts and exotic spices and seeds, coffee, and a wild assortment of breads from different cultures. Stall owners hail from all parts of the world, and the array is magnificent. The crowd and noise swallow you up. You don’t walk through the Shuk, you live it and breathe it!

Eretz Bereishit In a magical place in the desert right outside Jerusalem, the children don ancient garb and relive biblical times. Biblical Zoo Enter the zoo to a beautiful duck pond and a bunch playing monkeys. IV. Israel Beyond Jerusalem The entire Israel can be driven in hours yet it encompasses such a diverse range of landscapes, attractions, and activities.

Beyond Jerusalem

Galil Dubbed the Tuscany of Israel, the Galil is densely populated with fertile mountains and streams. This area became the main population center during the Tannaic period, after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. Aside from its beautiful scenic hikes, the Galil hosts many Holy sites of Judaism, including the mystical city of Safed and the Holy burial site of Rebbi Shimon bar Yochai at the foot of Mount Meiron, to where over half a million people make there way to on Lag Ba’Omer. You can also visit Amuka the gravesite of Yonason ben Uziel, where it is said that all those who come to pray there, merit to find their marriage partner within a short time. The Galil is also home to Tiveria and the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee). Tiveria is a favored destination all to itself. One of the favorite activities is kayaking along the Jordan river. In the upper Galil don’t miss the Manara Cliffs with its action park for kids, including rappelling and an omega zip line.

Judean Desert Beginning just on the outskirts of Jerusalem and visible from Jerusalem, the Judean Desert is home to the Dead Sea and some of the most famous historic sites in Israel. Some of the highlights are the Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found and Masada where the famous last stand took place during the Roman revolt. You can hike in magnificent desert landscapes, including Nachal Prat, Arugot, and the treacherous Darja. For families there is Ein Gedi, the desert oasis with waterfalls, and of course the incredible Dead Sea. The Judean Desert is also the place to go for adventurous Jeep tours, especially around the Har Sedom area.

Tel Aviv Tel Aviv and it surrounding cities, together called Gush Dan, is certainly the most “happening” region in country. This beachside city is the entertainment, shopping, and financial capital with its skyscrapers and malls. On its southern tip lies historic Old Yafo and to its north is the yuppie hitech center Herzliya. There are plenty of restaurants, parks, markets, and museums to keep you busy when you are not walking the streets of its unique neighborhoods.

Golan This lush and scenic plateau overlooking the Kinneret from one side, and Syria on the other side, is a favorite destination for locals, who appreciate the vast activities, serene hiking trails, and unique climate. It hosts Israel’s world famous wineries and is a perfect lookout spot for magnificent migrating birds, including eagles. On the Golan you will find the breathtaking trails with waterfalls and streams of the Banias, El Al, Zavitan, and Meshushim. You can drive up to Mount Bental overlooking Syria, as well as Mount Hermon which offers skiing in the winter. There are also numerous historic sites to visit including the ancient cities of Katzrin and Gamla.

Shopping! Whether you are hunting for gifts, or to treat yourself, or just want to go window shopping, Jerusalem has shopping to suit your fancy.

Other Areas Hevron is the home of the Me’oras haMachpela the cave of the patriarchs. Kever Rochel on the outskirts of Gilo is a sacred place to pray. Mount Carmel the scenic forest plateau alongside the Mediterranean Sea stretching North to the busting mountain and seaside city city of Haifa. The Western Galilee includes the scenic Rosh HaNikra cliffs on Israel’s northwestern border as well as Acco the walled seaside city with its infamous prison. Beit She’an in the upper Jordan Valley with its vast Roman and Byzantine remains. The Jezreel Valley including Mount Tavor and Mount Gilbo’a. Caesarea another treasure trove from Roman times. Netanya with its beaches and seaside promenade. Hula Valley and its flocks of migrant birds, and down south in the Negev the Rimon Crater and Eilat.

Mamilla Pedestrian only outdoor boulevard with high end shops and boutiques fashion, beauty and luxury items just outside the Old City’s historic Jaffa Gate. Sprkling clean and luxuriously built, with a nice selection of mid to high range restaurants and coffee shops.

Kenyon Malcha Cavernous three floor indoor mall. Many brand clothing stores as well as other large chain stores. Has a food court, coffee shops, as well as merchandise sold on tables around the mall. Their is a play area for kids as well.

Ben Yehuda Pedestrian Mall Sprawling pedestrian mall taking up an entire neighborhood in the center of town adjacent to the light rail. It is the locals’ favorite relaxation spot, with many gift shops and eateries.

Chutzot HaYotzer The artist colony next to Mamilla Mall is the place to go to find sculptures, photographs, paintings, drawings, metalwork, embroidery, ceramics, decorative weaving and plenty of Judaica. You can meet the artist is this quaint alleyway. If you are around in the summer you don’t want to miss the fair!

Cinema City The newest attraction in Jerusalem, this multimillion dollar construction project includes all the hi-tech trimmings, with colored waltzing fountains and entertainment center with an abundance of movie theatres. It also hosts a two floor mall with restaurants and shops.

Rav Shefa Mall Two floor mall in the heart of the ultra-orthodox neighborhoods catering to the needs of the crowd.

Geula - Mea Shearim The place to go for religious items and gifts. Its crowded old world feel makes it an experience to visit, to buy gifts, and to pick up a pizza or falafel.

Ben Yehuda - Yaffo In the heart of the tourist district, sprinkled among the shops, you find no shortage of eateries be they restaurants, cafes, pizza shops, or ice cream parlors.

As a city that hosts tourists from all corners of the earth, Jerusalem has an abundant of restaurants, of a variety of cuisines. A central component of any vacation dining experience is location, so we present you a list of the locations with a high concentration of restaurants. Our list does not include all the restaurants, and we are sure that you may stumble onto one of the other gems throughout the city. Among the meat restaurants you will find Grill Bar, Roza which features Mexican, Italian, and Israeli dishes, the trendy Black Bar & Burger, Lara with its selection of exotic dishes, Atza Sushi Bar, Eldad VeZehoo the French Brasserie, two gourmet restaurants Gabriel and Noya, and of course Rimon’s bistro.

Mamilla

On the dairy side their is Cafe Rimon which has been a delicious fixture since anyone can imagine, the gourmet dairy Gabriela, Piccolino (upscale Italian), Waffle Bar and Village Green.

This beautiful new pedestrian shopping boulevard adjacent to the Old City’s Jaffa Gate has become a favorite place to eat, enjoy a coffee with old friends, shop and even just take a stroll. Its popular dairy restaurants include, Rimon, The Spaghettis (Italian), Roladin, Cafe Greg, Luciana (Italian), and Aroma, as well as meat restaurants Joy and Kedma.

Rechavia The star eateries of this residential neighborhood are Keyara and Sheyan, both meat restaurants with nice ambience and good food. There is also Green’s salad and bagel bar with their world famous Ice Coffee varieties, as well as the popular French cafe, Meyer’s, where you can always go to practice your French, as well as the newest addition Shosh Cafe! If you like Sushi check out Sosumi.

German Colony There is something magical about the German Colony which makes you feel like you are in an elegant European vacation village. The relatively small strip on Emek Refaim street is upscale and packed with quality. Meat restaurants include Cafe Cafe’s meat entry to the market, Focaccia Bar (Italian), and La Boca (Spanish). For dairy try Masaryk (Italian), Pompidou Bistro and their great breakfast, Soyo (Light & Healthy), Sushi Rechavia, Village Green (Vegetarian), and two waffle restaurants Waffle Bar and Waffle Factory.

Popular Kosher Mehadrin Meat Restaurants Although neither of the these meat restaurants are located in restaurant hubs, they may be the most popular Kosher Mehadrin restaurants in Yerushalayim. Entrecote in Har Chotzvim and Papagaio in Talpiyot and both are meat eaters paradises! Another popular mehadrin meat restaurant, although not as upscale, is the popular Korus Al HaEish in Center One.

Private BBQ An Israeli pastime that is also one of our client favorites is a private BBQ in one of the City’s beautiful parks. Call us to schedule a private BBQ for your group, but call early because often they are booked far in advance. You won’t regret it!
