A BIG HELLO A huge welcome to everyone exhibiting and attending Offsite Expo 2019. This first showcase event focusing on the world of offsite design, manufacture and delivery is hugely exciting. There has never been a better time to be involved with offsite in all its many facets. As an industry it is flourishing and catching the imaginations of many working across the built environment and pushing the boundaries of building design. This has all been helped by the added push by Government with its ‘presumption in favour’ of offsite and the support of Homes England, in encouraging more offsite methods to bring improvements to the massive housing issues that many people – especially the younger generation – face across the UK. Because of this more architects, designers, engineers – and importantly more clients – are waking up to the benefits of offsite construction. We have lots on offer over the next two days. On the exhibition floor we have the very best the offsite industry can offer with market leaders showcasing the expanding range of offsite technologies, systems and products together with the widest display of new and innovative applications for offsite methods within the built environment. But what really sets Offsite Expo apart from other exhibitions is the added value that visitors can expect. It’s not all about finding the latest technology and business development – it’s about hearing about the latest advances and the future of Offsite Expo Admission Policy & Visitor Information Offsite Expo is strictly a trade event for companies operating within the construction industry. • Only pre-registered visitors, exhibitor badge holders and visitors who register on or before the 24 and 25 September 2019 will be able to access Offsite Expo. • Registration takes place in the main atrium of the Ricoh Arena, Coventry using the self-scan process for efficient and environmentally-friendly badge production and collection. • Seminar places are free of charge and are subject to capacity constraints. • Delegate places will be allocated on a ‘first come first serve’ basis and there will be limited seating room in each seminar

the industry from people whose opinions really matter from across the UK and overseas. You can find out lots more inside this Guide about what to expect across Offsite Expo but our programme of speakers from the UK and across the globe is unsurpassed and the special Masterclass sessions and Offsite Summit promise some of the biggest names in the industry discussing some of the hottest topics. We have worked hard to pull the seminar programme together, drawing an unrivalled collection of high calibre speakers from all four corners of the offsite world into one place. There really is something to motivate and inspire everybody with innovation literally around every corner. There is a real buzz around offsite and the response to this event has been amazing. We are delighted by the support and enthusiasm of those operating within the offsite sector and also the wider construction industry that have got involved. As I tell everyone – offsite is here to stay – and if you’re in any doubt, simply walk the aisles at Offsite Expo: we promise you won’t be disappointed! Many thanks to all our exhibitors and sponsors and have a wonderful and successful show. Julie Williams Director Offsite Expo

LEADERS & INNOVATORS

OFFSITE CONSTRUCTION AWARDS The Offsite Construction Awards have experienced exponential growth and next year’s event is set to be the most prominent yet, with the Awards taking centre stage at Offsite Expo on 22 September 2020 at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. The 2020 Awards will attract over 500 industry leaders and innovators. Many of the sponsorship packages have already been snapped up by savvy companies wanting to take advantage of the opportunity to promote their company and maximise industry exposure. The headline sponsors for next year’s event include EOS, Hadley Group, NHBC and BLP insurance – with only one package remaining for a headline position. It is not only the venue that is changing, two new categories have been announced. The Offsite Construction Awards are expanding to reflect the wider adoption of innovative technology. These new categories include Building Performance Pioneer Award,

LIGHT STEEL FRAME ASSOCIATION

The Light Steel Frame Association (LSFA) has been established to influence legislation, regulation and to support the overall objectives and growth of the steel framing sector. We create greater awareness of the performance and productivity benefits of using offsite steel solutions and support the drive for sustainable construction in the steel industry. In the fiercely competitive world of construction, gaining market share can be tough. The light steel frame sector is more agile, advanced and digitally savvy than its competitors in other offsite material sectors but up until now, the industry has not had a unified voice to promote the levels of sophistication, innovation and technical expertise within the industry.

To encourage a collaborative approach the LSFA operates under a unilateral membership structure, with one standard fee for all manufacturing members to gain access to an extensive package of benefits. Membership benefits for manufacturing members will focus on manufacturing marketing opportunities and profile-raising initiatives designed to increase market share. Members will also benefit from a range of digital marketing and event opportunities, plus access to media packages and discounts to various events throughout the year. We offer: • Members marketing and PR support • Event and networking opportunities including roundtables, conferences and masterclasses • Business referrals and collaboration opportunities focused on increasing market share • Representation at government level for the industry • Cater for internal and external communication • Provide a cohesive representation of the steel framing industry in the UK • Create and grow membership • Equally represent all members • Identify and capture revenue streams • Increase market share through greater awareness and enquiry generation To be part of an organisation that is driving growth and supporting the objectives of the light steel frame industry, come and speak to us on stand F15. STEEL CONSTRUCTION INSTITUTE The Steel Construction Institute (SCI) has been a trusted independent source of information and expertise serving the steel construction industry for over 30 years Fifteen years ago SCI developed the SCI Assessed scheme as a way of providing specifiers with third party assurance that the claims made by manufacturers were credible. The scheme continues to cover a broad range of products, one of its major strengths is the flexibility to cover offerings as diverse as a manufacturer’s engineering methodology to load-span tables for purlins. SCI has also offered manufacturers of light steel framing systems for the residential market NHBC Stage 1 assessment for over 10 years. We review the proprietary details contained in a manufacturer’s system manual, and confirm their alignment with NHBC’s Section 6.10 standard details for structural aspects of a system. In response to industry demands, we have now significantly extended the ‘Stage 1 process’. SCI Product Certification covers broad technical content, including structure, acoustics and fire, plus factory production

control to provide assurance that a certified product is, and does, what it says. The current scope of certification is limited to areas in which SCI is a recognised authority, including: • Cladding and Roofing • External Wall Systems (Infill) • Light Steel Framing Systems • Modular Building Units. For each area we have a separate Technical Scheme Document that defines the scope of what we will assess and how we will assess it. This ensures that different certificates within a family are immediately comparable. Certificates, developed in consultation with a number of warranty providers, offer clear, unambiguous statements about compliance with all relevant requirements and regulations, and follow the Basic Requirements for construction works as set out in the Construction Products Regulation. SCI Product Certification operates under its own rules of governance with its own procedures and training requirements. It is subject to ‘observation’ by an Impartiality Committee to ensure that SCI certification activities are undertaken in an impartial, independent and open manner. CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTIVITY EVENT

TACKLING CONSTRUCTION’S PRODUCTIVITY CONUNDRUM Productivity is an ongoing concern for the construction sector. Whilst productivity in manufacturing sectors has virtually doubled over the last 20 years, construction productivity has stagnated and has not improved since the early 1990s.

The objective of the Construction Productivity Conference, taking place on 21 November 2019 in London, is to gather together those who have the skills to tackle construction’s productivity conundrum and to create a platform for knowledge sharing and networking. With statistics finding that only 64% of the hours worked in construction are deemed productive, the event will focus on new technologies, logistics, supply chains, materials and waste management together with construction culture, developing human resources to establish a workforce and a sector that is fit for the future.

The Construction Productivity Conference will focus on the application of a ‘productive construction factory thinking’ model and change management in the key areas of: Product, Process and People. The conference has been created to inform and support clients, architects, engineers, contractors, government departments, councils, local authorities, local enterprise partnerships and building technology suppliers in finding ways to address and tackle inefficiencies within the construction sector.
