I live constantly searching for new things. Curiosity is my life blood. Sometimes stuck with my ideas, but still wanting to learn something from other people’s experience. On the way to improve myself, everyday more.
⁑ I’m Rachele, 20-yearold student of Communication Design at Politecnico in Milan. My relationship with art started at the age of 3, when I decided to dive myself in a tin full of red paint. After that I’ve always been attracted to this world and I started to see things through more curious and creative eyes. I learnt to feed myself with my interest for art, music and visual design. Always wanting to discover the truth deep behind what connected this three worlds. Thanks to my linguistic studies, I’m also an enthusiast traveller and interested in the approach with people from other countries and different cultures.

#1 Visual Sensory Design Studio
This was the first project of the Visual Sensory Design studio. The brief of this project was to report the process behind an artisan work through a set of photos, which had to be collected in a series of squared pads. These pads had to be visually and conceptually coherent. I choose to analise the context of Paola Farneti’s studio, during the making of one of her ceramic vases. First of all, I took some shoots of the singular objects she produces, in their definitive form. I decided to photograph different types of subjects, according to colour, shape and technique. Then, I focused on the studio setting, her instruments, with the aim of capturing the atmsphere in which she becomes so creative. After that, I took some shoots of her artistic process in the making, step by step, focusing on her hands, and on the way they merge with the clay she was working on. The last two pads, consists of zoomed photos of the textures of the vases, and juxtapositions of small creations together, as to simulate a pattern.
#2 Visual Sensory Design Studio
The brief of this project was to create an handmade label for the an object of our choice. I decided to work on a Moleskine diary, which would become the subject of the whole Visual Sensory Design Studio project. First, I analyzed its shape and drew some perspective views and details. Then I created the label, which consisted of four cards and a its string. I choose to emphatize the feeling caused by touching the cover of the diary, so I reproduced a miniature of it on the first card. The materials I worked on were leather, cotton thread and an elastic bend, to keep its appearance as much as possible similar to the original one. On the other cards I put the informations of the product, its translation in Braille writing, and the materials used. I printed this last one on tracing paper.

To continue the analysis of the Moleskine, in this project, I worked on color interaction and its effects. I started by choosing a palette of colors, that I applied to create optic illusion and to demonstrate how the perception of them changes due to a different background. This analysis was a consequence of the study of Josef Albers’ theories and their practice. The result of te first part was a booklet, with interactive pages printed on transparent paper, and included also the design of a bookmark connected to the book theme. This last one had to be appliable to the pages of the book and to create an effect; in my case was color interaction. The final project consisted in the design of the book but also of two GIFs, one photographic, representing the pages of the book, and one in graphic style.
The second phase of the project consisted in designing a CD sticker and a CD case, always basing the project on the interaction of colors. For the sticker I used my palette and decided to create a pattern which could fade a bit and blur together with the background. Then for the case I designed the cuts and the folds in a certain way to keep the CD in it. The pattern is the same as the one for the sticker but the backgrounds are different. The CD contains the files of the ebook version and the GIFs.
Visual Sensory Design Studio
This project was part of the Typography module. The aim was to analyse typefaces in order to build up a story for an object. We were asked to use our object, in my case, the Moleskine diary. On cover I represented its shape with typefaces. Then I decided to recreate the feeling of seeing some notes on a piece of paper by mixing different fonts and glyphs as to create a pattern. The aim was to use also different kinds of printing effects, such as UV print, to express better the words meaning. In addiction, I reacreated a calligram on the shape of a boat with a poem about travelling, extract of Journey in Portugal of JosĂŠ Saramago. At the end I decided to bind my booklet with black cotton thread to evoke real diaries binding.
#3 Foundations of Project Studio
This project was the first part of a deep analysis on picture books. Re-edit and transcodification of an italian pictur book for kids by Toti Scialoja, poet and painter who worked during the 60s. This book is made up of nursery rhymes, that were written for Toti’s nieces in 1969. This project we made up after a long analysis of the book. In the first step, we had to give a different image to the cover of the book, which wanted to be a synthesis of the contents. In the second step we had to create a booklet for the book. As its aim was to be a preview of the real book, we made up some funny and no-sense histories, which had as protagonists our characters. The third step consists in a book teaser. For this work we wanted to recreate the sense of caos as an earthquake in which all the animals came out of the book because of an invasion of rats.

• Storyboard
Foundation Project Studio
The brief of this project was to choose and analyse a picture book, our was “Signore Orizzontale e signora Verticale” by Noémie Révah and Olimpia Zagnoli. The final purpose was to create a mockup of a book app. We developed the concept by focusing on the interaction of children with the book. So we imagined some mini games to help the son of the two main characters in his journey to reach his parents, which symbolizes also a journey of personal growth. The project included the creation of the app icon and the elaboration of the storyboard before the making of the video.

#4 Typographic Design
This is a university project for the course of Typographic Design. The professor introduced a text called The First Things First Manifesto. Published in 1964 the manifesto was a reaction to the staunch society of 1960s Britain and called for a return to a humanist aspect of design. It’s solution was to focus efforts of design on education and public service tasks that promoted the betterment of society. I had to create a layout of the content in a personal way and give importance to the most significant phrases of the text. We had a lot of restrictions such as the use of only one colour, one font and the ban to put any kind of images or decorations. All the project had to be content inside a 16 pages booklet. I used Fedra Sans by Typotheque foundry. I played with the distance between letters to highlight the most important phrases.
Typographic Design
This booklet was designed for the course of Typographic Design. We were asked to design a Type Specimen booklet of 16 pages that would showcase and celebrate a type family of our selection. I choose to use ‘PMN Caecilia’ which designed by Peter Matthias Noordzij and after his wife. To leverage this little fact, I decided to personify the type as a fun, seductive, and sophisticated woman. Through out the book the type is treated in a flirtatious and slightly sassy manner. I described Caecilia as a smart and interesting woman, keen on maths and languages. As font with great use both as body or and display, I wanted to show its peculiarities in different weights and sizes. I also add the lyrics of the song writted by Simon & The Garfunkel, named Cecilia, as it was dedicated to her.

Metaproject Studio
The aim of the course was to find a no more active brand and re-place it on the market. In this case the brand choosed was automobile’s brand, Talbot. After a work of researching in its heritage, four original values of the brand came around which was created the entire metadesign with a view to recover this brand. It was created a brand book and a brand magazine about people who decided to reinvent theirselves. Next, it was created a brand video. All this artifacts were useful materials for the final brand pack, inclusive of social pages, advertising and a final campaign. At this step it was organized an event, specifically a popup stand situated in certain cities and in particular places, in order to create an activity in which people could be protagonist for a moment and get in the game. This event will be announced on the social pages. The final result of this activation will be converted in a video, which will be posted in the brand’s social pages, linked with the Talbot’s hashtag #moveswithdoers.

Metaproject Studio
The making of these illustrations was the consecuence of a series of seminaries I attended for the Metaproject studio. We were asked to represent visually the projectual mottos of the most important creative figures of today’s advertising and marketing, such as Paolo Iabichino, Giacomo Giannini, Germano Calvi, Gabriele Caeti, Michele Genghi and Marco Zanardi. I decided to illustrate them with my graphics tablet following my drawing style. Here I want to represent the concept of having a big idea, which prevales on the others, and lead creativity (1); the way an object creates its history and keeps this connotation in people’s memory (2); how big data are developing and becoming the basis for creative ideas (3); the importance of relating to other people in the social media age (4).
#6 Personal projects
In my free time I love drawing both on paper and digital, as it makes me relaxed and helps me express myself better. The first illustration is a geometrical portrait of Frida Kahlo, which is one of my favourite artists. It was realized on paper using pencils, crayons and a black marker. For the illustration of the flamingo I was inspired by the hot summer in my motherland, the Adriatic cost. I wanted to represent both the flamingos, the seaside, the parties and the atmosphere of this place all in one drawing. I made this using the graphics tablet. The third illustration was inspired by the song “Ladies and gentleman we are floating in space by Spiritualized. I imagined a girl having a dream in which she floats between planets and stars, as far as planes. It was realized on paper using Copiic markers and some small black ones.
Personal photography projects
This personal project idea started during a summer travel to London and Amsterdam, in which I had time for visiting art museums and to fullfill my curiosity in art field. I decided to analyse the way people conceive art and look at it inside these spaces. I found out how it can be various and how much it can tell about people’s attitude. It depends for sure also on the mood of the museum. But in both cases I noticed that people stayed focused on details and put a lot of love in what they were doing. No matter age, techniques or conditions. Both photos were taken in London, the first at Tate Modern museum and concieves contemporary art, and the second one at National Gallery, representing the observation of a more accademical art.
Personal photography projects
The idea of this project came out during my first time in Berlin. During this stay I noticed how this city is controversial in his atmosphere and his history. Its urban attitude was the aspect which fascinated me the most, so I decided to built up a photography project, in which the subjects were places of the two most controversial neighborhoods: Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. Here I focused on the colours of the buildings and the peculiarities of the streets. By doing this I created a colour palette, which could be applied to each of my shoots. These colours represent Berlin for me. All shoots were made with a reflex camera and no post-production.
