Interested in architectural , technological , sustainble and energy efficient solutions for buildings. Excited when able to participate on the "process" from the conceptual design until the project's execution. This is one of the reasons why, after graduating as an architect in Brazil , I decided to study Building Engineering in Italy. One of the main projects during this experience was the refurbishiment of all the firefighters ' headquarters in Porto Alegre , which was very fruitful as a learning experience and also rewarding to know that we improved the qua Iity of the workplace of a profession that has such an important role in society.

SYSTEM AND STRUCTURE The system works with a mechanism that al lows movement around the "x" , "y" and "z" axis. Each floor is divided in 3 modules, and the structural grid along the floor is also taken in consideration to design the dimensions. For each structural axis we have a grid of 3x3 modules on the fagade. The bottom module of the fagade for each floor also has the perfect height to work as the parapet for the balcony.

The original building, without the fagade intervention, already had some strategies to deal with solar radiation , for example the balconies, and therefore the daylight indexes, as OF, UOI and sOa are within the comfort zone.

However, it presents a high value of ASE and glare (intolerable) and those are the main reasons why the shading system is designed and sucessfully solve the problems, as we can see in the analysis below.

Because the textile material al lows part of the solar radiation to enter the room , there is some glare, but never in an area higher than 5%. And even this % is controlled by the shading disposition.

Design Optioneering: Parametric Pavilion

Concept born in the musical notes of a brazilian song. Designed based on the radiation and wind analysis performed on Grasshopper. It also gives the possibility to change shape according to the music of choice.

THE PROJECT The pavilion is located in the center of Brasilia: Esplanada dos Ministerios, the most important square of Brazil. Connecting all the civic buildings around , the big square represents a perfect site to create a place where visitors could stop and enjoy the Brazilian music and artistic expositions, being able to feel how big and diverse is the country.

Design and analysis of a curtain wall fagade Design of the building , fagade structural calculation , thermal and hygrometric analysis and indoor comfort evaluations. This is an intervention proposal to an urban renewal of public area and to develop a void space in a consolidated area. The project aims to bring architectural and technological innovations, resulting in energy savings and a decrease in the CO2 emissions.

The wind behavior within the urban context follows the shape of the constructed surroundings and it is canalized through our site. Near the ground , the velocity of the wind is not effective. But at a higher level there is the possibility of a discreet flow of air.

The FREED ~OMEaims to be a welcoming place for people who seek a private and relaxing environment in order to take care of the soul and the body. It is designed to welcome groups of up to 5 people each unity and it works both as a place for meetings and workshops and as a holiday house for a family that wants to spend a weekend on the lake, for instance.

The masterplan is conceived to host 3 units of the building. The client has the option of having independent units or buildings units depending on each other. In the typical layout, one unit of the bu iId ing takes care of al I the needs of the occupants. It would function as a weekend house or for small workshops. In the optional , the buildings support each other, the middle building has a different layout, a wide space that can host bigger meetings, workshops or events.

INSULATION PANEL The insulating panels in bound bog reeds are used for internal and external coats. They consist of marsh reed panels and are ideal for thermal and acoustic insulation. The material does not absorb humidity or water and therefore guarantees a constant insulation even under humid conditions. As a natural insulator, the marsh reed panels at no stage , from harvesting to processing and final use, are harmful to health or nature.

ACTIVE HOUSE PROTOCOL AND LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT The project's RADAR shows that FreedHome can be classified as a building responding to the ACTIVE

THERMAL ENVIRONMENT DAYLIGHT

HOUSE PROTOCOL. The scores are never below 2.7, and this means that the designed space is comfortable for the occupants, achieving acceptable scores in the impact categories. Giving some housing problems happening in the city of ltaqui - RS Brazil , the project proposes a housing development that is integrated with mixed-use activities, located on an existing elderly residence entity. The aim is gather two target audiences: the elderly and the college students, who have moved to this city because of the implementation of a public university, in 2008. The proposal is grounded with bases in a model program that already succeeded in The Netherlands. They house these two combined publics with the objective of improving both their qualities of lite. In addition to the personal benefits, it is also an economical advandatge where the student can "pay" tor his rent with volunteer work. This program contributes to the formation of a more conscious and generous society and this design proposal is the result of the recognition of the region 's demand allied with new and adequate solutions tor housing these two significant portions of society.

The program is organized in two buildings: the higher one, in the back part of the site, works as the residence part. This 4-storey building also carries the most private functions, restricted to residents, and all the services supporting the residential area. The one-storey located in the front of the site is built as recreational and more public functions. It has an auditorium, coffee shop, beauty salon and an art gallery that are open to the general community and also can be a source of income for the residence. They are linked , allowing the project to be integrated while still preserving the privacy of the residents.

TYPICAL STUDIO APARTMENT The room is designed not only to be a place to sleep, but a private ambience of quality of life and thermal and acoustic comfort. The interior design choices are made so it will bring the joy of living from outside to inside. It is designed to feel young , cozy, fun and colorful.

Urban renewal caused by architectural intervention.

A proposal for a multi-use subway station that aims to fullfill a demand of the site. The intervention area is located in Porto Alegre (BR) and this specific region is precarious when it comes to urban mobility and connections with the rest of the city. The guidelines of the proposed architecture reflect this diversity of directions and performs this "conflict" between horizontal and vertical edges by its volumetric shapes. The two main volumes are the result of this concept of opposites, so the project consist in: - a vertical translucent volume that houses mainly the vertical circulation and the access until the underground level of the metro. Its aim is to reduce the station's dependency on electrical light and air conditioning equipments by letting the natural light reach the void and the air to be blown all the way down, attempting an energy efficient design. - a horizontal shaped volume that accomodates the internal activities of the ground floor, 2nd and 3rd floors and the terrace. Still on the "opposites" concept, this volume receives a dark color, in order to reinforce the antithesis with the other volume, vertical and translucent. Cl') • • •

The structure also relates to the concept when gives the building a "new direction". Large facade trusses and V-shaped pillars on the ground floor stand out in the external visual aspect of the building and introduce diagonal edges to the composition. They represent a new direction and a new rhythm , reinforcing the initial concept and the development that will be brought to the area.

The CAIRU INTERMODAL STATION is designed in to be an ground transportation hub that accomodates various transportation modals such as metro, bus, cars and bicycles. Besides providing connectivity between transportation options, it will feature services like a service called "ALL-IN-ONE " (a service where several public organizations are gathered in one place in order to make it easier for people to expedite documents, pay bills and other services) ; a MOVIE THEATHER /AUDITORIUM combined with an exhibition space and cultural center; and a SHOPPING area. The idea is that the station is not just a passing-through area for the commuters but also a qua Iified pub Iic space where the people can stay, shop and enjoy.

Architectural Studio: Cultural Complex Contemporary interpretation of historical building In Porto Alegre , a site with two pre-existing buildings designed by the architect Joseph Lutzenberger is chosen to house a new museumto honor the architect: the Joseph Lutzenberger's Memorial. It is a place for the preservation and appreciation of the "built history" that happens there.

The museum takes place in the same site where the pre-existence buildings are located , they ae renovated and function as co-working space and also are a "full-size " art exhibition. It is important to observe the presence of an internal patio as an integrating space, "inviting" the city 11 11 to go through its limits. Themes such as museography concepts and the old X new contrasts are inherent to the design proposal programme and ask for appropriate solutions.

The memorial building aims to emphasize the great importance of the pre-existences by highlighting the best spots, views and angles, framing them with architectural elements such as glazed and steel panels that compose the main facade of the new building. The internal courtyard works as an extension of the city and its sidewalks. In contrast to the translucent walls , perforated weathering steel planes constitute the opaque elements. They are proposed in order to emphasize what is important outside - the preexistent buildings - but also in order to enrich what is in the inside, such as the art exhibitions and the collection of the Joseph Lutzenbergr Memorial.

The wide-open exhibition area can easily be integrated with the internal patio through the translucent panels and make the visitor perceive the space as awhole and live the experience of getting to know Lutzenberger's art works and memories at the indoor exhibition but also being really inserted in his architectural work.

The entrance is highlighted by the auditorium, which has its volume sculpted by an inclined plane that draw the attention to the main entrance. Besides supporting the museum, the auditorium can be useful to the co-working spaces in the adjacent buildings and it can host workshops, conferences or presentations, even from the external community.

Refurbshiment of a 40-year old stadium, preparing it for the World Cup 2014, hosted in Brazil. In a partnership with Hype Studio, the team that developed the conceptual design, Santini & Rocha developed the executive project and detailing. The project includes the demolition and rebuilding of the lower stands (bigger and closer to the field) , stores and commercial centres on the inside of the stadium , a new museum, restaurants, an entire ring of suites between the inferior and the superior stands, VIP areas and new lounge areas, among other items that would make Beira-Rio completely new for the 21st century - renewed , modern, comfortable and safe.

Besides that, the per care with sustainability by using mainly eco-friendly materials and correct waste disposal, made it possible to achieve the gold leed certificate. The energy is 100% renewable, with LED lamps that assure 15% energy savings. The glazings are designed to perform well and the roof receives special white paint treatment to handle the hot summer. The drinking water system works with 55% reduction in consuption, because of a reuse system. This project also has parking spots for electric cars, which is still not common in Brazil.
