THE IDEA WAS TO HAVE A BUILT ENVIRONMENT THAT WOULD BLEND WITH ITS SURROUNDINGS WITHOUT SACRIFING THE VIEWS TO AND FROM THE BEACH ADJACENT TO THE SITE. THE KEY CHALLENGE WAS TO PROVIDE SAFETY AND PRESERVE THE MARINE ARTIFACTS FROM HARM DURING TIDAL SURGES AND HAVE A LARGE SPAN STRUCTURE AT THE SAME TIME. THE WHOLE STRUCTURE ENTIRELY FLOATED ON THE MASSIVE COLUMNS, KEEPING IT 14’ ABOVE SEA-LEVEL. TEMPERED GLASS AND ALUMINIUM FINS PROTECTS THE SURFACES FROM TIDAL SURGES AND HEAVY WINDS. THE PROGRAMS WERE ALSO DIVIDED INTO TWO FLOORS, TO STORE WATER SENSIVITE ITEMS ABOVE AND LESS WATER SENSITIVE ITEMS BELOW. THE ENTRY AND EXIT RUNS THROUGH THE CENTRE OF THE STRUCTURE TO PROVIDE VEIWS AND ACCESS TO THE BEACH WITH EASE.

DETAILS

HAKALUKI HAOR, CHATAL BEEL, FARAHANGA BEEL AND HUKKANACHHADI BEEL ARE CHOSEN AS THE IDEAL SITE FOR THE CLINIC. THE KUSHIYARA RIVER IS THE ROUTE TO ALL THESE PLACES

MOULOVI BAZAAR DISTRICT OF SYLHET DIVISION IS LOCATED AT THE NORTH EAST END OF BANGLADESH.THE DISTRICT HAS HIGH PRECIPITATION RATE AND THE RAINY SEASON LASTS UPTO SIX MONTHS A YEAR. DURING THE RAINY SEASON, WATER LEVEL RISES UPTO 13’ HIGH. SINCE, THE WATER LEVEL FLUCTUATION IS HIGH THE DISTRICT IS PRONE TO FLOODING. A LOT OF GROUND GOES UNDERWATER DURING THE MONTHS OF JUNE, JULY, AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER. THE CONCEPT WAS TO DESIGN A COMPACT MODULAR MEDICAL UNIT EASY TO DISMANTLE AND EXPAND, AMPHIBIAN IN NATURE TO ADAPT TO THE SITE. THREE HEXAGONS WERE PLACED AROUND A CENTRAL HEXAGON. TO GIVE IT FLOATING PROPERTY, THE HEAGONS WERE MADE BOATLIKE AT THE BOTTOM. THE COMPACTION METHOD TO BE FOLDABLE. THE THREE HEXGONS WOULD ALL FOLD TOWARDS THE CENTRAL HEXAGON. MAKING THEM ONE SINGLE UNIT AND EASY TO CARRY OVER WATERS.

CONCEPTUAL EXPLANATION THE COMPACT HEXAGONS ARE CARRIED OVER RIVERS OR LAND IN THIS FORM, THE THREE HEXAGONS REST OVER THE CENTRAL ONE

ONCE EXPANDED THE THREE HEXAGONS SITS ON THREE SIDES OF THE CENTRAL HEXAGON

THE HEXAGONS ARE OPENED AT THE CENTRE TO UNPACK THE NECESSARY ITEMS SUCH AS POLES, TINS AND POLYCLAD

THE TINS FIT INTO THE ERECTED POLES AND DEFINES THE SPACE INSIDE IT

FINALLY, THE POLYCLAD ROOF IS SPREAD OVER THE STRUCTURE

SITE MAP

THE AIM WAS TO DESIGN A CHEAP HOUSING FOR THIS AGRARIAN COMMUNITY. THE HOUSING WAS TO BE USED BY THE FARMERS WHO WORKS IN THE FARMLANDS AND THE GOAL WAS TO DESIGN SMALL APARTMARTS AIMED AT LOW INCOME AND MEDIUM INCOME PEOPLE. THE COMPLEX IS 8 STORIED, AND THERE ARE 24 MEDIUM APARTMENTS AND 32 SMALL APARTMENTS. THE MEDIUM APARTMENTS OWNERS ARE THE REAL OWNERS OF THIS COMPLEX AND OVERSEE THE FARMLANDS, THE MONEY THEY INVEST IS USED TO BUILD THE ENTIRE COMPLEX AND THEY RENT IT TO THE LOW INCOME PEOPLE. THE LOW INCOME PEOPLE, WITH CHEAP RENT AND EASY AVAILABILITY OF FOOD CAN EASILY SUSTAIN THEIR FAMILIES. THE FAMILES ALSO GROW VEGETABLES ON THEIR BALCONIES WITH INTURN HELPS THEM TO SAVE MORE.

HOUSING- SECTOR 5, THE CONCEPT WAS TO DESIGN LOW COST HOUSING BLOCKS FOR THE FARMERS AND LAND OWNERS HERE. THE GROUND FLOORS ARE FOR SMALL SHOPS FOR THE LOCALS, AND THE BASEMENT WOULD BE PARKING APPROX. 21 CARS. THE SMALL UNITS ARE 800 SFT. AND HAVE 2 BEDS, SHARED LIVING AND DINING SPACES WHICH IS GOOD FOR A WITH LOW WAGE AND 2 CHILDREN. THE MEDIUM UNITS ARE 1600 SFT, WITH 3 BEDS AND MORE SPACIOUS LIVING AND DINING. THESE ARE DESIGNED FOR THE LAND OWNERS OR INVESTOR CATEGORY PEOPLE WHO OWNS THE LANDS, SHOPS ETC. OVERALL, THEIR INVESTMENTS ARE WHAT MAKES THE HOUSING BLOCK FEASIBLE FOR THE LOW WAGE FAMILIES.


URBAN

PLAN

URBAN- SECTOR 2, IS A MIXED SECTOR. THE CONCEPT WAS TO WORK FOR BOTH GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE SECTORS. THE GOVERNMENT FACILITIES SUCH AS FARMLANDS, PARKS, MOSQUE, MADRASA, LIBRARY AND SCHOOL ARE LOCATED IN THIS SECTOR. THE PRIVATE SECTOR OWNS THE HOUSING AND OFFICES. THIS SECTOR IS AT THE CENTRE OF BASHUNDHARA, SO THE CONNECTING GREENS, THE LAKE AND THE PARKS ALL CONTRIBUTE TO MAINTAINING THE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY IN BASHUNDHARA. IT’S ALL A CONNECTED PATH OF INTERESTING WALK THAT INVITES ALL, INTO THE SECTOR. THE WALKWAYS CONNECTS THE FACILITIES AND PROVIDE DIRECT ROUTES AND ACCESS TO THEM. MY PART WAS TO DO THE LANDSCAPING IN THIS SECTOR AND DESIGN THE MOSQUE.


LANDSCAPES THESE GREEN LANDSCAPES ARE INSPIRED FROM THE GREEN FARMLANDS AND GREEN LIVING, THIS SECTOR HAVING EDUCATIONAL BLOCKS, RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES IS IDEAL FOR CHILDREN. THESE LANDSCAPES WOULD THUS PROVIDE THE SERENE ATMOSPHERE A CITY LACKS, AND HELP IN THEIR DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH. LIVING WITH NATURE ALWAYS HAS IT BENEFITS FOR HEALTY LIVING.

THE PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN A NEW BUILDING FOR THE EXTENTION OF THE ARCHITURE DEPARTMENT OF CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY. THE OLD BUILDINGS WERE NO LONGER ENOUGH FOR THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS AND ALSO THERE WEREN’T ENOUGH FACILITIES WHICH AN ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT DEMANDS. THE PUBLIC UNIVERSITY OF CHITTAGONG TAKES IN AROUND 200 STUDENTS A YEAR OF WHICH 40 ARE ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN

THE CONCEPT WAS TO USE MAXIMUM FLAT GROUNDS ON THE PEAK OF THE SLOPE WHICH GAVE THE BUILDING IT’S SHAPE, IT IS ALSO A VERY IDEAL SPOT AS IT PROVIDES VIEWS IN EVERY DIRECTION. THE STUDIOS AND THE OPEN SPACE FACE THE SMALL LAKES INSIDE THE CAMPUS AND THE ROOF WAS DESIGNED TO FACILITATE PASSIVE COOLING FOR THE STRUCTURE.

THE IDEA WAS TO DESIGN A MODERN LUXURY APARTMENT FOR THE HIGH END PEOPLE OF DHANMONDI. DHANMONDI IS ONE THE POSHEST RESIDENTIAL AREA IN DHAKA, AND IT’S RESIDENTS ARE OF SUCH CLASS. THE LAKE, PARKS, SCHOOLS AND SEMI COMMERCIALS ADD MORE VALUE TO THE AREA. THE BUILDING IS TO HOUSE, ALL THE FACILITIES A MODERN APARTMENT CAN HAVE. IT HAS 2 PARKINGS PER UNIT, SWIMMING POOL AND EACH UNIT IS A DUPLEX APARTMENT. UNIT A IS 3054 AND UNIT B IS 3360 SQFT. THE BUILDING WAS DESIGNED TO BE ENERGY EFFICIENT WITH OPENINGS FOR LOTS OF SOUTH - EASTERLY WINDS AND THE SUN.

YEAR: 2017 STATUS: INCOMPLETE THE CONCEPT WAS ADOPTED FROM ONE OF THE PRINCIPLES OF MOSQUE, ‘HOUSE OF ALLAH’. REFERRING TO THE ACCESS OF ALL INDIVIDUALS TO IT. WE USED THAT IDEA TO DESIGN AN OPEN AND NATURALLY VENTILATED MOSQUE. THE BOLD USE OF CONCRETE AND DARK COLORS GIVES IDENTITY TO IT. THE ELEMENTS OF ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE ARE ALSO USED IN WINDOWS.


YEAR: 2017 STATUS: COMPLETED MR HASIB’S APARTMENT THE APARTMENT WAS ABOUT 2200 SQFT, HE WANTED A MODERN ELEGANT INTERIOR. WE DESIGNED EVERY FURNITURE IN THIS APARTMENT. IT WAS GREAT EXPERIENCE TO WORK IN CLOSE PROXIMATION WITH OWNER AND WORKERS. EVERY ELEMENT USED WAS MODERN AND EVEN LIGHTING FIXTURES WERE USED AS DESIGNED.

YEAR: 2017 STATUS: COMPLETED DHANMONDI, DHAKA THIS WAS A RENOVATION WORK OF A ROOM FOR A CLIENT, HE WANTED CUSTOM FURNITURES TO FIT HIS SMALL ROOM. WE DESIGNED THE BED, DRESSING, WARDROBE, TV CABINET AND A SEATING TOO. ALL IN HIS SMALL ROOM.
