China's Slowing Down Could Mean Trouble for Global Growth Confirmation that China's economy is slowing amid an escalating trade war is a worrying omen for global growth. Data released has affirmed what's been expected for some time: That an ongoing campaign to curtail credit is putting the brakes on the world's second-largest economy. Given that China generates as much as a third of global growth, that's adding to signs that the best world expansion in years is plateauing. International Monetary Fund has repeatedly warned that the trade spat between the U.S. and China will reverberate globally. The Chinese economy grew at an expected 6.7 percent in the second quarter, its slowest pace since 2016, while key readings on investment growth and industrial output slowed in June. While the numbers point to a modest slowdown in China, the U.S.-led trade war has only just begun. U.S. President Donald Trump this month implemented tariffs on an initial $34 billion of imports from China, which retaliated in kind. Trump is expected to deliver levies on another $16 billion worth of goods and has threatened to expand the hitlist by $200 billion. China has threatened to retaliate again. That means headwinds not just for China's economy, but for the world's too.

This would help the handicrafts exporters hire international designers from across the globe as per their requirement. O.P. Prahladka, Chairman-EPCH hailing the decision said, “the inputs of the skilled international designers would help drive innovations, new product developments and traditional craft material processing in this sector”. According to Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director-EPCH, this exemption will help Indian handicraft exporters in utilizing expertise, experience and skills of international designers to produce products in sync with international trends.

INDIAN ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT INDUSTRY RECORDS A HIGHEST GROWTH OF 12.8% IN SEVEN YEARS: IEEMA After a lull of almost seven years, the Indian Electrical equipment industry has once again gained momentum by clocking an impressive growth of 12.8% in FY 17-18 Ÿ Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 saw impressive growth of 25% and 14% respectively Ÿ High growth in segments like rotating machines (12%), HT Motors (18%), cables (20%) and Meters (28%) Ÿ
crore Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA) in September to provide electricity connection to around 4 crore families in rural and urban areas by December 2018. Joining hands with government for this cause, IEEMA along with REC has created a North East Cell to give impetus to this growth by emphasizing on distribution in North East. With reforms like Make in India and Ease of doing business, India has jumped a record 30 places to the 100th spot in the World Bank Doing Business rankings and aims to be in the top 50. Thus to achieve the target the present Government has been showcasing the spectrum of measures focusing on rural and infrastructure sectors.
T
he electrical and industrial electronics industry has witnessed a record double-digit growth of 12.8% in 2017-18. Although higher imports still plague the industry but policy changes and various initiatives undertaken by the Government and industry are eventually showing signs of revival for the sector. The data is compiled by the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA), the apex Indian industry association of manufacturers of electrical, industrial electronics and allied equipment. IEEMA members contribute to more than 90 per cent of the power equipment installed in India and represent a turnover of over 42 billion dollars. The production and sales data is collected from its member organisations, which represent 90 percent of the entire sector. Mr Shreegopal Kabra, President, IEEMA said, “A substantial improvement in growth was experienced in the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2017-18 which resulted in a sharp rise in the performance. During this period, the industry grew by 25% in Q3 and 14% in Q4. The astonishing growth of 12.8% is propelled by growth in segments like
rotating machines by 12%, HT Motors 18%, cables 20% and Meters 28%”. The government is procuring smart and prepaid meters to be deployed across the country. It has urged electricity meter manufacturers to scale up production in India, as it plans to shift all connections to smart prepaid meters over the next three years. Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has floated two global tenders for procuring a total of 10 million smart meters.” “Growth is also seen in transmission mission line towers due to increase in demand in the domestic market. The Installed Generation Capacity as on 31st March 2018 is 3,44,002 MW. Almost all sectors are in green after 2 years of dull period; mainly due to domestic demand. The high growth in Q3 & Q4 is also due to stabilized GST,” he further added. The industry's record performance is attributed to Government’s schemes like DDUJGY, IPDS and Saubhagya where the country is racing to provide electricity to households in the villages. The government unveiled Rs 16,320
Mr Sunil Misra, Director General, IEEMA reacting on the industry growth articulated, “We believe that this growth momentum will be sustained since major chunk of transmission and distribution projects are likely to be ordered in next fiscal. However, most of the orders would be through EPC route with more new players entering the business and sub-contracting the same to existing contractors. The sectors seem to be reviving from the dark days. Talking about the renewable sector, the Solar Capacity has increased rapidly in last three years from around 2.6 GW to 22 GW. The government is taking proactive steps to achieve the RE generation targets. However, there are still concern areas which have led to decline in growth of Conductors and Insulators.”At the same time while the growth was there in all the sectors, there was a surge in raw material price in major metals and insulating materials. This has affected adversely the cash flow of the manufacturers thereby affecting the delivery.

Dilpreet - I’m the founding Partner and Director at Eventually Pro LLP. My Role is to steer the organisation to greater heights with a strategic focus on large format events and exhibitions. My role also is to strengthen our client relationships and deliver delight each time we deliver a project for them. ES - When did you start your journey in the exhibition industry? Dilpreet - I began my journey over 2 decades back as an architecture graduate and began working with my Father’s company (Arch Concepts Pvt. Ltd, a pioneering name in the events & exhibitions space) with projects ranging from interiors to museums and yes, exhibitions around the world. What my architecture background did is helped me see each project from a professional point of view and enabled me to deliver designs and plans that were a cut above the rest. So yes, its been 2 decades of doing exhibitions since. ES - What all services does you organisation offer and who all are your major clients? Can you highlight some of your key achievements? Dilpreet - Eventually Pro is a full service events and exhibitions
company and we pride ourselves as the ally for all things experiential for our clients which range from Industry Bodies/ Chambers (FICCI) to Government Departments and ministries and some leading Corporate names like Dyson, Volvo Eicher Motors, Royal Enfield and the Vedanta Group to name a few. We are proud to have delivered quite a few large format events. This would include – two editions of the International Day of Yoga (for Ministry of Aiyush), Janadhriya Festival Saudi Arabia (For FICCI & MEA), Wings India – Biggest Aviation event in the country (For FICCI), India Launch of Dyson – the British Appliances brand and yes, the most recent one – for FICCI and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change – The World Environment Day 2018 where India was the host nation for this UN event. We managed the whole event end-to-end. The event had over 12000 Sq Mt of Curated spaces, 3 days of Conference at Vigyan Bhawan, a special hall for UN Agencies and a 2 day live entertainment piece at Rajpath. We are truly proud to have delivered this one flawlessly. ES - According to you what is significance of the experiential industry? What are the future trends coming up in this industry? Dilpreet - The significance of the experiential industry should be evident from the year on year growth that it has delivered over the last decade or two. The Indian Media and Entertainment (M&E) sector reached almost INR1.5 trillion (US$22.7 billion) in 2017 (according to FICCI EY Report 2018 and we as experiential marketeers are certainly part of this growth story. In fact, up to 40% of all media spends are pegged in the face-toface / experiential part. As far as the trends are concerned, this percentile figure is only going to go up as we go forward. Another key trend is the use of Digital and Technology in the experiential space. From more and more VR interactives to other new tech and social media integrations are among the new trends. ES - How do you utilise the power of technology and unique innovations in your work? Dilpreet - As I said above, Technology is the next big wave in the experiential industry and anyone not utilising it to their advantage is clearly not going to last in the business. We are proud to have integrated technology in most of our recent projects whether is World Environment Day – where we had a VR booth for saving the oceans or the real time Selfie booth to creating engaging games for Eicher Motors at their launch events, we are proud to be in sync with the times. We also pride ourselves in pushing these technologies to our clients and sometimes even educating them about the latest trends in content presentation and interactive avenues.

Interview ES - What has been the most challenging project for you in the last year? Dilpreet - The most challenging assignment in the last year would be the World Environment Day as we turned around this Global event at Rajpath Lawns spread over an area of 12000 plus Sq Ft, from tatters (thanks to a wild storm a day before the inauguration) to a fabulous event on time. The challenge was not just to set this huge event up, it was also to get the sets and set-up back in pristine condition after the storm before the Prime Minister’s Visit and we are proud that we did it on time. The challenge also was managing multiple stakeholders for a project of this scale. From multiple departments and over 100
Exhibitors and keep their confidence intact, specially after the devastation caused by the storm. Yes, so 3-5 June, The World Environment Day Conclave and Exhibition was perhaps, the most challenging assignment that we delivered recently. ES - What are your upcoming plans? Dilpreet - We are working on multiple projects currently and ramping up our team as well as we notch considerable growth in the first year and a half of our institution. You would hear from us in due course of time on the newer frontiers we conquer.

Interview
Exhibition Showcase Talks To Atul Todi - CEO, 10Times ES - When did you start 10 times.com? What was the idea behind it? Atul - 10Times was started in 2014. The idea was to make it easy for people to find and attend events. Our core belief is that events help connect opportunities. So more events lead to more meeting, which enables more business growth. Therefore the name 10Times, business is about 10x growth. ES - How has been your journey since inception? Atul - It's been a roller-coaster ride. Events is not an easy industry. Data is extremely fragmented and unorganized. With technology disrupting industries and processes, event goers need information that is linked and synced. They want a seamless experience to address all their event needs. Piece by piece, we have been trying to address many challenges from discovery to meeting setup. To address a market of over 300 million exhibition attendees, we have been growing steadily over the last 4 years and today the platform serves over 30 million users globally. With minimal investment, we have been able to build a profitable and stable tech company in the event space. While 25000 organisers have used our platform to grow their events, over 400 paid clients from 20 countries have leveraged our platform as the go-to marketing solution. As the only holistic event campaigning platform, we deliver better value than likes of Google and Facebook on a global level. ES - Please share your site traffic, audience demographics, and other statics over the years? Atul - The platform reaches upto 30 million unique users globally. Around 50% of the audience comes from NorthAmerica and another 20% from Europe. Most users tend to be over the age of 24 and manager level. So the platform is most popular amongst business professionals. In recent times, we are also growing our focus on younger audience (millennials) who are fast becoming integral part of the work force. ES - Which region do you get maximum traffic from? Atul - Maximum traffic on 10Times comes from the United States of America. We are seeing a growing traffic from SouthEast Asia, which reflects the rise in economic activity in this region. ES - Can you also obtain insights about the behavioural patterns of the trade visitors through your platform? Atul - We have various insights and behavioural pattern about trade visitors. Our goal is to use this data to improve user experience and build a powerful event ecosystem. We know who is interested in what industry, from which country, at what time, what sort of people they want to meet, where they want to go, and many other patterns unique to the event industry. ES - What are your upcoming plans? Atul - In terms of business, we plan to grow our client-base in new regions and expand in Europe & North America. As a platform, to increase our reach, we are moving towards being

multi-lingual and launching sites in Chinese & Spanish. We are also targeting the younger audience who might have never attended events, but would be extremely critical in the future. On the user experience front, we are launching many new features to improve ROI that a user gets from attending an event. Things like a seamless calendar view to discover events would be game changing for us. Also, our lead capturing and management system for users, promises to make business cards redundant in near future. For the organizer, we have launched oDash, an all-in-one platform for event management to get all their tech solutions at one place. It offers very critical solutions like a custom event app, website, matching, communication management, feedback aggregation, to name a few. From a long-term perspective, we are working on AI & machine learning solutions to improve the overall platform performance and recommendation engine.
Interview ES - What is your opinion about the Indian Exhibition Industry? What are the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead? Atul - Indian Exhibition Industry is in a nascent stage with huge growth potential. We need to work together as an Industry to innovate and leverage our unique challenges. Instead of replicating the western and Chinese models, we need to create our own event formats to better serve the needs of Indian event goers. While venue and infrastructure is a huge challenge, we cannot sit back and just worry about solutions. There is no point blaming the government and the economic environment. Instead, we need to be futuristic in our approach, understand our audience, and build for the next few decades.
Industry? Atul - We need to ďŹ rst understand the importance of the exhibition space and how it is a driver of economic growth. The Germans and Chinese have built their economies around it. Global Exhibition industry is fast moving towards the philosophy of quality over quantity. There is no point have a huge crowd at an event, if the audience is not relevant. Exhibitors want ROI and better value from their event spend. Having said that, both exhibitors and visitors have a huge need for education and understanding how to maximize the value from the event. Global Exhibition Industries have taken many steps in this direction, and India needs to quickly catch-up. As an industry, Indian exhibition has a monumental opportunity in front. 10Times is willing to work and collaborate with all stakeholders from organisers to other tech companies to help make India a global hub in the event space.
ES - What can India learn from the global Exhibition

MEETINGS & EVENTS INDUSTRY RELEASES NEW ECONOMIC IMPACT DATA Key findings from a new report show how face-to-face meetings and business events support 5.9 million jobs and hundreds of billions of dollars in annual revenue
F
ace-to-face meetings and events play an integral role in bolstering U.S.A.'s national economy and key business sectors, according to a new report from Oxford Economics, commissioned by the Events Industry Council, and supported by the Meetings Mean Business Coalition and other industry partners. Data for the report was compiled through a nationwide survey of meeting planners, exhibitors and venues and represents almost 9,000 domestic business travelers, almost 50,000 international air travelers and 11,000 hotels. “Our report illustrates that the meetings and events industry continues to grow across all segments as it contributes hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue to the U.S. economy and supports 5.9 million jobs,” says Adam Sacks, founder and president of Tourism Economics, an Oxford Economics company. “Notably in 2016, meetings generated $325 billion of direct spending and $845 billion in business sales. These numbers represent a contribution of $446 billion in GDP and $104 billion of federal, state and local taxes. The total tax impact per household was $879 per U.S. household.” In total, 1.9 million meetings were held in 2016, with 251 million participants. On average, the direct spending associated with 43 meeting participants
supported one U.S. job, including both direct and indirect impacts. Meetings supported more direct jobs than many large manufacturing sectors, including machinery, food, auto, and chemicals. It sustained more jobs than the telecommunications and oil and gas extraction industries as well. The cumulative economic impact of face-to-face meetings and events is hard to deny. Results show that every dollar spent on face-to-face meetings and events generates an additional $1.60 – or 160 percent – in benefits for the U.S. economy. Direct spending on meetings expanded 23 percent between 2009 and
2016, primarily due to increases in the number of meeting participants. “There's been a critical need for information quantifying the significance of face-toface meetings and business events to the U.S. economy,” says Susan Robertson, executive vice president of the American Society of Association Executives and chair of the Events Industry Council. “Hosting an event, convention or trade show brings new revenue to industries across the country. So many people and companies beyond the scope of the events industry itself benefit from its reach.” Business services was the industry most impacted by meetings in 2016, with $196.3 billion in total economic output. The finance, insurance, and real estate industry followed with
$141.1 billion in total economic output, followed by the manufacturing industry with $92.6 billion in total output. Other industries that were positively impacted by face-to-face meetings and events include: Ÿ Food & Beverage: Meeting organizers and hosts spent $48 billion to provide food and beverage services at meetings. Ÿ Hotels & Lodging: Meetings generated 300 million room nights annually, representing nearly $50 billion of spending on accommodations. Ÿ Travel & Tourism: Meetings-related travel expenses represented 13.2 percent of total travel and tourism spending in the U.S. “This new research confirms that our industry plays a critical role in connecting people and bolstering crucial segments of our national economy,” says Paul Van Deventer, president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International and co-chair of the Meetings Mean Business Coalition. “The numbers reiterate what anecdotally we always knew to be true – no matter the industry, investing in face-to-face meetings is a smart choice.”
The Events Industry Council is comprised of more than 30 event industry associations representing more than 103,500 individuals and 19,500 organizations involved in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. The council facilitates the exchange of information develops programs to promote professionalism within the industry and educates the public on its profound economic impact.

COBO CONVENTION CENTRE – SERVING THE COMMUNITY
A
s the sun rose over the Detroit River on the morning of May 23, employees, event attendees and members of the Detroit community helped jumpstart Cobo Center's 2018 community engagement series, Cobo Cars with “Sunrise Riverfront Yoga,” held on the outdoor terrace of Cobo's Grand Riverview Ballroom. Launched in 2017 as part of Cobo's commitment to social responsibility and sustainability, Cobo Cares offers free exercise, networking and community engagement opportunities for the local downtown community, facility employees and onsite event attendees. Ongoing during the spring, summer and fall seasons, activities including Zumba, yoga and Tai Chi are coupled with opportunities to give back to local non-profits such as Forgotten Harvest and COTS that support those in need in the Detroit area. Agencies are given opportunities to be present at the events and engage people who are interested in their mission. “Providing a place for employees and visitors to celebrate and embrace the
Detroit community is inherent in the mission of a convention center to be an economic engine for cities,” explained Claude Molinari, general manager of Cobo Center/SMG. He continued, “As more and more large events are looking for ways to be sustainable and give back to their host communities, Cobo Cares provides a structure and resources for events to easily access and ensure the success of these goals.”During the season's first Slow Burn/Basics yoga session, provided by local yoga studio, Citizen Yoga, Cobo also accepted donations for Bees in the D, a local honeybee education and protection nonprofit that maintains four hives on the facility's. living green roof At the time of this event, the Society for Freshwater Science was having its annual meeting in Cobo and partnered with the facility for the Cobo Cares season kick off. Other free events for this year's Cobo Cares season so far have included “Find Your Center Yoga,” held July 9 by Citizen Yoga, with donations made to Life
Remodeled, a Detroit agency that helps rebuild local neighborhoods. Upcoming events include “Zumba with Ivy,” scheduled for July 19, with donations to benefit Detroit Little Libraries, an agency that places booksharing boxes where they can be a catalyst for improving reading motivation and deepening community connectedness. More free events will be scheduled into the fall season, according to Cobo officials. All Cobo Cares activities are conducted on the venue's outdoor terrace, Cobo Square, in view of the 4,000 square-foot marquee digital sign that is sometimes incorporated into the festivities in creative and interactive ways. In case of inclement weather, the events are held indoors at the Cobo Center atrium. According to Molinari, credit for the success of the year-old community engagement program goes to the convention center's dedicated Green Committee, which works to promote sustainability practices and green initiatives in the facility.
