Schönbrunn palace garden

What does it
remind you of?
The Schönbrunn palace garden as well as other baroque gardens is an impressive geometric artificial landscape. It amazes people with perfect symmetry, endless axes, monumentality and absolute lost of human scale. Even today we can feel the power and wealth, which the garden symbolized. But it is not even necessary to visit baroque gardens personally to be fascinated. We can start with look at the garden plan, which looks as designed for somebody looking at the park from very distant top view. The big surfaces of grass and flowerbeds, which we can hardly identify when we stay inside the garden, have clear, some how recognizable shape with the increasing distance. This fact brings as a new hide layer of the baroque garden, the new point of view, the new perspective. My project is about work with this top view, with these hide figures, which provoke my fantasy and bring me new associations. “What does it reminds me of?” The abstract figures at the plan are changing, like clouds in the sky, to the recognizable abstract animals. My main topic is critical view of this quite formal, top view designing method, which is typical for almost every baroque garden and the topics of hiddenness, the figure-ground relationship and the relationship between plan and human perspective. While the garden plan is dramatically changed, there is still the same Schönbrunn garden as before from the human perspective. All my new figures are as well hide as the original ones. It is the game with the plan the game with the hide garden secrets. I try to confuse the visitors while look at the plan and bring them to question if is possible to have in the park such a shapes without knowing it.
