Clifton branch community library The Clifton Branch Community Library is designed to serve the growing community on Ludlow. Located near the University of Cincinnati, the library sits on an empty lot in the gaslight district between Ludlow Ave and Hosea Ave. The community on Ludlow and the area around it has a very diverse population: from families with children of varying ages as well as individuals who are studying at the University of Cincinnati.

CINCINNATI MUSEUM OF WASTE It is natural for humans to produce waste. But because waste is out of sight and out of mind, we don’t realize how reckless we have been with the resources we are given. This is a proposal for the Cincinnati Museum of Waste. As an extension of the existing Museum Center, it will be located in the Mill Creek Area by the Metropolitan Sewer District where people can see what happens to waste and what happens when people take care of what they have. The concept of this design is based off of the idea that with some creativity, waste can be turned into a resource. This museum will be made of waste and recycable materials. Most of this building is built by stacking used 10’, 20’ 40’ shipping containers with trusses added to the center to create varied spaces in the building.

Cincinnati Museum of waste
Cincinnati was once the major industrial hub of the Midwest. Agriculture surplus in Cincinnati led to the booming industry of big companies like P&G and Kroger. The rise of factories in the area produced a huge industrial waste which led to a pollution in the Mill Creek area. By 1977, the Mill Creek was considered as “the most endangered urban river in North America by a river conservation group. Though the city of Cincinnati has transformed and restored the Mill Creek Area over the last two decades, there is still currently a lack of knowledge and awareness within the community regarding waste issue.

PAVILION PROMENADE The 8’ neighborhood modular units create an interactive space to engage the site through view, rest and promenade. Students collabrated in groups to produce a unit that relates in a group of modular constructions. The flatpack construction of this unit is created with planes of MDF screwed on the frame made of 2 x 4s to create spaces within the 8’ cube. The unit explores the movement within the space as well as consider sun shading for the space. The construction was also bolted on concrete blocks of different height to accommodate for the level change.

Qatar national Museum Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the National Museum of Qatar’s is inspired by iconic desert rose. The interlocking disks of a desert rose is the main design concept for the museum. While working at the site office, I drafted work quality reports and took process pictures for the architects. I tansferred MEP from AutoCAD files into Digital Project (BIM) and was responsible for communicating with contractors for door hardware proposals. I also performed additional tasks for the project manager using Rhino, Illustrator and Photoshop.

About Me My name is Rachel and I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning.
Interests Traveling, Food, Culture, Piano
Originally from Malaysia, then growing up in Qatar and now living in the United States, I have learned to appreciate different cultures. Living in a transient community in Doha, traveling to different parts of the world and constantly moving for various internships gave me so many opportunities to adapt, familiarized and fall in love with the places and the people who are different from me. Though I may not have a place I can completely call home, I would not trade the life I’ve had for anything. The beauty of my home is that it is nowhere and everywhere.
Thank you
