Quick Tips

for Fall by makeup artist (MUA) Ming

HEALTHY AND SHINY HAIR ~ If you want to make your hair sleek and shiny, apply a small amount of coconut oil on bottom half of hair an hour or two before shampooing. MAKE EYES LOOK BIGGER ~ Apply brown liner along the lash line then curl lashes and put a nice coat of mascara , this instantly wakes up the eyes! MAKE THIN BROW LOOK THICKER ~ Make feathery strokes with a brow pencil that matches closely to the color of your brows then take a brow powder in a similar shade and sweep over brows in the direction that your brows naturally grow. MAKE LIPS LOOK FULLER ~ Line only the cupid bow of the upper lip and halfmoon of the bottom curve of the lip, don't take the liner all the way to the corner of the lips. Then use a light to medium shade lipstick , blending over the lined areas of the mouth and fill in rest of lip. Spread a dot of gloss on bottom lip and Voilà!

SKIN CARE TIPS FOR WHEN YOU'RE NOT FEELING WELL We'd all like to go through life without ever getting sick or being stressed, but let's face it, sooner or later because we live in an imperfect world, something is bound to get us at one time or another (hopefully, nothing big). But even small ailments and stress can cause havoc to our skin. Here are some tips to help your skin recover after you have been under the weather. Keep hydrated inside and out. Drink plenty of water Filtered or spring water is best since it don't have as many chemicals as faucet water. Use a hydrating moisturizer on your face and body. Put your eye cream in the refrigerator. The coolness will help with puffiness under the eyes. Use a gentle cleaner. Soaps and harsh cleansers can remove the moisture from your skin. Take a rest from your retinoids for a few days, as these can dry out the skin and cause redness Use a Vitamin C serum. This will help to fight free radicals and also brighten your skin! Try a hydrating face mask. These are comforting, calming, and hydrating to the skin and the soul! PRO TIPS

CHECK LIST MAKEUP TIPS THAT KEEP YOU LOOKING YOUNG 1. Your foundation should match your skin. If the color is too light, it can make you look pallid. Stay away from foundations with too much pink , this will make one look older. Remember not to over load on foundation. Keep it natural looking. 2. Make sure your concealer is not cakey. Heavy concealer will draw attention to fine lines and wrinkles. 3 .Don't over do your brows. Fill in lightly where sparse brows are. If you've never gotten your brows shaped by a professional, do so! And don't over tweeze! 4. Make sure your blush is well blended and not streaked. It's ok to use a powder blush. If you skin is super dry, a cream blush may stick to dry patches. Cream blush looks beautiful on normal skin. 5. Get rid of the peach fuzz. If you've got lots of fine hairs on your face, the products will sit on top of the hairs. By getting the hairs removed by a professional, your skin will be able to glow through the makeup.

6. Be careful that your lipstick doesn't bleed. 7. Use a light hand with powder. For touch ups, use a setting powder and not a foundation powder. Be careful around the nose. Too much powder can look cakey, as well. 8, Don't over do your eye make up. Less is more. Also, opt for taupe over brown eye shadows. Some brown shadows contain red pigment which can make your eyes look tired. 9. Jagged liner can age you. Make sure you have a smooth line. 10. Straight droopy lashes can age you. Try a curing mascara or think about getting a lash lift. Eye lash curlers are fine, but be extra careful when using one. If the pad is old, it can become sticky and pull out your lashes. Always remember to use a lash curler before applying mascara. 11. Using the same old colors can be boring. The easiest way to freshen your look is to change your lipstick colors!

How to Layer your Skin Care Products Properly Following this order helps to get the

TONER

:

best results from your products

TONER: Toners are a drink of water for the skin. Some offer additional purifying or antibacterial benefits, likte glo* therapeutics Purifying Tonic, while others can soothe and help reduce surface redness, like the Conditioning Tonic or Calming Flower Mist. Think of toning as the prep step because a toner can assist with evening out the porosity of the skin, giving your serum and moisturizer a smoother, more even application.

SERUM

SERUM: After cleansing and toning, apply your favorite serum. Whether your goal is to smooth, firm, brighten or protect, a serum is the ultimate product for transforming your skin because they penetrate deep into the skin to address specific concerns. HYDRATOR: When you’re dehydrated, give your skin a boost with a hydrator. glo*therapuetics B5 Hydration and Advanced B5 Hydration provide exceptional hydration and nourishment with Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin B5. Hyaluronic Acid attracts and maintains hydration to hold 1,000 times its weight in water and prevents transepidermal water loss.

R O T A R D HY

MOISTURIZER

MOISTURIZER: Seal in serum and prevent water loss while delivering critical hydration to the skin’s surface with a moisturizer. If your skin is oily, try Oil Control Emulsion or Oil Free Moisturizer, and if your skin is very dry, try a rich moisturizer like Moisture Rich Cream, Restorative Cream or Skin Firming Cream by glo*therapeutics. EYE CARE: From dark circles to crow’s feet, the eye area is often an area of concern for people of all ages and skin types. That’s not surprising given that the skin around our eyes is incredibly thin and delicate. Aside from getting plenty of rest and drinking lots of water, eye serums and creams hydrate, smooth and revitalize the eye area. Gently dab a small amount of product using your ring finger along the orbital bone without tugging at the skin. SUN CARE: Don’t forget suncare! Even when temps are cool and skies are grey, always apply sun protection to your face and the often neglected décolleté.

CATCH SOME WAVES IN

Article by Jaime Shultz, About Face of New Orleans Licensed Esthetician

Big changes are ahead for skincare products due to a government bill passed, banning the use of plastic microbeads. Found in many skin exfoliants, like body washes, facial scrubs, and soaps, these tiny beads do not breakdown as they wash down drains. Due to the plastic waste from microbeads not being filtered out, marine ecosystems are damaged and waterways are polluted. Many companies have moved to replace microbeads with natural, biodegradable ingredients, such as apricot seeds, powdered pecan shells, oatmeal, and rice.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Good news! All glo* therapeutics exfoliants and cleansers are now microbeadfree and use safe alternatives! NOMADIC | 24

keep your mind sharp

Why Does Fall Have Two Names? Fall

Autumn

Did You Know? Autumn is derived from the French, which came from the Latin autumnus, the Roman name for this season meaning harvest. Fall is a Germanic word that also came into use around the 16th century. It is thought to refer to the season's falling leaves and fruit, and to nature's decline as winter approaches.
