Mention Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor to the well-traveled and they will immediately reminisce about the hotel and its glorious history. Images of past and present depict the full magnificence of Grand Hotel d’Angkor, which first opened in 1932.
The Grand Hotel d’Angkor was ahead of its time. It offered a bewildering array of experiences, such as torch-lit Apsara ballet accompanied by traditional musicians at Angkor Wat, elephants or ox carts for excursions, motor tours, interpreters and guides.
Like Raffles Singapore and Raffles Europejski Warsaw which become famous for their festive celebrations and parties, Grand Hotel d’Angkor was the first to host a grand Christmas Illumination at Angkor Wat in 1936, headed by the hotel’s first Director, Mr. Andrew Messner. It was an open invitation to attract discerning travelers to stay in supreme comfort and convenience while they visited the ruins of the Kingdom of Angkor. Mr. Messner had no doubt whatsoever that his Grand Hotel would climb to dizzying heights in Indochina.

Grand Hotel d’Angkor first opened its doors in 1932, providing what was then considered to be “luxury” accommodation for the first wave of travelers coming to see the famous Angkor Temples.
The matinée idol Charlie Chaplin, accompanied by his co-star of ‘Modern Times’, Paulette Goddard, stayed at Grand Hotel in April 1936 on his visit to Angkor Wat and stayed with his entourage.
The hotel re-opened as Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor following an extensive restoration. The hotel now offering the splendor of a bygone era to a new wave of travelers exploring all that Siem Reap has to offer.
