same concept wherever you are,” says Wall. “You’re looking for a page that is fashionable enough to reoffer. And then you look to buy the physical, an athlete, that best fits your criteria. But we’re learning all the time there - we take guidance from the great team at Widden.” One lesson came early on when the partnership came to reoffer a filly by Pierro in January 2017. Now a leading young sire with three Group 1 winners to his credit, Pierro had at that time been represented by only a handful of runners, and the jury was out. “We try to avoid those stallions with first runners coming up,” Wall says. “Magic Millions comes early in the racing season when there’s been very little two-year-old racing. We slightly found that out in our first year when we went to sell a Pierro filly. Pierro has obviously developed into an excellent sire but at the time, he had first two-year-olds and people were sitting on the fence a bit.” This year’s draft does go against that rule with the inclusion of a colt by Newgate Farm’s young sire Dissident (Sebring). Catalogued as Lot 512, he is out of the winning Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare Depasse. “Having worked the sales, you get a feel for a type and we really liked what we saw from Dissident’s first crop last year,” Sheikh Fahad, John Gosden & Hannah Wall | Racing Post

said Wall. “We ended up buying a couple of yearlings for Qatar Racing. The vibes about him at all the sales was just very good, so we took a chance with this colt. “He’s a good colt, and he has done very well over the last six months. “Redwalls Syndicate includes some of my closest friends and family, as well as industry professionals who have supported me from the word go for which I am extremely grateful.” There is understandably particular excitement, however, surrounding the Zoustar (Northern Meteor) youngsters that are slated to sell at Magic Millions. In light of their roles within Qatar Racing, few people are in a position to understand Zoustar better than either Wall or Redvers.

rained at Flemington by Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes, Headwater (Exceed And Excel) won three of his 11 starts and amassed career prize-money of $460,800.
As is typical of Exceed And Excel (Danehill) progeny,
Headwater was a precocious two-year-old, putting in a mightily impressive debut win over 1000 metres at Moonee Valley where he pulled nearly three lengths clear of the field. He was immediately fast-tracked to Group company and proved himself a high-class sprinter, displaying terrific speed to land the Silver Slipper (Gr 2, 1100m) at Rosehill by an easy two and a half lengths under Blake Shinn. The colt did not get the best of trips when third in the Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) next time out but he performed admirably in defeat when fifth in the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) having raced on the sharp end throughout. Headwater’s three-year-old campaign did not get off to the smoothest of starts; he could only finish seventh in the San Domenico Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) first up and he faded out of contention when coming home ninth in the Danehill Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m), but he came back to form with a close fourth in the AJ Moir Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) in October 2015. He was spelled soon after and came back in January to take out the Kensington Stakes (Listed, 1000m) in determined

uch anticipation surrounds the first Australian crop of yearlings by No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) set to hit the sales ring at Magic Millions, after the Coolmore Stud shuttlers fantastic start to
his career in Europe. No Nay Never has been represented by 31 winners, six of them
stakes winners, headed by Middle Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) winner Ten Sovereigns and he boasts an incredible 52.5 per cent runners to winners strike rate*, which will see him crowned Champion First Season Sire by earnings in both Britain and Ireland. A US$170,000 purchase as a foal from the Keeneland November Breeding Stock in 2011, his price decreased to US$95,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale ten months later and he went into training shortly afterwards with Florida-based Wesley Ward as a two-year-old. He made his racecourse debut on polytrack at Keeneland in April 2013 and made an immediate impression, breaking sharply and beating his rivals comfortably by two lengths under Joel Rosario. No Nay Never’s second start came in the Norfolk Stakes (Gr 2, 5f) and in contrast to his debut, the colt was slow from the gates but recovered quickly to contest the early lead. After he was briefly headed, showing signs of greenness in the closing stages, he rallied strongly to win going away by a length. He was given a break after his Ascot assignment but was back in Europe in August 2013, where he extended his winning sequence to three when taking out the Prix Morny (Gr 1, 1200m) at Deauville in impressive fashion on testing ground. Upon returning as a three-year-old he met defeat for the first time in his career, running second in the Swale Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) at Gulfstream, but he was ill at ease over seven furlongs on the dirt on that occasion and, following a prolonged injury lay-off, he regained the winning thread in October 2014 back on turf in the Keeneland Select (Gr level success when breezing to the front under Frankie Dettori, but

utreach (Exceed and Excel) brings an interesting profile to the Australian stallion ranks, having had just one career outing prior to his retirement in 2016. That run came when finishing second to
subsequent Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro), whose first yearlings are also set to be unleashed on the Gold Coast, in the Canonbury Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Rosehill in January 2015. After obtaining an injury during that run, an intended tilt at the Rosehill Group 1 was shelved, much to the disappointment of Outreach’s connections who had anticipated a bold showing from the Corumbene Stud homebred in the race. “Outreach was without doubt Golden Slipper class,” said his co-trainer Peter Snowden. “A colt with genuine Group 1 winning speed. I was confident he would have given the 2015 Slipper a shake had he got there. “His debut performance to stretch Vancouver was incredible given he wasn’t screwed down.” Snowden was also quoted as describing Outreach as a “flying machine”, while Breeder George Altomonte labelled him as a “superior type to his sister Overreach,” Australian Champion 2YO Filly in 2012-13. One of five foals to race out of the Snippets (Lunchtime) mare Bahia, Outreach is a brother to a pair of winners, including 2013 Golden Slipper winner Overreach, and a half-brother to a further two winners. Bahia herself is a half-sister to Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner and Chatswood Stud stallion Reward For Effort (Exceed And Excel), who was crowned champion first and

The former Chris Waller inmate announced himself on the
scene with an impressive debut success over 1100 metres at Canterbury in April 2015 and preserved his unbeaten record when stepped up into open company over 1350 metres at Rosehill a month later. On his last start as a two-year-old, the son of Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) made it a perfect three from three when taking out the JJ Atkins Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Doomben in good style, coming with a strong run from the home turn under Tye Angland to beat Sagaronne (Real Saga) by three quarters of a length. With his status as a top-class juvenile assured, Press Statement returned in the Run To The Rose Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at the end of August but met with defeat for the first time when finishing second, splitting Exosphere (Lonhro) and Holler (Commands) in first and third. Another defeat followed in the Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m), but he was soon back on track, taking out the Stan Fox Stakes (Gr 2, 1500m) before winning the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) in bloodless fashion, drawing away in style for a one and three quarter length victory. He was spelled thereafter, missing the major Spring contests,
efforts in defeat, running second in the Randwick Guineas (Gr 1,

A DUAL GROUP 1 WINNING SON OF STREET CRY A fortnight later, he got off the mark in the best possible fashion with a battling victory in the Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Caulfield. Under a patient ride from Damian Browne, Pride Of Dubai crept into contention and, having been produced to lead at the 100 metres pole, he dug deep to see off the late thrust of Reemah (Redoute’s Choice) by a head, with a further length and three quarters to Lake Geneva (Fastnet Rock) in third. Pride Of Dubai preserved his perfect record at the top level when taking out the Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick in April, but it was far from plain sailing. He was caught wide throughout under Hugh Bowman but showed class and bravery to sweep through to a three quarters of a length victory inside the final 100 metres.

HIS WEANLINGS SOLD FOR UP TO $100,000 He was sent off the $1.80 favourite next up in the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) as he looked to add a Group 1 victory to his collection, but he was run out of it by a neck close home by Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor), with subsequent Australian Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Wandjina (Snitzel) a length further back in third. Rich Enuff looked to be feeling the effects of a busy period when underperforming in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m) on his only other start in 2014, but he returned from a lengthy lay-off in August 2015 to run a good second in the Shark.com.au Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) over an inadequate trip. His next three runs, however, were disappointing, prompting his owners to attempt to freshen him up with a move from Ken Keys’ Cranbourne operation to Randwick-based team Paul and Peter Snowden. He had two starts for the Snowden’s, running third in the Southern Cross Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) and fifth in the Liverpool City Cup (Gr 3, 1300m), but having bled during the latter race, he was retired from racing.
