Strobing is essentially an application using highlighter on the high planes of the face, where light would naturally bounce off. Unlike the heavy contoured look of the past few years, strobing works beautifully in real life, because light is always catching and bouncing off your skin. The highlighter simply amps up the reflective glow. Highlighting is nothing new, but there are some techniques and tips to this current trend that are key to achieving maximum results.

Tips Make sure your face is exfoliated. Make sure your skin is well hydrated. To boost your glow, first apply a dewy concealer to the areas that you'll be strobing. Avoid anything sparkly. Keep your skin type in mind. If your skin is oily, avoid highlighting in the tzone area. Remember you want to glow, not look oily. Choose a highlighter that suits your skin tone. Try layering highlighting products starting with a liquid and then topping it with a powder highlighter. If you have blemishes or wrinkles, avoid highlighting in in these areas. Concentrate on the smooth areas of you skin like the upper cheeks. If you skin is dry, try using a glowing primer before your foundation. Set the look with a finishing powder around the areas where you don't have highlighter and under the eyes. Make sure you blend your highlighting products.

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO MASTERING THE
STROBING TECHNIQUE
Start Off with Clean Exfoliated Skin
Use a Hydrating Moisturizer
Choose a Highlighter that Matches Your Skin Tone
1. Start out with clean, exfoliated skin. The smoother your skin is, the less foundation you will have to wear, and the more your skin will glow. 2. Prep your skin with a hydrating moisturizer (not a greasy one). Strobing is all about getting the perfect glow, so you'll need to replenish dull, dry skin with a good moisturizer first. If you have naturally oily skin, use one that's oil-free. 3. Use a lightweight foundation or BB cream all over, as you would normally do. Conceal where needed. Apply a little concealer to the upper part of the cheek bone where you will place your highlighter. 4. Use a highlighter shade that best matches your skin tone. To avoid the frosted look, make sure the highlighter you're using complements your skin tone for a subtle sheen. 5. Only use the highlighter in spots that catch light: on your cheekbones, along your temples, down the bridge of your nose, below your brow bone, in the corners of your eyes, and above your cupid's bow. Don't spread the product all over your face, or else your glow will turn into a greasy mess. If you have oily skin, skip areas like your forehead or chin, which have a little shine already. 6. After you've applied the highlighter, blend it out with your fingers, a fan brush, or a damp makeup sponge so it fades into the rest of your skin. 7. For the ultimate glow, layer your highlighters. Use a cream highlighter first, and then apply a powder one on top. Opt for a cream blush instead of a powder blush if your skin is dry. 8. Make sure to mattify the areas of your face, where you don't want to shine, with a setting powdew. Use ONLY a setting powder (not a foundation powder) for touch ups!
Are You Applying Your Sunscreen Correctly? Sunscreen is safe and can protect your skin against skin cancer and premature aging. However, it is not as effective unless it's applied correctly.
Tips
Choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, is water resistant, and provides broad-spectrum coverage. Apply sunscreen generously before going outdoors. It takes approximately 15 minutes for your skin to absorb the sunscreen and protect you. Use enough sunscreen. Most adults need at least one ounce of sunscreen, about the amount you can hold in your palm, to fully cover all exposed areas of your body. Rub the sunscreen thoroughly into your skin. Apply sunscreen to all bare skin. Remember your neck, face, ears, tops of your feet and legs. If you have thinning hair, either apply sunscreen to your scalp or wear a widebrimmed hat. To protect your lips, apply a lip balm with a SPF of at least 15. Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours to remain protected, or immediately after swimming or excessively sweating. Don't use expired sunscreen. Expired sunscreen products offer little to no defense against the sun. Make sure to throw out sun screen after 3 years. Your skin is exposed to the sun's harmful UV rays every time you go outside, even on cloudy days and in the winter. So whether you are on vacation or taking a brisk fall walk in your neighborhood, remember to use sunscreen.
