COVER LETTER

Dear Sir/Madam, My name is Dyuthi Prakash and I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Architecture at Manipal University Dubai. I would like to apply for the position of intern at your revered firm. Along with my CV and portfolio, is attached a reference letter from Mr. Sujit Nair, Project Manager of Architectural Design Group, Dubai. I had the privilege of working as an intern at ADG in August 2014, where I created Dubai Municipality submission drawings, 3D Sketchup models, and preliminary drawings for an industrial building. I also observed several client meetings and observed how exchanges take place on the other side of architecture. I was also able to relate better to the course, Professional Practice at university, where I learnt about the nexus between the client, the contractor and the architect. The following summer, I worked at Play Design Studio, Auroville, India, where I worked directly under the project manager on the facade design of a community center. This got me very interested in areas of material and technology with respect to facade engineering. These were extremely valuable experiences that helped me understand the practical side of architecture which goes hand in hand with the creative aspect. I hope that you will consider me for the position of intern for a period of six months from the month of July 2016 at your firm. I believe I have an excellent understanding of the workings of a firm, with respect to management and design. I would welcome the opportunity to come to your office for an interview and can be reached any time at dyuthiprakash@gmail.com Looking for a positive reply. Yours sincerely, Dyuthi Prakash

DESIGNING EMERGENCY SHELTERS - ARC 401 ONE MONTH TEAM OF SIX

TYPE OF PROJECT LOCATION

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING HAITI, AFRICA

OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT

To design immediate housing for people affected by the haiti earthquake

DESCRIPTION

Primary Material - Bamboo Modules for singles, couples and families Designed as part of a proposal for the UNHCR.

CONCEPT OF PROJECT

Keeping the audience in mind, the idea was to create pockets of interaction without disturbing the fine line between public and private space.

HAITI Haiti was picked as the prime location as it is known for a history of earthquakes, and floods and I intend to battle these disasters through my design. Haiti has a generally hot and humid tropical climate. The eastern central region receives a moderate amount of precipitation, while the western coast from the northern peninsula to Port-au-Prince, the capital, is relatively dry. Temperatures are almost always high in the lowland areas, ranging from 15° C to 25° C in the winter and from 25° C to 35° C during the summer. -using foldable lintels, blinds or sunshades that can be put away when not needed.

The reason we decided to use biogas as the main source of energy … •It would be difficult to set up a coal power station in a disaster affected area like Haiti, and waste disposal is a problem faced by most nations in the world. •Biogas generation requires only kitchen waste, waste water, paper waste, etc. •It offers Zero garbage and Zero effluent and provides high quality manure and methane gas. •Hence it was decided to allocate one biogas of 5 m diameter to every cluster of 16 shelters.

WHY IS BAMBOO THE PRIMARY MATERIAL? Tensile strength: The fibres of the bamboo run axial. In the outer zone are highly elastic vascular bundle, that have a high tensile strength. Shrinkage: Bamboo shrinks more than wood when it loses water. The canes can tear apart at the nodes. Fire resistance: The fire resistance is very good because of the high content of silicate acid. Elasticity: The enormous elasticity of bamboo makes it to a very good building material for earth-quake-endangered areas. Another advantage of bamboo is its low weight. It can be transported and worked easily, the use of cranes is mostly unnecessary.

FOUR MONTHS INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

TYPE OF PROJECT LOCATION

INSTITUTIONAL DUBAI INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC CITY, UAE

OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT

To design a school of architecture in Dubai that caters to the different cultures and communities that study there.

DESCRIPTION

4 studios, a library, recreational activities, auditorium

CONCEPT OF PROJECT

The architecture student is the complete opposite of a normal student, he needs to be distracted. In order to do that, the spaces need to take him on a different journey every time he needs inspiration. The design attempts to create such spaces, with inspirational niches that direct the students toward critical thinking. It questions traditional methods of architectural education that dictate that students need to be lectured and taught.

LEVEL 1

LEVEL 2

LEVEL 3

LEVEL 4

The design questions traditional methods of teaching architecture and whether it really needs to be “taught or learnt. The lecture rooms double up as a peer learning platform, rather than a classroom, and a jury room. Students often find themselves in unexpected niches for contemplation.

OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT

To redevlop the Guomao station into a fully functioning transit hub, integrating four means of transport.

DESCRIPTION

A transit hub integrating metro, public bus, suburban bus and a pedestrian bridge in the urban animal, Central Business District, Beijing, China.

CONCEPT OF PROJECT

The Guomao Station in the Central Business District, Beijing is one of the busiest stations in Beijing, serving over 450,000 passengers every day. Over time, the transfer station has not been able to accommodate its passengers. This called for a new station to be designed, especially the transfer routes. In the design, the decongestion was battled by rerouting the passengers to the transit hub, where they could be dispersed easily. This was made possible by designing a pedestrian bridge around the existing two flyovers.

DUBAI AWARD FOR SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT

THE CUBE | RTA PROPOSAL

COMPETITION PROJECT

04

01

Presented a paper on Electronic Architecture in Urban Spaces at International Symposium of Electronic Arts 2014, Pecha Kucha format. Submitted the project, Encouraging Students to make the switch to Public Transport, to the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport 2014.

05

02

OBJECTIVE- To discourage use of private transport and encourage use of public transport among students of the DIAC and other academic campuses around the UAE. According to the Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC), Dubai has more than 1 million registered vehicles serving 1.9 million residents, according to 2010 data from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), of which majority are within the age group of 18-30. This means that every two people own one vehicle. More than half of traffic accidents that happen every year are caused by people in the age group of 18-30, possibly university students. So how can we make that transition from private cars to public transport to reduce traffic accidents, pollution, congestion?

THE CUBE. The structure is made of wood and steel panels, with solar panels on its roof. These solar panels absorb energy during the day and act as a charging dock during the night. Taking inspiration from the e-QBO, the proposed bus stop will have the following features: 1.Battery charging dock for any electrical device,i.e., electrical cars, mobiles, laptops, etc 2.Wi-Fi hotspot where pedestrians can avail free internet 3.A shaded seating area, as it is hollow on the inside. 4.Can be easily dismantled when needed. 5.Solar energy can be used to power lights, air conditioners, vending machines, etc.

AUTODESK UNIVERSITY EXTENSION COMPETITION HEALTHCARE IN THE HEAVENS

COMPETITION PROJECT

We predict that in the year 3000, the earth will be a completely different planet. We, as humans, will rely on artificial oxygen and minimal usable land. Our construction methods would have advanced by bounds and anything will be possible. On account of the same, we propose a healthcare unit that will transcend all ordinary boundaries.

HEALTHCARE IN THE HEAVENS

Sitting atop a singular round column, in the stratosphere, our healthcare bubble creates its atmosphere, and is a haven for its patients. It features everything that a hospital would house, and more. Schools of medicine like nursing, gynecology, surgery: elderly homes, plazas, recreational areas, cafes are a few that were taking into account while designing. A helipad sits on the topmost floor and will provide access for emergencies. The other form of access are the elevators in the column. The low temperature at that altitude will prevent the spread of diseases.

TOP WING

MIDDLE WING

LOWER WING

The cladding is a transition of triangles splitting from larger forms to smaller ones. This is to segregate the public and private spaces.

The round column will be the main core of circulation, with elevators to the ground and back. Highest floor will feature a helipad and emergency room for ease of access. Three floors will hold different schools of medicine, i.e., surgery, gynecology, nursing, ENT, etc, The plaza will allow the patients to recreate , and will feature lush landscaped areas, pools and cafes.

The lower wing will feature rooms for outpatients and the elderly

120 HOURS COMPETITION TRUNK TRAIL

COMPETITION PROJECT

Participated in the 120Hours Architecture Student competition in a team of three.

TASK-The task of 120 HOURS 2014 was to design a structure on the festival site that can function as a meeting point and attraction that communicates a sustainable statement. The Øya Festival is one of the leading music festivals in Europe. The delight of this music festival comes partly from the ability to see world-famous artists without the crush of a mega-festival, in addition to the festival´s broad musical programme – with a rich variety of musical genres represented on the festival´s four stages. The festival, which takes place in Oslo every summer, attracted 85,000 visitors in 2013. In 2014, the festival is moving from its home in the Oslo Medieval Park to the Tøyen Park. Until now the festival goers have enjoyed a prime waterfront location in the Medieval Park, with the Oslo skyline as an iconic backdrop.
