The Indian Exhibition Industry is at a nascent stage compared to the other countries like Germany, USA, UK, China etc. For instance, China has around five times larger exhibition industry than India has. India has around 13 exhibition centres and exhibitions predominantly happen in Delhi and Mumbai followed by Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahemadabad, Chennai and Kolkatta. Of these, Delhi and Mumbai witness over 70% of Exhibitions and the rest is spread across other cities. If you see, every city in Germany has its state of the art exhibition and convention centre. These exhibition centres help generate lot of income for the state, raise skilled and non-skilled employment and generate a lot of business impact for a number of allied industries like Hotels, Hospitality, Cabs, Logistics, Security, advertising, manpower agencies, catering, interior designing, structure manufacturers, event management firms and many more. Since exhibition industry impacts lot of other industries as mentioned above, it is often termed as a catalyst to an economy's growth. Exhibitions are a reflection of the state of an economy. If you observe carefully, there is a direct co-relation between the state of country's GDP and its Exhibition Industry. In India, over 700 organized trade shows were held last year. Exhibition Industry generates around 10,000 crore rupees of direct business for the economy. Its overall impact in terms of business facilitated would go beyond 100 thousand crores of rupees. Adding to it, exhibitions generate employment for Skilled, Semi-Skilled and even unskilled workforce and for a county like India, this is a big plus. Exhibitions play a significant role in generating National and International Trade for an economy. India has a massive task ahead for reaching its ambitious target of 900 billion dollars in its foreign trade policy by year 2020 and exhibitions will have to play a very critical role to help reach this landmark figure. Exhibitions will also play a vital role in the Honourable PM’s National Agenda of Make in India, Skill India and Smart City Campaign. The make in India programme can be hugely benefited by employing exhibitions as a tool to spread the message across the world. Similarly, skill development centres should be deployed to generate skilled manpower for the events and exhibition industry. And lastly, each smart city must have infrastructure provisions for a state of the art exhibition and convention centre that will hugely benefit the city in the times to come. Despite the odds, Indian Exhibition Industry is growing steadily and is expected to grow at the rate of 15% annually for the next five years. It is witnessing lot of start ups too who are introducing technology solutions to this conventional industry. All said, despite the visible benefits it provides to an economy, the exhibitions have not been accorded an industry status in India. Maybe its time that the government realises the need to provide this industry with tax benefits and other fringe benefits to encourage this blooming sector.

The cooperation comes at the right time because the demand for electronic goods are expected to reach USD 400billion by 2020. So the Indian government's initiatives to promote manufacturing and investment in this sector puts India high on the list of potential places to invest. Established in 1967, ELCINA has been India's first industrial association supporting the electronic components sector and has a membership base of over 300 companies. It advises the Indian government on policy and business environment issues for the electronics industry. ELCINA also focuses on promoting the manufacturing of electronic components, electronic parts, raw materials, Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) for segments such as Consumer Electronics, IT, Telecommunications Industry, Defence Electronics, Industrial Electronics, Medical, Automobile, Security, Lighting, Electronic Design, Embedded Systems and more.
electronica India and productronica India are India's and South Asia's leading trade fairs for electronic components, systems, applications and production technologies. Mr. Vikram Desai, President of ELCINA, expressed satisfaction on the partnership between ELCINA and Messe München India and said, “There was an urgent need to promote 'Brand India' in electronics and find new opportunities enabling rapid growth of manufacturing. ELCINA's and Messe München India's partnership will promote and achieve this objective.” In the words of Mr. Rajoo Goel, Secretary General of ELCINA, “We are very pleased to form a strategic partnership with Messe München
India. The trade fairs, electronica India and productronica India are the leading trade fairs for the electronics industry that are well attended by decision- and reform-makers. This will be a win-win partnership for ELCINA, Messe München India and the entire electronics industry. We are sure that we will synergize to develop opportunities for the Indian and global companies to collaborate at electronica India and productronica India.” This year, electronica India and productronica India stand larger than the previous edition of Bengaluru. electronica India has been fully booked seven months prior to the commencement of the trade fair. The space for productronica India is filling fast. International players and market leaders from different continents will be exhibiting. Visitors will profit from the valuable synergies which result from the stronger international representation and a broader range of products with the increased exhibition space. Mrs. Nicole Schmitt, Director Exhibition Group, Messe München
said, “Under the flagship program 'Make in India', many foreign electronics manufacturers have established their manufacturing base in India. With ELCINA as our strategic partner there will be high interest by the global electronics industry to look at India as an investment destination.” Further, Mr. Bhupinder Singh, CMO & Member of the Management Board, Messe München India added, “This partnership will not only promote Indian manufacturing but will also aim to bridge the gap between policy makers (government) and manufacturers (exhibitors) by bringing the electronics eco-system at a single largest platform.” Parallel to the trade fairs, there will be first-rate accompanying programs, Buyer-Seller meetings and Business to Government (B2G) forums. ELCINA and Messe München India will bring new initiatives such as 'India PCB Tech, 'CEO Forum and 'ELCINA Startup Pavilion' (exclusive for ELCINA members) to the trade fairs. The trade fairs will take place from 21 – 23 September 2016 at BIEC, Bengaluru.

Big data is the big buzz term doing the rounds these days. IS BIG DATA REALLY NEW ? Exhibition Showcase talks to Y Mukund Rao..
B
ig data is a term for data sets that are so large or complex that traditional data processing applications are inadequate. Challenges include analysis, capture, data curation, search, sharing, storage, transfer, visualization, querying. Our industry, the exhibition industry is, has been and will always be “data” centric. Space marketer needs focussed data, visitor promotion requires focus data. Space marketing data we believe is still easily available from various sources associations, ask me's, printed directories.etc Organisers create visitor data from scratch. Visitor data is a cumulative effort of Exhibitor's sending out invites, advertisement in niche magazines, advertisement in mainline mediums, outdoor advertising, radio, road shows, television as well. The visitor “BIG DATA” responsibility thereon is the registration agencies responsibility. Big data – Big data Analytics – Real Time Analytics is the big flow. 20 Exhibition Showcase I June 2016
Big data analytics is the process of examining large data sets containing a variety of data types -- i.e., big data -to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations, market trends, customer preferences and other useful business information. An organiser wants more - Big Analytics real time. Let's keep in mind that actionable metrics help us make better business decisions. We should take the same approach to real-time metrics: actionable, there are benefits to having access to data within minutes of an event happening. You can have timely access to data that can save time, money, or reputation and help take better business decisions . It also enables to Predict popular product trend amongst your exhibitor display in real time. BIG DATA will be the key differentiator and fuel the need for faster, more honed metrics which in turn will be the driving force for the exhibition Industry. T
he Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, has announced the winners of its annual Sustainable Development Award. This year's competition theme was “Best actions to engage participants around sustainability” and the jury selected two winners: the American Chemical Society (ACS) for its National Meetings & Expositions, and the Taiwan External Trade Development C o u n c i l ( TA I T R A ) f o r M E E T TAIWAN's “Green MICE Project”. UFI's objective when setting this year's theme was to recognise initiatives that spread knowledge, enhance attendee experience, and educate and inspire participants on sustainability, both at and beyond the event.
The American Chemical Society organised two events in 2015 that attracted nearly 27,000 professionals. In addition to their “Greener Meetings Program”, which focuses on three key initiatives (calculating and offsetting their carbon footprint, increasing attendee engagement, and collaborating with event partners to improve performance), AC S developed five specific solutions to engage participants around sustainability. These are: the use of social media, tree planting offsets, mobile applications, the Greener Meetings Pledge, and Sci-Mix events. T h e Ta i w a n E x t e r n a l Tr a d e Development Council has been developing its Green MICE project
of MEET TAIWAN to inspire every segment of the Taiwan MICE value chain. Their project involves three steps: build awareness on the importance of green and sustainable principles, inspire the stakeholders to take real action for sustainability, and encourage the industry to meet global standards. Each of these steps is proving to be very successful. Dianne Young, President of the UFI Sustainable Development Award
jury and CEO of the Exhibition Place (Toronto, Canada), said: “Both entries deserve to win given the scope of their actions and the scale of their results. The jury would also like to recognise quality of the entries of the three other finalists: Informa (UK) for the variety of actions conducted at the Greenbuild show, RAI Amsterdam for their “Heart-warming Amsterdam” catering concept and UBM EMEA for their Sustainable Stand Awards and Charity Partnerships initiatives.” Va n e s s a L . We have been able to learn from collaborating with all types of vendors and venues in the best cities around the US and most importantly, our attendees. We continue to embrace that spirit of learning about best practices when it comes to event sustainability. We know our journey is not yet over and look forward to improving our efforts year after year. We believe our efforts will play a part in catalysing the meetings and events industry towards a more sustainable world.”

CCA captured a record number of 12,076 rotating international association meetings taking place in 2015; the largest number of association meetings collected in the year after the meetings took place ever, and 571 additional meetings compared to 2014. These numbers reconfirm the consistent growth pattern in the association meetings market as identified in ICCA's 50-year report (publicly available on w w w. i c c a 5 0 . c o m ) . T h e I C C A Association Database now includes 20,000 regularly occurring meeting series, 220,000 meeting editions and 11,500 international associations.
CITY RANKINGS: Berlin new number one Berlin climbs 3 places and is the new number one city, at the cost of Paris, which took number one spot last year and is now second. Even though the order is quite different, the top seven is made up of the same cities as last year. Barcelona climbs 2 places and is third and Vienna drops 2 places and is now fourth. London climbs 1 place and is now number ď€ ve, together with Madrid, which dropped 2 places. Singapore remains seventh. Istanbul climbs 1 place to eighth. Lisbon and Copenhagen are newcomers in the top ten, both climbing 3 places to ninth and tenth respectively.

SECOND TIER CITIES ARE GROWING FASTER In the city ranking, the “winners are the cities with the smallest losses, or with a very small growth; new number one city Berlin has only 2 more meetings compared to 2014, while Paris has 28 meetings less than in 2014, Vienna has 24 and Madrid 29 less. Barcelona is 2 down and London is 5 up and Madrid is 29 down. Since the total number of meetings in 2015 has increased, this means that the meetings are more equally spread out amongst destinations, and r e l a t i v e l y s m a l l e r, s e c o n d t i e r destinations are becoming more and more successful at attracting association meetings.
industry publications. Due to lack of global figures on other meeting segments, they are often mistakenly perceived as the destination rankings for the meetings industry as a whole, even though they only cover a narrow segment of the total meetings market: To be included, meetings must be organised by associations, must be held on a regular basis, have at least 50 delegates, and rotate between at least three countries. Whilst these ICCA rankings provide some evidence of a city or country's relative performance, it is only when all data on all the meetings taking place in a destination are consi-
dered - corporate, intergovernmental, non-rotating, etc - that a true, complete picture can be seen. ICCA always advises its members to collect their own statistics on all meetings they organise, and provide a full picture on their performance.
COUNTRY RANKINGS: United Kingdom climbs to number 3 The top 9 countries all remain in that top echelon, with USA retaining top ranking and Germany strengthening 2nd place. United Kingdom climbs 1 place to number three at the cost of Spain which drops 1 place. France, Italy, Japan and China-P.R. retain respectively 5th – 8th place. The Netherlands climbs 1 place, now sharing 8th place with China, and Canada is the only newcomer in the top 10. As one of the very few reports which compares destinations' meetingsrelated performance on a global scale, the annual ICCA rankings are one of the most eagerly anticipated

as Vegas is a famous city in the United States, and the most populous city in the state of Nevada. The city bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, and is famous for its mega casino–hotels and associated entertainment. Las Vegas is also a popular setting for films, television programs, and music videos. The city is one of the top three leading destinations in the United States for conventions, business, and meetings. Las Vegas holds the honor of being the No. 1 tradeshow destination in North America for 21 years running for hosting 60 of the largest 250 trade shows. Las Vegas hosts nearly 6 million business delegates and nearly 22,000 individual meetings and conventions annually. In addition, the city's metropolitan area has more AAA Five Diamond hotels than any other city in the world, and is a global leader in the hospitality industry. Today, Las Vegas is rated as one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
Las Vegas is generally used to describe not just the city itself, but areas beyond the city limits—especially the resort areas on and near the Las Vegas Strip- and the Las Vegas Valley.
WEATHER Las Vegas averages 320 days of sunshine per year and averages less than five inches of precipitation annually. This warm, dry climate is attractive for meetings throughout the year.
TRANSPORTATION In many cases, the close proximity of Las Vegas hotels eliminates the need for transportation as delegates can walk to many destinations. When transportation is required, however, Las Vegas offers many options including bus, taxi, shuttles and the country's first automated monorail. A bus rapid-transit link in Las Vegas called the Strip & Downtown Express (previously ACE Gold Line with limited stops and frequent service was

LAS VEGAS CONVENTION AND VISITORS AUTHORITY ( LVCVA) LVCVA is the official destination marketing organization of Las Vegas, and promotes tourism, conventions, meetings and special events. To promote the tourism sector that powers the Southern Nevada economy, the LVCVA is charged with and committed to building and protecting the Las Vegas brand among its diverse audiences of current and potential visitors. LVCVA's mission focuses on attracting everincreasing numbers of leisure and business visitors to the area. HISTORY OF THE LVCVA Las Vegas has long been a favorite recreation destination for millions of visitors. In the early 1950s, however, community leaders realized that the cyclical nature of tourism caused a significant decline in the number of visitors during the weekdays, throughout the summer months and over the Christmas season. A new market was identified in order to attract more visitors to the area during the slow periods - convention attendees.
Visionary elected officials, convinced that convention business was crucial to the growth of the city, went before the Nevada State Legislature to ask for funding. In 1955, the State Legislature agreed to finance the Clark County Fair and Recreation Board (the precursor to the LVCVA) with moneys acquired from a room tax levied on hotel and motel properties in Clark County. This revenue, paid for by tourists and not by local residents, allowed the Las Vegas Convention Center to be constructed and operate without any tax assessment on Clark County residents, and allowed the LVCVA to begin a program of destination marketing. On April 29, 1959, the Las Vegas Convention Center officially opened with a 20,340-square-foot rotunda, 18 meeting rooms and a 90,000-squarefoot exhibit hall. In its first year of operation, the LVCVA hosted eight conventions that were attended by 22,519 delegates. Now, Las Vegas regularly hosts more than 22,000 conventions and meetings attended by nearly 5.2 million delegates annually. The LVCVA is unlike a typical convention and visitors bureau in that it is not a membership-based o r g a n i z a t i o n . T h e LV C VA i s a g o v e r n m e n t a l a g e n c y. I t w a s

LAS VEGAS CONVENTION CENTER The Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), located adjacent to the Las Vegas Strip, encompasses approximately 3.2 million square feet with exhibit space of 2 million square feet and meeting space of nearly 250,000 square feet. The facility is one of the busiest centers in the world - centrally located within three miles of over 100,000 guest rooms. A grand lobby and registration area (more than 225,000 square feet) efficiently link existing exhibit halls with new exhibit and meeting rooms, and allow simultaneous set-up, breakdown and exhibiting of multiple events. In 2012, the Las Vegas Convention Center received AIPC Gold Certification from the International Association of Convention Centers. The AIPC reviewed the organization's management practices, policies, procedures and customer service. In addition, they rated facility performance measures, financial accountability, economic impacts, security, emergency response, financial integrity; employee, supplier and community relations, communications and environmental responsibility.
