the HISTORY of DEAD SERIOUS Prior to October 30th 1992, Wellesley College was starved for comedy. The people ached for something to laugh at. One student recalls, “Nothing seemed funny enough, I started to actually believe my professors were being funny and laughed wholeheartedly and not just to appease them. But, it all changed on October 30th in 1992. In a spooky feat -- some say the moon had the stars blessed it to happen -- Wellesley College learned to laugh. At improv. The first Dead Serious show was Friday, October 30th, 1992. Rumor has it that the group was almost called WIP (Wellesley Improv Performers), but the echoing ghost of forgotten laughter compelled the original members into the current name. Dead Serious was con-

Each year Dead Serious performs in casual venues around campus -- from living rooms to basements! The org also performs at different events on campus. They’ve been known to MC too! Dead

The unite of structure within an improv show is the game. The games that Dead Serious plays creates a basic structure that it an apply the other rules of improv such as narrative/conflict, characters, reality building, and YES/AND. Some of the structure for the games Dead Serious plays includes placing restrictions on its members such as verbal, physical, and time restrictions.
TH GAM Dead Serious does two forms of improv: long form and short form. Short form games are scenes that are already structured. It consists of small scenes of improvisational comedy which are given parameters with the format. Long form games are ones where members create the structure as they go. Long form improvisation is about taking a concept or suggestion and creating a series of perhaps seemingly unrelated scenes that eventually intervene and become connected throughout the course of the performance.
