INTERIOR DESIGN

[About Me]

Hello, My name is Rachel Walchonski. I’m currently working as an Interior Designer in the Baltimore, Maryland area. I have experience designing commercial spaces, particularly corporate offices, healthcare, and hospitality. I’m looking for a career that pushes me to be a better designer than I was the day before. I enjoy learning through projects, as well as my peers and collaborating on multiple projects at once.

[Corporate] Berman McAleer, a financial planning office, came to NFD in hopes to revamp their corporate office space. They needed all levels of our design service - space planning, construction documentation, contract administration, and design development. A variety of programs were used in the creation of this project. AutoCad was used to draft the floor plans along with the construction documents that were created for this project. We used InDesign to lay out presentations to the clients, as well as using Revit to model certain areas that they couldn’t envision 2D. For this project, there were multiple teams that I collaborated with. I collaborated with furniture dealers to put together furniture packages, as well as Sandtown Millwork to design a custom island piece for the client’s coffee area.

[Lobby] Dulaney Center, an office space for mixed used, wanted to update their lobby for their users. They wanted to do this on a tight budget, but wanted to be able to visualize the space before it got built. In order to give the client the most budget friendly idea, we took photos of their existing lobby and photoshopped them with the finishes that we were proposing. After we got the approval, we created pricing plans in AutoCAD for our contractor to do the build out. For this particular project, we worked mostly with the General Contractor in order to communicate design using our provided pricing plans. Contract Administration was needed in order to answer any questions that the client and contractor both had.

[Behavorial Health] Polaris Detox Center is a Behavioral Health Center for individuals to stay for long periods of time. I first came into this project to field verify an abandoned building that our contractor acquired with his client. They brought us in to do field work, space planning, design development, renderings, contract documents, and construction administration. The field survey was done using our BLK360 laser. Taking 360 degree scans, this laser helped us input the floor plan into AutoCAD in order to do space planning. After our approved space plan was complete, renderings were done using Autodesk Revit. Finally, presentation boards were put together using InDesign.

[Healthcare] Retina Eye Center was the first project that I was Project Manager for. We initiated meetings with the client to discuss needs for their new eye doctor office that was opening in Hanover, Pennsylvania. It was an integral part of the design process that we space planned for exactly what their needs were because they were so specific for their client’s needs. Space planning, field verification, construction documents, permit acquisition, and contract administration were all parts of the design process that we worked with Retina on. For this center we utilized the BLK360 laser to aid us with field verification.
