NowI admit I may be living in a muddy bubble, but it seems like everyone and their dog are getting into the pottery vibe!
To acknowledge this and the frankly fabulous work coming out of the Raglan Clay Shed at the moment…(not to mention all the goodness from our established local potters and clay artists and those in the wider Waikato region too) we’re hosting the first ever Best West Clay Fest!
Held out the back at the Old School, this family fun day is all about celebrating local talent, sharing just what is so good about clay with newbies and having some creative fun with the community.
Running all day long, we’ve also got a line-up of local superstars selling their work in the ceramics market (upstairs in the new theatre room above the clay shed).
• Feat: Alice Edge, Aysh Geros, Hannah Fasenkloet, Bay Belle, Merren Goodison, Mr Potter, Bing Ceramics, Holly Cahill, Kimba Allison
• A free community art project with a big pile of clay for everyone to get stuck in - combining to sculpt your take on “what makes home, home” out of local mud.
• A display of the process clay goes through to become the finished bowl you eat your brekkie in.
• Pottery wheel and hand-building demonstrations.
• Paint your own pottery.
• Clay-lympics which is open to anyone to compete in. Win yourself a prized handmade ceramic trophy! Events: pull the longest handle, throw the tallest cylinder, throw the most of your chosen shape off the hump. And of course, food, fresh juices, dizzy blocks and tunes all nestled in the grass out the back of the Raglan Kindergarten.
Can’t wait to see you there! clayfest.co.nz | #bestwestclayfest
