India Rose, winner of Grazia’s daily best dressed blogger, likes to keep things simple. Her most recent post sees her pairing a plain white tee with grey marl shorts, a black sweater casually wrapped around her waist and a fluorescent COS bra seductively peeping through her t-shirt. Accessorised simply with a silver Michael Kors watch, denim backpack and a Beechfield beanie; this is effortless style at its best. You know someone’s got it when they can out-dress you in shorts and a tee. Hey India, it’s such a beautiful name, is India Rose your real name? Yes it is, and thank you. My mum was given a really boring name and always promised to herself that her children would have names they were proud of. Quite thankful for that really, as I would have no idea what to call my blog otherwise.
to your own style, as it’s so obvious when you’re dressing in something solely because it’s on trend or because loads of other bloggers are wearing it. Using style sites like Lookbook.nu really help gain viewers too.
It definitely makes for a great blog title. Who are your favourite designers or collections at the moment?
What brands/ labels are you looking out for this year?
My favourite collections change each season but designers I have always loved are Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Acne, Isabel Marant and Theyskens Theory. I just buy something I like if I come across it. Right now I want a pair of matching joggers and sweatshirt from Alexander Wang, some suede Reebok Classics, some Asics gels, loads of LnA basics and the rest I just hope to steal from my guy friends. I do that a lot.
To be honest I don’t really watch specific brands, I just buy something I like if I come across it. Sometimes I get little visions of a look I want to create though, and then I look out for brands I think may have something similar to what I have in my head. Right now I want a pair of matching joggers and sweatshirt from Alexander Wang, some suede Reebok Classics, some Asics gels, loads of LnA basics and the rest I just hope to steal from my guy friends. I do that a lot.
You have recently won Grazia’s Best Dressed Blogger - did you ever think starting out your blog that you would receive this much attention? Any tips for those starting out on their blogs at the moment?
Right now I want a pair of matching joggers and sweatshirt from Alexander Wang, some suede Reebok Classics, some Asics gels, loads of LnA basics and the rest I just hope to steal from my guy friends. I do that a lot.
Honestly I had no idea. I just started it to gain a place on my university course. I stopped blogging for a year or two then suddenly had the urge to start it up again, and from then it’s just been a natural progression I suppose. I’d say to keep
Stealing clothes from guys is the way forward. So who would you say influences you in your fashion style? 9

Keep to your own style. It’s so obvious when you’re dressing in something solely because it’s on trend or because loads of other bloggers are wearing it. Honestly it’s no one in particular anymore. I find myself disassociating myself with the blogs that I follow, as they don’t really have similar style to me. I take a lot of inspiration from my guy friends I suppose, and then images I find from lookbooks or collages and people I see in the street.
Fashion is a big part of your life but what do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t working in fashion?
Have you been on holiday this year?
Have you always been so assured in your wardrobe choices or do you have any embarrassing outfits from back in the day?
Not yet. This is the longest I’ve been in the country and it’s killing me, last year I managed to go on 8 holidays! I’m going to Amsterdam on Monday though for my birthday, and I’m going to Outlook festival in Croatia in September, then hopefully Berlin at some point before all the clubs like Berghain close down. It’s going to be a sad time for Berlin.
I’d still be at university, but probably doing something like photography, which is what I did before I started this degree. I’ve always wanted to DJ too. Who knows.
SO many embarrassing stages. I was a bit of a scene kid at one stage, wearing loads of liquid eyeliner, skinny jeans, bright Nike Dunks and extensions. In fact I’ve had too many. I won’t expose myself too much. Your dress sense is quite laid back, what would you normally wear on a night out?
Where do you hope to be in the future? I’m not 100% sure yet to be honest. I want to see where my blog will take me, and one day to hopefully become a brand or at least help co-design a collection for somebody, alongside styling lookbooks for my favourite brands or websites. That would be incredible. If you could style one person who would it be and how would you dress them? There are so many people I think could pull off a different look to what they already have that I wouldn’t even know where to start with that.
If I’m going to something that requires for me to dress up, which is rare, I’ll make more of an effort. The last time I wore anything with a heel was to a debut music event in Nottingham. I couldn’t cope going all out so I paired them with my friend’s American football jersey and wore it as a dress. Find India Rose’s blog at indiaroseblog.blogspot.co.uk All images copyright IndiaRose

A CONVERSATION WITH CHARLIE MAY
What inspired you to go into fashion design?
Founder of blog ‘girl a la mode’ and her own minimalsit fashion label, twenty something year old Charlie May is a force to be reckoned with. Starting her label back in 2008 whilst she was still at university, she has created collection after collection of perfectly clean cut minimalistic clothing. Raised on a farm in her hometown in Devon, Charlie May takes inspiration from the natural surroundings leading to her minimalist, androgynous signature style.
I never really knew I wanted to be a designer, my gran had been a seamstress and my mum had made her own clothes growing up int he 60s. In college I got heavily into the punk and riot grrl scene; I started sewing patches on everything to then buying slip dresses from charity shops and attaching lace, eventually selling hand made bits and pieces on my own eBay store. I quickly moved from Business Studies to do Art and Design specialising in fashion and from there I moved to Bristol to go to uni and discovered what fashion could really be about. How would you describe your style? Minimalist, androgynous with a hint of sportiness. How did you go about setting up your own label? I kind of just launched into it. I’d been interning and assisting for a year after graduating and found it quite difficult working for no pay and getting no credit either for the work I was doing. I decided I could at least set up my own label and still be making no money but be getting somewhere. Luckily through my blog, Girl a la Mode, I had quite a few industry contacts I could invite to my first presentation and get press that way. What designers/ collections do you love? My favourite designer is Phoebe Philo at Céline, I also have a huge love for Belgian designers like Haider Ackermann and Ann Demeulemeester. What has been your favourite editorial your clothes have been featured in? Without a doubt the AnOther editorial styled by Nobuko Tannawa. She immediately grasped the aesthetic I was trying to achieve. Who has been the most interesting person you’ve met? Sonja Noel from Stijl, Brussels. Incredibly inspirational business women.

What has it been like showing your collections at Fashion Week?
How did you manage with the business side of setting up your label?
It’s been great although very difficult without sponsorship from the BFC. It’s been self funded up until now so I’m questioning how I want to move forward for next season. AW14 could be my last show for now!
As I mentioned, I studied Business at college so I already had my head screwed on a little. It’s all about learning as you go though. I’m still learning so much about the business! What will be your key item for Spring/ Summer 2014?
What inspires your collections? I’m inspired a lot by Devon and nature such as Icelandic seascapes or roaming Devon Moors. It’s more the feeling of peace it gives me than any specific references.
The white croc bomber jacket from my collection!
What fashion bloggers do you follow?
I set up Girl a la Mode in 2008 and I think my highlight has been last week, being featured on ThePop.com and in their Feb issue in print. I always wanted to be a pop girl!
I love Oracle Fox, India Rose, Love Aesthetics, and Stop It Right Now Does your home interior follow the same minimalist aesthetic as your fashion line? I wish. It would if I could but right now I’m more about cheap rent so I can afford my lovely fashion studio. That has a minimalist feel but is naturally quite messy all the time!
What has been the highlight since setting up your blog?

What fashion pieces could you not live without? Shoes without a doubt. My Nike trainers, and Céline slip ons mostly.

Hi Roos! Where are you from and when did you start fashion blogging? My name is Roos-Anne and I love in Zwolle a small city in the Netherlands. I started blogging 4 years ago. After looking at other blogs I wanted a blog myself and started with a simple website. Now I’m so lucky that my hobby became my job! How would you describe your style? Simple, minimalistic with lots of black and leather. If you could pick five essential pieces for your wardrobe, what would you pick? My Balenciaga cut-out-boots, celine trio bag, leather trousers, an oversized coat and a basic shirt. What do you love about minimalist fashion? I love simple lines and good fabrics. I would rather pay a bit more for a simple top which is made in a high quality fabric and has an interesting cut than a crazy flower printed shirt that I will only wear once. Fashion comes and goes whereas minimalistic clothes are timeless! And always look amazing in my opinion. Who are your favourite designers/ recent collections? I love Alexander Wang. Most of the time it’s simple but always with some kind of edge. If I need new shoes the first place I look is Alexander wang. He makes the best boots! Who do you look to for fashion inspiration? I’m forever reading other fashion blogs and I follow lots of people on instagram for my daily inspiration. Lately, pinterest has been my best friend. I can browse it for hours.

What bloggers would you recommend following? Camtyox, cottds, angelica blick and afterdrk. My daily reads. You aren’t shy of having an all black outfit, what do you love about this colour? Black is always good. I can’t describe what I love about this colour, it’s just the way you can combine and layer it. It makes me feel good. I love to play with different textures, that’s why an all black outfit doesn’t have to be boring. Leathers with big knits or luxe fabrics are a great match! What are your beauty essentials?
What are you currently adding to your wardrobe wish list? Still looking for the perfect leather trousers. Impossible to find, or way too expensive! What music are you rating at the moment? Beyonce! I love her! What opportunities has blogging brought you? I’m one of the lucky girl’s who has made her hobby into her job. I have travelled, met some really great people, been to different fashion weeks, worked with cool brands and finally was able to buy myself that designer bag!

OLIVIA PURVIS You’re as sweet as candy You’re my sugar dandy Effortlessly stylish, Olivia Purvis, with her beehive and crimson lipstick in check, knows a thing or two about creating a beautiful fashion blog. Quirky vintage finds, elegantly cool sixties styling along with her penchant for afternoon tea can be found on her blog. She’ll give the likes of Alexa Chung a run for their money. We had a catch up with her about her style and the perks of being a fashion blogger. Hey Olivia! What triggered you to start your blog and how did you go about setting it up?
I’d probably say; girlie yet tomboyish, colourful, nostalgic with a hint of sixties fun thrown in for good measure- quite a few things all at once!
Oh goodness, this is tough! Probably a lace inset blouse I bought from Topshop on Payday! It’s a little hippyish, but looks amazing with worn denim and some cool ankle boots! You have just had a holiday in Paris, where would your ideal holiday be and what would you do? I’d love to visit Rome! I think it could probably be the perfect balance of city break and poolside Med-break. I’d do plenty of shopping, history hunting and of course tasting the amazing Italian cuisine. Who would you say inspires your style?
It initially began as a music blog, which I posted reviews and gig photographs on- which I suppose is quite a stark contrast from where it is now! After a while, and reading lots of fashion and style blogs, I wanted to broaden my blogs focus, so signed up to Blogger- and the rest is history! To be honest, the best tip I have for any fellow bloggers is just do it! I think if you have the passion for your subject, and want to start a blog for the right reasons, then do it, everything else will just fall into place! How would you describe your style?
What has been your favourite fashion purchase been this month?
Oh so many! There’s people like Alexa Chung, Drew Barrymore, Fearne Cotton, and Audrey Hepburn who I always go to for amazing outfit combinations, but I can get inspired from reading magazines, blogs, street style, listening to my favourite bands, and even the people I surround myself with- my mum, best friend and boyfriend have the best style! On your blog there are a few posts of cute afternoon teas you have had. Who would you most like to invite to a tea party? In fear of sounding hugely unoriginal, I’d love to have The Beatles there, with my new favourite band, Haim for music. Alexa Chung for style chats, Stephen Fry for endless fascinating conversation and probably Gizzi Erskine to help with major tea party preparation!

Sounds like the perfect party to me. What would you wear to sit front row at London Fashion Week?
So much! My music taste is constantly changing and evolving, but I’m currently loving Haim, Black Lips, Friends, Spector and Jake Bugg. This year I’ve stayed in England for festivals, and went to Field Day and Lounge on the Farm, where I saw Blood Orange, Kindness, The Vaccines, Spector- and plenty of others in-between!
If money was no object, I’d love to wear a gorgeous lace Valentino dress- but in a real world, probably a statement vintage dress, beehive, a slick of lipstick and some sky-high heels!
What’s your favourite film? Apart from Valentino, what designers do you admire and why?
500 Days of Summer ten times over!
I adore Mulberry’s Emma Hill and Alexander McQueens Sarah Burton, I think they both play such a huge part in maintaining the key element of British heritage style, which with fashion being so fast paced and changeable, is so important.
Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt make an ultimate pairing. If you could go back in time what era would be your first stop to visit?
Your blog has quite a vintage, quirky feel to it. What has been your favourite vintage or charity shop find?
I should’ve known! Finally, what are your hopes for the future and do you think you’ll be working within the fashion industry?
Probably some white sixties style pumps I picked up in Paris, they fit like a glove! I know that you’re a big Arctic Monkeys fan, what else have you been listening to at the moment? Have you ventured to any festivals this summer?
Without a doubt the 1960’s!
One day, I’d LOVE to be working happily in the fashion industry, preferably either in writing or styling for a successful publication- a girl can dream! Find Olivia’s blog at What Olivia Did All images copyright of Olivia Purvis

MEGAN MCMINN Briar Rose Blog

Megan McMinn’s blog, ‘Briar Rose’, reads like a dreamy fairytale. Complete with her unmistakable ruby red hair and frothy girly-girl style Megan’s blog is my goto for style fit for a princess. Delightful recipes and snippets from Megan’s life, including beautiful photos from her recent Cornish fairytale themed wedding make her blog more like a stylish diary. We were lucky enough to have a catch up with Megan herself. Hi Megan! Tell us a little bit about yourself… I’m Megan, and I’m a creative writing student striving to someday become a published young adult author. I live in Bath with my husband, and I’m absolutely in love our city! In my free time I work on my blog, Briar Rose, styling outfits and documenting my adventures. How would you describe your style? My style is somewhat eclectic. I love retro shapes, romantic fabrics and quirky detailing, but I try not to pigeon hole myself too much. Sometimes I’m all about boater hats and pastel dresses, other times I’ll mix things up with pleather pieces and faux fur. You love vintage style, what has been your favourite vintage find? An amazing dusty pink evening dress with a big full skirt made up with panels of tulle and lace. I found it on Etsy and it’s definitely the belle of my wardrobe! If you could live in another era, which would it be? I love the opulence of the 20s, however considering how strongly I believe in sexual equality I’m not sure I could stand to live in anything but the present day. Who or what inspires you?
inspiration - they’re so refreshing. If I’m really struggling to get inspired I’ll try something new, whether it be a recipe, a tea room, or an old film I haven’t seen before. It’s sure to get me thinking! Your blog is somewhat fairytale like, what is your favourite book? That’s such a hard question since I’m reading constantly, however my all time favourite would have to Angela Carter’s Nights at The Circus. You’ve been blogging since 2011, what has been the highlight? Aside from all of the wonderful people I’ve met, being shortlisted for the Company Style Blogger Awards earlier this year was a real high. A few weeks ago I received an email from a recovering anorexic saying that reading Briar Rose had inspired her to start eating again - that was pretty incredible. There are lots of delightful recipes on your blog, what are your favourite treats to make? Although they’re such a cliche nowadays, I really do love making cupcakes! There’s so much room for creativity in the flavours and decorations. Other favourites include cinnamon buns and my signature pink rose meringues - I dust them with edible glitter before serving!
Books, bloggers, films... I love reading other blogs for

I love retro shapes, romantic fabrics and quirky detailing You have recently got married in true fairytale style! What was the best part of the day for you?
What kind of music do you listen to?
The ceremony was so emotional and personal - we were married by one of our best friends which really made the day for us! Another highlight was the half hour we spent down on the beach with our bridesmaids and groomsmen taking photos. We needed that time to wind down following the ceremony, and being surrounded by our closest friends we could really feel the love.
I’m a rock girl at heart. My dad had me listening to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and ACDC in my early teens. My all time favourite band is The Raconteurs - they were the first ‘big’ band I saw live and they were just incredible. Nowadays my most listened to bands are Florence and The Machine, Nickel Creek, Mumford and Sons, and most recently, Haim. What advice would you give to anyone starting their own blog?
What is your favourite film? My go-to when I’m feeling a bit rubbish is Marie Antoinette. It’s pure eye candy from start to finish, and the soundtrack is amazing. Kirsten Dunst is mesmerising. What’s your favourite outfit to wear at the moment? I’ve just been bought a pink coat as an early birthday present, and I can’t get enough of it. Some autumn florals, a fluffy pastel jumper, my sturdy Dr Martens shoes and I’m good to go!
Content is key - don’t get distracted by blog designs, events, samples and gimmicks - at the end of the day it’s good content that will bring people back to your blog.
