Messages for EEA 2017 Message From Publisher Raghav Khosla It fills my heart with great joy to welcome you all to the Exhibition Excellence Awards 2017 – First & only initiative of its kind for the Indian Exhibition Industry. Exhibition Excellence Awards, today, have become a mega initiative for the Indian Exhibition & Convention Industry, with a global visibility. We at Exhibition Showcase, are extremely passionate to promote this wonderful industry and I am glad that the entire fraternity has supported us in this endeavour. The Exhibition Excellence Awards have been designed to honour the true champions of the industry. EEA 2017 will serve as a great platform to connect, recognize & celebrate the achievements of year 2016. There are over 38 award categories for Exhibition Organizers, PCO's, Venues and Service Providers, so as to identify and honour excellence on as many significant & diverse parameters. That is because we believe that success in tradeshows cannot be measured only on a couple of parameters. At EEA 2017, we have tried to honour not just the big and the grand in terms of just the numbers, but also the ones who have the courage to explore this industry in small cities, who keep professional conferences at their shows, who integrate technology well, who may be small but are growing in percentage, who have significant foreign participation and similarly on so many more diverse parameters. And this is because we want the industry to come out of its shell, & blossom like a beautiful flower. We want to play a small part in encouraging the men and women of this industry, from all parts of the country, who have dedicated their years of hard work into it!! I am also pleased to present to you the India Exhibition Directory 2017, which has detailed list of upcoming events, service providers and trade associations in India. Our team has been striving tirelessly for making valuable contributions to the Indian Exhibition industry. I am thankful to industry associations who have stood beside us through thick and thin to make this initiative possible. Here, I would like to especially mention special thanks to IEIA, IESA, ICPB, UFI & IAEE, who being industry associations, came forward to support this initiative. I would also like to thank our sponsors and partners who have supported us. Without their support, this event would not have been possible. It's the industry only which must come out to support such initiatives and I am so glad that it did! We have tried our best to promote the initiative across a wide spectrum of relevant audiences. I thank our media partners who have given us great coverage and visibility. The event will also be broadcast on Well Known National News television channel – Zee Business. I would request you all to please spread the word about this initiative, in your own respective individual capacity as well. I hope that our efforts bring a smile to your face. If you would like to share your feedback or give us any comments then please feel free to write to me at raghav@exhibitionshowcase.com. I will be happy to hear from you.

The organizing of such events and at such grand level will certainly deliver the parameter, processes and practices to foster the means to achieve National Mission “Make in India. The Exhibition Industry in India over last couple of years has witness a positive trend both as buyer and as seller and according to sources (unconfirmed) this industry in India has crossed an economic magnitude of more than Rs. 120000 crore and is expected to grow at moderate growth rate of 15% annually till 2020 against a potential growth rate of 30% to 35% and the same may be achieved by removing road blocks like current practice of clearance from multiple agencies; delay in customer clearance, lack of modern infrastructure and large exhibition areas; visa issue compliances and above all issues and challenges related of marketing branding and promotion.Globally the year 2016 has shown very positive outlook for new exhibition markets in North America, the US, Mexico, Europe (other than Germany and Italy) Asia Pacific region (China and Thailand), middle east and South Africa, where as traditional markets like Germany, Italy and Russia have shown a Southward trends (as per the 18th edition of UFI Barometer). The very purpose of citing this statistics is to showcase that new markets with innovative practices are leading & having a cutting edge over the traditional exhibition markets like Germany, Italy & Russia and such grand events like Exhibition Showcase provide one platform to so many great player to come together and learn best practices from each other to make India, a leader in Exhibition Business. In one go, all the architects, specifiers, contractors, consultants, developers, can see the solutions for the integrated building under one roof. I think it was a vision of these industry associations to come together and create this banner and I also think that this mission has been achieved very well. In the last 3 days we witnessed more than 40,000 visitors and IEML, Greater Noida has been a perfect venue for the show. I think all of us also need to understand that a show of such large square metres need a world class space as venue in India and IEML was a perfect venue for the Delhi edition. Similarly, next year we are moving to another excellent platform that is the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre which will be able to accommodate this big alliance. And this rotational phenomenon of the show among 3 cities - Delhi, Bangalore & Mumbai will create a new story for the Exhibition Industry in India. And it's time to realise that India has the potential to organise such huge shows.”

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW Mr. Rakesh Kumar

Executive Director - Export Promotion Council of Handicrafts & Chairman – India Expo Mart 1. Can you give us a glimpse into how and when you started? A. When we had started, way back in 1994, with the show – Indian Handicraft & Gift Fair, there were not many shows, which accommodated the overseas buyers too. Our show had started in a lot of uncertainty because the exhibitors were unable to believe that such a show is possible here in India. Also, such shows were only being organized in places such as Frankfurt, Germany, Paris, US & Hong Kong. At that time the Exhibition Industry was very fragmented and there were only a few major organizers like ITPO that used to organize as well as provide venue for events. With our new show, we introduced the idea that India can invite the overseas buyers to purchase products that are produced here. The moment this concept was materialized, lot of new players joined in. 2. What is the contribution of the Indian Handicraft Industry in the economy and what is the impact of your shows on the industry. A. The Indian Handicraft Sector is one of the largest employment provider sector to the small and weaker sector of the society. The exports of handicrafts during the latest period April – January 2016-17 have registered a growth of 13.06% in rupee terms and stands at Rs. 20282.18 crores. 43rd Edition of IHGF generated business enquiries worth Rs. 1700 crores this year. 3. Can you recount an incidence when you and your team avoided a crisis situation at your show because of swift and excellent management? A. There have been many challenges but I can quickly recount two incidences when during the time of our show, Plague epidemic had erupted in the state of Gujarat. Similarly, in another incident the Gulf War had broke out some time around our show. The news of both these incidences had gone viral internationally, badly affecting the movement of people across countries. In both the cases, we had to take a decision whether to go ahead with the show or call it off. And we decided to go ahead with the show because we strongly believe that the show must go on! And Alas, our show emerged victorious!! 4. Coming back to Indian Expo Mart, what is your take on the kind of progress and fast pace at which it is growing,? A. The India Expo Centre & Mart has become one of the favourite venues of the MICE industry members. This is not just because of the facilities that the venue offers but a lot of credit goes to the passionate team working behind it including the VP – Mr. Sudeep Sarcar and every one else, even at the ground level. We are constantly working on the venue to make it the best in every way and we consider that in the future we will surpass all records as far as the MICE requirements are concerned. 5. Can you please give some hints of your work routine? A. I don many hats. As I am entrusted with many responsibilities at higher levels of organization including IEML & EPCH. I have many roles to play and many duties to fulfill each day. Along with that I am also a part of IEIA. Therefore, my schedules are tight and to the extent that sometimes the meetings overlap. But I need to set priorities depending upon which my day starts at 9 am and ends when I reach home after completion of all the set work or most of it. 6. What is your feedback about the Exhibition Excellence Awards Initiative? A. Every industry recognizes the achievement of its members. But there were no such awards in the Indian Exhibition Industry. And Exhibition Excellence Awards organized by Exhibition Showcase is one such award that has gained its popularity in a very short time. The first edition was very successful and I am sure that Exhibition Showcase will bring many more laurels to this achievement.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW Mr. Ashish Rakheja Chairman - ISHRAE 1. Please tell us about you and your role in your company. A. My name is Ashish Rakheja. I am the Chairman for Acrex India 2017 and I am a part of the ISHRAE team (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating, Air-Conditioning Engineers). 2. Please tell us something about the show. A. ACREX is one of the largest HVAC&R here in India. This show has been around since 1990. This is the 18th edition of ACREX INDIA and we hold it every year. The show rotates between three cities – Delhi, Mumbai & Bangalore. The show has been growing constantly and this year it has surpassed all previous records. We have a total of 3.5 lakh sqft. of exhibition space taken by ACREX India. 3. 18th Edition of the show. How has the show grown so far? A. When we had started in 1990s, it was a very modest beginning. And over the years, the show has grown acceptance. Internationally it is counted among one of the 6 largest shows in the world on HVAC&R. It has taken India on the global map in terms of Air-Conditioning. So people from all over the world come here and attend the exposition. So we know the show has grown. And we have nearly 500 companies which are exhibiting which is a record because previously we had around 400 companies, so we see a 20% growth. 4. We have 5 shows going at the same venue. So what do you have to say about that? A. ISHRAE started a new concept called Build Fair Alliance (BFA) this year because we realised that there are too many trade shows which are happening. And we believe this can lead to something like a 'show-fatigue' among the visitors because there are too many shows to go to. The entire building industry is converging today. So looking at the concept ISHRAE came out with Build Fair Alliance where we have five shows – ACREX India, FSIE, ISH India, Fensterbau Frontale India 2017 and Glasspro, happening together. The response has been unprecedented for us. Never before have we had 3 days of visitors pouring in because this was a B2B show. So looking at the number of visitors we had even at the time when we are just one hour away from closing of the show. The Build Fair Alliance concept has worked out very well. 5. What impact do your shows have in terms of business generated? A. Every year we have several business opportunities that happen out here. We also call ACREX as the gateway for the international markets because we have country pavilions and people from all over the world come here. 30 percent of exhibitors are international. So this is where the Indian community gets connected with international community.

We are launching these shows one-by-one in India. One of such event is GLASSPEX INDIA which is India's one of the leading events for Glass Industry. 2. Kindly tell us more about GLASSPEX INDIA 2017 show. A. GLASSPEX INDIA is an international exhibition for Glass – production, processing and products. And this year we have around 150 exhibitors out of which more than 70% are international companies because the technology in India is coming from Europe, China and many other parts of the world. 3. What are the highlights of the show this year? A. This year we have launched a new segment – the GLASSPRO which is an event exclusively for the glass products. We are doing this event under Build Fair Alliance under which we have 5 events now. We have received a good response for this event and therefore we are looking forward to continue with this alliance. 4. Build Fair Alliance has bought 5 events together at one venue. What is your opinion about this? A. I feel that we have reached a time when we need to consolidate some of the events under one roof. This would enable members of the industry to see and know about related products and services at one single space. So BFA is a fair where people can find everything related to construction technology. We feel happy to be associated with BFA as we have received very encouraging results in the first year itself. 5. What are your plans for the next edition? A. We will be moving along with BFA. So the next edition will be in Bangalore at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) from 22nd to 24th of February, 2018. 6. What makes your show so successful? A. We have done a good networking for our visitors and exhibitors. And this relationship between the visitors and exhibitors has been built over 3-4 editions of the show. This level of networking has enabled them to that appointments and meetings are fixed well in advanced and all the discussions take place and conclude at the show.

“We need such kind of an encouragement in our industry” (Exhibition Excellence Awards)

7. What do you have to say about the Exhibition Excellence Awards? A. I think it's a great initiative and I feel that we need such kind of an encouragement in our industry. This kind of healthy competitive environment motivates us to do better and new things in our work.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW Mr. Himanshu Chitnis

Group Exhibition Head (Technical) - Messe Frankfurt

1. Please tell us about yourself. A. I am Himanshu Chitnis. I have been in exhibition industry for over 28 years now. And have been working with Messe Frankfurt from past 2 years and I find it a great organisation. I take care of the technical shows organised by Messe Frankfurt. Talking about ISH India, I had requested the management to let me to handle the show because I had started my career with the Inside-Outside magazine where we used to do interior related exhibitions which are still very close to my heart. So I wanted to handle this project. 2. Please tell us about the show - ISH India. A. ISH India is an international trade fair for plumbing, sanitation, bathroom & kitchen, renewable energy and home automation systems in India. This was the first edition of ISH India. And this was a good experience. In fact, ISH Frankfurt is one of the major shows in this particular segment in the world. ISH has been there in the market for last 55 years but this is the first time we are doing it in India. The next edition of ISH is scheduled to be held in the month of March. 3. What are expectations from the show? A. My expectations from ISH India are basically to bring the sanitation, plumbing and sanitary industries together and create a platform. There have been no shows in the country on this particular segment. There are certain other shows which are related to interiors or furniture. Here we are creating a niche. In fact we have never seen plumbing taken as an important aspect in life but if plumbing is bad, the entire system or building can get badly affected. 4. The show is powered by Indian Plumbing Association (IPA). What do you have to say about that? A. Knowing the vitality of plumbing we have tied up with Indian Plumbing Association. IPA has been doing great activities but has never been in the limelight. Now, Prime Minister is also talking about 'SwachhtaAbhiyaan', we have to take serious steps in maintaining hygiene. 5. Five shows together. What is your opinion about this BFA initiative ? A. We have a consortium of five shows where three Industry Associations and three German organisers have come together to put up this 'Build Fair Alliance'. These five shows are basically ACREX India, which is the largest show here – related to HVAC industry organised by ISHRAE; then we have ISH India which is concerned with sanitation & plumbing organised by Indian Plumbing Association with Messe Farnkfurt; third is Glasspro related to Glass industry; another show is Fensterbau Frontale India based on windows & frames; and finally we have FSIE which is about fire & safety organised by FSCI.

“We have never seen plumbing taken as an important aspect in life but if plumbing is bad, the entire system or building can get badly affected....”

Campaign

...................................................................................... THE WORKERS – THE EVENT BUILDERS

E

xhibition Industry is obliged to 'The Workers' who work behind the scenes to make an event happen. They belong to a section of society that may have dreams like the rest but lack facilities that we enjoy. Their skills at the work they do often go unappreciated or even noticed. But none of us can deny the fact that their support is immensely critical in the success of an event. They work for days, staying up even at night so that the event can start on time. They work under stressful conditions, sometimes putting their health and safety at risk and also face host challenges in the real time. It's time to pay our tribute to the real heroes in the Exhibition Industry. This is a salute to 'The Workers' for their dedication, effort, selflessness and contribution. Exhibition Showcase has initiated this 'not for profit' campaign by inviting the entire Exhibition Industry members to come together and express gratitude towards their workers. Exhibition Showcase TV has also created an exclusive movie dedicated to the workers community in our industry. Under this campaign, the industry professionals are requested to click pictures of their workers as selfies with them or candid shots of them working at the site and post them on

Exhibition Showcase Official Facebook Page. Feel free to go ahead and write thanks giving messages for your workers or a general message highlighting their role in your company or organisation. Your workers may not have a Facebook profile, they may not even have access to the internet but this one act of gratitude will definitely touch their lives. “ Fe e l i n g g r a t i t u d e a n d n o t expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” Selected pictures will be published in the magazine, Exhibition TV, Newsletters and promoted among the global audience. “They do a great job! I think all of this industry, particularly they, understand that 'the show must go on' is correct in literal sense. It is very easy to give a statement that 'the show must go on' or the show has to 'open the shutters'. But in this process we thump them hard, asking “why is this and that work still not done?” But I think the real guys are they because they build it all over. Yes, we try to engage or bring together the community and they are also an important part of the community because if the shows are not there or the stands are not there or the kind of experience customers want, is not there, then obviously there is a gap. So it's a great initiative. As we

are in a digital age, it would definitely reach them and they can see, understand and feel motivated and energized.” – Vineet Mahajan, Reed Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd. “Event builder is a good initiative to acknowledge the workers.” - Mr. Biju Thomas, CEC Exhibition pvt ltd. “Of course these workers are not acknowledged as they should be. So the initiative is very nice and should be appreciated.” - Mr. Vivek Shukla, Affairs Exhibitions and Media Pvt. Ltd. “The event builder initiative is very nice. It will help to encourage the workers.” - Mr. Ram Lal Khetan, Bihar Industries Association. “Event - Builders initiative is good” – Mr. Rajendra, Kalavishkar “Initiative sounds good, magazine can send their executive to the different exhibitions for the interviews of the workers and this lead to acknowledgement and appreciation of their work.” Propfair Events and Exhibitions “Initiative is good! Workers should be given the credit they deserve.” Mr. Jayosh Radadiya, Infocom World. “Initiative is appreciated, we appreciate the efforts of our w o r k e r s t o o. ” - A d Wo r l d Communications.
