February Half Term Newsletter

Before you know it half term has arrived! The children and staff of Green Park have been very busy and active since the start of the new year and last week was no exception. Our Nursery, as well as preparing for the Chinese New Year have been making Valentine’s Day cards and with the help of parents and grandparents took them to the Round Meade post box to post. I wonder if they were all delivered on time?

Mrs England, our Reception teacher, has been collecting board games and dressing up clothes for her class and is grateful for everyone’s contributions and, if there is anyone else looking for a home for these kind of items, please send them into school.

Y2 have especially enjoyed studying the events of The Titanic in their HIstory and Literacy lessons and Miss Parkinson blogged about their great hard work, “Can you believe we have completed another half term? I cannot quite believe that I have been in Y2 for a whole six months! Well done to all of you children, you have worked extremely hard in all lessons and should feel very proud of yourselves.” Y3 have completed work with Chromebooks and their Green Park Google Accounts all about healthy eating and the human body and doing really well in the Mental Maths tests they have done this week.

Y4 held a Performance for Parents event to highlight their Djembe and percussion instrument skills. They were brilliant…..and so was Mr Martin!

Y4 start swimming lessons after half term at the Meadows Leisure Centre taking over from Y5 who have now completed their sessions. Y5 have, like Nursery, have been out about this week. On Wednesday, everyone went to Deyes High School to take part a Sports Cluster event and on Thursday the class Enterprise Group took part in a business competition organised by the St Helens Chamber of Commerce. They came 4th out of 15 schools and were very highly complimented by Natalie Armstrong from the Chamber of Commerce,

“ I hope the Children enjoyed this morning at the Chamber, and have enjoyed taking part in the enterprise game, they all did excellent. Some great examples of teamwork and communication were displayed, they were a credit to themselves and school.” At the Deyes High Sports Cluster event, the took part in box fit, street dance, basketball and trampolining….and had a great time!

Meanwhile in Y6, the children are starting to make the final preparing for SATs which take place in May.

The Y5 and Y6 football teams played two matches last week. Mrs Reed, our resident football expert, provided the match summaries GP vs Melling 00 great game! GP vs Hudson 62 to GP GP vs SJB 11 for the A team 21 to SJB for the B team. Ben Craddock man of the match for A team and Jadon Jones for the B team. All boys played brilliantly and tried their best. Some great tackles, fantastic footwork and marvellous defending. Thanks to Allan Watkinson for organising the matches and Dave Smith for refereeing. Miss Bennett’s Dance (Monday) and Ocarina (Thursday) after school clubs both resume immediately after the half term holiday. Our school blog is nearing its 10th birthday and we do our best to keep it up to date and relevant. We are looking forward to including more class based content in the coming weeks and months but in the meantime please visit www.greenparkschool.org.uk to find out more about what goes on in school. Have a good restful holiday and we will see you all next week. Peter Rafferty pp Jayne Hains
