“To engineer a "feel" we need a be er understanding of all five senses, but what goes even beyond is a sense of community that creates the "buzz". We can call the "buzz" the seventh sense. The exhibi on industry must do a decent job of genera ng the 7th sense.

Exclusive Interview
THE DYNAMIC CEO EXHIBITION SHOWCASE TALKS TO SUDEEP SARCAR, CEO, INDIA EXPO MART
consistency in delivering services to “theOurorganizers in the standard and format experienced abroad through proven policy; wins us many hearts. I am sure, this has changed the thought process of organizers, exhibitors and visitors that the facility here has not compromised and meets the Interna onal standards, which at the same me is affordable, sustainable and reliable. India Expo Mart is a purposebuilt MICE Venue that is at-par with the globally best. The quality of our venue can be assessed by the fact that the number of renowned events being hosted here is increasing consistently and also the shows being held here are constantly increasing in size, year on year.”
Exclusive Interview “A great leader is one who knows the way, walks the way and shows the way.” Mr. Sudeep Sarcar, we all know how passionately you perform your role. In-fact, I must congratulate you, for today I have came to India Expo Mart by Metro. It is a big development indeed. I am mee ng you on the sidelines of Petrotech, and I take this opportunity to learn more about you and IEML. Excerpts of the conversa on between Raghav & Sudeep Sarcar; ES: How has the Venue evolved over the years since the me you started, back then there used to be only handful of events being hosted here, as compared to today, where mul ple parallel events are running at the same date. Sudeep: Congratula ons to all of us! The metro has finally started and you u lised the service. I am happy to share that India's first private venue has now got metro connec vity. I have also availed the facility myself and observed many fellow passengers using it to reach the IEML the venue during Printpack. I am sure more and more people will use this service. This will give us triple benefit: low transport cost for exhibitors and visitors; reduc on in carbon footprint around Delhi NCR and reducing travel me. All in all, this can lead the MICE sector towards sustainability. Another interes ng thing that happened at India Expo Centre & Mart, though not for the first me, is that we were again hos ng 4-5 parallel events in the venue simultaneously. Advantage of India Expo Centre & Mart is that it has 12 entry/exit gates, 15 state-of-the-art halls and lots of open space, hence the con nuous work and flow of visitors; exhibitors and service partners can happen in tandem during parallel events. For instance, while Printpack was underway, the setup for Petrotech was in progress at Hall 2,4,6,8. Simultaneously, prepara on for IHGF Delhi Fair-Spring 2019 had also started. During the first week of January 2019, we did Indian Foundry Congress in halls 2,4, 6 & 8 and the Foundry Exhibi on in halls 14 & 15; India Interna onal Garment Fair in halls 1,3,5 &7; SATTE in halls 9,10,11 & 12, while prepara on for the soon to be held Photo fair-CEIF was going on alongside.
All this has not only helped us in increasing revenues but has also helped organizers keep the best suited dates for their events. Organizers are now reaping the benefits of hos ng events at IEML- compe ve rental; interna onal standard services and enhanced & quality foo all. This has really added up to the momentum of the purpose-built MICE Venue. It has been observed that organizers who were doing their shows successfully in other parts of the country are preferring to bring their shows to IEML. Rightly so, as it is noted that such events have become even more successful, occupying larger venue area than before and recording be er quality turnout than previous
edi ons. Over me, we have developed great consistency in delivering services to the organizers in the standard and format experienced abroad through proven policy; methodology - like delivering services. We have set performance benchmarks and do not compromise on quality anywhere. Our team is always on the move and we work like partners to the organizers to make their events successful, assis ng them by all means, 24 x 7 if need be. I would say that our services are affordable, sustainable and reliable, yet at par with the interna onally best. Our locale, Greater Noida is fast evolving. Lately, a lot of facili es have become available in the vicinity. Many sports and entertainment facili es have come up. As required by this industry, manpower is easily available. There is a choice of star and budget hotels to choose from. ES: There are feedbacks from organizer and exhibitors that the venue witnessed quality foo all, which were B2B trade visitors. Despite its loca on in Gr. Noida, what can you a ribute this success to? Sudeep: It is important that the organizers have made their exhibitors understand that large crowds would not necessarily bring good business. It is the relevant trade visitor/consumer, who should come with a certain perspec ve to a end the event and that will ma er most. The exhibitor must allow quality me to a end to such visitors rather than was ng energy on large crowds. With targeted marke ng prac ces, the B2B show organizers are now a rac ng only genuine visitors to their shows. The good aspect about IEML is that only genuine visitors turn up at the events, which is thoroughly welcomed by the par cipants. Having said that, we are in fact hos ng some events where massive foo all occurs, like in Auto expo, one million people approximately visited the event over a week. I am pleased to share that Printpack India, organized here recently, had almost doubled in numbers as compared to its last edi on. ES: Which global venue do you personally admire? Something that the Indian venues can pick up from the global stars? Sudeep: I can't look at it that way because the western located venues are largely govt ini ated or supported. Chinese venues are also under State. Even in UAE, so many large venues exist which are under the government control and so is in USA. In my opinion Frankfurt, Excel, Dubai venues are the ones that I personally admire and here I would like to add venues from India as well, like HITEX and BIEC in the South and IEML in the North, which are under private management but has interna onal standards and paying due diligence to sustainability. ES: With venue development in Dwarka and redevelopment of Praga Maidan, do you feel supply is going to exceed the demand or healthy compe on is going to occur? Sudeep: The compe on is obviously going to be healthy. The sector is growing and that is more important for all of us. Supply is increasing because of increase in demand and looking ahead, Indian economy is projected to grow steadily over the years. We all know that exhibi ons are the pillars to economic growth

Exclusive Interview and it has now evolved as a cri cal marke ng pla orm for corporate. I have been saying that a lot of events that have happened over the period of ten years have increased in size. IHGF Delhi Fair is now the world’s largest show in handicra sec on and Printpack has become the largest fair of its kind in India and the 3rd largest in world. Similarly, if we take examples of other industries like food & beverage, architecture, construc on, apparel, educa on, medical, tools, agriculture, then India is a huge market. If these sectors grow in India, exhibi ons would also grow. We are going to witness emergence of more specialized and super-specialized shows in the mes to come. And this, I assure is good news for all of us. ES: What kind of specialized events can we have in India? Sudeep: Power genera on, defence sector, Railways, Ar ficial Intelligence, affordable housing, construc on and many more. ES: India Expo Mart has also started organizing its own shows, do you see that this can be a cause of anxiety for the organizers? Sudeep: No its otherwise. India is doing large shows but even larger shows are required to a ract global visions with complete range of products and services. I said that before also. The sustainability of venue increases manifold when it starts organizing its own shows that are not directly in compe on with others, and if at all there are any chances of shows ge ng overlapped, then we allow sufficient me in between the events. Today, organizers are coming forward to co-organize / locate their shows with us. I would like to share that BIOFACH India by NürnbergMesse India will be co-located with World Assembly on

Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy(WAAYN) to be held in Nov 19. ES: You are giving opportunity to the young blood through an inhouse exhibi on academy. Can you highlight this ini a ve with us? Sudeep: This is a new ini a ve and we are first to start this in India. There is no specialized and dedicated ins tute in India started by a venue for providing MICE educa on. With the growth in the tourism industry, we require skilled workforce to plan, execute and operate MICE events. Our academy has partnered with different universi es/colleges, 17 as of now and we are training students on event management related aspects. The best part is that we provide them with hands-on training with the organizers, giving them a chance to work at the shows being held here thus fuelling them with prac cal knowledge, confidence and exposure. I call upon my fellow colleagues to join in this ini a ve so that the trained youth can fill in the demand of the industry. In that way, we are playing a bigger role, and that is for the development of the overall industry as such. ES: What are your upcoming plans? Is there any hotel, infrastructure coming up? Sudeep: We have extended in our infrastructure in the front area by 14000 sqmt. hard plinth with washrooms, chillers and trench facili es, so that outdoor events and exhibi ons can happen there. There are plans to build an in-house guest house - the ground work for which has already started.
Exclusive Interview A Quick Rapid Fire ES: When did you start your career in exhibi on industry? Sudeep: Started my journey in 1993 and stepped into the MICE sector of service industry in 1996. ES: Who is your inspira on? Sudeep: My father. I have seen him working very hard for upli ment of the poor in the society. I see him dedicated that way ll today. My inspira on in the MICE sector is Mr. Rakesh Kumar; Chairman India Expo Centre - who had this vision 15 years back of crea ng an infrastructure unmatched ll date. He is always there for advice, guidance and help. He is always approachable. ES: Your Favourite Book? Sudeep: Nothing specific but I love reading a variety of books; ar cles and interviews etc. I have passed out from Sri Aurobindo school and hence read considerable wri ngs of him.
ES: Things you dislike Sudeep: I dislike the word “ho jayega”, it should not be part of anyone’s dic onary and is poten ally dangerous when said without commitment. ES: Your biggest learning Sudeep: see the big picture and develop quality process to expand and sustain. Keep going, this is life and you have to live and enjoy your work through planning, and planning needs process and pa ence. ES: Message for Exhibi on showcase Sudeep: Exhibi on showcase is doing a great job, filling the requirement of the sector for last 6 years. I have seen the team growing over a period of me. They are now more professional, delivering aspira ons of the organizer and stakeholders, cri cal interviews, media coverage. I personally admire a lot of your ini a ves and the things that you are doing for this industry.
ES: Your favourite stress buster Sudeep : Yoga, cycling and interac ng with youth - They give you so much of energy. For the past one year I have started spending some me with the street children and old age homes. I also love music and films. ES: Your Favourite Cuisine Sudeep: Anything to do with sweets, especially Indian home made sweets. I am also fond of chocolates. ES: Your favorite holiday des na on Sudeep: Kolkata
