The horse will become the responsibility of the buyer as soon as the gavel drops. Horse transportation will be the responsibility of the buyer. We have limited abilities to care for the horses after the sale so please try to pick them up or make arrangements within 24 hours. R.A. Brown Ranch has a long and rich heritage of involvement with horses and an unbroken chain of leadership in the AQHA. R.A. Brown Sr. is credited as being one of founders of this legendary association, and his son Rob was elected AQHA President in 1995. Fittingly, both have been inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame. Keeping the leadership tradition alive is Rob A. Brown, who is currently on the AQHA Board of Directors.
For over 125 years, this historic family business has been producing some of the top cattle and Quarter Horses in the industry. R.H. Brown began selling Angus bulls in the 1890s, and the Throckmorton, Texas ranch was established in 1895. In 1906 R.H. brought the first Hereford cattle to Throckmorton County. His son, R.A. Brown Sr., grew up working at the Fort Worth Stockyards and during the summers worked at the Throckmorton ranch. At the age of 15, R.A. moved to Throckmorton to help during the severe drought. The extremely cold winter of 1917 nearly wiped out the cow herd. Instead of going to school, R.A. hauled wagon loads of hides 60 miles to Abilene, trading them for cotton seed cake to feed the surviving cattle. In 1965 R. A. “Rob” Brown, Jr. began managing the ranch at the age of 26, following his father’s death. Rob and his wife Peggy steadfastly guided the ranch’s course for many years. The reins were passed again and now the ranch is owned and operated by their four children—Jody and Betsy Bellah, Rob A. and Talley Brown, Todd and Marianne McCartney, and Donnell and Kelli Brown. After more than a century, it continues as a family ranch.

Take A Pick is a full brother to Sixes Sixgun, Crofoot Ranches performance champion. Although Take A Pick didn’t start his show career until the fall of 2016, he quickly built an impressive resume including: AQHA World Champion Versatility Ranch Horse (with individual event titles in Conformation, Reining, Ranch Riding, Trail and Cutting),
We also believe Keota will have an impact through his daughters as producers. The most notable is CC Mary Catherine, the dam to Chris Littlefield’s BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL stallion. His accomplishments include winning the 2017 Dixie National AQHA Horse Show High Point Cow Horse, and overall high point in the cattle classes, competing in heading, heeling and working cow horse and then he added the title of 2017 RHAA Junior Champion to the resume. SEVEN S KEOTA is by SHINING SPARK and out of SEVEN S SUZANNA (by SON O LEO ) and not only brings the beautiful palomino color to the table but offers us the great minds and reining ability that Shining Spark is known for. He is a 1998 model that we were fortunate enough to trade Clark Cattle Company for a few years ago. Keota has sired a couple of money earners in NCHA but is more known for making gentle, sound, and tough ranch horses that are versatile and easy to train. Many of his progeny have emerged from the team roping world including 2018 PRCA Heeling Horse of the Year Nominee, Sparks Peppy Doc (aka: Smurf). “Smurf” and Clint Summers competed in his first NFR in 2018.

Most of our band are cow bred mares we have ridden first to prove themselves. Our stud, Deeper Shade Of Blue, is an NRCHA, NCHA, AQHA, and RHAA money earner. LK Cattle Company is located in NW Oklahoma near Alva. Kevin & Laura Radford have cows and run stockers on wheat and grass in addition to having a preconditioning yard. They breed, raise and train all of the horses used here on the ranch. The mares are bred to some of the best stallions in the cutting horse industry and must be able to perform in the arena and on the ranch. Colts are born in the pasture and by the time they come in as twoyear- olds, they know how to handle themselves in all types of terrain. These horses are now performing in multiple disciplines including cutting, reined cow horse, calf roping, heading, heeling, ranch horse shows and barrel racing. The TULE RANCH is 100% owned and operated by the Cogdell family. Members of the third and fourth generation are currently living and work ing on the ranch. The land that makes up the Tule Ranch is currently owned by Billy and Bette Cogdell’s children (Penny, Rank, Dick and Jim Cogdell), with each operating their own portion of the ranch. In ad dition, some members of the fourth-generation lease parts of the ranch for their own operations. Even though there are several family units conducting business within the Tule Ranch border, we have the unique blessing of helping each other, so much so, that there is very little need for any outside labor. Family has been and will continue to be a priority on the Tule Ranch. We feel very blessed to live where we do and operate the way that we do. We strive to never take for granted what has been entrusted to us to care for. In total, we are able to run about 3,500+ cows and on a seasonal basis, about 2,000 stockers. We also have approximately 40 broodmares to raise our own ranch and performance horses. A best-loved hobby, one that has had a huge impact on the ranch’s breeding program, was found in the sport of cutting. Today the broodmare band reflects the Cogdell’s interest in the cutting arena, as well as in ranch horses, because to the Cogdell family they are one in the same. The primary goal of the Tule Ranch remuda program is to produce good quality, versatile ranch horses with the ability and breeding to also compete in the arena. This has cumulated in two NCHA Open Futurity wins (1978 & 1999) and being selected as an AQHA Best of the Remuda Award recipient (2006). Billy passed away in 2003, but he left a legacy in both the ranching and cutting horse industries that continues in the lives of his four children, 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Most of the family members live and work on the ranch today. The third and fourth generations continue the heritage of raising high-quality cattle and horses while keeping family first on the Tule Ranch.
