newest names on the roster

grabs this summer are Kameko, Persian King, Romanised and Sottsass.

Tweenhills-based 2,000 Guineas victor Kameko, by Kitten’s Joy, has nicely bred lots in most of the major summer sales, including a half-brother to classy Buckaroo (42) and filly out of Group 1-placed Know It All (258), both being sent by Monceaux to Arqana August; a half-sister to speedy filly Nymphadora (321) from Manister House Stud at Goffs UK; and a filly out of the smart Dubawi mare Dubara (112) being presented by the National Stud at Tattersalls Somerville.

Arqana August and V2 feature no shortage of choice of lots by Persian King, Haras d’Etreham’s son of Kingman whose three Group 1 wins at around a mile included the Poule d’Essai des Poulains. Etreham’s half-brother to stakes scorers Sivoliere and Suphala, out of the Listedwinning Kingmambo mare Sefroua (56), and Haras des Capucines’ half-brother to Australian Group 2 winner King Of Leogrance (135) look the pick on paper.

Romanised, a son of Holy Roman Emperor who landed the Irish 2,000 Guineas and Prix Jacques le Marois, also stands in France, at Haras de Bouquetot, so across the Channel is the place to go for his yearlings too. The Channel Consignment’s half-sister to German Group 2 winner Boscaccio (158) at Arqana August takes the eye.

Sottsass stands at Coolmore in County Tipperary but because he is by Normandy sire sensation Siyouni and was trained in France, where he won the Prix du Jockey Club and Arc, he has a strong turnout at Arqana. The Fairway Consignment’s half-sister to Phoenix Stakes winner Sudirman and the talented pair Roman Empire and Star Of India (66) should make a good racehorse and has oodles of residual value.

Maiden yearling sires Circus Maximus, King Of Change, Mohaather, River Boyne and Without Parole all excelled over a mile.

Coolmore’s St James’s Palace Stakes, Prix du Moulin and Queen Anne Stakes victor Circus Maximus, immaculately well bred being by Galileo out of Duntle, has only one lot in the early sales –but that happens to be a halfbrother to Listed scorer Kimngrace (128) being sold by Jamie Railton at Tattersalls Somerville.

King Of Change, a precious son of Farhh who defeated a high-class field to win the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and stands at Starfield Stud, has five lots heading to Goffs UK

Premier. WH Bloodstock consign a particularly wellbred example, a half-brother to the precocious and pacey Mums Tipple (352).

Sussex Stakes hero Mohaather, a noted goodlooker by Showcasing who stands at Nunnery Stud, has just one lot at Arqana, but she is a half-sister to Group 2 winner San Huberto (53) from Etreham.

Among his ten in Doncaster are three siblings to stakes scorers – Barton Stud’s halfsister to Sir Boris (125), Boherguy Stud’s three-parts brother to Showout (173) and Bearstone Stud’s half-sister to Ventura Rebel (409) – while his four at Somerville include Hegarty Bloodstock’s halfsister to the smart Savaanah (6).

River Boyne, a son of Dandy Man who joined Tara Stud after taking the Frank E Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita, has sparse representation at the summer yearling sales, but one to watch out for is Tara’s own half-brother to Listed-placed Live On Stage out of a Manduro half-sister to Covert Love at Goffs UK (121).

Frankel’s St James’s Palace Stakes-winning son Without Parole, who stands at Newsells Park Stud, has a handful of lots in the early yearling sales.

Ringfort Stud’s colt out of a blueblooded daughter of ace broodmare sire Oasis Dream (243), one of four by the sire at Tattersalls Somerville, makes considerable appeal.

Of course, many of the summer yearling sales are all about sharp, speedy stock, and there are numerous new yearlings sires who should be able to supply those – the likes of Arizona, Far Above, Golden Horde, Hello Youmzain, Rumble Inthejungle, Sands Of Mali, Sergei Prokofiev, Threat, Van Beethoven and Wooded.

The pedigree pick of the early lots by Arizona, a Coventry Stakes winner by No Nay Never based at Castlehyde

Stud, is perhaps the half-sister to accomplished Scandinavian performer Stroxx Carlras (303) being presented by Rockview Stables at the Somerville sale.

The six by Starfield Studstationed Palace House Stakes winner Far Above at Goffs UK include a Tally-Ho Studoffered half-brother to Group 3 winner Ayaar and classy handicapper Dual Identity (231), and the three by the son of Farhh at Tattersalls next month include a Houghton Bloodstock-consigned filly out of the Listed-placed Mayson mare Clubbable (85).

Arqana V2 is the place to be for the widest choice of lots by Golden Horde, a Commonwealth Cup-winning son of Lethal Force who is based at Montfort et Preaux. Haras de Colleville’s colt out of Kendiss, a winning Kendargent full-sister to stakes winners Kendly and Surrey Mist (462), has one of the better pages.

Hello Youmzain, the wellbred son of Kodiac who won the Haydock Sprint Cup and Diamond Jubilee Stakes before retiring to Haras d’Etreham, has more than 30 lots due to sell in Deauville in the next few weeks.

Of particular interest on pedigree are Haras de Montaigu’s half-brother to Soffia (40), Haras de la Louviere’s half-brother to Witch Hunter (79), Ecurie des Monceaux’s half-brother to National Defense (138) and Haras de la Perelle’s halfbrother to Giofra (232).

Rumble Inthejungle, a Molecomb Stakes winner and Middle Park Stakes third by Bungle Inthejungle, hasn’t been strongly supported at Norman Court Stud but there’s no reason why he shouldn’t get fast and forward runners. Norman Court (107) and Llety Farms (267) send up colts by him with deep pages to Tattersalls Somerville.

Sands Of Mali, by Panis, won the Gimcrack Stakes at two and British Champions

Sprint at three before joining the roster at Ballyhane Stud. His eight lots in Doncaster include a filly out of smart sprinter Red Balloons from Ballyhane (134), a half-brother to Cumberland Lodge Stakes winner Laraaib from Knockatrina House Stud (163) and a filly out of Australian Group 2 scorer French Bid from Raheendaw Farm (416).

Sergei Prokofiev, a strongly supported Group 3 winner by Scat Daddy who stands at Whitsbury Manor Stud, looks a likely candidate for leading freshman honours in 2024.

Harry Dutfield’s half-sister to this season’s dual juvenile winner Harvanna (256) and Manister House Stud’s half- brother to high-class two-yearold Sam Maximus (364) stand out among the 15 in Doncaster, while Hegarty Bloodstock’s half-brother to three winners out of Group 2-placed Tongue Twista (14) and Norris Bloodstock’s colt out of Italian Group 3 scorer Buonasera (69) feature among the 17 listed at Tattersalls.

Wooded, Haras de Bouquetot’s Prix de l’Abbayewinning son of Wootton Bassett, has received a handy pedigree update on the eve of his first yearlings selling, with his brother Bucanero Fuerte taking the Phoenix Stakes. His largest draft is at Arqana V2, where his nine lots include a filly out of a winning Lawman mare from one of her consignor Haras de la Louviere’s finest families (345).

Finally, Haras de l’Hotellerie offers something of a novelty by a first-crop sire at Arqana August, in multiple US Grade 1 winner Maximum Security’s filly out of Idle Hour, a stakesplaced daughter of Malibu Moon and La Brea Stakes winner Downthedustyroad (246).
