INSPIRATION
For my final project I wanted to create something educational and interactive. I loved the idea of pop-up books, and dinosaurs are one of my favorite topics. I decided to produce an informative and fun book.

COLORS
I chose bright colors to appeal to my target audiencechildren. These are fun colors that are gender neutral and lend a sense of whimsy and brightness to a book that is heavy with information. I employed white as an accent color in an attempt to increase readability.

TYPOGRAPHY
The type I chose is called Alternate Gothic No. 2. It was chosen for its simplicity and readability. I believe it also has a sense of being informative without being overwhelmingly assertive.
SKETCHES AND MOCK-UPS
I wanted to make it as fun as possible while still including as much relevant information as I could. I had to work with sizing issues and to fit my content into a condensed few pages.
FINAL: COVER AND TITLE PAGE
After several different versions I settled on a band closure for practicality, and left the cover simple in hopes that it would make curious individuals want to open it up and learn more about the inside.
FINAL: TRIASSIC
For the first section I used orange as the primary color and its compliment, light blue, to balance out my other included information. The white text is easy to read on this color, as black text would have been too harsh.
FINAL: JURASSIC
I used the supporting color from the last layout as the primary focus for the next layout. I switched the placement of the foldout to make it more interesting, and I rearranged my placement of the pop-ups so that they would properly fit on the page.
FINAL: CRETACEOUS
Following the style of the past two spreads, I used the secondary color from the previous spread as the focus for this one. These dinosaurs were relatively similar in size, so I changed my layout to fit them. The spread of Pangea led me to condense my icon facts for this page.
FINAL: CLOSING PAGES
Of course I had to credit and thank my sources and teachers on my last pages. However I also wanted my readers to leave the book on an exciting note, so I included a removable rock hammer (a paleontologist essential) to encourage curiosity and discovery.
