READINESS

In the influx of internationalization and our University’s struggles to move along with the trend, another innovation awaits us - the implementation of an Outcomes Based Education (OBE) system that is beneficial to the clienteles of our University- us, the students.

The adaptation of Outcomes Based Education in the country started after the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) instructed all Higher Learning Institutions (HEIs) to adopt syllabi to OBE format as stated in CHED Administrative Order (CAO) No. 1 series of 2014. In such case the traditional input-process-output design of it will be modified to input-process-outcomes.

With the implementation OBE, we can be sure that the University will promote high expectations and greater learning for all students. In this context, the teachers will not just arrive to their ideas of planning the learning experiences of their students based on what they want their students to know after the learning experiences, but rather they will be obliged to plan for learning activities and exercises that are focused on what the students will be able to make with their knowledge after the learning experience.

OBE also prepares students for life and work in the 21st Century. This is so because in the past we were contented with knowing how many students enrolled in a program and how many graduated. However, in the OBE, this goes beyond that. Because the reference will not focus on enrolment and graduation alone, but rather on how many pass the licensure examination.

Furthermore, questions will also be raised about how many of the licensed graduates work in careers their school had prepared them for. With this, tracer studies will be conducted by academic

research units to know whether these licensed graduates work in their respective professions and how many succeed in their fields.

And to attain the goals set forth, authentic forms of assessment will be used to really measure what the students can do with their knowledge.

Thus, the traditional pencil paper exam which focus more on the cognitive level of student learning, specifically in remembering which holds very narrow percentage for overall learning will be minimized. In this case, for example, a student will be asked to write to show they know how to used English well, or compute math problems to demonstrate their ability to solve problems.

The adoption of OBE in the education system of Partido State University is one of its great moves in realizing its mantra “Where quality education comes first.” However, the implementers, which in this case are our instructors and professors, must be trained well enough so that the execution will be very smooth.

With this, all must be knowledgeable enough of the transition and all are ready to adapt to the changes, even if it will be for providing rubrics that are highly needed in authentic assessment, for instance. Because we believe that after all the plans were laid out, and after all the blueprints were made for implementation, there will be no more assuring that their readiness to implement OBE in the classrooms of Partido State University.

PSU passes ISO Stage 2 Certification Audit

Two years of rigorous preparation and planning is what it took for Partido State University to finally be recommended for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Certification by TUV SUD PSB Philippines after passing the second and last stage of auditing with flying colors last April 20-23, 2015 with only 13 non-compliance.

Dr. Marita S. Magat, Dean College of Education and Concurrent Director for Planning, explained in an interview that the certification, according to the auditors from TUV SUD PSB Philippines, will be released 45 days after the stage 2 audit.

Furthermore, she clarified that the TUV SUD PSB Philippines will not be the one to grant the certificate. The audit report will be submitted by the lead auditor to the Korean TUV SUD Office for final review.

In Southeast Asia, the Korean office carries out the final assessment and granting of certificate.

In order to pass the stage 2 audit, the average non-compliance is 30-35. Although the University has not yet formally received the ISO certification, Dr. Magat stated that as far as the statistical data is concerned, we could already claim that PSU is an ISO Certified University.

If issued the certification, she added that PSU will soon earn the distinction of being the second SUC in Camarines Sur and 3rd in the Bicol region to receive an ISO certificate. This achievement strengthens its vision to provide quality education and services to its clients. Still, PSU receiving the certification is merely the first step as the bigger challenge lies in the maintenance of the ISO standards.

Dr. Magat said that periodic audits will be conducted every year to gain recertification. This is to evaluate whether the University is able to maintain its Quality

Management System (QMS). The First Surveillance Audit will be held on January 2016.

Furthermore, she stated that the focus of the QMS of ISO is continuous improvement for the satisfaction of the clients who are the students.

Moreover, plans are also being laid out for the Local Area Networking, and at the latter part of 2015, the computerization process wherein students can already view their grades online will also be implemented.

According to her, certain problems may occur that will hinder the University’s quest for recertification in 2016. First is the transition from the outgoing University President, Dr. Nita V. Morallo to the incoming President. “Hopefully, the new president will be an advocate of ISO 9001:2008. Kung hindi, it will surely die down because the main requirement for the success

of the quality management system is top level management support.”

Second would be the budget. She said that if we want reform and improvement, then we need the budget.

The process for certification started in 2012 when the University administration rolled out plans to vie for ISO Certification.

On August 9, 2013, Dr. Nita V. Morallo signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Engr.

Helen Alian- Evalle, General Manager, HAE consultancy and Training Center to help the University in its preparation for the said accreditation.

The ISO certification is a testament that the quality of the university’s processes and standards are at par with international management systems.

Also, academic and support services are maintained through quality assurance methods.

Radiance retains limelight in Regional, Luzonwide Confab Radiance, the Official Student Publication of Partido State University, once again retained its competitiveness as they won awards in various categories during the 15th Regional Tertiary Schools Press Conference (RTSPC) held at University of Saint Anthony, Iriga City, January 7-10,2015.

For group category, Radiance magazine was awarded Second Best Magazine of the year among the 28 student publications from different Colleges and Universities in the Bicol region and bagged the following awards: 1st- Best DevComm Page; 2nd- Best Opinion/Column Page; Best Feature Page; Best Page Design; Best Cover Page; 4th- Best Sports Page and 5th- Best News Page.

Student Teachers Congress 2015: CoEd slams back-to-back victory

From the laborious deliberation of portfolios which include proof of experiential learning such as field study activity sheets, certificate of participation to seminars, workshops, conventions, fora, certificate of recognition as winners in contests and searches, panel interview and demo teaching, Ms. Reya Teresa M. Bayaca grabbed the top spot in the BEEd level while Rey B. Cornel took the 2nd place in the BSEd level in this years’ Ten Outstanding Student Teachers of Bicol (TOST).

The College of Education Sayawit team also contributed a lot to the victory as their inspiring performance suited the theme of Sayawit, “Pagtukdo sarong Balaog Asin Pangaturugan.” The team won the heart of the crowd with sustained cheers, and was declared champion among the nine contingents from the different HEI’s in the region.

The winning coaches of the COEd Sayawit team were Mr. Wendell Formalejo, Ms. Naomi Nydia Abante. Mr. Formalejo was also the mentor of Cornel and Bayaca to the TOST together with the help of Mr. Kemuel Joseph Buitizon, last year’s first placer to TOST and now a COEd faculty.

On Guts, Enthusiasm And Willpower

Michael P. Vale

Whenever the term student leadership is said, we always think that they were the students who are excelling academically and are holding positions in the organizations inside the University. This traditional idea which we may have in mind discourages us to participate and get involved even if we know in ourselves that we have the capability to do what these people are doing. And by capabilities, I mean having bigger ideas and motivations that are aimed for the betterment of our University and the outside community.

It saddened me however to know that several of us had been drowned by apathy. I even happened to talk with one student telling me that the student publication is for the students who are intelligent and are Dean’s Lister or President’s Lister. This idea is so unacceptable.

Being a student leader is not just about the wit because in the very first place it is not a requisite.

Being a student leader is about the guts, enthusiasm and the willpower of transcending from an ordinary student to an extraordinary student

who can be a good example to others and who is willing to help without any expected return.

In our University on the other hand, we can see students who hold positions simply because they were chosen by those who believe they can because they are intelligent-beings, but the truth is they really cannot.

This unready state of them to hold positions leaves our organizations to produce projects that are confined only to the four walls of our University. Everybody settles to seminars, workshops, clean-up drives, echo seminars and again more seminars which do not really provide any impact at all. These are obsolete projects because the trend now is to make life changing endeavors for community development. I even remember the Dean of student Affairs, Dr. Gemmah T. Barcillano speaking in one of her meetings with the student organizations that “We must try to extend to the outside communities now because we are a University and that is expected from us. We must

try to do away with projects that are beneficial only to us because it only involves us.”

From her statement, it is too obvious that she wanted us and our organizations to venture with new ideas and try to immerse more to the communities outside our University who are in dire need of our help. But we can’t do that if our leaders who are holding the positions in our organizations don’t have the guts, the enthusiasm and the willpower to do so.

Now, that the year ends and the start of another academic year would mean having our organizations’ new set of officers, a great challenge awaits us. It is the challenge to choose the one who can lead our organizations to a more impact oriented state. Well at least we must know who really has the guts, the enthusiasm and willpower to do so.

In this current time, where the right to education can be afforded even by those who are not economically stable, being a college student is more than having good grades and achieving academic excellence. More than that is our right to enjoy the quality education that is equal to what we have paid for.

For the past years, our institution has undergone a lot of changes which accordingly for the benefit of the entire PSU community. However, some changes are starting to become a burden to the students.

News came to our office about the different increase on miscellaneous fees beyond the knowledge of the entire student body of our University. Roxanne Cea, former Secretary-General of the Federation of Student Councils said there is an staggered increase for computer laboratory fee from Php 100.00 to Php 250.00 in A/Y 2015-2016 and Php 350.00 in A/Y 2016-2017.

Despite Student Councils’ strong disagreement with this increase, the administration pushed the said proposal saying that the former amount could not suffice to procure new computer set. And other miscellaneous fees are set to increase in the next academic year.

Perhaps the administration has assumed that parents of the students could still pay for this, which is true because they have no choice, else they have to transfer to other institution which would be more costly.

Because of this, there will be an existing potential that this University will become less accessible to the youth. Even if there is a consistent increase on enrollees every start of school year; an abrupt shrinkage occurs at the second semester.

It is undeniable that the budget allocated by the government for our University is very minimal. So, in order to replenish the insufficiency in the budget, students shall now pay higher fees which I believe is for

the improvement of the University. Isn’t the burden on the budget deficiency passed on us?

The administration admits that the university, including other campuses, really lacked the facilities that would harness on every student’s learning to rise some more. But years have gone and still the issue remains the same. How the budget is being spent must be clear for the people who paid for it in the first place especially that this unexpected increase on different school fees will be a pain in the parents’ pocket as they weren’t even informed ahead of the increase.

Considering this increase, it should have been made sure that the proposal was scrutinized with student opinion, see the impact on the perspective of the students at the starting point and not just in the possible outcome it may serve for the University. Proposals must meet halfway between the welfare of the students and the University. Therefore, we should have a stronger student representation that would put their feet on their constituents’ shoes to come up with better decisions and projects in the future.

It may be true that studying in college is a privilege, however, college by all means, should maximize fair opportunities for the youth to afford this kind of privilege that is supposed to be guaranteed to everyone.

There’s nothing wrong in voicing ones opinion as long as its purpose stands for the welfare of the students.

Life itself is an unending battle after all. Dissension or Indifference, you choose.

Weighing Scale THRESHOLD

It is indeed true that there is always a battle between Internet and Books in a student’s mind.

We, students, find it easy to just eyeball with the screen, and click to answer queries, and browse for information. However, using the internet as our reference will always invite us to visit our social accounts and have more time to interact with it than to study.

Student’s performance is highly dependent on his learning ability and attitude towards studies.

The latter is often influenced by different factors and one of these involves the use of internet. We termed it entertainment, pastime, and even hobby but if not controlled, this practice eats our time for study.

Google and Wikipedia which we often use for research are more popular websites, but if we can observe, the adjacent tabs of these websites is either Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram which lead us to shift every now and then. Nothing is wrong doing it, but what makes it normally wrong is the mismanagement of usage.

In addition, we also tend to disregard books which should be made part of our life as students.

We buy them, but we find it hard to even flick a page and acquaint with it; it is evident that the University Library becomes crowded with students only during examinations and signing of clearance. We have notebooks but how many of us write down notes or make summaries of of our lessons before going to class.

Instead, we prefer printed and photocopied references which sometimes turn to unused piles of paper. These are some of the challenge that this generation has to overcome or else these practices would impair our attitude towards our studies.

To do this, we need to deal with the force of what we call ‘equilibrium’ which means balance and stability. This will surely result to a good study habit among us, students. We can divide our time, adjust our daily routine, and give a good space for studying that will lead to a better feat; and we can also have time to meet the library and befriend with books (they are truly friendly). Of course we can use internet for research, it can provide numerous data to boost our knowledge, but there should always be a border to remind us of what equilibrium is.

We are allowed to use of internet and explore the different social media, we can never escape with that because our world is already in state-of-the-art, and our daily lives would be incomplete without them.

Since we can no longer control the use of social media, we should make it more useful than doomed.

It is not, therefore adverse to access this socalled ‘Internet’ provided that we can level these two ‘S’: Studies and Social Network.

Health at Risk? risks and returns

The University Clinic is a vital part of our institution which provides medical and dental services to its clients – the students. The Clinic also serves to be the best resort when emergencies occur.

However, many students have often complained about the unavailability of its services. I have encountered such unavailability personally. Here is what happened:

We were having our afternoon class last February 20, 2015 when suddenly one of our classmates experienced breathing difficulties. Her seatmates had to interrupt the instructor to tell the problem. Aside from breathing, she also had a hard time moving her legs and feet. She just couldn’t move at all. Hoping to find remedy, we sent her immediately to the University clinic.

Few minutes have passed, the instructor asked one of our classmates to check whether she was properly attended to.

Our classmate came back saying, “wala pa raw po ‘yong nurse” (the nurse had still not arrived).

to go home instead of going to the clinic when they’re sick because they would always think the clinic has no medicine.

And to spice it up, some confessed that they don’t want to go there because they are afraid of the staff.

As I wrote this column, I was hoping the Clinic would consider these issues. I know they have a better explanation on this. Nevertheless, I don’t intend to merely bring these issues out nor do I intend to offend the entire staff because I know they are also trying their best to accomplish the tasks entrusted to them.

First things first: the unavailability of services. Not all the time the staff would be available and I think every student in the campus should also consider this. As I’ve learned, they also have to attend to other activities they deemed necessary.

However, it would be better to have at least one person to stay at the clinic in case of emergencies (student assistant, if there is) and/or leave their phone numbers to be contacted. Also, I believe the students don’t only refer to “unavailability” as simply the staff ’s absence. Most students would say they don’t feel that there really is a clinic. That is, the clinic is almost nonexistent because they haven’t availed any medical/dental services. I say, this is not entirely the clinic’s fault. The students should somehow visit the clinic for medical check-up or even any dental services. The clinic, on the other hand, may also conduct activities or initiate schedules for check-ups announced to the students.

student populace. However, every student in the campus pays P50 for the medical/ dental fee. If we would multiply such amount to the number of enrolees in the campus that is sure a lot of money to consider; high enough to buy the necessary medicines to be used by those who need them at the moment.

Lastly, the students are afraid of the staff. I think they should be more afraid if the staff doesn’t care about them, at all. As for the staff, they should probably try to be more approachable because part of their job is to assess the physical condition of the students and not to add up any tension. After all, the clinic is as important as the guidance office or any other offices in the university.

I have the utmost respect to the entire staff of the clinic and I appreciate their side as the arms and legs of our health and safety. But, full respect is not earned by mere presence; it is earned by effort. May the clinic give attention to this clamour and I hope their services will be better as an effort to up the ante, to improve the system of their service.

The students should also change their view against the clinic since not at all times the staff should be relied upon, nor should their attitude be criticized harshly.

The students should also consider the side of the clinic before jumping into any conclusion; making sure if the gossips are true before believing them.

I also understand that we are in a public school and the facilities may not be as sufficing as they should, but if the quality of education has already been levelled up through ISO certification, shouldn’t the quality of service be improved, too?

Ay aba ana, baka mapudpod ang sakuyang bitis, na dae ko pa palan napapalasan, sagyad na lamang ang mga kukong sing ati kang sakuyang isip.

Pero sabi ninda, sinda ang bahala, papautangon na lang daa ako. Mayo, masiram talaga sa pagmati mag para kawat kauni.

Sigeng vibrate kang cellphone ko, kaya ginadan ko baga, istorbo sana.

hile over hundreds of “Goa-eño” collegians are currently battling their way towards a spot in the white-collar profession industry, a smaller group of young agriculture-enthusiasts are engaged in a participatory battle to alleviate the country from poverty and to ensure food security. This is through the Department of Agriculture’s flagship program for the development of potential youth leaders in advancing agriculture growth. The Agriculture Office of the Local Government unit of Goa takes the lead in implementing this program with several of Goa’s youth sector as its active partners in pursuit of its development objectives.

Challenge

The country’s agriculture sector is made up of 4 sub-sectors: farming, livestock and forestry with the latter two comprising the smallest percent.

Together, this employs about 40 percent of the labor force and contribute about one-fourth of GDP. Our country exports agricultural products around the world such as US and Japan. Some of the most pressing concerns regarding agriculture are the conversion agricultural land, farmer’s reliance on chemical-based fertilizers and low funding of critical agri-programs. But the real challenge is engaging youth IN AGRICULTURE. With the rapid urbanization causing the decline in rural populations, the number of young farmers is also in decline. The idea of farming nowadays is still considered a noble profession but not a practical one. And practicality is a key component for survival in the new era. Technological advancements triggered the decline in interest in taking agriculture as a career. The need for youth’s reconnection with agriculture brought new development agendas.

t’s been 25 years since our graduation in high school. But it’s my first time to attend the reunion of our batch this year. As I stepped through the entrance of the school where I once had my biggest and lousy dreams, I started to remember all the trickery and humbug I did during my teenage life. I could still feel the rush of running home during afternoon to watch my favorite “telenovela,” and the hatred and cursing to my nerdy classmate when we went home late because of her. I remember sitting under the Narra tree while cutting classes and coming up with a brilliant explanation when the teacher caught me. Really, whatever happened during my classes?

I wasn’t really the study type, but I’m sure I’m the most nerdy when examination comes.I wasn’t the noticeable type either or even the “favored one” by any teacher. Being poor, I felt that I should be “segregated” properly from the rest of the crowd. I learned to be socially independent.

“Look who decided to show up. I hadn’t seen you since the commencement, Jonathan” said a familiar proud voice behind me. I turned to see that it’s Rio, the son-of-a-rich-dad classmate who used to bully me.

He was an honor student when we graduated. “Have you finally saved enough money to join the gathering?” he sarcastically asked.

I bowed my head in shame. After all, that’s the usual reason I told them why I never joined the previous times. Not the bullying, alright. I could always cope with that. It’s the money thing. Reunions in private schools are often a big-ticket. “You hadn’t changed at all, Rio. Still the old sarcasm... I... I can see your Americana coat really suits you. You must be a highly-paid employee by now,” I told him.

“Yeah, I know it’s pretty obvious. I am now the Chief Executive Officer of WTFM Financial, Inc., which by the way earns more than $3 million a month. Can you imagine? It’ll surely cost more than your lifetime work for your petty salary or if you ever have a job, at all.” He laughed proudly. That I couldn’t argue. Probably most of my batchmates here have already had big names. I know I don’t deserve to continue this conversation with him. Nevertheless, he must have seen my embarrassment because before I could leave, he just walked away smugly.

I’m starting to regret why I still came. There will surely be bragging and self-praising. (What should I expect?) Plus we have this formal attire crap on the first evening of the reunion. My “highly depreciated” slacks are clearly out of place.

“It’s a starry night,” I told myself. “It’s a perfect time for a party on an open ground.” I’m starting to hear some jazz music. Lights are randomly showing.

As I looked around, I’ve noticed two peculiarly-dressed ladies sitting on a bench. One’s blonde, the other’s with a short black hair.

“Jonathan!” The two ladies shouted monotonously when they saw me coming their way.

The one with short hair stood first and hugged me as I came near. “Hey,” she said, “I haven’t seen you in years.”

“Hi, Claire. I thought you didn’t like a short hair?”

“People change; so do their preferences,” she replied, smirking with satisfaction.

I turned to the other lady standing on a one-leg stance, with her pink pouch bag on her arm. “Bella? Is that really you?” She tilted her head and smiled in approval.

“Wow. You’re looking very... well, girly. You used to rock.”

“I still do,” she grinned and winked.

Before I could respond, three guys came towards us. One shouted to catch our attention.

“Tallyho! The ‘bourgeois’ best friends are here.

Oh, right. I know what to call you now, guys. The minimum-wagers! Ha-ha.” The other men laughed with him. Bella just rolled her eyes. Claire remained calm and just looked away.

“Hello, Simon. I heard you now own the SOB Corporation. Congratulations. It must have been a great success on your part,” I said to flatter him.

He smirked. He’s eated into the trap. “Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. It is a subsidiary company of SYMB Holdings, Inc. but the company’s still under my power; however, not fully controlled by me.”

Another brilliant fool. I smiled courageously.

He must have realized his mistake because he winced abruptly and lowered his head. Oh, how honor is so hard to achieve but easy to get lost.“Very well. Off we go for now,” I bid. “Jackson. Garry.” I greeted to the other two. Both of these guys, as I’ve heard, are highranking employees of Simon’s company. We began to leave their group.

“Wait,” Garry interrupted. “I wanna ask you something, Jonathan.”

While I was at my back, I swiftly rolled my eyes as if telling myself, “Here we go again.” I turned back and faced him. “What is it, Garry?”

“How much money do you make every month?” he said with a huge grimace.

I considered a thought, and then answered shyly, “I only make P20, 000 a month.” The three guys laughed loudly. Jackson reacted, “Can you believe that?

He only makes 20! It’s not even half of my insurance.”

Then I left them laughing and cursing.

“They certainly have no idea.” I said to Claire and Bella who were both smiling, knowing the truth about me. They know pretty well that I now own 15 companies, some of which are situated here in the Philippines, including WTFM Financial, Inc., a private high-profiting corporation, and SYMB Holdings, Inc., which is a parent company of 5 secretly high-grossing corporations in the country. Some are operating abroad. Frankly, I don’t really make any money through work. I let money work for me. I just realized by now that those guys are actually employed in my companies.

“Aren’t you gonna tell them? I mean, look at them. They’re far too happy for what they thought they knew,” Claire suddenly asked.

“Let them be. I mean, who cares about the truth? Everyone is more eager to believe the lies.” I said, and then I winked to both of them.“So, how’s your business in London, Claire? Last time we chatted online, you and your filthy rich partners were planning to widen your business internationally.”

“Yeah. Just trying to do something new.”

“Still the old nerd, I guess?”

“Stop it,” she said as she poked me in the arm.

“How ‘bout you, Bella?Any news from the capitalistic States?”

“Oh, States is growing on me. I owned most of the Casinos and I’d be willing to try the other industries.”

“You, guys, really are a sick sadist in business,” I told them scornfully.

“You weren’t really short on money,” Bella suddenly disclosed, while looking at me in suspicion.“You were short on time, that’s why you never attended any homecoming. Now that you’re financially secured, you decided to show up. Let me guess, you’re planning to retire early, aren’t you?” she continued. I only nodded.

“There’s only one thing, though, that’s never changed in you. Just look at his suit, Claire. He’s really cheap,” she said wryly.

“I don’t even own any money,” I replied in a tone of confidence and we all laughed like the old times; grinning with knowing glances.

Chapter I Off With His Head

‘If you truly love me, on a rainy night before our wedding at exactly 12:00 midnight… behead yourself. Place it in a jar drenched in your own blood and tears.’

The woman’s words echoed throughout his head like a broken record and a song playing on repeat. He could not believe how he could agree to such terms! Was this truly love for the woman he was about to marry? This man was already in his wedding tuxedo. 20 minutes before 12:00 that’s what the old grandfathers’ clock shows in the room he was in. The jar already filled with what the girl wanted; all was left was his head. As time flew by, the clock stroke 12 and then it was time. With a lift of his hand and the butcher’s knife in hold… CHOP! The sound of the now blood stained knife clattered to the floor.

The sound of the rain echoed throughout the empty Victorian house that evening. However, the house wasn’t completely empty. There was one girl huddled up in a corner of her room near the window as she watched the rain pour down. Her hazel brown eyes stared blankly as she waited. Waited for whom you ask? She, herself didn’t know either. Why she does not know? Well, it was hard to explain. Tucking a strand of chocolate brown hair behind her ear, she slowly closed her eyes then reopened them. “Here I am.” A voice sounded out to her in a whisper. The girl turned around, a smile slowly formed on her face. Standing up from her place, she strides toward the other life form in the room and stopped a few inches in front of him. The male held up a jar in front of the girl, which made the girls smile widen. What was in the jar you ask? The head of her fiancée, the man who was standing right in front of the woman. Right before her very eyes.

Chapter II The Beheaded Husband

The thunder suddenly crashed, lighting the whole room of the brunette bride. You could have seen her fiancée holding the jar without a head. His tuxedo stained by the neckline from the crimson red blood; his flesh fully revealed. The female took the jar into her own hold and placed a kiss on the glass, where his head floated a drift, bobbing up and down. The head was wide-eyed, forcing a smile upon his face. The girl looked at the beheaded figure and smiled. “I cannot wait to walk down the aisle later today.” She said as she held the blood stained hand of the male. “You want me to walk down the aisle, like this?” He sounded both surprised and horrified. It was quite disturbing of how one could hear the man’s voice even without his head. The girl nodded and kissed the jar as if she was kissing her fiancée and replied, “Yes. I want everyone to know how much you truly love me even without your head.”

Even without his head, you could sense the beheaded body tense from what the woman had said.

What would everyone say when they see her husband in such a horrifying state!? And most of all... ALIVE. It was already 3AM and the wedding was in 4 hours. “My dear, you need to rest. The wedding will be in 4 hours.” He calmly stated through a shaky voice. The woman agreed.

“Yes. You are right. However, I ask of only a simple favor.

Would you please sleep with me?” Once again, his body tensed, but let out a sigh and crawled into bed with his soon-to-be-wife. “Good night, Daniel.” She whispered out, placing a hand on his clothed chest and a kiss to where his heart was. Daniel wrapped his arm around the girl, the pillows now stained with blood. One could sense a smile emitting from him. “Good night, my dear Anastasia.” He whispered in return. However, something did not feel quite right. As if, someone or something was watching them from afar.

Chapter III The Day of the Wedding I

Everyone was ready for the wedding. The reception beautifully decorated with the theme color blood red. From the balloons, the gowns, the roses and every other thing presented. The church was elegantly enormous in size. The ceilings were stained glass windows, designed with the imaginary outlook of the heavens above. Complete with the angels, saints and Jesus Christ himself. However, there was one slight

problem. While everyone positioned at their respective places, the bride and the groom were nowhere to be found. The wedding should’ve started minutes ago at exactly 7:00am. The present time was now … 7:45am.

From the far side of the room, the bride and groom’s parents stood by the altar. One of them was tapping their foot impatiently on the red carpet below her. “Lady Juliette!” A man yelled out in a polite manner, jogging towards the woman.

So said woman turned around as soon as she stopped the tapping of her heel. “Frederick. What is taking so long for the wedding to start?” She whispered out. Gasping for his needs of oxygen, he stood up erect and fixed his black bow tie, clearing his voice passage.

“Your daughter, Anastasia, is nowhere to be found, my lady.” He politely replied. Her hazel eyes widened astoundingly. “Excuse me?” She questioned in shock.

“It is true, Lady Juliette.” Lady Juliette could not believe such. Her head turned to the groom’s guardians. The expressions on their faces held curiosity about what was going on.. Lady Juliette then noted something and turned to her butler, Frederick. “And where is Daniel?

The groom?” Frederick looked over the woman’s shoulder to see the boy missing as well. “I-I have no idea, my lady.” He stammered out in reply. Lady Juliette was now furious at the situation that had occurred.

Chapter IV The Day of the Wedding II

Lady Juliette walked halfway down the hall and stopped, turning a man around to face her as he talked to one of the butlers. “Honey, if you can clearly see, I am busy talking to Matthias at the moment.” He stated out, quite annoyed to his wife’s actions. Lady Juliette raised one perfect eyebrow with a sarcastic ‘Oh really?’ look on her face. “George, we have much more important matters at the moment than this alone.” She spat out between slightly gritted teeth. George, the Lady’s husband, turned around to Matthias, dismissing him. “I’m listening.” Lady Juliette looked around before she spoke. “Our daughter is missing. It has almost been an hour and she still has not shown herself. Do you have any idea where she is!?”

George was quite surprised with the news. Running his hands through his almost grayish, copper colored hair, he let out deep sigh. “This cannot be happening. Not at a time like this. I-I haven’t even noticed…” He admitted.

The Lady rolled her eyes at her husband’s simpleton moment.

Now, just when Lady Juliette was about to blow her fuse and rush out of the holy building, the doors suddenly flew open. Everyone’s heads turned, shielding their eyes from the brightness of outsides’ sunrays. From the visible silhouettes, the shadow of a gown formed. Everyone sighed in relief and began to chatter happily now that the bride had finally arrived. However, a bloody scream of murder came from one of the woman in the room. As soon as everyone’s eyes adjusted to the light, there stood the bride with a headless groom by her side. His head, clear in the jar with a forced wide-eyed smile plastered upon his face as the night before. Woman fainted; children cried and men ran away from the hideous horrifying being. This wasn’t the wedding they prepared it to be.

Chapter V They Have Arrived

George quickly caught Lady Juliette as she had fainted into her arms after a minute of screaming her lungs out. Anastasia was smiling brightly directly towards her father with her bouquet of roses in hand. George had broken out into a cold sweat as she watched the couple walked towards them, a cold shiver running down his spine as he watched. His brown orbs glued to the jar that the beheaded monster was holding. “D-Daniel?” He whispered out in a hushed gasp. “Good morning father!” She chimed out in a cheery manner. Her father forced a smile onto his face and held his wife closer to his frame. “What happened to mother!?” George gulped down hard. Was his daughter not aware of all of this?

The older man cleared his throat and straightened up. His eyes would glance every now at the jar. “S-She… She fell asleep.” A lame excuse it was but his daughter seemed to believe it. “Aww… Is that so? Mother is going to miss the wedding then if she continues to sleep.” Everyone in the room had vanished either hiding behind furniture or just left the room without a trace. He had the feeling of wanting to flee, too but he knew how much of a psychopath his daughter was and now this had happened. He should’ve warned the poor Daniel from the very start but the doctors said his daughter has fully recovered from her… illness.

Spring.

Earphones in. Music on. A book in her hand. Some would not even be able to read and listen to music at the same time but Phoebe had the ability to do such. Phoebe Spiring. 18. A brunette with a unique pair of turquoise green eyes was concentrated on what she was doing. It was Friday. School had ended weeks ago. However, she didn’t have anything else to do. All of her friends either went on trips out of the city, out of the country or just weren’t where she was right now. Her twin brother joined his own friends on a trip to who knows where and she was left with her mother at home. However, even her own mother said that she should get out some and that she did. She went to the library. She was supposed to be working at a local Cafe downtown but they gave her a day off. What fun.

A sigh escaped her pink lips. The chair she sat in quietly scraped across the flooring of the library and stood up.

She placed the book back upon the shelf of where she had it from and decided to get back to it the next time she visits. She hoped that no one would find its hiding spot. It was her favorite book. She would borrow it but she had borrowed it for a million times. She even had a copy at home. Why bother? She didn’t know.

‘Promise?’

Phoebe made her way outside and onto the sidewalk. ‘I guess I’ll just walk around.’ Her face was neutral. Not the bubbly person everyone knew. She just wasn’t in the mood. It was all because her childhood friend left. The thought of him made her pout her lips again and stuff her hands deeper into the pockets of her jeans. Did he hate her? She didn’t think so. They have fought on rare occasions but never to the point that they would hate each other.

She found herself ending up at the cafe she worked at the decided to drop by and order something. Just to clear her thoughts. It’s been five years. He hasn’t called and when she would the line would be dead. He must’ve changed numbers. That’s what she always thought. ‘... I promise.’

“Welcome! Oh. Phoebe? What are you doing here? Isn’t it your day off?” A blonde-haired female said as she watched her sat down at the counter. “Yeah. I just decided to stop by. I’ll have the usual, Eloise.” She said with a soft smile, her eyes brightening up the slightest bit. Eloise nodded her head wearily. She could tell that there was something wrong with her. Thus, she went back to get her order. It was going to be a long day.

With his wit and skill in storytelling , Kenneth Paul A. Rosero, Bachelor of Secondary Education student major in English of Partido State University, emerged as champion in the National Story Telling Competition held at Mindanao State University of Science and Technology (MSUST), Cagayan De Oro City as part of the 6th Literary and Cultural Festival last December 10-12, 2014.

Among the 13 participants, Rosero stood as the best as he completed his piece with outstanding and almost perfect performance.

The 6th Literary and Cultural Festival 2014 was sponsored by the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges. Rosero’s winning coaches were Mrs. Aida P. Celon, and Mrs. Lani C. Peteza, director of PSU Culture and Arts. M.P.Vale

JFinEx to carry on its winning tradition 12 consecutive years Outstanding Org

The Junior Finance Executives (JFinEx) retained its throne as the Outstanding Student Organization, awarded last March 6, 2015. This is the 12th year that the organization holds such title.

“It was merely an award. But, the effort that each of the officers, volunteers, advisers, and members did to retain the title makes it worth the award,” says Kay Angela Geonzon, concurrent president of the organization.

Ms. Jane Dahpne Gabutan, one of the three advisers of JFinEx, says the organization really works hard for it.

According to her, JFinEx is doing all the extension services and programs that will benefit not just the organization itself but most importantly, the community. This made

them clench the top spot. She says it brings so much pride to be with an award-winning organization.

“The impact of such programs/activities to the beneficiaries is the real prize; the recognition is just a bonus. I hope the members will be more active. They should participate and cooperate. Be a catalyst of change,” she added.

She furthered that it is now up to the next set of officers (and even members) to continue the legacy, or make a new one. Aside from Ms. Gabutan, the organization is moderated by Mr. Calyd Cerio and Ms. Stephanie Joy Fabricante.

Joined by the faculty and staff of the entire university, including the officers of Federation of Student Council, the party opened with the entrance of the faculty and staff in their Hawaiian attire while doing some Hawaiian dance steps. This was followed by the grand entrance of the President with her husband, children and grandchildren.

In her message, the President said she was surprised to have such a grand occasion. She was expecting to have a simple party together with her guests. But since this will be her last birthday celebration with the entire university, the organizers made sure that it would be a memorable one.

“I was informed that there will be a party, but I did not expect that it would be that lavish,” she said.

She mentioned there were a lot of people outside the university who were invited on that day.

Marking a Legacy

Nearing the exit as the president of the university, she would have chosen to relax and leave everything to her subordinates or to the vice-president. In her case, she was planning to do so; but according to her, she just couldn’t.

“I feel that if I do it, I wouldn’t be leaving ‘justice’ to what I have promised the Board, that I would prepare the University until the last day of my term,” she indicated.

In the interview, she said that the last thing that she will be leaving to the university is the ISO. Passing the first stage, the certification from the International Organization for Standardization will undergo its last stage on April 22-23.

“It will be the greatest legacy that I could give to the university,” she added.

I exist because someone crafted me, and these words I tightly embrace might help you ponder that for every crisis, there is a way out.

Whether you like it or not, you need to do business with school stuffs, meaning, you have to get along with ‘College Life’. And it entails also that you need to bite the bullet.

Problem #1: Zero Balance

Have you ever seen your wallet crying because it was desperately hungry? Have you fed it but after a minute or more, it starves again?

Top Causes: Photocopies, Computer shop, Printing, Load, Date, and Foodstuff.

Operation: There is always a battle between what you

want and what you need, and in this case, prioritize the things that you need.

You are not always mandated to photocopy the whole textbook as your reviewer; you can make a summary and highlight only the important things. (TAKE NOTE: SUMMARIZE, you are not going to copy the whole book, so have with you your extra effort, patience, and hard work.)

But it doesn’t mean that you are not going to cross your

way with a photocopy machine anymore, there are instances that we need them.

Whenever you are awarded with endless homework, you can use the library to browse for an answer; do not always lean on internet unless you are not satisfied with the answers you’ve gathered from books. And if you really need to surf the internet for your assignment, see to it that the first web address you are going to is not FACEBOOK, or TWITTER. Maybe after accomplishing your assignment, you can glance through your account.

Unlimited text, call, internet; if you have money, you can have lots of unlimited but we should learn that there is a word ‘limit’ in it. It is indeed undeniable that we need to send messages, whether it is a group or personal message, but maybe, if you really don’t need to, save your money for more significant purposes.

Conclusion: It is your money, not mine. You

can do whatever you want with it, but this is just a suggestion, if you do not want to own a fissured wallet, then, allocate your money for good. You can save if you have extra, believe me, you’ll need it someday.

Problem#2: TIME-OUT

Being late becomes already a routine not a problem. Being late at waking up, and being late with school requirements.

Top Causes: Television, Movie marathon, Overnight/Sleepover, etc.

Operation:You hate your alarm clock or your

phone waking you up. You hate to hear those earsplitting voices of your mom/dad/sister/brother/ boardmate when you are in the middle of your wonderful dream. The top-causes enumerated above are some of the reasons why. You can watch a television show (but not for the whole night), you can of course watch a movie of your choice and if it is a series, save the next episode for the other day.

You can go on a sleepover but be sure to sleep and not have a ‘story-telling sleepover’. This is the thing, you need a good sleep because it conditions your mind. Ergo, you can have a good wake up if you had a good sleep.

You can see yourself walking so hastily, back and forth. You are rushing with projects that were given early but will be submitted late. Why? Because you spent too much time ignoring it the first time it was given, and when you needed to submit it, you’ll suddenly say: “Oh no I remember!

Tomorrow is the deadline, I need to do this!”, You need a good time-table for that. Easy, manage your time. You can make them in a relax way, and in that way, you can make your project better. But if your ideas for the projects are better in a rush way, then be it; but if not, then don’t rush.

Conclusion: It’s your time, and not mine. You have it in your hands, so you can manipulate it. But I suggest you need not just manipulate your time, it is better managed.

Problem#3: LazyBones Your mind and your body do not usually work together. Your mind shouts at you to study, and your body whispers: “My hands can’t open the notebook, my legs can’t walk to the library, and my eyes can’t study”.

Operation: Think of it, we are sent to school

to study. I know there are instances that it is tiring, and depressing, and it drowns you to a force per unit area (Stress). But, we need not to be entirely serious about it, because I believe learning is fun. And we can learn at school. And at school, we need to study.

Imagine, we started our childhood, our adolescence, and our teenage years at school. We are spending a lot of time preparing for our future. But we sometimes forget that. Hence, we are really destined to face the word “STUDY”.

How to fight with your laziness? The answer is not this paper, it is in you.

Conclusion: Study not for grades but for life.

The only way to survive college is not to try surviving it, but to do something to survive.

Because this paper believes what John Green said: “There is no try, there is only do”.

Nasambit niya sa sadiri niya, “Herak man ni Pading Jose.

Pinalayas na ngani siya sa dati niyang harong. Nawaraan na ning kamot. Mapapahali na naman siya sa kinakamugtakan niya. Hay. Pano na daw an.”

Dangan man naglakaw-lakaw siya paduman ki Jose. Naagihan niya si Maria. May kaiba palan siya na nagayo man pangadyi. Dai niya aram kung ataman niya ito o loyalista niya.

Tuninong na. Mayo na si Andres nadadangog na mga talapang o kaya tawong nangangadyi. Uto palan nasa likudan niya na si Maria.

Maria: “Pading Andres, pakahiling ko saimo.

Kumusta na ang buhay mo? Ayos pa man ang paglalandscape mo?”

Andres: “Ay maray man madi an buhay ko.

Kaso mangurol na ang sakong omal kaya dai na ako nakakalandscape. Hadaw ta nahapot mo?”

M: “Ah. Ipapahirahay ko kuta na ang palibot kang sakong swimming pool. Hil’nga ni ho ta ong ati na baga saka dai na kinaya kang mga ataman ko na mag-istar dyan. Nagralayas baga sinda.”

A: “Pasensya madi, kun nagsabi ka kuta tulos di na landscape ko na kuta ang gilid kang pool mo. Aram mo na palan su balita ki Jose?”

J: “Mahal kaya ang bayad padi. Dai ko kaya. Pabayae na padi. Iba naman ata ang prayoriti ninda padi.

Maabot man ang panahon na magigirumduman ninda ako.”

Love is universal, affection is relative, and fetish is inimitable. That may be the reason why we people, even if borne to admiring others differs on the manner how we are attracted to them.

In an informal survey I conducted personally over the different group of women inside the university, I was able to consolidate their responses into a choice, not choice mechanism.

I am not saying that I was able to ask every girl in the campus because that will be quite impossible given the bulk of enrollees we have this year. But the mere fact that the result is consistent, I believe this is worth publishing. And whether some might think this is against the principles of statistics, who cares? There is no statistics for attraction anyway.

So for the reference of every PSU gentlemen out there, buckle up! This is gonna be a bumpy ride, but Boy, I know this will work.

NERDS OVER REBELLIOUS

You have seen it right. PSU women like guys who were in their eyeglasses and are the recipient of the Loyalty award that the library is giving. (Hooray for those who are in their thick eyewear!)

Though some said that they still want the gangster/Daniel Padilla look of men who love to wear leather jackets (even if the sun is too hot) and black shades (even if it is raining), majority stressed that men who are immersed into their studies has a lot of knowledge (I wonder if you want to sit beside them during exam) and are persistent to improving their lives trough their rigorous study habits. Beside the response of one of the ladies I interviewed saying that rebellious type guys are “Pain in the Neck”, the bottomline according to herwill be “Nerd looking guys has a greater probability of having a brighter future.” (Do rebellious men have dim futures?)

FRIENDLY ADVICE: Go to the nearest Optical Shop now to order an eyeglass or tell your mom your contacts don’t look fab at all!

SWEET OVER BITTER

Who would ever want a man who looks as if he never cared over his girl? This is quite obvious. I am not saying that you guys would do love letters (which is now obsolete I believe) nor harana (cheezy!) or compose a love poem like Rizal, but truth is, PSU women really want guys who are generous. Generous in the sense that they still want us (that includes me!) to give them chocolates, flowers, stuff toys and other things to show their affection. And whether or not these women really enjoy receiving gifts (who wouldn’t?), at least an everyday exchange of “I Love You” may do.

TRENDY OVER PRIM AND PROPER

Are you on your long sleeves or Polo shirt during wash days? Oh man. This is the right time to change your wardrobe! PSU women like guys who are wearing the latest trends of dress. (Rich kiddo’s!) According to the ladies I have had a talk with, they want guys with a fashion sense. You don’t need to buy those trendy garments that are obviously E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E, but rather at least you can wear the cool way. This will not make you look so primitive nor left behind.

Besides, according to one of my respondents, men who wear Polo and Polo shirts during wash days and who are very prim, looks like a priest. Remember priests don’t marry.

MACHO OVER CHUBBY

Everybody loves to have their perfect body. And the PSU ladies would love to have a man with that kind of body. So if you know that you are one of those men struggling to lose weight, work faster! Although some of my respondents told me that Chubby men are cute and that they are too good to be pinched, but the idea was debunked when this OM lady straightforwardly stated that “chubby guys are huggable, but macho men are so damn hot!” (I hope they do not contribute to global warming). So I will not elaborate this so much.

SUGGESTION: Try to do some work out in a gym. (But don’t babble about it in facebook. It’ll make you sound gay.)

MANLY OVER KPOP

“Of course manly!” exclaimed this engineering lady that I had interviewed. You know why? Even if many PSU ladies are obsessed with the Korean effect that the KPOP industry has brought to us, still many believed in the idea of a Knight in Shining Armor.

Yes. You heard it right. PSU ladies do not want their men to have fairer and smoother skin than theirs or have lips more kissable than them. “This will outshine my femininity”, one of my respondents stressed.

“Although they may look cute and attractive because they are very clean looking, but that makes them look so feminine.”

UNPOPULAR OVER POPULAR

Are you one of those guys who were into performing anytime we have a program? Are you one of those who dance or sing to the cheer of the audience?

Oh boy, you might think you have a lot of fans, but hey, that does not add to your sex appeal.

Guess what? PSU ladies want their men to have a private life. It is because according to this COEd lady, “Having a boy who is well known does not give me the security that he is all mine. In short, ayoko ng may kaagaw!”

With these things, I guess you already know what PSU ladies want. The option of being their most wanted is in your hands. But if you will change because you just want to be wanted, I guess you might want to think again. Remember, it is better for people to hate you for who you are, than to love you for whom you are not.
