PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE “Everything must change in order for nothing to change” - Christian Lacroix As Principal of Raffles College of Higher Education I am especially privileged to present “Unveil” our graduating cohort and their achievements. At the beginning and end of the many years of studying, there must be the desire to follow your obsessions and crystallize your ideas, whether they are vague and unformed, or crisp and certain. They must become evocative, every detail must be defined to propel you, the students, into a brave new world that is about to change for you. This change brings new adventures on which you will embark. These adventures can be familiar and nostalgic at times, yet extraordinary and new. Careers will develop, using original ideas that have been honed throughout the years of studies. Tonight is the time for Raffles College of Higher Education to “UNVEIL” a new the generation of graduates. It is that time once again to celebrate imagination, cause sensations and generate new philosophies and possibilities. The stage is set for the transformation to occur. On behalf of the staff of Raffles College of Higher Education, we wish them much success in their future endeavors.

Principal’s Message
FASHION DESIGN “There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you’ve never dreamt were possible” - Alexander McQueen Fashion is often seen as a form of escapism. It is a place we go to, that is at times overwhelming with its evocative imagery, illusions and strange new worlds. Fashion designers are always in a constant state of evolution and transformation. They push the boundaries of innovation and creativity. Though at times they may be elusive, eccentric and bizarre but they are always thought provoking.

Aurelia Evelyn Santoso Metropolis “Today I will tell you the legend of THE TOWER OF BABEL... Come let us build us a tower whose top may reach unto the stars! And on top of the tower, we will write the words: Great is the world and its Creator! And great is Man! But the minds that had conceived the Tower of Babel could not build it. The task was too great. So they hired hands for wages. But the hands that built the Tower of Babel knew nothing of the dream of the brain that had conceived it. BABEL…. One man’s hymns of praise became other men’s curses. People spoke the same language, but could not understand each other…” Metropolis (1927), by Fritz Lang
Petrick Sutrisno A Living Work of Art “Women of the world today dress alike. They are like so many loaves of bread. To be beautiful one must be unhurried. Personality is needed. There is too much sameness. The world seems only to have a desire for more of this sameness. To be different is to be alone.” -Marchesa Luisa Casati The inspiration of my collection is based on an heiress, a muse and an eccentric fashion legend, Luisa Casati, who revolutionized women’s clothing in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century.
Sasha Chen Mei Yan Androgynism This collection is inspired by androgyny and the idea that some human beings do not fit neatly into the typical masculine and feminine gender roles of their society, and the idea that a woman lives in a Man’s World and to be strong in society she has to wear masculine inspired garments to be one of them.
Kwek Teck Chuan Body Transformation The idea of body perfection has always fascinated me. Does perfection really exist, or is this notion or image of flawlessness alien to us? I wanted to explore the deconstruction of body shapes by using combinations of materials and leather skins. The result of experimentation and acceptance of this idea led me to the concept of re-inventing the new body or the second skin that could be worn in the future. The idea of expressing a distorted body, abnormality, is a venture into a new mentality and fear leading to the acceptance that disfiguration is the new perfection.
Han Xingyue, Vera Decoration Era Gustav Klimt’s 150th birthday was on 14 July 2012, I wanted to celebrate his art and life works through my collection. I used the elements of Klimt‘s paintings, all the decorative symbolic details and images that were so sensual in depicting the female form.
Marie Anne De La Roche Ortega The Organic Core This collection was inspired by an exploration as to what constitutes a timeless design. It led to a search to find the core and soul of the elements that surround us within a clean palette that eludes both intricate inner details and playful textures achieved by combining materials in an innovative manner.
Virginia Liu Killory The Ballets Russes Color and texture have always been my true passion in fashion. Les Ballets Russes was one of the most influential artistic phenomenq in the early 20th century. They have been a most desirable resource for me to explore and to experiment with, and the vivid color palette and exquisite design details provide me with endless inspiration for my collection.
April Seng Nwe Dandyism “Being well-dressed gives a feeling of inward tranquility which psychoanalysis is powerless to bestow. - Sebastian Horsley My collection is based on men who dress; those that are unduly devoted to style, neatness and fashion in dress and appearance. These men will always be the Dandies of the masculine fashion arena.
Zhang Chi Sherlock Chic I have always been fascinated by the idea that Sherlock Holmes was the most fashionable man of the Victorian period. Not only from his clothing but also right down to his manners and speech. I drew inspiration from the elements of men’s dress for this collection, as well as collars, cuffs, suits and of course the famous overcoat which has become the symbol of this great detective.
Patricia Bianca Martinez Apolo Egon Schiele My collection is a play on fragility and tension, frolicking in the shades of cinnamon and autumn, inspired by Egon Schiele, the man behind the painting.
Chen Xiao Hui Anmy Feminism ‘FEMINISM’ is the inspiration for this collection. It was designed as a tribute to emancipated and active women. I believe that being a feminist, one is concerned with empowering yourself by using fashion as a powerful means to express yourself. Women are still a revolution to the society and to the fashion industry.
Cynthia Fransisca Haryono Men Redefined The popularity of the third sex is becoming more and more seen all around the world. The idea of this collection is designed with the emphasize on the idea that a man who dresses up and act as a woman is more threatening than a woman who dresses up in men’s clothing. Based on this notion, I have created a collection for men, which is both feminine and masculine and that draws no clear line between the sexes.
Angelica Zhang Yang Zhi Power Dressing This collection is inspired by the idea that women, feminism and fashion gave birth to the concept of Power dressing in the 1990’s. I wanted to express the idea of authority by using the shoulder pad and built-up shoulders. I made references to the 1940’s as well as the 1990’s by widening the shoulders and by exaggerating this element it changes the silhouette completely, giving the idea of empowerment to women.
Jean Teoh Yuan Juen Eomaia “I’m sitting, chilled by vulgarity. Obsessed by a deep moist silence. Corrupted oxygen, steals my breath away. I need to run, run, run away. Flee rationality, away from the sun. Towards Eomaia’s womb, I free fall. And it is this placental obsession, raw, unrealized simian passion. That moves me, searching original humanity, From unlimited nothingness, into unlimited nothingness” -Maakia
Paulette Leigh Bañez Tecson Shamanic Metamorphosis Although most dub Shamanism — the idea of man interacting with spirits and becoming one with nature — a primitive belief, its essence still very much exists in today’s society as modern man unconsciously takes the role of a shaman in his day-to-day activities, with regard to fashion’s shamanistic nature. The zoomorphic aspect of shamanism wherein shamans acquire the characteristics and powers of the animals they embody inspired this collection. Man’s bond with fashion runs deep that it has the ability to tap into man’s psyche; fashion has become symbolic with and can transform people as it enables them to tap into their animalistic characteristics / fantasies, and explore their desires freed from any inhibitions.
Sky Li Xiao Ting Glamourous “I dress for myself. Not for the image, not for the public, not for the fashion, not for men. -Marlene Dietrich
Chris Zhao Yibo Gothic Nightmare Some lives are dominated by sadness, loneliness and numbness; the goth culture makes this depression become a lifestyle. In other words, suffering is a life choice, it is an art. Goth is not about violence, it looks decadent, dark, twisted and rebellious, but the accumulation of inner feeling makes it gorgeous.
Vivian Jiang Wei Losing (hand) touch “I don’t follow trends or the hottest fashion. I buy what I like and my tastes are quite catholic – haute couture to street fashion. I think dressing up or down should be a creative experience. Exciting. Fun. For me the key to personal style lies in accessories.” -Iris Apfel
Anna Lu Yi Female Armor Fashion can be considered an armor for females; it makes women look powerful but also feminine. In this collection I want to represent the strength and independence of women, but at the same time I would not cover up the beauty of women, because the soft curves can also be a weapon.
Doris Wang Yao Qi Organic Architecture I am inspired by organic architecture with their dramatic flowing curved lines and geometric shapes. I was especially fascinated by the idea of Deconstructivism and how it has the ability to go beyond the current modalities of structural definition.
Amy Fang Ya The Bride’s Face “Every woman dreams of being transformed into the most beautiful woman of all.” - Christian Dior The concept of “Bride’s face” came to be from a Kosovo bride in the village of Donje Ljubinje in the Shar Mountains, where the bride’s face is lavishly painted to prevent bad luck. The bride’s dress is handmade as is the headdress which is decorated with intricate beadwork, thus becoming the inspiration for my collection.
Debbie Kamil Through O’Keefe’s Eyes “Nobody sees flower really; it is so small. We haven’t time, and to see takes time – like to have a friend takes time. … When you take flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. … I decided that if I could paint that flower in a huge scale, you could not ignore its beauty. … I made you take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower. … The bones seem to cut sharply to the center of something that is keenly alive on the desert even tho’ it is vast and empty and untouchable… and knows no kindness with all its beauty.” - Georgia O’Keefe-
Ee Xuan Lau Le Style Moderne Many of us may forget that it was the nineteenth century European artist who changed the way art evolved. The Art Nouveau movement, whether simultaneously loved and hated, opened the door of the 20th century and gave rise to Modern art. I believe Daphne Guinness is the most stylish woman of the 21st century. She makes fashion come to life. In this collection I wanted to explore the reason she has been treated as the new Art Nouveau style icon of fashion, where the curvilinear Art Nouveau meets the opulence of Daphne Guinness.
Shao Bo Emperor and Empress “Death is nothing; but to live defeated and inglorious is to die daily. -Napoleon Bonaparte I am deeply inspired by the first Emperor and Empress of France; Napoleon Bonaparte and Josephine Bonaparte. As the most powerful people of their time, they created new forms of fashion from clothing to lifestyle. Theirs was a time when not only did Paris change but also the rest of the world.
Sae Tan Joory The Beauty From Desert I have always been fascinated by tales from the desert sands and the Bedouin tribe that inhabits it. This unique and mysterious people have created a way of life and a desert civilization that has inspired this collection.
Putu Diah Putri Utami The Surreal Body My collection depicts the extraction of rigidness in reality through the context of the surreal body. It is based on the concept of surrealism; allowing ideas that are derived from imaginations to be translated into real life forms.
Lee Ru Hui Louis XIV, The Sun King Louis XIV and the Baroque period is the inspiration for my collection. Louis XIV had everything under his control, from fashion to the whims of his mistresses. His palace Versailles was the world that existed to impress all that looked upon its glorious opulence and power.
Chen Chuyi, Joanne Indeterminate Lines The world is like the “indeterminate lines created by Bernar Venet, who is a conceptual artist, ongoing yet ever changing. Thus, the sculptures of Venet became the starting point and inspiration for my designs. I used the idea of fluid wave like lines to create a free flowing look with the colors black, grey, and white that create a strong contrast.
Daisy Yuan Transgender “I deliberately challenged men’s roles, in fact, I survived by taking on both roles, to be man and woman, all in one” - Grace Jones
Lin Yixin, Stella Geisha Geisha is a traditional female entertainer who acts as a hostess and whose skills include music, dance and games. The word Geisha literally means art person. These fantastic women originated in the old capital Kyoto in the 17th century in Japan. And they are the inspiration for my collection.

Annie Ye Zi Tong Dream Circus “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. - Coco Channel This collection is inspired by the clown of the circus with the theme of a dreamlike world. The fashion color is brilliant with purple and blue, showing a fantastic feeling. The various sizes of waving points and colorful lines decorate the dress to indicate the characteristics of the circus, that is, a sense of spirituality.
Bi Lin Exaggerated Kabuki My collection is based on the Japanese traditional art of Kabuki. Red and white, bright and dark, light and heavy, crisscrossing with multilayers of white exaggerated face make up. Of course it’s kabuki!
Candy Claudia Chandra La Belle Époque La belle Êpoque inspired this collection which has flowing silhouette with a little drapery, tight at the waist, with well-boned foundation, and the sleeves are quite tight. It creates the effect of a curved, flowing elegance, which is extremely feminine yet still modern.
Swaralipi Banerjee Mixage The British ruled India for almost two centuries, leaving an inevitable influence on India. This collection depicts the combination of Elizabethan silhouettes with Indian Mughal textiles and embroidered art work giving it an Indo-western look. It captures the true essence of the Elizabethan era and Mughal era, two of the most powerful and dominant historical chapters in the world.
Fanny Rayawan Morocco Spectrum The diversity of bright colours and array of fabrics represent the vast culture and ethnicity of Morocco. The beauty within the heritage is undoubtedly breathtaking.
Loh Yi Chien Wild Amazon In my dreams, I am often wandering In the most beautiful Amazon Rainforest, A place with abundance of plantation, A Forest that is a larger home for animals. And never been fully understood by civilization, The Rainforest was amazing. My dream of being there was so real, I hope to know more about it. It absorbed my feelings and emotions I wanted to live there in the middle of that beautiful Green moist Rainforest and my desire.
Law Wan Ying Gaudi’s Dream ‘Originality is returning to the origin.’ - Gaudi My inspiration comes from Gaudi’s Barcelona and the belief in the beautiful efficiency of natural engineering. It is the infusion of the “Solar City” in which metropolitan chic merges together with art and history.
Nguyen Hoang Xuan Thi Clinic Chic What do you think about the hospital clinic? It is clean and hygienic, and very clinical. Come with me into a new creative adventure with doctors, nurses, patients, and pills…where everything becomes fashion.
Mita Andriani Society C.O East meets west. This is a collection that is inspired by the western art movement of “Cubism as well as Japanese origami.
Luo Xiaotong Perfect Combination A perfect woman. Besides a perfect exterior, she has to have a strong interior. Just like how the construction of a building would collapse if there is no substantial foundation; independent and successful women are their own, keeping up their pace with men. Power and beauty, the perfect combination, is what a successful woman should be.
Winnie Leong Dadaism Horrendous incidents caused artists and poets to flee into their own minds where the new realities were no longer rational. They created art that was never seen before. Whether these works are rational or not is not relevant, because it set the world on its head and left us, the viewers, in astonishment.
Wenny Dewanti Wongso Splendid Eternity In things to be seen at once, much variety makes confusion, another vice of beauty. In things that are not seen at once, and have no respect one to another, great variety is commendable, provided it transgresses not the rules of optics and geometry.
Nadia Vania Hermi The Modernist The 1960s ushered in an attitude of being a mod that was a complete lifestyle choice. Originating in London, the Mod subculture emerged as one of the most popular youth cultures of its time. The revolution was youth oriented and youth driven; it began in streets rather than couture houses. The image was cool, neat, sharp, hip, bold, brash, and smart, the keys in defining the look.
Desy Christina Love In The Dance “You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching, Love like you’ll never be hurt, Sing like there’s nobody listening, And live like it’s heaven on earth” -William W. Purkey
Duong Thi Hoang Hiep (Hippy) Artificial Sweetener De-cluttering. Less is more.
Jane Karina Soebroto Vivacious Resplendence of structural symmetries fused with an array of exuberant hues; the denouement of which is an artistic conception demonstrating a progressive transformation of several rudimentary shapes into alluring geometries.
Katie Duong Thu Trang Contrast My collection is inspiration of two opposite elements – the lotus and the rock. The Lotus is the symbol of pureness and luxury while the Rock represents strength and freedom.
Kayla Woo Jing Yi Inner Child! When the world seems unfamiliar, we’ve grown. Childhood ceased, things astonished us. Feelings of wanting to be a child is in the minds of the adults.
To Phan Dieu Linh (Liz) Continuity They keep being born. Drowning in same old circles of life.
Huynh Ngoc Hoang Ly The Virgin of Paris For “The Virgin of Paris collection, I was inspired by Notre Dame, which is a cathedral located in Paris, France. I am interested in the architecture of this building and the Gothic feeling that it conjures. Moreover, I am also inspired by the stained glass windows of Notre Dame which are an important and integral part in the cathedral design.
Charlene Ong May Jean Metropolis The collection is inspired by the subculture of steam punk and its adverse influences on modern day fashion. The idea is to inject the obsessive nature that heavily influences this genre into a wearable collection of separates targeted at those with a flair for the clockwork couture but do not have the luxury to dress in costume in their everyday lives.
Mellania Wong War of Independence The American Revolution showed the will for liberty through the military. It reflected their passion, braveness, and solidarity. Thus, the very words themselves project a man’s true color; passion, brave, solidarity.
Yovani Turner Futurist Manifesto In the art of movement, the Futurists loved speed, noise, rhythm of lines, the dynamic depths and the oblique of language. It embraced an exciting new world rather than hypocritically enjoying the modern world’s comforts while loudly denouncing the forces that made them possible. Fearing and attacking technology has become almost second nature to many people today; the Futurist manifestos show us an alternative philosophy.
Xu Lingyun Aboriginal When people think of the world ‘ABORIGINAL’, they always think of something primordial. In this collection, I combine the art of the aboriginal language, culture and contemporary fashion together to create something new, unique and fantastic.
