DESIGN LAYOUT

There were a lot of restrictions for this variation, which made it difficult to experiment with the layout. At the same time it was very interesting to see that inspite of the limitations, one can come up with a layout that works well. For this layout design I worked with the principle of balance . There is enough white space which allows the focus to be on the text and also because of this principle the heading can be distinguished from the body text.

RIO DE JANEIRO, PTI: London Games bronze winner Saina Nehwal and two-time World Championship bronze medallist,PV Sindhu made a resounding start to their badminton campaign at the Rio Olympics but it turned out to be dismal day for the Indian doubles players, here on Thursday. Former World No. 1 Saina staved off a spirite challenge from World No.73 Brazilian girl Vicente Lohaynny 21–17, 21–17 in a women’s singles match which lasted 39 minutes at the Riocentro here. The World Championship silver medallist India will next take on World No. 61 Maria Ulitina of Ukraine in a Group G match on August 14.

While experimenting with different variations, I felt that it was much easier to work with the layouts in which there were more restrictions. As the freedom increases, the possibilities also increase which makes it much more tough and interesting at the same time as you can experiment a lot. In this layout the different paragraphs are aligned with each other. The paragraphs are small as well as vertical in nature which makes it easier to read the text.

The variation in the layout is that you can change the type style. While I was working with it, I came to realize that we do not always have to change every element of design in order to create an interesting visual. For this layout even though the size of the text is all the same, just the change in the style of the font plays a vital role in enhancing the visual. The change in font style differentiates between the heading and the body text.

This variation allows the use of different sizes for the text. I feel this is one of the most important elements to create visual interest and also to create in order of the importance of the text. In this layout the headline stands out because of the change in the size of the type as opposed to the size of the font for the body text. The heading is not aligned with the rest of the text , which interacts well with the white space around to create an interesting visual.

In this layout change of type size and style was allowed. I feel both these elements play a vital role in highlighting a particular area of the layout. The meaning of the composition can change altogether if these elements are applied well. I changed the type style for the body text and to highlight few words which I felt were important with italic style of the same typeface. In the layout there is enough white space on the left side of the page allowing the heading and the subheading to stand out.

This variation allows the addition of another typeface. In my first attempt to the layout design I did not give attention to the fact that the layout should be dependent on the change of typeface. I learnt that if we are adding a variation or any element of design, it should be done in such a way that it is a part of the whole composition. In the layout I have used the same typeface for the heading and body text, while the sub heading is with a serif typeface. This in turn enhances the layout.

The layout allows the use of different values of black and white to create visual interest. One can do a lot with just one variation such as this. In the layout design I created visual interest by placing the words very close to each other and thus changing the value of the colour. It is because of the different values of black and white that the heading is legible and interesting to look at.

This composition is based on the principle of designing without the use of grids. Initially I found it very difficult to break free from the grids. All the attempts for the composition were not completely breaking free of the grid. Something I learnt through these compositions was that when one says breaking free from the it does not always have to be in diagonals, even text or images which are placed in that manner can follow the grid. Thus in the composition I tried to avoid placing anything with is placed diagonally and thus formed the composition.

This layout too breaks away from the grid and along with there is use of colour and a graphic element. This composition is well balanced as the background space is equally divided. The colours used in the compositions work well together which creates an interesting visual. I feel the graphic element used works well as it balances out the text which is placed on the extreme right. This was an attempt to break free from the grid without using diagonally placed text.

The layout design involves the use of an image while allowing almost no variation in terms of the font size, style and the typeface used. In the composition, in spite of the same type size, one can differentiate between the heading and the body text because of the amount of white space present around it. The white space creates a balance in the composition as it is equally places. While the body text and the image balance out each other.

The composition involves a variation of allowing the change the type size, while adhering to the same type style. This variation is also very similar to the previous one thus I felt it was challenging to constantly keep in mind not to get monotonous with the layouts. The layout design has a lot of white space on top of the space and that flows to the bottom too. This creates an visual interest.

This composition allows an interesting variation, where the image can be transformed in any manner. The image used creates an interesting visual as it is circular in nature and it has a lot of white space around it. This in turn allows the focus of the viewer to be on the image and along with that on the heading, which is placed right under it. The body text is also separated by the paragraphs which make it easier to read.

The composition is following a no grid structure along with the use of an image. The image is separated into various pieces by using a graphic element. The distortion of the images creates a visual interest and the lines flow into the background which enhances the visuals. SAINA,

This composition also follows the no grid layout but it allows the use of colour and graphic elements to enhance the layout. The block of colours and the way the heading is placed creates an interesting form. The colour block on the black and white image enhances the image and the layout as a whole. The body text which is placed vertically at the right side of the page gives continuity to the composition.

The composition is supposed to communicate a different meaning altogether from the actual article. The original article focuses on highlighting the performance of the Indian players and puts them into limelight. In order to change the message, I have taken a line from the body text which puts the Indian players down. I have given more importance to the venue where the Olympics rather than the original headline, which helps to communicate a different message.
