CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME The Queensland Winter Racing Carnival is a premier event on the state’s sporting calendar. Steeped in 125 years of tradition, it has long been regarded the home of Australian racing during the winter. The 2015 Queensland Winter Racing Carnival marks one of the most significant progressions in the carnival’s history and indeed the state’s thoroughbred product. Recent feature prizemoney increases, coupled with amendments to the winter racing schedule, will take our flagship product to a new level, laying a foundation upon which we can continue to build into the future. The jewel in the crown, of course, is Stradbroke Day with three Group 1’s, including the $2 million Stradbroke Handicap, three Group 2 and three Listed Races. The carnival is our showpiece and once again the eyes of the nation will turn to Queensland as the nation’s top horses hit the turf in some of the most time-honoured races the country has seen. When you reflect upon the history of racing in the state, the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival has often provided the stage upon which our champions have shone. From Pyrrhus’s inaugural Stradbroke win in 1890 to the late Rough Habit’s Doomben 10,000-Stradbroke doubles in 1991 and 1992 and River Lad’s emotional victory for Natalie McCall last year, the Queensland Winter Carnival highlights reel is never short of contenders. In 2015, we will write a chapter unlike any other before it. And with that, I welcome you to the 2015 Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. GLORY
The 2015 Queensland Winter Racing Carnival revamp has been structured in a way that provides horses which have competed in the Championships in Sydney to progress through the Queensland winter. There are ample opportunities for horses to continue their autumn campaigns in Queensland. BTC CUP $500,000 G1 WFA 1200M 9 MAY: After competing in the WFA TJ Smith 1200m at Randwick on 4 April, consideration could be given to starting in the $200,000 Victory Stakes (WFA) 1200m G2 at Gold Coast on 25 April as a lead-up to this race. Likewise, the above events could be used as lead-ups to the $750,000 Doomben 10,000 G1 (WFA) 1350M at Doomben on 23 May.

DOOMBEN CUP $650,000 G1 WFA 2000M 9 MAY: After competing in the $3,000,000 Doncaster Hcp 1600m at Randwick on 4 April and/or the $4,000,000 Queen Elizabeth Stakes WFA 2000m on 11 April, the $358,000 G2 Hollindale Stakes WFA 1800m at the Gold Coast is the traditional lead-up to this event.
DOOMBEN 10,000 $750,000 G1 WFA 1350M 23 MAY: The Doomben 10,000 is an ideal evolution for horses which compete in the T.J Smith WFA 1200M and/or the All Aged Stakes 1400M at Randwick. Extend your carnival campaign to Queensland and race in the Victory Stakes or the BTC Cup, to secure a place in the Doomben 10,000.
QUEENSLAND OAKS $500,000 G1 2200M AT DOOMBEN ON 30 MAY: Fillies that compete in the ATC Oaks G1 over 2400m for $1,000,000 on 11 April, can come to Queensland for this race with the principal lead-up being The Roses G2 over 2000M at Doomben on 23 May.
The Listed Princess Stakes $100,000 2000m on 9 May is another suitable option for those looking to extend their campaign to QLD.
STRADBROKE HCP $2,000,000 G1 1350M AT DOOMBEN ON 6 JUNE: Horses which compete in the TJ Smith and/or the Doncaster Hcp at Randwick could progress to this race via the Victory Stakes, BTC Cup and Doomben 10,000.
TATT’S TIARA $500,000 1400M G1 FOR FILLIES AND MARES AT GOLD COAST TURF CLUB ON 20 JUNE: The $1,000,000 Queen of the Turf WFA 1600m on 11 April or the Doncaster Handicap on 4 April at Randwick, are the logical interstate events used as a lead-up to the final G1 of the season. The main local lead-up events are the G2 $200,000 Dane Ripper Stakes 1350m or the Stradbroke Hcp on 6 June.

Initially known as the Sunshine Coast Daily Cup, the Caloundra Cup Raceday is now one of the biggest meetings on the Sunshine Coast Turf Club’s racing calendar. Featuring prominently in the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, the Club usually attracts a strong crowd of around 5,000 keen racegoers who enjoy the live racing action in the warmth of the Queensland sun. Toowoomba Turf Club is Queensland’s home of twilight thoroughbred racing. Racing every Saturday evening, Toowoomba is home to Clifford Park Racecourse, one of Australia’s leading provincial race tracks. Clifford Park Racecourse was acquired as a 160-acre block in 1861 and the first meeting on it was conducted by the Darling Downs Jockey Club at the course then known as Drayton and Toowoomba Racecourse on 6 March 1862. In 1882, Toowoomba Turf Club was formed and conducted its first meetings on 3 & 4 June that year. The first recorded Toowoomba Cup as run in 1919. C
