STAY WILD The Romans called Scotland ‘Caledonia’ meaning ‘Wooded Heights’ but today less than 1% of Scotland’s native woodland remains. Since 2011, HAGGiS Adventures has teamed up with ‘Trees for Life’, a Scottish charity dedicated to restoring 600 square miles of self-sustaining, Caledonian forest with the aim of helping Scotland ‘stay wild’. Under our ‘Stay Wild’ project we have raised thousands of pounds in support of ‘Trees for Life’ and our customers have planted hundreds of trees in our dedicated ‘HAGGiS Grove’ Find out more at: HAGGiSadventures.com/ about-us/sustainable-tourism

We leave Edinburgh and head towards Stirling Castle, Rob Roy country and rough and rugged Rannoch Moor. We then make our way to stunning Glencoe where your Guide will regale the bloody tale of the famous massacre of the MacDonald clan in 1692.

If you’re not one for the water then why not take a walk up the canal and find a nice spot to enjoy your free locally produced picnic lunch. (A typical lunch includes a sustainable cartoned mineral water, a choice of freshly made sandwiches and tasty shortbread).

Our tour takes us past Fort William that marks the end of the West Highland Way and is home to Britain’s highest mountain, the mighty Ben Nevis. We wind our way along the Great Glen and stop in the village of Fort Augustus on the banks of the bonnie Loch Ness.

Our journey home heads south along Loch Laggan stopping at one of the many quaint Highland villages along the way. We drive back to Edinburgh with views of the famous Forth Bridge arriving home with time to hit the pub for a well-deserved beverage or two.

You have free time in Fort Augustus where you can take to the Loch on a boat in the hunt for Nessie.

visit the magnificent feat of equine engineering, The Kelpies. We depart Edinburgh at 8.45am and head west through Scotland’s Central Belt towards the ‘Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond’ – stopping to soak up the breathtaking, solitary peak of Scotland’s most southerly Munro, Ben Lomond. Stretch your legs on woodland walks, with views of the biggest loch on the British Isles. You can also spot some of the 22 islands within the loch – which are home to an array of creatures including a colony of wallabies. The afternoon takes you to one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland, both architecturally and historically. Stirling Castle sits atop Castle Hill and has seen several Scottish

Kings and Queens crowned here, including Mary Queen of Scots in 1542. It was also central to William Wallace and Robert the Bruce’s Wars of Independence. Stirling town itself is geographically one of the most significant towns in Scottish history. On the way home, you’ll have the chance to ‘ooh’, ‘aah’ and, um, ‘nay’, at the world’s largest equine sculptures, The Kelpies. Each 30-metre high horse head sculpture is made from 300 tonnes of structural steel and designed by Scottish sculptor, Andy Scott. After a day full of exploration, we return to Edinburgh early evening where you can chill out in one of the city’s cosy pubs.

WHISKY DISTILLERY TOUR

Say goodbye to Edinburgh and hello to the ancient Scottish capital of Stirling - home to the iconic Wallace Monument and legendary Castle. Your HAGGiS Guide will regale you with the bloody tales of Scotland's most passionate patriot - William Wallace. Be prepared to hear more Braveheart quotes than you can shake a claymore at, as you learn of Wallace's integral part in the Wars of Independence. *Shouts* 'They may take our lives, but they'll never take our freeedom.' Feeling impassioned, we venture further into the rugged Scottish Highlands, before stopping to fill our bellies at a local Highland whisky distillery.

Some people squish up their face. Some stamp their foot on the ground. Others let out a loud 'ahhhhh'. However you react to whisky, don't let it stop you from going on this fantastic optional guided tour. You'll discover the history behind Scotland's most divisive drink. You'll discover how it's made. And hopefully you'll discover how to love it.

Take the tour to discover how Scotland's national drink is made and impress your mates when you marvel at how this whisky is: 'steeped in peat smoke' whilst you enjoy a well-earned dram. Nicely warmed from the whisky, we head to the Hermitage in the heart of Perthshire and explore the woodland and rushing Black Linn Falls on the River Braan. Our return journey visits the quaint village of Dunkeld, in Macbeth country, whose stunning cathedral sits by the banks of the River Tay. We return to Edinburgh, passing the iconic Forth Bridge on the way.

It’s time to pack your essentials and travel back in time to 18th century Scotland. Imagine travelling through the dramatic Scottish Highlands when you are suddenly transported back in time and bump into your one true love. Who wouldn’t like that. We can’t promise that will happen, but we guarantee you will have an unforgettable day travelling through some of the most famous Outlander film locations and stunning spots that inspired the hit series. We start the day in Edinburgh at 8.45am and head to Linlithgow Palace* (Wentworth Prison). We then visit the famous Doune Castle, one of the best preserved medieval castles in Scotland; it’s also a movie star. Most recently it starred as Castle Leoch, the home of Clan MacKenzie in the hit series Outlander, but it wasn’t the castle’s first time on big screen. It was used as a film set for Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Winterfell from Game of Thrones to name few. After exploring the castle we head to Fife, one of the remaining kingdoms of Scotland. Often referred to as 'Scotland in miniature', because of its stunning nature, turbulent history and unique culture. We make a stop in Culross, the town that was used as Cranesmuir where Claire and Geillis were accused of witchcraft and Claire barely managed to escape before being burned alive. It was a close call.

We’ll spend the afternoon in the village of Falkland, used as 1940’s Inverness in Outlander. It packs a lot of listed buildings for a small village, but if you are not interested in old, pretty buildings you can always try to chase Jamie’s ghost around the square. Our final stop is at Midhope Castle*. Get ready for tears of joy and a lot of excitement when we hang around Jamie’s peaceful home, the real-life Lallybroch before arriving back in Edinburgh. This tour is a must for all Outlander fans.

Please note: There are dates throughout the year where Midhope Castle and Doune Castle are closed for estate activity and filming.

Doune Castle is one of the best preserved medieval strongholds that has truly left its mark on the big screen. It has survived through the wars and rebellions of Scotland for centuries and has a story or few to tell. In addition to its interesting history the castle has also seen its fair share of stars. It has featured in the Monty Python and the Holy Grail and more recently used as a setting for Winterfell in Game of Thrones and Castle Leoch, the home of Clan MacKenzie in Outlander.
