TEAM MEMBER C1R Champagne, Sparkling,White & Rosé Guide
As our customer's drinking habits continue to change, the recent growth that we have been getting from our Refreshment category will continue. It is no secret that our customers are looking to try and explore lighter and refreshing styles of drinks and to accommodate this trend, we are introducing five new products to cater to this increasing customer need.
It's time to implement the first-ever Customer First Ranging (C1R) review for both the Champagne and Sparkling category, and the remaining White Wine categories (including Rosé).
REFRESHMENT
In Alternative Varietals (or Other White Varieties as the category is often called), we are seeing increased customer interest in fresh and lively wines. We have rationalised our range of some current varieties that were not showing a great return on space (Verdelho and Semillon) and increased our range of some wonderful International varieties that are also starting to see some great wines from local producers. With a focus on Fiano, Vermentino, Albarino and Gruner Veltliner, we have 20 new lines for our customers to discover in this space across our stores and online.
We have taken many learnings from the Red Wine Review, and we have applied those learnings to the C1R reviews in other categories. We are confident these reviews, with ranges developed for each store cluster, provides a great platform for growth and will allow us to further enhance our range by providing the right range in the right store, and continuing our ability to provide our customers with some great new discoveries.
SPARKLING ROSÉ
SAUVIGNON BLANC While Sauvignon Blanc remains our biggest category in White wine with a sales share of 40 per cent, many of our customers are looking for alternatives to this well-loved variety.
To help stores accommodate this new range, in many Premium and Discovery stores, we are adding an additional shelf into the planogram, expanding our maximum range from 30 to up to 50 Proseccos in appropriate stores. We have also moved the Italian Rosé sparkling wines into the Prosecco range, as these are made in the same way, and while are not currently able to be called Prosecco, we expect the Italian laws to change soon, and the naming conventions to change with them.
2
ROSÉ Last and by no means least, our Rosé category continues to grow very strongly (+19% YTD). We have increased our macro space available in this category in about 70 stores, and expect that we will expand Rosé space in more stores in the near future as the category continues to grow. We have refreshed our French Pinnacle range by deleting a couple of lines, but adding in eight new products, including some great examples for our Premium and Discovery stores.
We also see the strong growth in Rosé still wine translating into Sparkling Rosé growth (+5% YTD). To help continue that growth, we have ranged another six Sparkling Rosés in this review.
MOSCATO As most of you will know, many of our customers start their wine journey via the Sweet wine category. While we see some small declines in this category, we have enhanced our range with some fantastic new lines, including some more premium Moscato lines in appropriate stores.
Overall we have over 45 new lines coming as part of the Champagne and Sparkling review with over 18 new Pinnacle lines on the way. In the White Category, we have over 130 new lines across the nation, with 40 new Pinnacle lines. This guide is designed to help you navigate our outstanding new range with helpful tips, tasting notes and selling suggestions.

The Vallee de la Marne is one of the most important sub-regions in Champagne, source of the world's finest sparkling wines. Charles Orban has 25 hectares throughout the region, and a history dating back to 1770, making it one of Champagne's most serious players. They use all three famous grapes - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier - and yet they continue to offer amazing value. They are the "official Champagne producer" for the legendary rock band "The WHO" and have released this tribute cuvee, "Cuvee Roger Daltrey", sales of which raise money for their 'Teen Cancer America' charity. Clean, delicate, elegant, with notes of brioche, honey and pine nuts, this would be a must buy, even without the charity. For WHO fans, it is compulsory.

BRITANNIA CREEK SAWMILL CHARDONNAY 875436
Mount Benson is proving to be an exciting emerging Australian wine region. Oberon is perhaps a little better known as King of the Fairies in William Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. In mythology, Oberon has a magic cup - 'ever full for the virtuous' - and the winemaking team for this delicious Chardonnay see the soils of Mount Benson as a little like that magic cup. Indeed, they see them as providing some of the finest wines in the world in time. This is a brilliant start. Look for a Coonawarra Cabernet to follow.

If anything embodies the casual, sunlit, laidback way of life one experiences in the South of France then it must surely be a chilled glass of crisp Grenache Rosé. 'Lulu le Français' is designed to reflect just that. The grapes, grown on south facing slopes in the Languedoc (that is a good thing), imbue every glass with bright sunlight and cool sea-breezes. Floral and with spicy, slightly peppery notes, the wine is like a liquid bowl of fresh red berries. Delicious.
