Dear Parents, RIS has been going sport crazy this month! Not only have we had our Nursery, FS and Year 1 sports days, we have been celebrating local successes in the recent Asia Cup (but not talking about the semi -final) and getting ready for the remaining sports days later this month. As you can see from the photos in this month’s SummaRISe, everyone had a great time, even some brave parents! With the fine weather in Dubai now, there are a wealth of sporting and active opportunities available in our neighbourhood with the beach walking track serving to connect jungle gyms with volleyball courts, cardio equipment, bouncy castles and lots more. Take a look at how much our Secondary students enjoyed their beach walk for GIVE and sports activities at the end. This year, because of the way the mid-term breaks have fallen, we have the opportunity to ‘borrow’ the DIA Al Barsha school athletics track for our upper Primary and Secondary events which opens up a whole range of athletics competition we have not been able to hold before. Sports Days will run for Years 4 – 13 next week. The calendar of events is on the previous page. In addition, our school volleyball season is in full swing with our senior teams doing extremely will both in the Innoventures competitions and DSAA Leagues. Away from the sports arena, we have been celebrating Chinese New Year across the school with special assemblies and displays. As well as providing Mandarin language classes to students from Year 3 onwards, this year we have a China trip for RIS students, led by Ms. Mei Ling, who will be applying their language learning to real life situations and immersing themselves in Chinese culture for a week at the end of March. RIS was re-awarded Green Flag status last month and we are particularly proud of this achievement because the criteria get tougher every cycle. Ms. Trupti and her team led the inspectors around the school highlighting our recycling and reusing initiatives, the organic garden and explained how we were conserving energy. There is still much to be done in this area however any support parents can give by dropping off unwanted newspapers and/or empty printer cartridges to the collection bins in the yellow atrium would be most appreciated. Special thanks to the Eco Team and parents who volunteered for last weekend’s beach clean-up. Finally, a big thank you as ever to parents who have been supporting activities and projects in school and at home. I am very aware that without your support in volunteering for events like Careers Day, International Day and the forthcoming Reading with Dads, providing costumes for Ancient Egypt, Romans, Chinese New Year and Book Week, supporting your children at Sports Days and school matches, the school would have a very different ‘feel’ and many of the events we celebrate in this edition of SummaRISe would not happen at all. THANK YOU! Wishing you all a safe and happy mid-term break starting on 15th. Tim Richardson Principal

Recent Happenings in the Nursery Nursery Sports Day
The Nursery Sports Day on 31st Jan was a great success. The games were of a non-competitive nature, keeping in mind the Montessori philosophy and everyone was a winner. Thank you parents for your active support and encouragement. We are so proud of our little sprinters.
All dressed up for the Nursery Photo shoot. Our little celebrities shone with their confidence!
Our children are benefiting from lots of role-play opportunities, which are developing their confidence, creativity, communication, social and problem solving skills.
The goal of education is to interest the child profoundly in an activity to which he will give all his potential.
Nursery students have been exploring the topic Sun and Solar system through art activities.
