Business Tourism is shaping up in India. Tourism plays a critical role in shaping up an economy and Business tourism is becoming increasingly relevant because of its tremendous impact. For instance, 1 Rs. Spent on this industry generates 7 Rs. of economic impact. Also, business tourist spends about 3 to 4 times more than a general tourist. On this note, India for Mice – Meet in India conclave was held at Hitex, Hyderabad, this month that deliberated on the signicance of MICE Industry. Power packed panel discussions and high content deliberations were witnessed at the two day event. This event was a part of 3 industry events lined up back to back. Another two being the 1st IESA India Expo Shop in IEML and then the 6th IEIA Open Seminar at BIEC, Bangalore. IESA has collaborated with CII – Global Exhibition on Services for their inaugural show – India Expo Shop. India Expo Shop will now be a part of CII GES in this edition. I think this is a good move and will help our industry to catch relevant eyeballs. There will be a separate hall for India Expo Shop and this will also generate lot of awareness about the service aspect of our industry. Moreover, every corporate requires event services at some point or another so the exhibitors will get good exposure for sure. Results from a recent global Destination Index, compiled by the leading Global DMC and Event Management Companies, Pacic World and ACCESS Destination Services, have identied the top destinations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States for meetings and incentives. Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore were recognised as the top countries in Asia for meetings and incentives, with Bangkok and Bali voted as the most popular cities, and meetings and incentives being the most requested event types in Singapore. The month of march was fascinating indeed. This issue contains the latest developments in our industry. There are some informative bits and the calendar of upcoming events has also been included. n an era where everything is being bought online, buying advertising space online has hitherto remained untouched. So when the founders of The Media Ant were looking for advertising options for their earlier start-up, they could not find anything online. In their personal problem, they saw an opportunity and started The Media Ant. India's first and perhaps the world's too, the company has rates and availability for more than two lakh media options spread across verticals like television, newspaper, radio, digital and 5 others. Founded in 2012 through Power of Ideas accelerator program, The Media Ant has served more than 1 million small and large advertisers till date. As per Samir Chaudhary, CEO

and Founder, The Media Ant, “We are not only an e-commerce company, but more of a discovery platform. We help our advertisers not only buy media online, but also discover what media is right for you, discover the lowest price and discover the right people to execute your work. The future plan is to get all media in India listed on their site and showcase it in an easily discoverable manner. We are halfway there, says Samir. Whether you are a shoe seller from Agra or an app-based service provider in Bangalore, The Media Ant should be able to solve your basic question of 'What is the best advertising option for my product and how to go about it?' In Dec 2015, The Media Ant also launched 12th Cross, a marketing
services marketplace and Chakra, a marketing forum targeted only to advertisers and marketers. The idea behind launching 12th Cross and Chakra is to let the marketers have a single platform to enable them to perform all their marketing activities. ABOUT THE MEDIA ANT: The Media Ant, founded in June 2012, is a market place for media. Media owners list the details of their media on the site for advertisers to discover and execute. This is a free service both to the media owners and the advertisers. The Media Ant has information for more than 2,00,000 advertising touch points across various offline and online media verticals.

e it a congressional meeting or a successful conference or a spectacular exhibition; all the efforts and hard work put together by the organisers and participants, can burn down to ashes by a small act of negligence. The event organiser, whether an individual, collective or local authority, has prime responsibility of protecting the health, safety and welfare of everyone working at, or attending the event. Causes of accidents during events can be categorised into 6 categories, namely- structural, electrical/fire, crowd control, crowd behaviour, security and lack of coordination. Full of glamour, culture and tradition, the starry 'Maharashtra Night' event, organised by CII and managed by Wizcraft International Ltd., as a part of Make In India Week 2016, was running smoothly till a backstage fire led to emergency evacuations, chaos and heavy loss of property eventually.
The entire temporary erected stage and temporary erected structure, electrical wirings, mural statue on stage, sound systems, LED cameras, acrylic sheets and many other things were damaged. The overall damage is estimated to be of INR 18.54 crore. According to a report submitted by Mumbai Fire Brigade to Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehra, the likely cause of fire is stated as “Defective Electric Circuit (electric spark from the electrical wirings came in contact with the combustible materials underneath the stage) contributed by negligence of the organizers/ event management company by storing highly combustible materials below the stage that aggravated the fire. Fire spread rapidly due to: Heavy fire load, the large stock of combustible materials used for the construction of the stage and temporary structures such as various types of curtains, wooden planks, plywood sheets, acrylic sheets, etc. L.P Gas cylinders were brought in for creating an image of Lord Ganesha by flames. The MFB, in its NOC, had stated that LPG cylinders are not to be used. However, in spite of such instructions, the cylinders were brought in and the same got involved in fire and heat that subsequently led to L.P.G cylinder explosions.

rade fair exhibitors pursue a wide range of objectives. First and foremost, they want to come into personal contact with their customers. Customer-oriented objectives are the focus of nearly every trade fair participation. This was a major finding of the AUMA_Messe Trend 2016/2017 survey, a representative poll of 500 selected German companies exhibiting at fairs that are directed at trade visitors. The study, which has recently been published, was carried out by TNS Emnid on behalf of AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry. On average, German exhibitors set eight different objectives that they pursue at a trade fair. The five most important objectives are increasing corporate and product awareness (86%), maintaining
contacts with regular customers (85%), customer acquisition (84%), presenting new products and services (82%) and improving the corporate or brand image (80%). For exhibitors, trade fairs are still important for closing deals and making sales both during the trade fair and in terms of follow-up business. Six out of ten companies exhibit at trade fairs with this objective. Forty-four percent utilise trade fairs to conduct inexpensive market research and test customers' acceptance of new products. Fourteen percent of trade fair exhibitors have the objective of acquiring new employees, saving expensive personnel recruiting c o s t s , i n p a r t a t l e a s t . Fo r companies with annual turnover of more than 50 million euros, this number rises to 26%.

to the increased attention from source markets including North America, Australia and other Asian regions. In Europe, France and Italy were identified as the top countries for meetings and incentives. Improved transport links and investment in infrastructure resulting in the opening of a number of new hotels and venues were factors accountable for the fact that Milan and Paris have both been voted as the most popular European cities for Meetings and Incentives, with increased interest from source markets such as the Middle East, USA, UK, Germany, and Brazil. The UAE was recognised as the most popular destination for incentives and conferences in the Middle East, with the UK, Saudi Arabia and India identified as the key source markets
placing inbound business into the destination. Accessible flight routes, new hotels, and an investment of time and resources in the latest technology and set-ups to facilitate large-scale events have pushed the UAE to the top of the list. Texas topped the list as the most popular destination for meeting and events in the USA, followed by Florida a n d L a s Ve g a s .
