Amer Fort Jaipur
An Epitome of Rajputana Grandeur
Amer Fort, also known as
Amber Fort and one of India’s most iconic structures, is an UNESCO World Heritage Site . Located in Amer, a town about 11 kilometers from Jaipur, Rajasthan, Amer Fort sits atop a hill and is a dazzling testament to the grandeur and richness of Indian history, art, and culture. Commissioned in 1592 by Maharaja Man Singh I, the fort is a fine blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles, and boasts a grand palace, temples and several ornate gates. The palace was the residence of the Rajput Maharajas and their families
Constructed of red sandstone and
marble, the palace is laid out on four levels, each with a courtyard. It consists of the Diwan-e-Aam, or "Hall of Public Audience", the Diwan-e-Khas, or "Hall of Private Audience", the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), or Jai Mandir, and the Sukh Niwas where a cool climate is artificially created by winds that blow over a water cascade within the palace. Hence, the Amer Fort is also popularly known as the Amer Palace. At the entrance to the palace near the fort's Ganesh Gate, there is a temple dedicated to Shila Devi, a Goddess of the Chaitanya cult, which was given to Raja Man Singh when he defeated the Raja of Jessore, Bengal in 1604.
DESTINATIONS
Suraj Pol faces east and therefore, witnesses the sunrise in the morning
As you arrive at the Amer Fort, you will enter through the Suraj Pol; unless you arrive by car, then you enter via the Chand Pol. Both these gates open into the Jaleb Chowk, which is the main courtyard, where in earlier times, returning armies used to display their plunder to the people. The fort has a number of sections, including the King’s quarters, the zenana (where the women lived), gardens, temples, etc. A stairway from the first courtyard leads to the second courtyard which housed the Diwan-eAm and the Diwan-e-Khas, i.e., the House of the commons and the House of the officials respectively
As you enter from the Tripolia gate, located in the western part of the fort, the Zanana Dyodhi can be witnessed. This area is intentionally secluded from the rest of the fort. Zanana Dyodhi was the residence of the queens, their mothers, and their attendants. This structure was constructed in a unique way
Sheesh Mahal or the mirrored palace is one of the most popular attractions here that draws the largest number of tourists. It is adorned with fine marble work and mirror inlaid designs on ceilings and walls. It is said that at night, as earthen lamps flickered
inside the hall, the numerous mirrors reflected the light, creating the atmosphere of a start-lit sky
Amber Fort is one the major tourist attractions of Jaipur. One can avail either the day or the night tour
Another interesting activity during the night tours is attending the light and sound show. You move away from the fort and are seated at a location which is rightly distanced from the fort to give you a complete view of it. The light and sound show includes the local folklores, tales and myths and slowly accelerate to the history of the fort itself. It reads the chronicles of the kings and the sagas of the wars that were fought.

Soaring passenger traffic, longer stays in Europe:
Mastercard Economics Institute on travel in 2024
The travel sector in 2024 is breaking boundaries. Through March 2024, market-wide consumer spending on travel is robust with significant increases in passenger traffic, according to the latest global report from the Mastercard Economics Institute. Released recently, “Travel Trends 2024” provides comprehensive insights into the evolving landscape of the travel industry across 74 markets, including Europe
Drawing on a unique analysis of aggregated and anonymized transaction data, including Mastercard SpendingPulse™, and third-party data sources, the report takes a deep dive into key travel trends in Europe for the year and beyond, including:
Tourism continues to outperform in European countries, partly driven by Americans
The travel industry in Europe shines as one of the most resilient sectors within the European economy. The number of overnight stays in Europe totaled 2 91 billion stays in 2023, compared to 2.88 billion in 2019. The significance of US tourists has also risen in Europe: US share of arrivals in Spain rose from 4% in 2019 to 5% in 2023, in Portugal from 6% to 9%, in the UK from 13% to 16%.
Trending
destinations in Europe.
In Europe, Munich ranks as the top trending destination for this summer (JuneAugust 2024)4 as the city is set to host a major global sporting event in June. This is followed by Tirana (Albania), Nice (France),Kerkyra/Corfu (Greece), and Istanbul (Turkey). In 2024, the cheaper seaside destinations of Albania, Croatia and Turkey are registering among the highest growth in flight traffic. Tourism in Albania has grown particularly strongly, with the number of flight routes doubling since 2019 and tourist arrivals rising from 12 million in 2019 to 17 million in 2023.
Top luxury vs budget destinations
More than half of the 20 priciest summer destinations in Europe are in Italy. Along the Adriatic Sea, Taormina, Rimini or several beach towns near Venice are hotspots, including San Michele al Tagliamento, Jesolo, Caorle or Lignano. French villages in Cote d’Azur (Ramatuelle, Saint-Tropez and Cannes) have earned their places in the top 20 luxurious destinations
The most affordable international summer destinations are capital cities such as Bucharest, Warsaw, Budapest, Prague and Spanish beaches (Costa Brava, Costa Del Sol) The shoulder season Tourists in Europe are shifting away from peak summer (July-August) towards “shoulder” months (May-June and September-October) The share of
overnight stays in the European Union during shoulder season increased 1 8 percentage points over the last decade. This shift makes continued growth in European travel possible as peak summer hits capacity constraints
The countries with the biggest shift away from peak summer months include Mediterranean countries like Croatia, Greece, Portugal and Italy
However, even northern countries like Denmark, Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands have seen a shift away from peak summer months
Leisure for longer
Tourists in Europe have spent two extra days on vacation on average –which is higher than the global average of one extra day per trip- with the trend driven by affordable destinations and warmer climates. For each extra 6 degrees Celsius of temperature, the estimated increase in length of stay is approximately 1 day
Experience economy on the go
Consumers have prioritized meaningful experiences over material goods, even when traveling. Spending on experiences now totals 12% of tourism sales, according to SpendingPulse Destinations which measures in-store and online retail sales across all forms of payment - the highest point in at least five years as of March 2024. UK travelers tend to spend one of every six dollars on experiences and nightlife, compared to the global average, which is closer to one in every 10 dollars Finally, European cities, including London, Paris, Barcelona, Spain, Dublin, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Portugal, Rome and Copenhagen, Denmark have the most vibrant nightlife scene in the summer

IHG Hotels & Resorts launches industry first 'Low Carbon Pioneers' programme
IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global
leader in hospitality, has announced the launch of its Low Carbon Pioneers programme, which brings together energy efficient hotels that have no fossil fuels combusted onsite and are backed by renewable energy. This group of low operational carbon hotels is the first community of its kind in the industry and will help IHG test, learn and share findings on sustainability measures. The ambition is to inspire other properties to join the programme and also help encourage wider adoption of carbon reduction practices across IHG's estate. The first Low Carbon Pioneer hotels span different IHG brands and locations at these properties:
Ÿ Holiday Inn Express Madrid Airport, Spain
Ÿ Iberostar Waves Cristina, Spain
Ÿ Kimpton BEM Budapest, Hungary
Each Low Carbon Pioneer hotel will feature sustainable solutions such as high-efficiency heat pumps for heating and hot water generation, as well as fully electric kitchens. Every property will also have an operational sustainability certification recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, such as Green Key, or a sustainable building certification, such as LEED, BREEAM or EDGE. To track and measure their energy data, Low Carbon Pioneer hotels will use IHG's Green Engage environmental platform. Additional hotels will join the Low Carbon Pioneers programme across all regions and IHG is also developing a "low-carbon ready" group of hotels in preparation for when it becomes possible to fully back all energy with renewables in
countries or districts where this is not currently available
Guests seeking more sustainable stays will find hotels marketed as low carbon or low carbon ready across IHG's booking channels to make it clear which ones are energy efficient, have no fossil fuels combusted on-site and are backed by renewable energy. With almost all IHG's top global corporate accounts setting net-zero or carbonneutral targets, these hotels will be attractive to corporate clients looking to meet their own sustainable travel commitments. Energy efficient, lower operational carbon hotels can also provide potential future benefits to owners, such as greater alignment with environmental regulatory changes and better access to green finance for new projects

TMS. In your opinion, what are the key opportunities for growth and development in the business tourism sector, and how can they be effectively leveraged?
India has taken a big leap in the MICE sector, thanks to the following developments :
1. India’s economy has bounced back faster than the world, post-covid, and has emerged as the fastest growing economy. Travel and tourism have also staged a big come back and promise to grow much faster than ever, in the coming times. And the good news is that with the huge investments in building infrastructure being made by the Govt, it is the Business and MICE travel segments which will benefit the most.
five years.
5. Ministry of Tourism has an ambitious plan for setting up of a National Advisory Council for MICE in order to provide an overall vision and strategic direction for the growth of MICE in the Country.
Despite a highly favourable and positive MICE tourism friendly environment in India today, there are many areas which require greater focus by Govt and all stakeholders, to further leverage business and MICE tourism in India. Effective and coordinated marketing of India as MICE destination will take business tourism to greater heights.
There is an urgent need to rationalise high tax structure and costs in the MICE business in India, involving Hotels, Exhibition Centres and Convention Centres. Govt should also consider giving greater institutional support to ICPB, the premiere national bureau of MICE, by empowering it with more financial resources and by providing greater financial and administrative autonomy.
2. An analysis of the world market shows that there is saturation in the matured markets of the US and Europe and now Asia-Pacific is emerging as the next destination in the global business tourism market. And ,India of course would be a big gainer.
3. The G20 meetings held under India’s Presidency have not only acted as a pivotal platform for the country but also brought forth a windfall for its tourism sector, particularly in the MICE segment. With over 200 meetings, the G20 in India showcased the country’s ability to host global events while reaping the rewards of a thriving tourism industry. Moreover, Ministry of Tourism has selected and earmarked the 57 locations where the G20 meetings took place ,for dedicated promotion as MICE tourism destinations.
4. The National Strategy plan for MICE, prepared by the Ministry aims to enhance India’s share in the MICE business to 2% and enhance India’s ICCA ranking to the top 20 in
