Dear Parents, Thank you for your support during this eventful first term of the 2018-19 academic year. The photographs contained in this edition of SummaRISe give some indication of the number of events just over the last few weeks and the scale of engagement within them. Late in December, we celebrated UAE National Day on the largest scale ever in RIS history with every student (and lots of parents) taking the opportunity to enjoy traditional art and craft, meet some local wildlife, be entertained with fashion shows, typical Emirati dances and other stage performances. I was particularly pleased to see so many Secondary students taking the opportunity to explore artistic, cultural, natural and historical opportunities during National Day, led by our Emirati ‘ambassadors’. Throughout the term, we have welcomed distinguished guests to RIS including several local and international authors, British Olympic athlete Marilyn Okoro and our rugby players had the opportunity to meet the England 7s team during their recent visit to Dubai. As well as celebrations, we have also taken time to reflect on important issues including Commemoration Day, World Peace Day and Think Pink Day. Early this week, we heard about Innoventures new GIVE project to support schools in Malawi, East Africa and a trip planned for February or March to actually get involved on the ground. We have also listened to parent feedback regarding school communication and have developed the range of information now available on the iSAMS parent mobile application and the RIS school sports mobile application. We will continue to enhance both services to ensure information is readily and easily available ‘on the go’ to parents who wish to see it. If you do not have these applications installed on your devices, I would urge you to do this as soon as possible. Early in the term, we launched Twitter for RIS as a means of instantly sharing events at school as they happen and I am pleased to see that we currently have 237 members of our school community following the official RIS feed. I would be equally pleased to see that number double in the next 6 months! The second term is traditionally our busiest term for events and we start with FS2 and Year 1 Sports Days along with Innovents Qur’an recitation competitions in January. Before that, we have three weeks of well-earned rest and recovery. Whether you are remaining in Dubai to enjoy the sunshine and fireworks or travelling overseas, I wish you all a very safe and happy holiday and best wishes for 2019!
