NEW VENUE: Case Study, Kuala Lumpur

Case Study, the latest venue helmed by bartender Alvin AuYong has arrived in Kuala Lumpur. The venue is located in an old family owned printing factory that was established in the 1950s. The space has been transformed to include in-house professional services, co-working spaces, green pocket parks, community events and of course food and beverage venues including Case Study while keeping the factory in operation.

Creating the venue from scratch, Case Study seeks to push the boundaries in terms of flavours, hospitality, experience and essentially every aspect related to a bar. Albeit, in a more casual, fun and interactive manner.

Case Study blends local and foreign ingredients into each cocktail. The beverage program here takes an eco friendly and sustainable approach, reusing and maximising the usage of all ingredients to contribute an extra dimension to the whole experience. For instance, raw materials used for infusions or syrups will be converted into jams, pickles, dusts, and dehydrated garnishes to contribute more to the cocktails.

LIMITED RELEASE: Four Pillars bring the spirit of Christmas

Four Pillars are in the spirit of Christmas with a very limited Australian Christmas Gin release. Australian Christmas Gin is aged in sherry barrels and finished with a dash of Rutherglen Muscat. The product is a tribute to distiller Cameron Mackenzie’s mum Wilma, who would make puddings on Victoria Derby Day while the family watched the races. A couple of years ago Mackenzie distilled some Christmas puddings, putting them in the botanical basket of Wilma (one of Four Pillars’ stills) and distilled them with a base of juniper, cinnamon, star anise, coriander and angelica over the top, with a dash of Rutherglen Muscat to add richness. The result is a gin that smells and tastes like Christmas! Four Pillars Australian Christmas Gin will be available from the distillery door, Four Pillars website as well as select independent retailers.

NEW VENUE: Jacoby’s – Twin Peaks inspired Tiki Bar

Jacoby’s – a small tiki bar named after Dr Jacoby from Twin Peaks, who was a tiki fanatic, is set to open in early 2017 in the inner city suburb of Enmore. Brought to you by the team behind Earl’s Juke Joint and trading until 2am (helping out the hospitality workers), Jacoby’s is influenced by the tiki era of Trader Vic’s, offering up classic tiki drinks with a contemporary approach. Bar snacks will be focused around toasted and Cuban sandwiches, and friends who are chefs may drop by for a guest “Hollywood” shift. And, as per Twin Peaks, there will always be pie and “damn good coffee”. In addition to rum, other spirits will be showcased in tiki drinks, along with an extensive wine list with a concept of “colours of the sunset”. Jacoby’s is a neighbourhood bar that has the feel that it could have existed in the heyday of Tiki.
