E-LEARNING

Blackboard Benchmarking (Staff Only) We have recently re-run the Blackboard Benchmarking exercise on all courses currently available on the VLE. These results have been distributed to Centre Managers to assist with the completion of Course Reviews. Each course gets two ratings - one for the type of content used within the course area (Content, Assessment and Collaboration / Interactive) and one for Student Usage. The grades are Starter, Bronze, Silver and Gold. More detailed information can be found on the benchmarking document distributed to your CM. Once you have your Benchmarking results, it is important to identify where you can make improvements. If you achieved “Bronze” for your content rating, how about adding some online tests as a check for understanding? How about adding a Discussion Board to your area to engage students in some online collaboration? Do you add your Smart Board classroom notes onto Blackboard at the end of each session?

2

One of the common themes with the benchmarking is that course areas with great content get great student interaction and usage. Courses with lower content rating tend to achieve much lower student usage. Please take a look at your benchmarking results and use it as an opportunity to propel your course area into shape. As it now features on the course review, it is more important than ever. Assistance is always just at hand….Bobby Burchill and Simon Hill are our resident Blackboard experts who are more than happy to work alongside you to develop or even re-build your course on Blackboard. They can mentor you through the process of turning your Blackboard course area into something great. Give them a call on Ext. 3583 or Ext. 3160.
