The Persistence of Memory My collection is a dream showing us TIME -“the clock and its mechanics.” Art is among the most inspiring elements that leads to legendary fashion. “The Persistence of Memory” by Salvador Dali, is a painting that is a portrayal of surrealism around which this collection revolves. The story line of this collection is about the abruptness and the nature of time which is distorted by the subconscious – in dreams time often seems to be fluid, uncontrollable, or a bondage with holds us in a cage where time is a factor that controls everything.

Camellia Flowers are the most beautiful element of nature. Every flower is unique in its own way - and has some softness and is mysterious and beautiful as a women and that’s what my collection reflects. After lot of research work, I decided to keep “Camellia flower” as my theme. I have tried to incorporate the qualities of Camellia in my collection by molding the outfit into a flower shape and by gathering fabric at a central point. The collection consist of royal blue, black and white made from satin, taffeta and leather fabrics. Just like a flower grown from a seed reflects the the sunshine, the dark character of black which absorbs it all and blue. The only color which maintains its own character in all its tones just like a woman who is beautiful as a flower who blossoms the world with love and purity and if needed won’t hesitate to show her dark side.

in July 2015, traveling to Beijing the Capital of China and Shanghai the main industrial hub of China. Interior Design Lecturer Ms. Merkt, in close collaboration with the Interior Design Faculty team organized the field trip. The chosen destination this time was China as it’s one of the main developing countries in Asia and relevance to the Design World. The students were able to have a look at the fascinating cultural rebirth of the country; they got a chance to explore Chinese architecture, interior design and culture. One of the main goals was to have a closer look at the impact of the 2008 Olympic Games on the city of Beijing. Apart from the huge Olympic park the students travelled to various other places such as the Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Shichahai area, the Temple of Heaven and the Great Wall. In Shanghai, the students explored the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, People Square and the lovely Yuyuan Garden.

Elisabeth Roulleau
discover her world of Haute Couture Embroidery. She also worked

with Chanel, Hermes and Dior, creating pieces she considers as her proudest achievements. It was indeed an absolute honour for us to have an embroidery tutor as brilliant as Elisabeth. She held an embroidery workshop for six students in Raffles Design International, Mumbai, out of which five students enrolled for Haute Couture Embroidery level 1 and one student enrolled for Haute Couture Embroidery level 4 since she had previously completed 3 levels with Elisabeth, one at Central Saint Martins in London and the other two levels at her studio in Lyon and followed by France. The students in Mumbai not only learned to create a beautiful piece of embroidery but also picked the skill of being patient. She not only explained them as to why a specific design is called Haute Couture but also taught them the discipline that goes into creating one. She made the sessions more interesting by introducing the students to other embroidery techniques like the ribbon and traditional embroidery. By day 5, students felt more powerful and more skilled. We hope to have Elisabeth in Raffles, Mumbai to reach higher levels of embroidery too. It was an experience that the students will always recall. Raffles Design International, Mumbai would like to take an opportunity to thank Ms. Tasneem Kalaniya for coordinating the workshop and making it a big success!

Think Design Workshop
Raffles Design International, Mumbai organised a workshop titled “Think Design on 28th-29th May’15. It was a studio-based workshop which covered some of the basic elements of Interior, Product, Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing, Multimedia Design and Graphic Design. The main motive of the workshop was to cater the aspiring designers with the 360 degree overview. It was a project-based workshop, where the students were given a task to design a window display which helped them to put down their imagination to test. On the very first day, a series of topics were delivered by international faculty covering the conceptual elements of design followed by the hands on experience on a project model by second day. The students had great fun and enjoyed themselves as the group activity enhanced their rational thinking. Participants were not only required to create models but they were also made to present it in front of a Jury as per their understanding and learning experience. By the end of the workshop students not only walked away with exciting prizes but also a participation certificate was awarded to them. We hope the learning received from this workshop will help participants to get into a right career prospective for their future endeavours.
