FOR ANANGU, it’s the old men and women who really protect culture. Anangu have always been here. Our connection to countr y, heritage and culture never changes. Our ancestors - who were the old people when we were children - taught us the stories and how to live Anangu way. It’s ver y impor tant that we, the old men and women, are the protectors, making sure the culture stays strong . Like our parents and our grandparents, we will teach Anangu way to the young ones.
At Mimili Maku Ar ts we work together. The old men and women work side by side with their families, their children and grandchildren. This is Anangu way.
A lot of knowledge goes into our paintings - knowledge that was passed on to us by our ancestors. When we paint our stories and our countr y we are demonstrating our proud and strong culture. We’re sharing a little bit of our culture but we’re strongly protecting it at the same time.
W ith our exhibition we are making a statement - our culture is strong and will stay strong!
