BREEDING STOCK SALES
Bring on the action
W
ELCOME to our final pullout of 2021 – though not our last extra by any means, as the Bloodstock Review is running down into the Dip and will be crossing the line later this month. The foal and mare sales are among the most pivotal auctions of the season as the two ends of the business help bring the curtain down on the calendar, and we have the key sales at Arqana, Goffs and Tattersalls comprehensively covered. Our offering begins with a handful of fillies and mares who are among those to immediately stop you quickly turning their catalogue page. We then focus on the racehorses-turned-sires who started their second careers last year and whose first foals are going through the ring over the next few weeks. Our third feature focuses on the mares in foal to the exciting 2021 intake of sires and who are being offered at the breeding stock sales. The digests that then follow pick out some of the anticipated highlights from the catalogues, while we also present the vital statistics from the 2020 editions of the relevant sales, heavily impacted of course by Covid-19. This year has been far from free of its clutches, but trade at yearling sales and most other auctions has been remarkably strong in the circumstances and foal and mare vendors will be hoping for more of the same, thank you very much. We will be bringing you all the action from the sales rings, first on racingpost.com and the app, and also of course in the newspaper, so stick with us for the best coverage and insight. Thanks to those who have supported this supplement through their advertising, and best of luck to all sellers and buyers at the sales. ANDREW SCUTTS, BLOODSTOCK MANAGING EDITOR

2yo b f StarspangledbannerFloriade (Invincible Spirit) Tattersalls, lot 1798 This filly, who is selling at Tattersalls next month, took the Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy and was second to Tenebrism in the Cheveley Park Stakes. The daughter of Starspangledbanner was an impressive winner on her debut at Goodwood in May and, following three efforts in black-type company, easily notched her first stakes success at Ripon before a career-best effort behind Aidan O’Brien’s star filly at Newmarket in September, which earned her a Racing Post Rating of 114. Bred by Newtown Stud and TJ Pabst, the two-year-old was picked up by Glenvale Stud for €65,000 as a foal from Goffs before selling to Arthur Hoyeau for 125,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2020. She is the fourth live foal out of Floriade – a winning daughter of Invincible Spirit and a full- or half-sister to two Group-placed performers in Lottie Dod and Travel Datuk – and a half-sister to five-time scorer Anyonecanhaveitall.
Grand Glory
5 b m Olympic Glory-Madonna Lily (Daylami) Arqana, lot 192 This season’s Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet winner, also a close second in the Prix de l’Opera, will be one of the highlights of Arqana’s Breeding Stock Sale next month. Bred by Haras de Bourgeauville, the daughter of Olympic Glory won her sole start at two before placing in Listed company on her first outing at three and then notching a win before her gallant third behind Channel in the Prix de Diane. A stakes winner on her first run at four and then second to Ambition in the Prix Corrida, Grand Glory won a deserved first Group race in the Prix de Flore that October, having also placed third in the Prix de Pomone in August. The five-year-old was second to Skalleti on her reappearance this term before another Group 3 strike in the Grand Prix de Vichy. She sprung a surprise when outbattling previous winner and Breeders’ Cup heroine Audarya in the Prix Jean Romanet in August but backed up that career-best performance when going down on her sword to Rougir on Arc day last month. Grand Glory, an €18,000 private purchase at Arqana’s October Yearling Sale, is the fifth foal out of the Daylami mare Madonna Lily, a halfsister to Grade 2 Canadian Stakes scorer Minakshi. Grand Glory is in turn a half-sister to last month’s Listed Prix du Ranelagh winner Bois D’Argent She is one of six individual

Group winners for Haras de Bouquetot resident Olympic Glory and one of two top-flight scorers alongside Coronation Stakes and Prix Rothschild heroine Watch Me. Olympic Glory, a son of Choisir who stood the 2021 breeding season for a fee of €5,000, is also responsible for Solario Stakes winner Etonian, Grosser Preis der MehlMulhens-Stiftung scorer Lucky Lycra plus American Graded winners Mintd and Quick.
Nahoodh
16 gr m Clodovil-Mise (Indian Ridge) Goffs, lot 1066 Memories will need to extend back a fair while to recall it, but here is a Group 1 winner, and she is offered in foal to a dual Group 1 winner. Nahoodh’s top-level success came in the 2008 Falmouth Stakes, in which she denied a couple of Cheveley Park homebreds in the hands of Frankie Dettori. The mare had a highly successful career on the racecourse, also gaining an important Group 2 victory as a two-year-old in the Lowther Stakes, and being denied a second Group 1 success by just a neck by Lush Lashes in the Matron Stakes. Nahoodh was trained by Mark Johnston, as is her daughter by Iffraaj, Outside World, who won a York novice event for the stable in July plus a Goodwood nursery in September. Listed winner Hawkesbury is Nahoodh’s most successful runner to date, but there is still time for her to leave further marks including with the foal she will be carrying around the Goffs sale ring. Darley sire Earthlight was at his best over sprint trips, winning the Middle Park Stakes and Prix Morny, and you would imagine Nahoodh’s next foal could make a twoyear-old while having the scope to train on. She is much the oldest mare featured in this half-dozen and to that end it would be pleasing if a good home awaited her.
Plying
11 b m Hard Spun-Nasaleb (Fairy King) Goffs, lot 1185 Jossetown Farm consigns what is sure to be one of the headline acts at Goffs this month, given the excellent performances of her daughter Alcohol Free this year. Not to mention the fact she is in foal to star Ballylinch sire Lope De Vega. Plying won three of her seven starts, once at Longchamp and twice at Toulouse, in the much loved maroon and white silks of Sheikh Mohammed, but she has proved a better broodmare, primarily through Chantilly Listed winner Alexander James, a son of Camelot, and especially via
Alcohol Free, one of this season’s star fillies. The daughter of No Nay Never was an excellent juvenile last year too, winning two of her three starts, notably the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes. She trained on well to win the Fred Darling on her reappearance, and while she was unable to provide connections with a Classic strike in the 1,000 Guineas, in which she finished fifth behind Mother Earth, it has been a great 2021 nonetheless, with the Andrew Balding-trained filly lifting the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and then beating the boys in the Sussex. Her exploits should ensure plenty of eyes are on Plying, whose two-year-old daughter Hooked On You, by Starspangledbanner, has also shown some promise this year in three runs for the Karl Burke yard.
‘She is much the oldest mare featured in this half-dozen and to that end it would be pleasing if a good home awaited her’
Speak Of The Devil
4 b f Wootton Bassett-Moranda (Indian Rocket) Arqana, lot 172 One shouldn’t really think or say it, but whenever Speak Of The Devil appeared, it was quite good sport listening to the French commentators call her name. They had frequent reason to near the climax of her races as only three times in a 12-race career has she finished out of the money and, with her turn of foot, it is something of a travesty that she has not won above Listed level. The winner of her only start at two, she was beaten an agonising nose in last year’s Poule d’Essai des Pouliches by Dream And Do after a troubled passage on her second start as a three-year-old. This summer she was beaten a head and a short head in the Prix Rothschild, behind Mother Earth and Sagamiyra, with subsequent Prix de l’Opera winner Rougir a short head behind her in fourth in what has got to rank the most exciting finish to a Group 1 this year. She has won two Listed races, the Prix de Saint-Cyr at Longchamp in 2020 and the Prix de la Calonne at Deauville this year. The daughter of Wootton Bassett was bred by Herve Viallon and sold from Trois Rivieres to Meridian International for €45,000 at Arqana’s December Sale in 2017. She was picked up by Fabrice Chappet for €62,000 at the October Yearling Sale the following year. Chappet trained her until she was switched to Frederic Rossi this summer. She is the fifth foal out of the winning Indian Rocket mare Moranda and a half-sister to three winners including threetime Group 3 winner Morando. The four-year-old is also from the family of Group winners Myasun, Batwan and La Carolina.
Nahoodh: winner of the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes in 2008
Waldlied
6 ch m New ApproachWaldlerche (Monsun) Tattersalls, lot 1839 Described as a ‘rare jewel’ by Tattersalls, it’s hard to argue as here we have from Newsells Park a three-parts sister to Arc hero Waldgeist who is in foal to Kingman. What’s more, the daughter of New Approach, the brilliant son of Galileo whose five Group 1 wins included the Derby, was high class on the track, winning the Group 2 Prix de Malleret at Saint-Cloud on July 1, 2018, on what was quite some day for her family. Just over an hour earlier Waldgeist, by Galileo of course, had become a Group 1 winner for the second time when successful in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. He would go on to scale even greater heights by winning twice more at the highest level, notably denying Enable in the Arc. Waldlied, who is also a halfsister to this year’s Gordon Richard Stakes winner Waldkonig, had her yearling colt by Kingman sell to Mike Ryan for 425,000gns at Book 1 last month, while she has a filly foal by Siyouni. At six, there are many miles left on her clock and, while the competition to top the mares sale will be red-hot, she will surely command a huge amount of attention when her turn comes quite deep into the second day of this auction next month.

BREEDING STOCK SALES
Masar and co flying the flag S
Kitty Trice on the stallions with first foals up for auction
Derby ace Masar on the track (inset and bottom) and at rest at Moulton Paddocks during his racing career
OME of the sires with their debut crop of foals selling over the course of the next few weeks will have been among the star performers of the last pre-Covid season, 2019. The bloodstock market was badly shaken by the pandemic, as you would expect, in 2020, but this summer and autumn has been little short of a revelation in terms of figures at yearling and horses in training sales, among others, and both stallion masters and mare owners with foals to sell will have been buoyed by the strength of trade.
Classic quality for middle distances
In providing Godolphin with their first Derby winner in their famous blue silks in 2018, Masar proved himself to be a flagship horse, not only for the Godolphin racing operation but also the Darley brand. The son and grandson of two Derby winners in New Approach and Galileo, as well as hailing from the family of Urban Sea on his dam’s side, perhaps it was somewhat inevitable he would be a Classic winner as Derby glory was in his blood. Precocious enough to defeat Invincible Army over six furlongs at Goodwood in May of his juvenile campaign, Masar also ticks the box when it comes to the all-important qualities of precocity and speed. He has 27 first-crop foals to represent him at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, including New England Stud’s colt (397) out of a winning full-sister to Queen Mary Stakes winner Jealous Again, Petches Farm’s colt (596) from the family of Subjectivist and Sir Ron Priestley, Charlock Stud’s colt out of a full-sister to Goodwood Cup heroine Illustrious Blue, and Brook Stud’s half-brother (890) to Railway Stakes scorer and National Stakes second Beckford.

‘The sole son of the much-missed Deep Impact at stud in Britain, Lanwades resident Study Of Man has all the credentials to be a sire of note in the future’ By contrast, but notably, Masar has just the one foal for sale at Arqana, a son of Al Baidaa (463). The sole son of the muchmissed Deep Impact at stud in Britain, Lanwades resident Study Of Man has all the credentials to be a sire of note in the future. The Prix du Jockey Club winner won his only start at two and hails from an outstanding Niarchos family, being out of a half-sister to French Classic winners Kingmambo and East Of The Moon, who are in turn out of the influential Miesque. Study Of Man has six foals catalogued at Tattersalls and one at Goffs, namely Ballydorgan Stud’s colt (423), whose family includes Starlit Sands and this season’s highclass juvenile filly Sandrine. By the late perennial champion sire Galileo and
from the fabulous and famed ‘W’ family, Waldgeist is another exciting prospect for Ballylinch Stud and plenty of eyes will be drawn to his first foals as they enter the sales rings of Britain, Ireland and France. Winner of the Criterium Saint-Cloud at two before a narrow second in the Prix du Jockey Club, the chestnut’s defining moment on the track came when denying Enable a record third consecutive Arc. However, it is looking ahead not back that will be the focus over the next few weeks and he will have 11 lots representing him at Goffs, with a further six heading to Park Paddocks and five to Deauville. Chief among his foals, at least from a pedigree perspective, are Newsells Park Stud’s three-parts sister to Listed winner and Park Hill
Stakes second Aljezeera (695), who is selling at Tattersalls, while at Goffs there is Oghill House Stud’s colt out of a full-sister to Racing Post Trophy hero Marcel (436) and Ballylinch Stud’s halfbrother to Brown Sugar and Burnt Sugar (580) who take the eye.
Mighty milers
Magna Grecia’s stock and reputation has been done no harm whatsoever by the excellent exploits of halfbrother St Mark’s Basilica this season, although he was hardly shabby on the track himself anyway, with victories in the Vertem Futurity and 2,000 Guineas to go with his outstanding family credentials. Coolmore’s son of Invincible Spirit looks set to be generously represented at Goffs and Tattersalls, and has a

couple of foals listed at Arqana. Highlight lots at Tattersalls include Church View Stables’ colt out of a full-sister to dual Nunthorpe Stakes hero Borderlescott (681) and Castletown Stud’s half-sister to German Oaks scorer Well Timed (991), while Goffs lots that catch the eye include Ballintry Stud’s filly out of a daughter of Italian Oaks heroine Bright Generation (557) and Woodford Stud’s half-sister to dual Group 3 scorer Onenightidreamed (634). Irish National Stud resident and Irish 2,000 Guineas victor Phoenix Of Spain – who reversed form with Magna Grecia at the Curragh after their Vertem Futurity head-tohead – is the latest son of Lope De Vega to have his first crop of foals on the scene. Both Kildare and Park Paddocks will witness the sale of a sizeable number of the attractive grey’s progeny, with the former hosting the likes of the Irish National Stud’s filly out of champion Italian juvenile Fly On The Night (274) and Baroda Stud’s halfsister to Phoenix Stakes scorer Lucky Vega (642). The latter’s haul includes the Norris Bloodstock-consigned filly out of a half-sister to Real World and Dubai Fountain (768). A champion two-year-old and top-class three-year-old with an electric turn of foot, Too Darn Hot has all the credentials to make his presence felt in his second career. By Dubawi and out of brilliant broodmare Dar Re Mi, he was unbeaten in four starts at two, including the Dewhurst, and won the Prix Jean Prat and Sussex Stakes the following term before injury and subsequent retirement to Dalham Hall. Highlights of foals by him selling at Tattersalls include New England Stud’s halfbrother to Summer Mile Stakes scorer and multiple Group 1-placed performer Aljamaaheer (961), a colt out of a stakes-winning full-sister to Irish Classic victor Roderic O’Connor (963), and Silfield Bloodstock’s filly out of an unraced full-sister to Godolphin’s top-class globetrotter Fantastic Light (663).
Speed superstars
Advertise was well received in his first year at stud and, given his excellent race record and physique, there is no reason why his first crop of foals should not prove popular. The son of Showcasing was a Group 1 winner at two and three, with placings in the Coventry, Dewhurst and July Cup also on his impressive CV. Among his representatives at Tattersalls are Cobhall Court Stud’s half-brother to Scarbrough Stakes winner and the Group 2-placed Global
Blue Point shows his prowess on the track when winning the 2019 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot; (right) parading at Dalham Hall Stud
Every reason to expect first crop from Advertise to prove popular Applause (747), and Stephen Kemble Bloodstock’s halfsister to American Grade 3 winner Simply Breathless (1044), while his Goffs lots include Annshoon Stud’s filly (919) out of a winning halfsister to Forest Storm, the dam of Night Of Thunder. A durable and consistent performer from two to five, Blue Point was another Royal Ascot-winning sprinter to enter the stallion ranks in 2020. The son of the late Shamardal not only became a rarified performer in winning the big Group 1 sprint double at the famed meeting, the King’s Stand and Diamond Jubilee, but had also proved a precocious talent at two, when winning the Gimcrack and placing in the Middle Park and Dewhurst Stakes. Needless to say he has plenty of representation at Tattersalls and Goffs, including at Kildare Paddocks with The Castlebridge Consignment’s colt out of Ballycorus Stakes winner Alanza (720), while Houghton Bloodstock offer a colt out of a half-sister to Blue
Bunting (630) at Tattersalls, where there will also be Ringfort Stud’s half-sister to Duke of Cambridge Stakes heroine Indie Angel (934). There is just the one opportunity for foal buyers at Arqana to get their hands on a Blue Point, in the form of a colt out of the former Michael Halford-trained Embiyra (244). Coolmore recruit Calyx was the first son of Kingman to be retired to stud and the Coventry Stakes winner has plenty of first-crop foals to represent him, with Langton Stud selling a colt (543) out of Cherry Hinton Stakes winner Please Sing at Tattersalls, while Collegelands Stud offers a half-sister (636) to this season’s stakes winner Bellosa at Goffs. He also has a couple of filly foals selling at Arqana, out of the once-raced De La Warr homebred Josephine Bettany (12) and the other out of dual winner Game Zone (266). Another notable sprinting recruit with first foals selling is Nunnery Stud resident
Eqtidaar, whose potential sale highlights include, at Tattersalls, Trickledown Stud’s filly (723) out of a half-sister to the dam of Asymmetric. Yeomanstown Stud recruit Invincible Army has a halfsister to Abernant Stakes victor and Prix de l’Abbaye third Hamza (581) catalogued at Goffs. Middle Park Stakes and July Cup hero Ten Sovereigns has a filly out of a full-sister to Irish St Leger winner Flag Of Honour (683) who will be sold by Genesis Green Stud at Tattersalls. Soldier’s Call, meanwhile, has a Coolagown Studconsigned daughter hailing from the family of Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes winner Perfect Power (124) at Goffs. The same consignor is also selling a Soldier’s Call colt out of Listed winner Spinning Lucy (906), again at Kildare Paddocks. Foals by Inns Of Court, Land Force and Le Brivido will also be worth looking out for across the sale rings of Britain, Ireland and France.

HE 2021 intake of new stallions in Britain and Ireland had something for everyone, ranging from speedsters on the track to Classic-winning performers among the milers, middledistance prospects and staying types. Coolmore welcomed a new son of their late perennial champion sire Galileo to their
roster in dual Royal Ascot winner and leading miler Circus Maximus, who stood for €20,000 this year but is priced at €12,500 for 2022. He is the only foal out of the high-class Duke of Cambridge Stakes victress Duntle and was a consistently high-class performer for Aidan O’Brien. Arc hero Sottsass was also new to Coolmore. The son of Siyouni and brilliant producer Starlet’s Sister stood for €30,000 this year, and is priced at €25,000 for 2022, while Coventry Stakes scorer Arizona (€7,000 this year, €6,000 for 2022) looks an excellent fit for
the more commercial breeder. Darley’s new recruits included Ghaiyyath, who stood 2021 at €30,000, whose defeats of Stradivarius, Enable and Magical led him to world champion honours, and two sons of the operation’s late and greatly missed Shamardal Earthlight (€20,000) and Pinatubo (£35,000). Having secured victories in the Prix Morny, Middle Park, National and Dewhurst Stakes at two between them, the duo’s first in-foal mares look sure to be popular at the upcoming breeding sales. As a Coventry Stakes-winning son of the high-flying No Nay Never, Arizona looks primed to be a popular choice for commercial breeders. An impressive winner of his maiden on his second start at the Curragh in the May of his juvenile season, he was also a fine second to the outstanding Pinatubo in the Dewhurst Stakes, finishing just two lengths behind the champion juvenile. Arizona has a number of mares in foal at Goffs and Tattersalls, including Natural Bloom (1543), a winning Galileo half-sister to Fairy Queen and Tashawak who will be offered as part of Sir Robert Ogden’s dispersal by Barton Sales at Tattersalls, and, at Goffs, Baroda Stud’s What Endures (1408), an unraced War Command half-sister to the stakes-winning Moyglare Stud Stakes fourth Bubbles On Ice. Durable miler Circus Maximus, the winner of the St James’s Palace and Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, and the Prix du Moulin, is the latest son of Galileo to take up stallion duties at Coolmore. Galileo of course has a strong reputation as a sire of sires and his latest stallion son received some of the choicest
mares from Coolmore and owner-breeders the Niarchos family, including Freedonia and Alpha Centauri. The standouts of the fiveyear-old’s mares in foal at the sales include, at Goffs, Coolagown Stud’s Marvellous Ways (1416), a Lawman halfsister to Master Carpenter; The Castlebridge Consignment’s Lifting Me Higher (1435), the dam of this season’s Hopping Stakes second Technique who sells at Tattersalls; and La Folie, from the family of Salsabil and who comes under the hammer at Arqana (554). Sottsass will be joined by another son of Siyouni in the brilliant St Mark’s Basilica on Coolmore’s roster, but the 2020 Arc hero, who was bred by Ecurie des Monceaux and raced in the colours of Peter Brant, has his own starring role to play. The half-brother to the topclass Sistercharlie has mares in foal at Goffs, Tattersalls and Arqana. At Tattersalls, European Sales Management consign a winning full-sister to Australian star Russian Camelot in Russian Camilla (1815), while The Castlebridge Consignment’s draft includes Nitika (1465), an unraced Fastnet Rock half-sister to Carl Jaspers-Preis scorer Nerium and Listed winner Nicolosio. There are 11 mares catalogued in foal to Sottsass at Arqana, including the Aga Khan’s Edilisa (1), from the family of Enzeli, Estimate, Ebadiyla and Edabiya.

An outstanding example of the Dubawi-Galileo cross, last year’s world champion Ghaiyyath has unsurprisingly proven popular in his first season at Kildangan Stud. The son of Dubawi was a high-class talent at two before missing most of his Classic year after a French Group 3 strike, but his route in a German Group 1 at four looked an ominous sign for his rivals at five, and so it proved. Demolition jobs duly followed in the Coronation Cup, Coral-Eclipse and Juddmonte International, taking the scalps of Stradivarius, Enable and Magical in turn, before he finished second to the lastnamed in the Irish Champion Stakes, which due to injury proved to be his last race Among the mares in foal to him who will be offered at Goffs are the Aga Khan’s Darvaza (1156), a daughter of Smart Strike and Darkara, the granddam of Almanzor; Ballybin Stud’s Sally Is The Boss (1194), the dam of runaway King George Stakes heroine Suesa; and Kiltinan Castle Stud’s Lost In Silence (1254), a winning Holy Roman Emperor half-sister to Grade 2 Monmouth Stakes winner Speaking Of Which. Darley also introduces two top-notch champion juveniles by Shamardal in Earthlight, who stands at Kildangan, and Pinatubo, the Dalham resident who was considered the best European juvenile since Celtic Swing in 1994. Earthlight won the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes before a Group 3 strike and second in the Prix de la Foret at three, while Pinatubo added the Prix Jean Prat to his unbeaten juvenile laurels, which included success in the National and Dewhurst Stakes. Among the mares in foal to Earthlight at Goffs are The Castlebridge Consignment’s L’Explora (1037), a winning daughter of Phoenix Stakes scorer Damson and a halfsister to Requinto, the Irish National Stud’s Sibling Honour (1304), a daughter of Bernardini and Coolmore Classic scorer Porto Roca, and Godolphin’s Nahoodh (1066), the winner of the Falmouth and Lowther Stakes and the dam of a stakes winner in Hawkesbury. Far Above, who is by the excellent Farhh, won four of his five starts on the track, with his final start proving to be a victory in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket. A graduate of Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and the Guineas BreezeUp Sale, the five-year-old’s mares at Kildare Paddocks include Godolphin’s Affina (1050), a winning daughter of Kodiac and a full-sister to Grand Prix de Deauville scorer Epistolaire. Sergei Prokofiev, a Groupwinning son of Scat Daddy and third to Calyx in the Coventry Far Above – winner of four of his five starts – shows his wellbeing at Starfield Stud; (inset from top) Rumble Inthejungle and King Of Change
Stakes, will be represented at Tattersalls by Glebe Farm Stud’s Infamous Angel (1954), a Lowther Stakes-winning daughter of Exceed And Excel and the dam of five winners, and Selwood Bloodstock’s Accolade (2130), a winning Orpen half-sister to Prix du Jockey Club and Poule d’Essai des Poulains second The Summit. Other fast and furious recruits included Ballyhane Stud’s Sands Of Mali, the winner of the British Champions Sprint Stakes who has a mare in foal at Goffs in Curragh House Stable’s Budding Rose (1490), a daughter of New Approach and German champion juvenile filly White Rose, Also on the scene are the likes of Rumble Inthejungle, winner of the Molecomb Stakes and a resident of Norman Court Stud, the LM Stallions pair of Grade 3-winning Scat Daddy son Legends Of War and Windsor Castle Stakes victor Southern Hills, and Almanaara, Mickley Stud’s winning Shamardal half-brother to Dark Angel.
Mile high club
A high-class crew of milers were retired for the 2021 breeding season, with 2,000 Guineas hero Kameko, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes scorer King Of Change and Sussex Stakes victor Mohaather among the most notable names. Tweenhills resident Kameko, the second son of Kitten’s Joy to stand at the Gloucestershire stud following the ill-fated Roaring Lion, has 21 catalogued mares in foal on sale at Park Paddocks, including the Juddmonteconsigned Sun Tide (1426), a winning Siyouni half-sister to multiple top-level heroine Midday; Hazelwood Bloodstock’s Noble Heritage (1649), a Golden Horn halfsister to Pakistan Star; and Float (1696), a Nathaniel three-parts sister to Irish Derby hero Treasure Beach offered by Tweenhills. King Of Change, a son of Farhh who along with his QEII win at Ascot was second to Magna Grecia in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, stands at Derrinstown Stud, with his fee for 2022 reduced to €6,000 from €7,000. He is represented by a number of mares at Goffs, including Olive O’Connor’s Colomone Cross (1032), the dam of Mums Tipple, and Airlie Stud’s Lady Slippers (1040), a full-sister to Coventry Stakes scorer CD Europe and the dam of stakes winner The Tulip. Shadwell’s exciting new prospect Mohaather has 12 mares in foal to him that were listed to be sold at Park Paddocks, including Newsells Park Stud’s Bruxcalina (2119), the dam of British Champions Sprint Stakes winner Librisa Breeze, and Norris Bloodstock’s Twilight Thyme (2186), an unraced Bahamian

Bounty half-sister to top-class sprinter and Cheveley Park’s promising young sire Twilight Son. Buyers at Arqana have just the one mare in foal to Mohaather to focus on, JM Jackson (78), who was runnerup in the Listed National Stakes for the Mark Johnston yard. Other names to spring out include Newsells Park Stud’s Without Parole, a son of Frankel who won the St James’s Palace Stakes and whose eight in foal at Tattersalls include Overbury Stud’s Pigota (1956), a daughter of Invincible Spirit and German Oaks heroine Penelopa. Likewise, Shaman, a Wertheimer homebred who resides at Yeomanstown Stud and has four mares in foal at Goffs including Ballybin Stud’s Alland (1503), a Teofilo halfsister to Breton Rock. Tara Stud’s Grade 1-winning son of Dandy Man, River Boyne, was another notable addition to the stallion ranks whose name will crop up at the breeding stock sales, as will Clongiffen Stud’s Royal Lytham, a juvenile Group 2-winning son of Gleneagles, and LM Stallions’ Tip Two Win, a son of Dark Angel who was runner-up to Saxon Warrior in the 2,000 Guineas.

HE Goffs November Foal Sale is renowned globally for its allround quality, with previous graduates including last year’s world champion Ghaiyyath, Coronation Stakes, Sussex Stakes and Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Alcohol Free, and Flying Five Stakes victress Romantic Proposal. This year’s catalogue looks typically strong and with a poignant undertone as organisers believe it will feature the only foals by the late, great perennial champion sire Galileo to be offered at public auction. Coolmore’s champion sire may have given second best to his best son, and dual world champion, Frankel in the GB/ Ire and European sires’ standings, but onlookers here will likely witness some fascinating duels as the great Continues page 14

BREEDING STOCK SALES GOFFS From page 12
and the good of the industry battle for some of the final and finite Galileo foals. The trio of Galileo goodies are Baroda Stud’s filly out of the Group 1-winning Scat Daddy mare Nickname (lot 624), The Castlebridge Consignment’s filly out of the Group 2 Queen Mary and Prix Robert Papin winner Signora Cabello (665), and a colt out of Scat Daddy’s Albany Stakesplaced daughter Take Me With You (689), likewise offered by The Castlebridge Consignment. Another sale not to be missed, and one that has in past years sold the dams of Poetic Flare, Mother Earth, Lucky Vega, Pretty Gorgeous and Thunder Moon, the Goffs Breeding Stock Sale is a great spectacle for buyers and bloodstock enthusiasts alike. Among the chock-a-block quality lots are mares in foal to Group 1-winning sires such as Camelot, Dark Angel, Invincible Spirit, Kingman, Kodiac, Lope De Vega, Mehmas, Night Of Thunder, No Nay Never, Oasis Dream, Sea The Stars and Wootton Bassett, while exciting sires with their first mares in foal include Arizona, Circus Maximus, Earthlight, Ghaiyyath, Persian King and Pinatubo.
First-crop sire strength THERE are a number of opportunities for buyers to check out the first foals of Arc hero Waldgeist, Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain, Newmarket Classic victor Magna Grecia and several other promising young stallions. Oghill House Stud consigns a Waldgeist colt out of an unraced full-sister to Racing Post Trophy scorer Marcel (436), while Swordlestown
‘Another sale not to be missed, and one that has in past years sold the dams of Poetic Flare, Mother Earth, Lucky Vega, Pretty Gorgeous and Thunder Moon’
Little offers a filly by the Ballylinch Stud sire out of a stakes-placed Cape Cross mare from the family of Taghrooda (534). Among Phoenix Of Spain’s multiple representatives are Baroda Stud’s half-sister to Phoenix Stakes victor Lucky Vega (642), while Magna Grecia can call upon 19 lots to put his name up in lights, including a colt consigned by Highpark (362) whose granddam, Palmette, is a fullsister to Showcasing. Fellow Coolmore recruit,
Coventry Stakes scorer Calyx, the first son of Kingman to retire to stud, has 22 lots on offer including Drumachon Stud’s half-sister to stakes winner and Queen Mary second Easton Angel (144).
Champ-to-be standing tall IT IS the dawning of a new – and arguably more diverse – era in European bloodstock without the almighty presence of Galileo, but his best son
Frankel looks ready to take over his crown. Banstead Manor Stud’s superstar may, like his late great sire, have only three lots on offer at this foal sale, but what is lacking in quantity is more than made up for in quality. Take for instance Newtown Stud’s filly (652), a half-sister to German Derby hero and burgeoning Lanwades Stud resident Sea The Moon. The February-born filly is out of a full-sister to Group 1 winners Schiaparelli, Samum and Salve Regina.
The dual world champion also has several foals out his daughters catalogued, while his leading son, dual Champion Stakes hero and Dalham Hall Stud resident Cracksman, has two lots in the four-day sale, both colts and offered by The Castlebridge Consignment (113 and 351).
Beauties from Wootton Bassett COOLMORE’S new recruit Wootton Bassett, who will

stand for €150,000 in 2022, had a whopping book of 244 mares this season, and although only two mares covered by the burgeoning sire remain on offer here, they are both lots who could easily bring sixfigure price tags. The first to be offered is The Castlebridge Consignment’s Rain Or Shine (1108), a dualwinning daughter of the late Zoffany and a half-sister to the American stakes winner Amanzi Yimpilo. The pair are out of the Galileo mare Honourably, a half-sister to the Group-placed Honour Bright and from the family of Listed winner Dibayani, whose major claim to fame was when finishing second to the mighty Winx in the Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick in 2016. Baroda Stud will offer another potential collectors’ item in Grenadine (1181), a daughter of Galileo who is a Munster Oaks-winning Dansili half-sister to Derby runner-up US Army Ranger and Group 3 scorer Nelson, and a full-sister to Lingfield Derby Trial winner Nevis. Under the third dam is European champion threeyear-old filly L’Ancresse – the dam of high-class stayer Master Of Reality and the promising Sibila Spain – and Prix Saint-Alary scorer Cerulean Sky.

Racing Post Thursday, November 11, 2021
Garmoosha catches eye OF THE Derrinstown Stud draft, the unraced Kingmambo mare Garmoosha (1085) is one who readily catches the eye. The 13-year-old is the dam of two winners, most notably Prix de Pomone winner and Prix Vermeille runner-up Raabihah, the winner of four races in total for Jean-Claude Rouget and Shadwell. Garmoosha, who has also produced the American winner and stakes-placed Kitten’s Joy filly Filfila, has an unraced full-sister to the latter named alongside a More Than Ready yearling filly. Garmoosha, a half-sister to Fillies’ Mile third Firdaws, is in turn out of an Oaks winner in Eswarah, whose own dam is Oaks, 1,000 Guineas and Prix
Marcel Boussac heroine Midway Lady, the dam of ten winners from 12 offspring to have made the track. The mare is selling with a Sea The Stars cover.
Plying looks a highlight PLYING (1185) had already been responsible for the Listed-winning Camelot gelding Alexander James before Alcohol Free first ran, but the daughter of No Nay Never’s subsequent exploits have meant Plying heads to the Kildare Paddocks Sale as arguably the catalogue highlight. The Rabbah Bloodstockbred 11-year-old was a dual winner for Alex Pantall and Sheikh Mohammed, but the daughter of Hard Spun has blossomed during her second career.
Alcohol Free has done little wrong in two seasons of racing for Andrew Balding and Jeff Smith, supplementing her Cheveley Park Stakes score last autumn with victories in the Coronation and Sussex Stakes this summer, with the latter win involving a ready defeat of 2,000 Guineas hero Poetic Flare. The likelihood of her remaining in training at four means prospective buyers have the promise of further embellishment to Plying’s broodmare record. Moreover, Plying’s Starspangledbanner filly Hooked On You – a 130,000gns purchase from Tattersalls December Sale as a yearling by Creighton Schwartz Bloodstock for John and Jess Dance – was a promising third on her second start in October. Further updates on that score look likely too.

BREEDING STOCK SALES TATTERSALLS
T
HE cream of the bloodstock industry from around the world descends on Park Paddocks for what is a bonanza of some of the finest broodmares and exciting breeding prospects there are. Last year’s sale was topped when Beach Frolic, the dam of world champion miler and hugely exciting new Dalham Hall Stud resident Palace Pier, sold to MV Magnier for 2,200,000gns, and there could be similar fireworks with many a top-class producer on display in the Tattersalls sales ring. It’s hard to know where to start in picking out the real outstanding highlights. Certainly among them are Sunday Times (1810), the dam of Newspaperofrecord who has been covered by Lope De Vega, while there are fine young prospects such as Waldlied (1839), a Group 2-winning daughter of New Approach and a three-parts sister to Arc hero and Ballylinch Stud sire Waldgeist who is in foal to Kingman, and Cayenne Pepper (1840), a Group 2-winning daughter of Australia who was second in last year’s Irish Oaks. There is also the potential for hugely exciting updates too. An example from the 2020 sale was Chasemore Farm and Chris Stedman picking up Frankel’s Storm, a Listedplaced daughter of Frankel, for 160,000gns. This year her fullbrother, a certain Hurricane Lane, has won the Irish Derby, Grand Prix de Paris and St Leger in a terrific campaign for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin. High-quality drafts from Juddmonte are regular highlights at the sale. The National and Dewhurst Stakes winner Native Trail’s dam was sold by Juddmonte to MAB Agency for just 60,000gns in 2015. Among Juddmonte’s 2021 draft are mares in foal to the stud’s supersires Frankel and Kingman as well as full- or half-siblings to Epicuris, Franconia, Midday, Sangarius and Quadrilateral. Shadwell’s sizeable draft, Continues page 18

considerably larger than in recent years due to the restructuring of the late Hamdan Al Maktoum’s empire, also looks to hold several diamonds waiting to be mined. The downsizing operation will sell mares in foal to young sires Blue Point, Masar, Mohaather, Persian King and Pinatubo, as well as established stallions Dark Angel, Invincible Spirit, Kingman and Oasis Dream. The Foal Sale also holds plenty of appeal and, similarly, picking out any particular lot is difficult, but Weylands Stud’s Sea The Stars half-brother to Limato (958) catches the eye, as do siblings to Tropbeau, Nando Parrado and Indie Angel, among others.
Waldlied a standout NEWSELLS PARK STUD consignments are synonymous with quality and this year’s draft here looks no exception. Previous graduates offered by the stud at this sale include Hazariya, who sold to MV Magnier and Mayfair Speculators for 2,000,000gns, the mare’s son Harzand having landed the English and Irish Derbys earlier that year, and Beautiful Morning, a daughter of Galileo and Date With Destiny, the sole offspring of George Washington, who made 1,400,000gns to Hugo Lascelles at the 2018 sale. This year’s draft looks to have plenty of strength in depth, although the eye is naturally drawn to Waldlied (1839), the winner of the Group 2 Prix de Malleret and a daughter of New Approach and Waldlerche, dam of Arc hero Waldgeist. She also has an exciting update to hand as she is carrying to Kingman. Other notable mares and fillies from the Hertfordshire nursery include Dialled In (1415), an unraced daughter of Iffraaj and the aforementioned Date With Destiny who has been covered by Newsells’ new sire Without Parole. There is also Golden Darling (1835), an unraced daughter of Australia and Prix du Moulin heroine Grey Lilas and a three-parts sister to dual French Classic heroine Golden Lilac. Others in the draft include EP Taylor Stakes scorer Blonde Continues page 20

BREEDING STOCK SALES TATTERSALLS From page 18
Me (1837), Cayenne Pepper (1840), a Group 2-winning daughter of Australia and second in the Irish Oaks, and Bruxcalina (2119), the dam of British Champions Sprint Stakes winner Librisa Breeze.
Pivotal pearls BUYERS will have only two opportunities to get their hands on the final foals by Cheveley Park Stud’s phenomenal Pivotal, who was retired at the grand old age of 28 earlier this year. The first lot (589) is offered by Cheveley Park and he is a bay colt out of a winning fullsister to Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine Queen’s Trust and a daughter of Group 3 Winter Hill Stakes scorer Queen’s Best. It is a family that has been provided with recent updates thanks to Domestic Spending’s Grade 1-winning exploits in the United States, while Thundering Nights did the page no harm either when landing the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh in June. Drumroy Farm, meanwhile, consigns a filly (1024) out of a daughter of Group 1 Coolmore Classic runner-up Forum Floozie. The February-born foal surely possesses a great deal of value given her sire’s record as a broodmare sire, while to boot she has a page with plenty of talented performers. They include Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Prix du Moulin scorer Starcraft and the New Zealand Group 1-placed Sports Illustrated under the third dam.
Dispersal diamonds SIR ROBERT OGDEN’S famous silks have been represented on the track by household names on the Flat and over jumps, but many of the fillies and mares in his dispersal through Barton Sales are collectors’ items in their own right. Undoubtedly leading the way is dual Group 1 winner
Amazing Maria (1876), a homebred daughter of the late Mastercraftsman whose finest moments on the track came in the Prix Rothschild and Falmouth Stakes, while she was also a Royal Ascot winner in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes. She is offered in foal to Oasis Dream. Other intriguing broodmare and potential broodmare prospects include Amazing Grace (1868), an unraced daughter of Dubawi and the aforementioned Amazing Maria who is in foal to Teofilo. There is also Golden Hind (1873), a winning Golden Horn half-sister to Amazing Maria; another half-sister to the dual Group 1 scorer in Turandot (1874), a three-time winner by Frankel; and Agincourt (1875), winner of the Rosemary Stakes and runner-up in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes. The 85-year-old Ogden has been a leading owner, over jumps especially, through such as Voy Por Ustedes, Squire Silk, Iris Royal, Exotic Dancer, See More Business and Marlborough.
Jewels from Juddmonte THE Tattersalls December Mares Sale would not be quite the same without the presence of a draft from the late Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte operation. With bloodlines and pedigrees that are not usually accessible outside of a sale ring, buyers will be keen to get their hands on broodmares or fillies who hail from a number of the farm’s finest families. A quick glance at the draft shows a number of the mares consigned to be carrying to Frankel or Kingman, among of course a raft of top-notch stallions, including the winning Tacitly (1425), a daughter of Dubawi and Falmouth Stakes scorer Timepiece who is in foal to Frankel, and Colourful (1424), a placed Champs Elysees halfsister to Powerscourt who has been covered by Kingman. Its A Given (1421), a dual winning daughter of Bated Breath from the family of King’s Stand Stakes winner
Prohibit, is offered in foal to Banstead Manor’s Oasis Dream, Showcasing’s fullsister Palmette (1422) is selling having been covered by another Juddmonte sire, Expert Eye, while Sun Tide (1426), a Siyouni half-sister to the brilliant Midday, comes under the hammer in foal to Kameko. Juddmonte also offers a number of blue-blooded fillies out of training, some of which would take pride of place among any broodmare band. They include Captious (1848), a winning Frankel half-sister to Critérium de Saint-Cloud scorer Epicuris, Not In Doubt (1852), a winning daughter of Sea The Stars and Intercontinental, in turn a daughter of the mighty blue hen Hasili, and Quilted (1853), a winning full-sister to Fillies’ Mile winner Quadrilateral.
Intriguing Coulsty colt IT WAS a case of giant-killing when Rathasker Stud resident
Coulsty’s daughter Shantisara, a 10,000gns purchase by Federico Barberini from the Guineas Breeze-Up Sale, struck against fillies by the likes of Galileo and Kingman in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland. That was a fairytale first toplevel winner for the son of Kodiac, who has a well-related sole offering at the foal sale at Tattersalls. Baroda Stud’s April-born colt (563) is out of the twiceplaced Zoffany mare Princess Zoffany – who comes from the family of Queen Elizabeth II and St James’s Palace Stakes third Gold Academy – and is therefore a full-brother to the second of Coulsty’s Group winners in Princess Margaret Stakes scorer Santosha, who was also third in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes. Coulsty has not only enhanced his own reputation but also that of Kodiac as a sire of sires; another son to have sired a Group/Grade 1 winner this term is Overbury Stud’s first-season sire Ardad, whose 2022 fee has rocketed to £12,500.

Limato relation to the fore WEYLANDS STUD presents an exciting prospect in a Sea The Stars half-brother to July Cup and Prix de la Forêt winner Limato (958), a durable and popular racehorse during his time in training for Henry Candy and Paul Jacobs. The March-born foal’s sire needs no introduction and has enjoyed another fine year, with unbeaten Baaeed and Prix Vermeille scorer Teona, but there is also plenty of upside to his dam’s page too. Come April, a winning daughter of Singspiel, has of course produced a top-notcher in 12-time black-type winner Limato, but she is in turn out of an unraced full-sister to CoralEclipse and Craven Stakes victor Compton Admiral. Further back in the pedigree is Ribblesdale runner-up Twyla Tharp, the dam of champion older mare The Fugue, and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes scorer Summoner. In short, this is an offering not to be missed.

BREEDING STOCK SALES ARQANA
A
RQANA’S Breeding Stock Sale has been firmly on the mind this year thanks to the exploits of National and Dewhurst Stakes scorer Native Trail, French 1,000 Guineas heroine Coeursamba, Prix Marcel Boussac winner Zellie and Prix de l’Opera winner Rougir. An exceptional 13 offspring out of mares purchased at the Vente d’Elevage have struck at the highest level this term, including Coronation and Sussex Stakes heroine Alcohol Free, whose dam Plying, who sells at Goffs next week, was purchased here for €12,000 by BBA Ireland from Godolphin in 2013. Their number also includes Goodwood Cup winner Trueshan and Flying Five scorer Romantic Proposal, while 2020 Breeders’ Cup winner Aunt Pearl’s dam Matauri Pearl sold for €400,000 here six years ago. This extremely strong sale should cap off what is likely to be a really healthy round of breeding stock sales in Ireland, Britain and France.
Grand likely to take the Glory OLYMPIC GLORY mare Grand Glory (192) was an admirable performer even before her breakthrough Group 1 triumph in the Prix Jean Romanet in August, with a third in the Prix de Diane and a Group 3 success in the Prix de Flore among her best efforts over the previous two seasons. The five-year-old, who is out of a half-sister to a Canadian Grade 2 winner in Minakshi, cost a mere €18,000 from Arqana’s October Yearling Sale, although she is a surefire bet to command a much heftier price when she takes her turn in the Deauville sales ring. The Gianluca Bietolinitrained mare, who is consigned by Haras de Castillon, was beaten a nose by Rougir in the Prix de l’Opera on Arc day last month, when taking her earnings to just under half a million pounds, and the six-time winner is due to bid to add to her laurels in the Japan Cup later this month. It is a hugely welcome thing for such a contest to have challengers from Europe, so win, lose or draw at Tokyo, good on connections for having a go.
Ammerland draft appeals GESTUT AMMERLAND looks to have an exciting racing prospect in Sea The Moon’s two-year-old full-sister Sea The Sky, an eyecatching winner on her debut at Chantilly this month, and the leading operation has a draft which comprises seven blueblooded fillies and mares. Among them is Lady Livonia
Expect another strong sale to cap fine round across Ireland, Britain and France (23), a half-sister to leading sire Lope De Vega and a fullsister to the Group 3 winner and Prix de l’Opera third Lady Frankel, who is in foal to New Bay. Also among the strong consignment are Wildfeder (188), a winning full-sister to Arc hero Waldgeist, and Annabel’s Choice (191), a Dubawi half-sister to Charming Thought who is carrying to Waldgeist.
Devil can do all the talking FRENCH 1,000 Guineas runner-up Speak Of The Devil (172) boosted her already considerable value when adding a third Listed success to her name with a threelength success at Saint-Cloud late last month. The four-year-old daughter of Wootton Bassett was a €45,000 purchase from this sale in 2017 and a €62,000 buy from the October yearling sale, while she is a half-sister to multiple Group 3 scorer Morando among three individual winners. Speak Of The Devil had no luck in running when beaten a nose by Dream And Do in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches

More magic from Monceaux? THERE is always much to note among the draft from Ecurie des Monceaux, and the class of 2021 looks no exception. Among the highlights is Group 3 runner-up Tangut (155), a four-year-old winning daughter of Adlerflug and a sister to Group 2 winner Tusked Wings from the close family of last month’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe hero Torquator Tasso. Another is Group 2 Critérium de Maisons-Laffitte winner Malavath (163), a
daughter of Mehmas and from the close family of Group winners Steip Amach and Ceisteach. The two-year-old so nearly brought a huge update to the table, finishing half a length second to Pizza Bianca in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar last week. Listed third Sun Bear (165), meanwhile, is a daughter of Dubawi out of Irish Oaks winner Great Heavens, and is a full-sister to this season’s Chantilly Group 3 winner Thunder Drum. She is carrying her first foal, by Siyouni Also offered by Monceaux is the Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Aloha Star (182). The three-year-old daughter of Starspangledbanner, winner of the Airlie Stud Stakes at the Curragh last year, is from the family of Galiway and Silent Name.
