The Wellness Collective:
Connecting Community & Wellness
By Jane Miners
A
few years ago, I began to reflect on my journey through healing and each aspect of the self: mind, body, and spirit. I became very interested in holistic wellness once I became a mother, and I have changed much about my lifestyle to become healthier through the years. I was a longtime smoker and drank more than the “daily recommended” amount, but through dedication and help, the holistic journey I embarked on eventually led me through self-healing to become more physically,

emotionally, and mentally healthy. In other words, I became more whole. The term holistic itself actually means “wholeness,” or “operating as a whole system,” and for me, the idea that the mind, body, and spirit operate as one system—that mind and body are one—is very natural. For others, this may not be the case, but with growing scientific evidence that our physical health is directly influenced by thoughts and feelings (and vice versa) this concept may become more commonly understood and embraced. The face of healing and wellness itself is changing in our world. For many decades the Western medicine model of prescription pills and invasive
surgeries has ruled the United States, but with rising costs of health care, health insurance, and the pervasive rule of the pharmaceutical industry, many are ready for this system to change. A growing body of research supports the benefits of energy medicine and complementary and integrative healing modalities (commonly referred to as “alternative” medicine, i.e., massage, acupuncture, etc.), and many

Body & Mind individuals are seeking a new approach to healing. One approach is a holistic model, which may be new to some, yet many holistic healing methods have been used for thousands of years. Around 2002, I began practicing yoga and receiving massage because it helped me feel good. At the time I didn’t know I was planting seeds of living a holistic lifestyle, but I was less stressed and felt good about taking care of my body in this way. I started trying new things such as acupressure, acupuncture, and craniosacral therapy for anxiety and help to quit smoking. I underwent counseling and received Reiki to help get to root causes of emotional scars and depression. I studied psychology and became more familiar with how the brain operates and became keenly aware of how the outer environment, biology, and choice of thoughts affect the brain. I learned about herbs, flower essences, essential oils, and began to understand how our food is medicine if we want it to be. I found spiritual fulfillment through meditation and connected to my self on a deeper level through yoga and contemplation. Through all this, I realized that we humans are like onions; we peel back the layers one by one. Some of our layers are thick, some thin, some layers really make us cry, and others are sweet. I began
to think, “What if we all approached healing this way? What if people began to realize how much power they have to heal themselves by using these tools? What if we viewed health as wellness of the whole being—mind, body, and spirit?” I began thinking about heath care in the United States; many of us have become disenchanted with the system, and I started to daydream of a center that was a one-stop shop for holistic wellness—a place that had all the things I’ve used (even types of treatments I had yet to try) and medical professionals. I envisioned that the center would be concentrated with services; it would be a coherent guide to help lead people to treatments, professionals, and classes that were right for them, because we all require different things at different times. Then I thought, “Why does it have to be just one center? What if it were bigger than that and there were many different locations? As practitioners, we want to help all people be well; why don’t we all work together?” As I started asking these questions I found that many people had the same idea in mind. This was how the Wellness Collective was born. I began creating a database of holistic modalities, locations, and
practitioners by organizing a group and building a website that lists everyone in the Collective. During the past year, the Wellness Collective has grown into a group of practitioners working together to help individuals find services and practitioners that best suit their needs. This database will continue to expand as more people are drawn to holistic health because many are realizing that not one way of living, one diet, lifestyle, or exercise is right for every person. We are individuals with varying natures. Yes, we have commonalities in our humanness, but we are all a little different in how we respond to foods, various exercises, and people. We have individual preferences and are drawn to certain groups, places, and lifestyles; one size does not fit all. With the collective model, mind, body, and spirit can be addressed as one working system, and a merging of Eastern and Western medicine can occur; we can begin looking outside the pill bottle and inside ourselves. The Wellness Collective is a growing group of practitioners working in support of one another to bring the right people and services together; we are serving the whole, one individual at a time. For more info and list of services and locations, or if you are a practitioner and would like to join the Wellness Collective, go to WellnessForBeing.com or email info@WellnessForBeing.com.

As a scientist I recognize cycles in nature and cycles aren’t talked about here in Western science very much. ...natural rhythms; all of which are converging and they’re turning our world upside down and people now recognize that something has to change, and the only things that are lighting up when the veil is pulled are the things that are not sustainable, and all the things that are sustainable and true are no problem.

A Letter from the Publishers
Navigating Our Changing World
W
e are often asked what our mission is when publishing the Lotus Guide; the answer to this would have many dimensions, but to pin it down into one simple statement we would have to say that the information we publish is meant to weaponize the readers’ curiosity. By this, what we are saying is that there’s nothing more powerful when entering uncharted territory than to have an insatiable desire for truth and to be armed with the best and latest information. With the advent of advanced technology, science can peer deeply into worlds that have for centuries been unknown and unseen and misunderstood. Many of us know from firsthand experience that when it comes to health, prevention is the best way to deal with chronic illness, and since most chronic illness can be prevented through education and changes in lifestyle, we can start taking responsibility for our lives, which in itself is empowering. Together we can clear the lens of perception with critical thinking based on knowledge, not assumptions or theories, we can see further over the horizon of our awareness by standing on the shoulders of those who have worked diligently to inform and enlighten us, and for the first time in recorded history we have the freedom to put light on the unknown that has haunted us and evoked countless fears and superstitions that have caused unthinkable suffering for millennia. So never underestimate the power of well-documented information, because as John Adams once said, “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” Our civilization is in the last stages of its adolescence and entering early adulthood, and the time to put away childish things is upon us; war is not the way toward a sustainable future, continued use of chemicals and drugs is not the way toward a healthy lifestyle for our future generations, and looking toward patriarchal figures and institutions to save us has never worked throughout history. We always like to thank all of you who read the Lotus Guide and support our advertisers, who simply want to help others, and the amazing people who submit informative articles. Rahasya & Dhara

The 4th Chapter of the Yoga By Tom Hess
T
he fourth chapter of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is in some ways a culmination of the body of work that has come before and, more important, it is a description of how a realized being exists on the earth. Realized beings are those who have gone through the practice of yoga until they have reached a degree of integration or absorption between themselves and the world around them. Once the practitioner reaches this state, the latent impressions, or samskaras, stop accumulating and therefore the practitioner is free from the influence of past experiences. When he or she is free from the influence of these past impressions, the practitioner has the freedom to see the situation without the influence of past experience and to act, not from the past, but from the now. This is a powerful tool of perception. This is especially important when it comes to ourselves. We have built up quite an impression of who we are as individuals and when we see beyond these impressions to the real us, we might be surprised at whom we see in the mirror.

Sutras of Patanjali We all perceive objects differently. All of our past impressions of that object color our view of it and what it means to someone can be quite different from what it might mean to another. But what if we were to see that object without any preconceived idea of what it might be, but just in its true form? This is what the realized person sees when he or she sees something—its real form. When seekers recognize the difference between their own consciousness and their awareness, then understanding blossoms. And then we are back to the third sutra of the first chapter. To quote B. K. S. Iyengar: “When the waves of consciousness are stilled and silenced, they can no longer distort the true expression of the soul. Revealed in his own nature, the radiant seer abides in his own grandeur.” Here is a brief summary of the Sutras as a whole — In the first chapter of the Sutras, Patanjali describes the importance of the practices of yoga and detachment from the worldly attachments that draw us away from our true natures. Then the gunas are described. Tamas, rajas, and sattva—these are the states that we always exist in and the goal is to guide our lives to have more of a sattvic or illumined state. Then he defines God or Isvara, and then he lists some of the obstacles of yoga so that we know what we are up against. Then he lists the types of yoga work that we need to practice to overcome these obstacles. In the second chapter, Patanjali tells us of the various practices we should be doing to accomplish this yoga. He describes Kriya Yoga and its components as an abbreviated path to yoga, and later in the chapter he goes into a long description of the eight limbs of yoga, the more traditional path that most beings must travel; only some advanced beings can take the abbreviated path. In this chapter he also talks about the kleshas; these are deeply seated impressions we have that make us see the world with a particular viewpoint. In the third chapter, Patanjali describes the changes that occur for the practitioner as he or she travels the path of yoga. Many of these powers are a direct result of a deeper understanding of the world that leads the practitioner to see things differently. Without distortion. And in the last chapter, Patanjali describes what it is like for the person who has traveled this path. What would it be like to see and perceive the world around us with no filter? It would be the miracle of yoga. For more info visit: YogaCenterofChico.com www.lotusguide.com

What force do you wish to feed? Would you rather be...
A PEACEFUL HUMAN OR AN ANGRY MONSTER?
By Paula Galindo
H
umans experience two distinct forces within themselves. One is the animal/instinctive force, and the other is the transcendental force. Both forces participate in our decision making to different degrees. They each exert a powerful influence over the way we do things and how we perceive other people and the world around us. When we live our lives looking to feed the animal force alone, we devote our time and energy to accumulating material wealth and fulfilling our preferences, whims, and expectations—we do what feels good and avoid what feels bad. Often, people waste years waiting for the “right” conditions before doing what they consider important in their lives, but they spend hours every day obsessing over ephemeral, superficial things.
When your mind starts ruminating about something, you go to the past or future, feeling afraid of life, and your mind blocks out opportunities from your awareness. No room for mistakes, no time for wonder. The brain becomes a commanding machine, wanting to be in control of the emotions, the mysteries of life, and the fear. The body disconnects, and then everything that happens gets processed through association and judgment dressed as rationality. We become slaves trapped in our heads— brainiacs. The animal nature is never satisfied, always competing, showing off. It stays forever in survival mode, yearning for new ways to feel pleasure and an illusionary sense of control over the world. Sometimes, when the suffering and anguish become unbearable, or when we have a breakthrough experience and discover a new way to live without the pressure and internal violence of the other way, we have an opportunity to transcend the animal plane of existence. We take responsibility for who we are and we decide to work on ourselves instead of waiting for the world to accommodate our whims. We learn to feel OK with uncertainty and we let go of the need to control in order to participate and contribute.

We stop trying to change and resist the animal force inside us, and we embrace and understand that the way out is the way in, meaning that the more we learn through nonjudgmental observation about how it operates in our behaviors, habits, and tendencies, the more able we are to use this knowledge to support and empower the transcendent force within. We can finally acknowledge that both parts in us are necessary for transformation, so we connect both sides and become whole. At the same time, when body and mind work in alignment, they stop operating in emergency survival mode. When we decide to live from the heart and use the mind for effectively moving and operating in the world, we recognize ourselves beyond our personalities, races, genders, and so forth, and we understand that it is our own responsibility to feed the inner force of transcendence through daily efforts— making new habits—so we don’t just think about being respectful or loving toward others—we do it—it becomes second nature. It’s important to understand that I’m not talking about positive thinking to turn your world into what you want. That might make some people feel good temporarily, and to look happy to others around them. But the moment something unexpected happens, all the “goodness” goes away.
Body & Mind What I’m suggesting is to use the full force of your awareness and attention to engage in practices and situations in which you can exercise, strengthen, and develop sensations and feelings of security, connection, deep satisfaction, love, compassion, success, gratitude, and peace. It is not a thinking task, it is an experiential mission. We can create for ourselves a new understanding of how change occurs. We can learn to benefit from it and how to move away from concerns, fears, and doubts toward wise decision making. The first action to create this shift is to tune up our minds and bodies so they can work harmoniously together. This helps focus our attention on looking within instead of dwelling on external circumstances. Our culture indoctrinates us with a strong belief that we need to fix and repair our broken minds, our imperfect bodies, the dysfunction of society, the way things are going, the mistakes of others. In the practical world, that belief is extremely painful to sustain, mainly because it’s limiting, and because it creates constant judgment and criticism. Transformation occurs when we learn to strategically set up new ways that don’t conflict with what we are, but rather ways that nurture it, embrace it, and change it—bringing a new and different experience. A habit will only entrench itself more firmly if we try to fight it directly. The best way to change behaviors is not by eliminating old patterns, but by creating new ones and reinforcing them consistently through time. One of the best ways to stimulate change is through peak experiences, aha moments, and awe. This attitude lets us
see our habitual patterns and reactions without judgment. Through deliberate intention, experiential practice, and creative processes, we can make use of resources such as gaming, art, symbols, stories, and metaphors to map our own lifelong journey of change.
Conscious breathing, art, meditation, gaming, and movement can help us to develop the skills we need to embody habits of mindfulness, awareness, and consciousness. When we are present to what it is, we create a space, a mood, and a posture to transcend and expand—we live a powerful and creative life. In a word, it’s a much more fun approach. The FUN approach reveals your natural state of pure joy and wonder.
FUN stands for: Freedom from guilt, pain, and self-criticism, UNION of mind and body, and Natural, organic methods and tools that get you back to the best you.
The result of this exploration is a profound change into more ease, joy, and calm throughout the different phases of our lives, as well as new understandings of the transformative potential of struggle, pain, and challenges. We start taking more assertive actions, enjoying ourselves more, and complaining less about others and the world. We become agents of conscious change, a source of inspiration for others to free themselves from unnecessary suffering. Awake Mind & Body guides you into your own particular journey of transformation, providing you with techniques that provide an integrative approach to change, balancing your mind, rekindling the aliveness in your body, and lifting your spirit.

Approaching transformation this way helps you to understand that life isn’t about holding onto an ideal, expectations, or behaviors that remains the same through time. We can welcome and even enjoy making mistakes, because we know that they are ultimately nourishment for our own growth, learning, and evolution. The more we allow ourselves to make mistakes and learn from them, the more we can remain aware in the present moment. If we relax and enjoy whatever happens to be going on, we become naturally immersed in what’s happening rather than stuck believing in mental story lines. We become assertive, without a need to manipulate or create drama. We love and embrace the mystery of being us. No repression, no judgment, just pure fun, gratitude, and joy. Fundamentals of
Manifestation
By Dr. Terry Cole-Whittaker
Greetings, Precious Spirit Soul That You Are, What I am sharing with you is some of what I have found and also realized from my research as a spiritual sleuth, looking for clues concerning who and what we are, how this reality works, and what is possible beyond what we have been taught to believe and accept.
Every person is a manifestant, because we are creator beings. Ignorance of our true, eternal, and divine nature, what this consists of, and how we manifest is the cause of all human, animal, and earthly aberrations and miseries. Ancient wisdom tells us that the cause of all misery is the belief that we are these physical bodies that are born, live for a while, get sick, die, and are buried in the ground, burned up,or left for the wild animals and worms. This mistake of believing that this temporary physical body is all that we are is the grand illusion that generates this so-called virtual reality of birth and death, a time game. The ancients, including the Tibetan Buddhists, faced our same basic

challenges and knew that the mind is the problem and the generator of problems and suffering for humanity. If this does not make sense to you, observe the mind for a while and what it is telling you to believe, emotionalize, say, and do. When an incident happens, the mind is quick to make up a story that validates the person’s beliefs as a victim, perpetrator, or savior, the basic false identities. The mind cannot conceive of what is divine and eternal because we are beyond conception, although the mental and physical body are conceived. How can you get any answers and solutions to problems by using the same system that is creating the problems? You cannot. Arguing for, defending, and promoting concepts, ideas, thoughts, and words that limit, depower, and harm is the norm for those people who are oblivious to
Special Interest fundamentals of manifestation. Thoughts believed are what produce realities. Groups of people are controlled and directed by concepts that are constantly talked and written about through the media, educational institutions, and so on until the concepts become absolute truth and to even challenge or disagree is heresy and even punishable. Free speech is essential unless you want your eternal existence to be in a thought-form reality cube/box that someone else has designed for you and not for your ultimate benefit. You cannot think out of the box, for thinking is a box when the thoughts are believed, emotionalized, and acted upon. Many people are proud of their limited reality box existence that they defend and promote. Notice the difference between people who are mind centered and those who are heart and inner-guide centered. One word can bring joy to a person and another word can destroy a person’s enthusiasm, vitality, and selfconfidence. Our emotional reactions to sounds, words spoken, sung, thought, or written have the potential to control and direct people in various and sundry ways. Wagner the composer wrote music for soldiers to go to war; on the other hand, Beethoven’s music is more mystic and divine. I tune my piano to 432 instead of the 440 that was set in 1939 because the 432 harmonizes with the pineal gland. It’s easy to manipulate people through sounds, words, and beliefs unless the person is savvy as to how it all works. Observe and notice the words that trigger you. Meditate and
find the core belief about the word that engenders your reactions and actions, discard what you do not want, and free yourself from depowerment. Why are we giving our creative godlike powers to scribbles on a piece of paper called letters, when we are the ones who are bowing to the superiority of words over us and agreeing to reality word boxes, prisons of the mind? Being open is not being naive or foolish; on the contrary, we are liberated and thus free agents. I know, we all use words, so what to do? Choosing your words that inspire, empower, and enrich you and others is a good guide. No longer react to other words and sounds and meanings and stay centered in your knowing and divine self. Commands, statements given to us by people we admire, respect, or believe know more than we do, work like hypnotic suggestions and operate under the radar, so to speak, like computer programs working incognito all the while controlling the person. Seek these out and eliminate them for what they are, letters, sounds, and meanings accepted as true and absolute when only we are true, real, and absolute. For example, if someone said to another person, “No one will ever love you,” this statement can have a deep emotional impact because the person transposes you to I, as if this is absolutely true. A person’s confidence is destroyed when he or she believes and has absolute faith in words that are continuously flowing through the mind. When we give data, information, words, concepts, and beliefs, all made with words, the power of God, we
automatically deny our godlike powers, making us dysfunctional and the effect of our own creations instead of the cause. There is really nothing wrong with anyone at the level of one’s true and authentic, eternal self and never has been. You can consider the mind operating as a computer and these fear, lack, loss, and guilt thought forms are like a virus that continually sabotages our heartfelt desires from manifesting. Someone who is said to have lost his or her mind has been taken over by the relentless streaming of vulgar, demeaning, and vicious words. Taking control of the mind is essential. All this is remedied with the proper medicines, including but not limited to meditation; spiritual teachings and ancient wisdom; trusting one’s inner knowing and experience; the assistance of others such as teachers, therapists, counselors; and inspiring, enriching, and empowering people. Our best and most intelligent investment is in our own consciousness for whatever we desire to attain — manifest. Endeavor to control the mind by stopping the flow of thoughts, turn them off and be still, be present in your body and in the environment around you. Practice being yourself in the now, as the now, without giving any attention to thoughts as perceived as a streaming flow of words. Once you grab onto a word and emotionalize and act on it, you are an effect of words when in truth you are superior and transcendental to words. For more info visit: TerryColeWhittaker.com

e’d like you to meet Daisy. She’s the precious border collie, a therapy dog for her owner Shauna, who has PTSD. Daisy had a large growth between two of her paw pads. Her energy level was low and Shauna was worried. The vet biopsied the growth and found cancer. It was recommended that Daisy have the growth removed, along with amputation of two of her pads, followed by chemo. The estimated cost was $10,000.
Shauna decided to try energy medicine, NAET, before following through with the pain and expense of the recommended treatment plan. We treated Daisy using NAET remotely. The growth reduced by half within 24 hours and after only three treatments. Daisy received 10 more treatments and the growth disappeared. Daisy’s energy level returned to normal for an active dog. We were all so happy and the vet was astonished and confused.

This story shows just one way NAET works. It demonstrates the levels of healing and the patience that may be necessary to achieve the desired results. Shauna could have decided that NAET wasn’t working, or not working fast enough. After all, the growth was still there.
Whether human or animal, we need time to detox, time to adjust, and then we can find the next item to treat. This takes time as the body can handle only so much. It can be hard to have the patience and faith that a shift is taking place. Now, if you add a herbal medicinal, such as our natural antibiotic, natural antiviral supplement, or natural antifungal, the healing is accelerated. We also have individual medicines for the brain, pancreas, liver, kidneys, immune system, lungs, and so on. In NAET, cancer is referred to as immune system havoc. When the immune system is healed, it can fight many organisms on its own and disease dissolves. In NAET we refer to the “basic 15,” which matches the basic food groups. When people can absorb nutrients, they now have what they need to heal and the energy to do it. From there, we can look at

Body & Mind Recently we have been treating our clients for smoke mix and recommending Permilung, as NAET helps remove the smoke and the allergy to it. Permilung opens the lungs and pushes the junk out while giving the DNA a blueprint of healthy lung tissue (called Formcodes). We offer two medicinals that help reverse immune system havoc: Immunis and Fulvic-Cava. Immunis helps the body respond quickly to infections and protects the cells from abnormal reactions. Its key functions: • Helps and enhances the body’s own immunity; • Is an effective anti-inflammatory; • Is antifungal; • Is antibacterial; • Is antiviral; • Shortens recovery time (we see this often); • Helps the body normalize the abnormal cell growth; • Lessens pains caused by injuries; • Is a decongestant; • Helps the body remove allergens effectively.
other items that need to be removed from the body. We look for causes. Examples could be bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, fluoride, chemicals, vaccines, dental materials and plaque, and so on. In Daisy’s case one of the key problems was her body’s reaction to pesticides.

Fulvic-Cava contains two primary ingredients, fulvic acid and Ecklonia cava. It is well known that fulvic acid increases a cell’s ability to release toxic metals and at the same time allow transportation of nutrients into deep tissue. Fulvic-Cava’s key attributes: • Promotes electrolyte balance; • Promotes healthy aging; • Provides cardiovascular and heavy metal detox; • Helps the body carry more oxygen; • Improves biological reactions; • Stimulates metabolism of carbohydrates; • Helps maintain healthy weight management; • Helps lower bad cholesterol and elevates good cholesterol; • Helps maintain healthy blood glucose levels; • Normalizes blood pressure. Why Aren’t You Living Your Dream? RESONANCE REPATTERNING fulfilling, something that allows them to make their mark on the world and help people and society in a valuable way. This begs the question: Why aren’t they doing it?

o many people feel trapped in a 9-to-5 job. They don’t like what they’re doing, are uninspired and/or underpaid, and don’t think they are making a contribution to society. The problems go on. They may work long hours, have difficult relationships with their bosses or coworkers, and be disappointed by a lack of advancement. They don’t like what they do. Many of them have a dream to do something
Clues are found in the story of Burt Munro from New Zealand, whose story is depicted in the 2005 film The World’s Fastest Indian. Burt is an older man, perhaps in his late 60s, who has a very limited income and suffers several health problems, including heart trouble, prostate trouble, and hearing loss. He has tinkered with his motorcycle for about 25 years, getting it to go faster and faster. Burt is a free spirit with a dream to travel from New Zealand to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah to compete in a race known as Speed Week. The story depicts the amazing circumstances through which
Burt overcomes difficulties with finances, technicalities of race registration, bike problems, health problems, and more, to break the world’s speed record and return nine more years to the Utah Salt Flats. He goes faster every year and sets numerous records. Burt’s story seems miraculous and inspiring, yet little do we know … we are just as powerful as Burt. Why was Burt able to live his dream, while so many other people are not?

Body & Mind Burt was able to live his dream because he was successful at each of these critical steps: • Step 1 — Know what the dream is — write it down. • Step 2 — Visualize living the dream. • Step 3 — Take action to realize the dream. • Step 4 — Face every obstacle. • Step 5 — Give 100 percent of ourselves to realizing our dream. • Step 6 — Allow for the unexpected. • Step 7 — Accept and embrace every failure as motivation for growth. “Oh, no,” you say. “I know what my dream is, and I’ve even written it down, but visualizing it is tough — it can seem so unlikely some days — and being motivated to take action is even harder. I feel stuck and I fold in the face of difficulties. And, as for giving 100 percent of myself, there’s only about 10 percent left after I do my day job and fulfill other responsibilities. How on earth can I realize my dream?” The answer lies in release of limiting beliefs that hold you back. Do any of these sound familiar? • My dreams are impossible to realize. • No one believes my dream is possible, so I lose faith in myself.
• I try to please others by doing what they want me to do, instead of realizing my dream. • I lose hope. • My dream is too preposterous to realize. • I don’t trust that obstacles can be overcome. • Miracles are for other people. • Dreams are irresponsible. These are just a few examples and there are many more. Where did these limiting beliefs come from? Research has shown that the vast majority, up to 85 percent, of our beliefs are formed in early childhood. The beliefs that hold us back result from experiences that were painful for us when we were young. So what can we do? We can reprogram our childhood experiences. At this point, the painful childhood memories on which our limiting beliefs are based are just held arbitrarily in the mind. They aren’t happening anymore — we just store the images in our heads. These images can be replaced with more pleasant ones … images that allow us to live our dreams, and the process is simple. The early experiences that need to be addressed are identified with muscle checking. We walk through that painful experience with a practitioner, honoring the emotions by stating them out loud, and identifying the beliefs that were formed based on the experience. Then
we decide what image we wish we were storing instead — what do we wish had happened? We can replace the image and beliefs that have been holding us back with those of what we wish had happened instead. This process creates new neural pathways that allow for positive, joyful experiences and success. It’s simple, and fun, and the process often involves one or more modalities, including color therapy, movement, craniosacral contacts, and acupressure, just to name a few. In this way, we remove the subconscious barriers that hold us back and prevent us from living our dreams. For most of us, it’s a steady, iterative process that can be applied whenever required as we move along the path from our current state to the manifestation of our dreams. Whatever difficulties arise, we remember that our thoughts create our reality. Therefore we realize that our difficulties are like traffic signs and arrows pointing us toward the inner work that needs to happen. As such, we welcome them and their guidance, work on early experiences, and create neural pathways that support manifestation of our highest potential. Then, like Burt, we too can live our dreams. STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION & ENERGY MEDICINE

magine an explorer, in this case, a French hand surgeon. He ties the tourniquet. Blood flow stops. Only 20 minutes to slide the high-resolution video fiber-optic camera carefully under the skin of his patient’s forearm and take a stroll inside the inner scape of a living human body. What he finds astonishes him. It’s nothing like the textbook photos
based on cadaver labs. Instead, it is a cascade of chaotic fractal patterns of fibers, fluids, and shapeshifting gel-like spaces, slipping and sliding in response to pressures from outside the body. This seeming chaos, he realizes, is actually how movement happens in cells and tissues without damaging them. It’s an orderly response to vectors of force being spread through the fascial web! This is the watery, fibrous, living network of an inner landscape that cannot be seen in the dried, adhered tissues of a cadaver. Jean-Claude Guimberteau, the French hand surgeon, astounded many in the worldwide scientific community in 2015 with his book Architecture of Human Living Fascia. In it he relates 20 years of research that allows us to see more clearly who we are under our skins. This living matrix of fascia is wondrously beautiful, alive, and ever changing. Many of the adaptive, self-organizing,
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
and dynamic attributes we wish to embody are already there right inside us! They permeate our entire beings through the liquid crystallinelike matrix of the healthy bodywide fascial web. This reads like science fiction, but in fact it is part of the current scientific dialogue about the interstitium. The interstitium refers to living fascial connective tissues comprising gel-like fluid-filled compartments and collagen protein fibers. Some scientists had previously missed this because they had been studying dead, dehydrated tissue samples in which the fluid-filled compartments had collapsed, making them difficult to see. One client heard the buzz through a late-night comedian. Another swooshed into my treatment room, exclaiming, “Jean Louise, scientists have discovered a new bodywide organ they’re calling the interstitium. I think it’s the same thing as the fascia you’ve

been speaking about!” This was also not news to those in the field, such as research scientist Robert Schleip, PhD, director of the human Fascial Net Plastination Project (FNPP), and his international team that came together in 2017. They are creating the world’s first preserved cadaver specimens of the fascial network, permanently infused with silicone rubber. org/plastination. Structural integration is a form of manual therapy created by the pioneering biochemist Dr. Ida P. Rolf, PhD, who lived from 1896 to 1979. It is personalized bodywork that addresses fascial connective tissues. Fascia has been described as one continuous fabric in the body that varies greatly in texture and thickness. This tissue gives the body its shape and surrounds and supports the nerves, muscles, organs, vessels, and bones that lie within it. It is also the pathway of movement for the flow of the subtle life force energy known as Qi. Dr. Rolf was deeply influenced by her studies of biological science and physics. She recognized the importance of gravity in reinforcing the body’s architecture and energy field— particularly if the body is organized, as she called proper alignment. “We want to get a man out of the place where gravity is his enemy. We want to get him into the place where gravity reinforces him and is a friend, a nourishing force.” To do this, the center of gravity of the major parts of the body need to be symmetrically organized one above the other around a central vertical axis that Dr. Rolf referred to as the line. When body parts are aligned in structural integration and physical, mental, and emotional stresses are cleared
from the connective tissues, access to larger fields of energy open to us. We are, at heart, energetic beings in a physical body. It is our birthright to be supported, sustained, and nourished by these fields that surround us. Through a series of 10 sessions of structural integration, a practitioner systematically works with the entire body, ensuring that connective tissue layers can move freely and smoothly in relation to one another. In doing so, problematic strain patterns can be released to restore proper movement and structural integrity of the body. As strain dissipates, pain and inflammation diminish. Related emotional and mental stress may resolve as well. New energy becomes available and increased well-being can emerge. Big and little miracles happen every day on structural integration tables around the world. For a practitioner, it’s all in a good day’s work; for the client, it can be life changing. Structural integration holds the potential for vast transformation and evolution if that is what is desired. This is the work I am honored to do. I have the feeling that it is the most important gift I could share with anyone. Jean Louise Green, CMT Certified Rolf Practitioner of Structural Integration 530-899-7653, Chico JeanLouiseGreen.com

Creating the New World in Times of Paradigm Shift A New DVD from Jack Allis, Author and Spiritual Teacher
In his latest DVD, Jack Allis reminds us that 2012 may have come and gone, but these are still times of paradigm shift. Our old-paradigm civilized world is on the brink of its inevitable collapse and from this there is an opportunity to create a new world. Jack challenges us all to play our part in this. He asserts that there is only one way and that is in small sustainable communities that live in harmony with nature. This includes letting go of the old-paradigm matrix, reassuming responsibility for our lives, and developing the awesome powers of our spirituality. You may not agree with everything he says, but this DVD is definitely worth the watch. These are things we should probably be thinking about. Dhara Lemos, Lotus Guide

Most books published on positive thinking point the way toward a destiny you may have control of, but this book actually guides you with some of the clearest thinking on the subject I’ve ever read. For someone who has written books that are all over the map, Mitch Horowitz focused his attention on this subject with laserlike accuracy. This is a profound update of a subject that writers such as William James alluded to in the early 1900s but that was widely misunderstood by the consciousness of that time.
It’s a given fact that if we don’t learn from our past we are destined to repeat it. I recently interviewed Gregg Braden and after rereading this book, I find it clear that he has been onto something for many years. We are entering the beginning of another great cycle that ancient civilizations have warned us about, and if we heed that warning we can transition through the challenging and tumultuous times ahead. Some books are timeless and this is one. Rahasya Poe, Lotus Guide

OK, let’s all be honest for a moment— traditional allopathic medicine is not working as a way to treat chronic illness. If you have found yourself in a situation in which you needed to use pharmaceutical antibiotics, this little book can help guide you back to health using probiotics to restore the health of your intestines. Our environment is full of toxins that permeate our water, air, and food so if you are looking for natural ways to be healthy in today’s world, this book is a must read.
Because I have 25 percent Cherokee blood running through my veins, I feel I am awakening and drawn toward Native American traditions more and more. But since this book pulls comparisons with Norse mythology, it has taken me down into a new level of understanding my ancient past. Some truths cannot be told directly, so having the advantage of a master storyteller who can render deep spiritual truths in a form that I can understand is invaluable for me and anyone seeking the hidden secrets of our human nature.

The term evolution of consciousness is fairly new in our civilization. Why? Because we have traditionally linked evolution with biology. But the truth is that we have evolved physically about as far as we need to, and now we are starting to realize that consciousness, not survival of the fittest, is the driving force behind evolution. Calleman doesn’t really get into it but the reason this interested me is that I see consciousness evolving into realms unheard of, such as artificial intelligence for instance. In the same way that this book put light on my personal research into AI, it will shed light on many topics of interest, including ancient civilizations and religions.

DOWSING TO Get Rid of Bad Habits
By Margaret VanLaanMartin
D
owsing is simply the ability to connect to one’s higher state of guidance ... to ask questions and get answers. From a simplistic scientific perspective, it is the ability to access information available through the right side of our brains (in the Western world most individuals operate almost exclusively through the left side of their brains). So by expanding our abilities to use a greater proportion of our brains ... whole new possibilities are now available to us in our lives. Dowsing is a tool used to instantly connect with our subconscious— our higher self and our inner knowing. Dowsing is a search—looking for information or an answer. With dowsing, we have tools to empower our lives. The key to a successful dowsing session to stop a bad habit is to be clear in your mind about why you want to quit the bad habit. Dowsing is a process you can use to rid yourself of any of your bad habits. You can stop biting your nails, stop drinking alcohol, and stop eating specific foods such as french fries or ice
cream. You can also stop bad habits such as procrastination, being late, and various obsessions and addictions. You can even quit smoking. I was first introduced to dowsing for habit removal at a Gold Country Dowsers meeting; members offer fabulous information about dowsing and also give people a place to practice their skills. In the meeting I attended, the speaker asked for a member of the audience to volunteer for the demonstration. The woman decided which habit she wanted removed and I could psychically see the habit being removed through the dowsing process. I knew that this was something I wanted to offer my clients. I add to the dowsing session my energy healing and psychic abilities to look at where the habit is trapped in your body. I give you tools to replace the habit with something positive in your space that you really want. This process removes the habit energetically from your body so the habit will not easily return. I have found this to be an extremely successful process for the clients whom I have worked with and also for myself. The first time I did the dowsing for habit removal for myself, I removed caffeine, procrastination, and being 10 minutes late to appointments. The outcome is that I am never 10 minutes or any minutes late any more. The procrastination issue became something that no longer causes stress and anxiety. Before the dowsing, I put off everything
until it was drop dead and down to the wire—when you have to rush so much and don’t do your best work. Now I easily make time in my day to work on projects before deadlines. I stopped caffeine completely until about four years later when we were traveling in Portugal. I decided to have coffee then because of the type of coffee and how it is served with heated halfand-half. I chose to start that habit again even when my body warned me by getting shaky and dizzy from the caffeine. In later dowsing sessions I chose to remove french fries, ice cream, and doughnuts. After the sessions, I had no craving for the products and actually became ill when eating them. Then I traveled to Africa and at almost every meal we were served fried potatoes, which are french fries. Interestingly, when I came back I had absolutely no desire for french fries and have not had a single one since. This is a completely different experience from my caffeine experience, so dowsing is a great tool—it is very successful and you are in complete control of the outcome. For dowsing to be most effective for getting rid of bad habits, you must be very clear and specific about the bad habit

Special Interest that you want to quit. Be clear about how the bad habit has affected you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. And you must be clear about why you want to stop your bad habit, followed by what energy you intend to put in its place. As an example, you wouldn’t want to say, “I want to remove sugar from my life.” Rather, it would be better to say, “I want to remove ice cream from my life” (and only if you really do want to remove ice cream from your life). Being specific is important. Because there is going to be a space left in your body that used to want ice cream, you will need to choose something else that you really like to replace it with. Unless you are a fiend for broccoli, even with dowsing you won’t get as good a result unless you choose a replacement you are crazy about. So choose something you like that is realistic, perhaps fat-free flavored yogurt or something you can envision yourself easily enjoying. When you were young you assimilated the life around you; the behavior patterns you observed helped you to fit into your family and society. But the family may not have been the best, society has changed, and the patterns may have been misinformed anyway. Negative situations occur in life that you might think you have overcome and forgiven, but perhaps you have not. When a similar situation comes up, your anger will reappear suddenly without your even knowing why. We also hang onto behaviors we were taught as children. Perhaps your mother gave you a treat when she wanted you to do something for her that you didn’t like to do. Or she gave you candy to be
quiet around the house, or to calm you down when you were hurt or upset. When you are older, you will give yourself treats for the same reason, and because you handle the money and the goodies, you may overdo the treats and become very overweight, and you won’t realize that it was your childhood that trained you to do these things. Another way to use dowsing to interact with your subconscious is when you want to make a major change in your life. If you are calling on willpower to lose 20 pounds, or quit smoking, or tackle a big project, check to make sure your subconscious is in agreement. If your subconscious doesn’t want the change to happen, most likely it won’t. That is worth repeating: You will not be successful in reaching your goals unless your subconscious is open to the idea. Anytime you call upon willpower to make some sort of change, you are using your logical, rational, conscious mind to set it in motion. You will spend a lot of time thinking about your goal, perhaps drawing up a detailed plan that you can put into action. You tell yourself, “I can do this. I will put these steps into action and I will succeed.” But there are many times when that’s not enough. It is not lack of willpower; it is a tug of war between the conscious and subconscious mind! Understanding what is going on inside the subconscious mind is a good place to start dowsing, because the process

Do You Have Fall & Winter Allergies?
M
ost people think of allergies as a spring thing but allergies are becoming increasingly more common for many people in the fall and winter. Some of the more common fall and winter allergens include pollen, mold, pet dander, dust, dust mites, feathers and fiber, and wood smoke. When inhaled, the particulate matter from these substances enters the nose and passes into the small ducts of the bronchi, causing mild to severe symptoms. Inhalant allergens may affect not only the respiratory system but the gastrointestinal and immune systems as well. These types of allergies are all known as “inhalant allergies”—
the fall and winter than in the spring and summer. • • • • • • •

substances that are naturally inhaled while breathing—and they can become more pronounced because people are usually inside their homes more often in
MMy E. Ewing, DC
Here are just a few of the reasons you may experience allergic responses during the fall and winter: • The chill of the season prompts you to close your windows and turn on your furnace or wood-burning stove. This circulates smoky and dusty airborne particulates. • You tend to hang out with

Body & Mind your pets more during these cold and rainy months, increasing your exposure to pet dander. • You tend to sit on your couch and lounge in bed more often on those dark mornings, creating the conditions for feathers and fibers to start bothering you or for dust mites to set up housekeeping with you. • The rainy, damp days naturally produce more household mold and mildew. • You are a gardener and harvest in the fall, releasing pollen and mold spores from your plants. If you recognize yourself doing any of these activities, you may become symptomatic in the fall and winter. In addition, if you are already a person who experiences food or chemical sensitivities, it should not surprise you that you are also more likely to experience an inhalant allergy response(s). Inhalant allergies can be extremely difficult to sort out. Part of the problem is that there are three main sources of allergens that are nearly impossible to avoid which explains why we can have an allergy anytime of year, not just in the spring. Allergens are found in the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the chemicals
we are exposed to daily in our homes and environment. Household dust, for example, can be broken down into 18 organic products and 14 inorganic products, depending upon its source! A lot of resources exist to help people make lifestyle changes in their environment to mitigate the impact of
the allergens they become sensitive to. But that can be a tough job when we breathe more than two tablespoons of solid particles every day! Or that mold and pollen spores can travel for 15 to 20 miles in an agricultural region such as ours during the fall harvest season. Or an average six-room house accumulates 40 pounds of dust in a year … no matter how well we clean our houses! If you suffer from indoor allergies in the fall and winter, it’s simply not a viable
solution to start living outside. “You may have gone to your doctor for testing but were told you do not have any or many allergies. But you know that something is definitely bothering you. Why the discrepancy? Because your doctor tested only for allergies, not sensitivities. The fact is that far more people have sensitivities than allergies— which can go undetected by traditional allergy testing.”— Dr. Patrick Giammarise, DC, IHS, Allergy and Digestive Relief Center Allergy Symptoms Make ID Complex While there are some common symptoms to inhalant allergies such as sneezing, scratchy throat, runny nose, itchy, red, or watery eyes, and hoarseness, there are also both systemic symptoms and specific symptoms to each kind of allergen. Symptoms systemic to inhalant allergens include headaches, swollen lymph glands, panic attacks, cold- and flu-like symptoms and gastrointestinal problems. Eighty five percent of pollen, for example, ends up in our stomachs! And once inhaled, mold allergies not only colonize in our noses but also in our tummies because they love those dark, moist places.

When allergic symptoms become systemic, they naturally compromise our immune system as it works to fight off the fungal (e.g., mold), and parasitic (e.g., dust mites) allergens. Systemic bacterial and viral infections may also result because of an overwhelming histamine release and the mucus production that often accompanies an allergic response. Symptoms specific to each type of allergen include, for example, if the whole eye is itchy, then a pollen allergy is more likely to be the cause but if only the inner corner of the eye is itchy it’s more likely to be a food allergy—yet there is no itching of the eyes (or nose) if it’s a mold allergy! Or pollen allergies are worse outdoors from 8am to noon whereas a mold-sensitive person experiences a worsening of symptoms between 5 and 9pm. How We Can Help Here at the Allergy and Digestion Relief Center, we work to understand these subtle differences so that we can identify the allergen(s) and then

desensitize or “reprogram” the brain and the immune system so that you are no longer sensitive. If you have tried shots, antihistamines, and avoiding exposure, then maybe it’s time to consider a different approach—a desensitization treatment so that your body no longer identifies the substance(s) as a foreign invader. If your allergies are acting up this fall or winter, or if you would simply like to strengthen your immune system

Questions for
Dr. Gayle Kimball Tune in to KZFR 90.1, where “Ask Dr. Gayle” broadcasts 6-7pm the second Thursday of each month. Q: I’m warm and open at work but close down when I get home to my family that I love. What’s up? A: You learned as a child to cope with family drama by closing off and disassociating, which may be all a child can do unless he or she has a helpful adult outside of the nuclear family. It’s likely you are hypervigilant due to PTSD. Therapists have many ways of clearing stuck trauma, including identifying triggers with cognitive behavioral therapy, energy psychologies such as EFT and EMDR, organizing support groups, and suggesting relaxation skills such as meditation. Exercising also helps the nervous system get unblocked. Repeat mantras such as “I’m safe and now in control of my life.” Plan fun family activities so you change the unconscious associations of family with pain to enjoyment. Q: If happiness is a state of mind, what do I need to know? A: Get some ideas from Yale’s most popular course; it’s about happiness and the notes are online: bestlifeonline.com/ yale-happiness-course/.
Gayle Kimball has a PhD in Religious Studies, UCSB. Author of Energy Tools book, DVDs, and CDs and a dozen other books. Her recent books are about how global youth are transforming our future. To ask a question for this column, contact EarthHavenChico@hotmail.com.
A: There’s a whole field of complementary and alternative medicine (nccih.nih.gov/) or integrative medicine. Dr. Andrew Weil developed a certificate program you might want to explore (integrativemedicine.arizona.edu/), including online courses. Q: My parents didn’t have a satisfying marriage so I realize that I view marriage with fear and trepidation, although I’m in my late 20s. I know this gets in the way of attracting a good relationship although I’m told I’m an attractive guy. Solutions? A: Part of solving a problem is to name it, bring it to consciousness, understand it as in cognitive therapy. Start replacing the old thought pattern by spending time with model couples or watch TV sitcoms with loving marriages. Energy psychologies such as Emotional Freedom Technique help remove stuck emotional blocks. Put energy into meeting women without any expectations—just explore and get to know new people. Watch out for the defense of protecting yourself from change by going out with emotionally distant women.
Q: I just started a new decade of my life and am dealing with becoming older. Suggestions? A: Dr. Weil said, “My view is that Q: I’m a nurse but am disillusioned graceful aging has the potential to bring with the for-profit medical system. greater worth and enjoyment to human Ideas? life, much as wine, whiskey, and GET HEALTHY, SAVE MONEY & WIN PRIZES! cheese can become Sign Up For Our Free Newsletter & Receive… more valuable • 5% to 50% Savings on Natural Health Services/Products with the passage of time, garnering • Entry to Win Monthly Prizes enhanced taste, • Free Insight Directory E-Subscription texture, and It’s Easy to Join at www.insightdirectory.com Healthy Living richness. When I was growing up, he wasn’t present for me emotionally, although he was there physically. How can I work through this so I can have a good relationship with him? A: Therapist and author John Bradshaw suggests that as adults we learn how to parent our inner child. Read his Homecoming: Reclaiming and Championing Your Inner Child. Acknowledge your angry boy but don’t let him run your emotional show. Bradshaw suggests asking a question with your dominant hand and answering with your nondominant hand as a way to learn about your subpersonalities. Writing down your dreams are of course another way of becoming aware of your inner child’s emotions. Q: My adult son is ruining his life with his reliance on beer to feel happy and cope with challenges. What can I do? A: Since he’s an adult, all you can do is suggest that he get help in finding another way to feel OK and you go to a codependents’ anonymous group. Make sure you don’t enable his addiction in any way. Q: I tend to feel I should care for others but not myself. Any hope for me? A: Remind yourself that you’ll do a better job of helping others if you’re centered and grounded, as explained in my Mind Power workshop and Essential Energy Tools book and videos. Think of yourself as a well that nourishes the village, but only if it’s full. www.lotusguide.com

Recipes By Dawn DeSoto, RD, CDE
T
he recipes that we are featuring in this issue of Lotus Guide are a simple, but delicious, coleslaw recipe and a mushroom nut ball recipe. Coleslaw is a wonderful way to incorporate cabbage, a cruciferous or Brassica family vegetable, into your diet. The cruciferous family contains many vegetables, including cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower. Cruciferous vegetables contain glucosinolate, which converts to sulfornaphane when we chew the vegetable. This powerful phytonutrient helps the liver rid itself of toxins. I try to include a cruciferous vegetable in my diet daily. The mushroom nut ball recipe features mushrooms. Mushrooms are not all equally medicinal. Choose shiitake or maitake mushrooms for the phytonutrient eritademine, which encourages the body tissues to absorb cholesterol and lower the amount circulating in the blood. Also, both of these mushrooms have antiviral and anticancer properties. I am always so astonished by the amazing healing properties of plant foods. Enjoy!
Mushroom Nut Balls
3 cups sliced mushrooms 3/4 cup pecans 3 tablespoons rolled oats 1 garlic clove, minced 2 tablespoons tahini 2 teaspoons tamari 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon chili flakes
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place the pecans and oats into a food processor and process until all the pecans are chopped. Add garlic, mushrooms, tahini, tamari, cumin, oregano, and chili flakes. Process until well combined and nearly smooth. Roll the mixture into small balls and place on a baking tray. Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes or until firm to the touch.

The Many Roles of
Being A Midwife
By Chris Kam
I
f you, or most anyone else for that matter, were asked what the roles of a midwife are, chances are your answers would center around a single word: pregnancy. And you’d be right! And yet, when it comes to the roles of midwives,
their skills and talents extend far beyond just that! Part of a midwife’s job does indeed involve working with mothers— both before, during, and after the arrival of their precious little ones. And for any mothers who are looking to ease the many stresses and incoming emotional, physical, and practical challenges of pregnancy and birth, midwives offer an amazing path for them—a path involving care with a holistic emphasis as well as a closer and more personal relationship between the mother and her caregiver. And yet a midwife’s job goes far beyond the commonly assumed role of tending to pregnancy by extending to care for women across all ages and walks of life: from before menses and through menopause. With many years of clinical qualifications and education behind them, many midwives stand equipped to
help both younger and older women deal with the unique challenges and aspects of life that they encounter along the way. For many teenage women who stand on the edge of the oftenintimidating journey that is adolescence, midwives are there to reach out to help them both physically and psychologically. They seek to meet those needs by helping to educate them: teaching them about normal body functions, how to care for their bodies, and how to protect both themselves and their health as they mature. For those who are further along on life’s road, midwives are there to provide the same degree of warmth, holistic caregiving, and clinical expertise to those who are going through menopause—a period of significant physical and emotional changes equal to those of adolescence. Midwives tend

Special Interest not only to menopause itself, but also to everything that happens before, during, and after menopause by seeking to advocate for and educate woman through this period of their lives. Some even go as far as to specialize in the area of menopause. They, like all midwives, seek to practice “whole woman care” that emphasizes natural treatments and lifestyle adjustments over pharmaceutical drugs. The hospital of Adventist Health Feather River (AHFR) and its staff understand the importance of providing holistic care alongside traditional clinical approaches. As a result, AHFR has benefited greatly from a longtime inclusion of midwife services in many of its practices. Cheryl Struve, the midwife supervisor at AHFR, commented on the long history that the hospital has shared with midwives, stating that it has “had a certified nurse midwife on staff for the last 33 years.” Cheryl also notes that “during those years, 12 special ladies, all different certified nurse midwives, have faithfully
served the women at Feather River Hospital and met health-care needs of all women in our community.” Confident in the quality of the hospital’s midwives, Cheryl went on to discuss how thousands of babies at the hospital have been delivered by the midwives at Feather River Hospital; they’ve helped to innovate change and improve the standard of maternity care. Cheryl said, “I would not have spent my entire career as a midwife at any place less than ‘The Best.’” In October, Cheryl, along with the other highly qualified midwives from her team, will be providing their surrounding community with more information and resources about the people and practice of midwifery. “Movies with the Midwives” occurs each week throughout October and is a wonderful opportunity for anyone to come and learn, meet, and interact with the earnest and caring women behind AHFR’s midwifery team. Every Thursday night of the month the midwife team will be setting up a
combination of informational videos and discussions about many different aspects of midwifery, such as their general roles, health and safety during pregnancy and birth, and the care involved with women during the time of menopause and beyond. ARE WE THE MASTERS OF OUR DESTINY? CLIMATE, ECONOMIC, & HUMAN CONFLICT CYCLES
Interview with Gregg Braden
Our interview with Gregg Braden is the third in a series of interviews we did with Bruce Lipton and Joe Dispenza on a variety of subjects that focus on taking back our power by being responsible, not only for ourselves but for the world around us. Gregg is an internationally renowned pioneer in bridging science, spirituality, and the real world we all live in. Gregg’s accomplishments and rewards are far too numerous to list but the fact that his discoveries have been shared in 33 countries and 38 languages speaks for itself. In recent years he has presented his seminars and trainings to Fortune 500 companies, the U.S. military, the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, ABC, and NBC. Lotus Guide: I know this hour is going to pass by rather quickly so let me just dive straight into this. Gregg Braden: I will follow your lead, brother, wherever you would like to go. LG: OK … here we go. Many years ago, Plotinus said, “Mankind is poised midway between the gods and the beasts.” Now with science coming back into the picture with genetics and DNA research, it is clear that Darwin’s theory is unraveling but not in the way organized religion was hoping.
GB: Well, the unraveling has been happening for 150 years from the time that Charles Darwin proposed his theory of evolution in 1859; immediately mainstream scientists at that time were not on board with with his theory, and my newest book, it’s called Human by Design. I’ve actually got quote after quote after quote from very well-known scientists from the 1850s all the way up into the the late 20th century, because the thinking is that all scientists are on board with this idea, with this story, and the reality is that the story has had problems from the very beginning. So the unraveling is actually happening in mainstream perception. My book is based on peer-reviewed science so I hope it will help clear up some of the misconceptions. What’s changed in the last five or six years is that the DNA evidence is showing that we did not evolve from the Neanderthal; it shows clearly that we appeared suddenly on Earth around 200,000 years ago. The real question is “where did we come from” because there appears to be no evolutionary path; we just showed up. [Gregg went deep into the forensic DNA evidence showing that our genome has been tweaked, that there’s been a genetic fusion in Chromosome #2, for example, that
cannot happen under natural conditions. Chromosome #2 gives us the abilities of empathy, sympathy, and compassion. This is backed up in an interview I did with Dr. Bruce Lipton on this subject.] It’s interesting that there’s been a reversal in Chromosome #7 that gives us the ability for complex speech. We might say that Chromosome #2 and #7 were a fluke but they happened at the same exact time around 200,000 years ago. Let me be clear on this; I’m a scientist and I do believe in evolution in most forms of plants and animals, but the theory breaks down when it comes to humans. LG: The next obvious question is: “What caused this genetic manipulation?” GB: Well, at this point we really don’t

Rahasya Uncensored know. The problem is that in the academic circles and universities, they are following the wrong story so we need to come to grips with this and realign ourselves with new evidence. As a scientist I lost credibility in the scientific circles the moment I started talking about spirituality, but this gives me the freedom now to speak about things like this as I see them that are backed up with hard evidence. I want to make a distinction because there’s a huge difference between trying to fit all of the evidence that is recovered into a preexisting story or theory, which is what we’re trying to do now, or following the evidence and allowing the evidence to tell us the new story, and my invitation for mainstream science is to do just that—to allow our young people to follow the new evidence to the story it tells so we can answer the question that you’ve just asked, which is what caused this genetic manipulation? Now, as a scientist I cannot tell you what or how that happened. However, I have sat down with and
studied many indigenous tribes and cultures all over the world and every one of them that I studied says the same thing, which is in our distant past we had intervention from what they perceived to be “the gods.” As we start getting into the science, we get into an area called “Forbidden Territory,” which implies that there was an intentionality in what happened suddenly to our DNA, which implies that there was a purpose and we are more than random mutations. I’ve sat down and had long conversations with Bruce Lipton and Joe Dispenza about the fact that we are the only species that can “self-regulate our biology,” meaning that we can do things like activate anti-aging enzymes, access deep states of intuition, and choose to go into a gamma brain state that Joe Dispenza talks about that’s necessary for healing. This is only possible because of the changes that were made in our DNA 200,000 years ago. The possibility that we were and are intended to access these extraordinary states of consciousness opens the door to many latent abilities.

many “spiritual” friends who stay in touch with the reality around them and take corrective actions—civil disobedience, protest, and so on. But I have other “spiritual” friends with whom I can’t even bring up things like geoengineering or vaccinations because they are afraid that by giving it energy they will manifest it in their world. Anyone who thinks knows that we are at the edge of the cliff right now, so I was wondering how you balance this in your own life. [I really hope you go to YouTube.com/LotusGuide and watch this interview because there are many subtle nuances that would require pages to transcribe but are very important.] GB: That’s a complex question so let me say this: We are all on a spiritual journey, a journey of discovery and defining our relationships with each other and the cosmos. The problem with the New Age Movement, and I saw this starting back in the ’80s, people will take these ideas and take them to the extreme. I have friends who are in that same place also;
they are in the extreme with some of the New Age ideas, like if they think about something it will manifest in their lives. This is where well-grounded science comes in because with all its shortcomings, it can help us weed out a lot of these ideas that simply are not true. I have five friends who tried to heal themselves with New Age principles but never followed through and they are no longer with us. Some of the New Age principles have been with us for a very long time and they can be found within many of the indigenous cultures still today. [We went on to discuss how thoughts need to be infused with emotional energy to give them any power to manifest. We talked about chemtrails, Fukushima and the radiation that’s being released still, and how those are realities that need to be addressed, not only on the spiritual/consciousness level, but also in our three-dimensional reality. Gregg Braden is an artist when it comes to making very complex problems clear enough for solutions to appear.

After my interviews with Gregg Braden, Bruce Lipton, and Joe Dispenza, my feeling is that the conflict we see in religion and science has to do with polarized perceptions and agendas that limit our understanding. Most people who take a stand on this debate try desperately to fit new facts into their theories instead of opening up to the idea that the truth might lie deep within other views. In my talks with Bruce Lipton he showed me how science, especially in the academic circles, is guilty of this and even call some of their theories a “dogma” in their textbooks.] I’m going to slide in one more of the many questions I asked that seem to be pertinent in today’s world.

Rahasya Uncensored GB: The veil or curtain has been pulled back for a long time. I think what’s happening now is that people are becoming aware and they are open to that awareness because they see the world is changing and this is forcing people to be open to new ideas. This is something I’ve talked about for a very long time. As a scientist I recognize cycles in nature and cycles aren’t talked about here in Western science very much. We’re living in the convergence of three cycles that we’ve haven’t seen in over 5,000 years. The climate cycles, economic cycles, and human conflict cycles that follow natural rhythms; all of which are converging and they’re turning our world upside down and people now recognize that something has to change, and the only things that are lighting up when the veil is pulled are the things that are not sustainable, and all the things that are sustainable and true are no problem. It’s the unsustainable things that are based on lies or based on false thinking that show up as problems. The big difference is that many people are waking up to a higher level of consciousness that responds and takes action when faced with truth … no matter how difficult it may be. I have a lot of respect for some good politicians out there but the system is so broken it’s very difficult, even with the best of intentions I think, for politicians to do what their hearts lead them to do. At this point Gregg told me an interesting story, one that I have run into myself, about a gentleman who came up to him at a talk in Washington, DC. The person was from an undisclosed agency and he told Gregg that there are many people within the government
who are familiar with some of the things Gregg was talking about and who know the time for change is upon us. He went on to say some very interesting things that are going on behind the scenes and his respect for whistleblowers. This came up when I interviewed Kevin Shipp, an ex-CIA agent turned whistleblower and the author of A Company of Shadows. I spoke to him of my concern on covering these topics and putting myself out there and his response was, “You should not be concerned; there are millions of us waking up to the need for a new vision of the world we live in and the need to stand up for what’s right and true.” But we are living in a world that is going through a huge transition and that is always filled with danger, but the time for hanging on to old, outdated, and aggressive thinking in a world filled with advanced technology would be far more dangerous in my opinion. Bertrand Russell once said that he would never die for his beliefs because he could be wrong, I would add to that that I would never kill for my beliefs … because I could be wrong. The one thing I know I’m
not wrong about is the fact that we all have a right to live on this planet and pursue our path toward awakening and leaving this planet a better place than when we came. … I sincerely thank everyone who reads my articles and understands that this is the foundation and intent of everything I do If you want to open your minds, watch my interview with Gregg Braden, Joe Dispenza, and Bruce Lipton in which we touch on these ideas and many more on YouTube.com/LotusGuide and you can listen to them on my radio show at BBSradio.com/SpiritualActivist, which is a nonprofit community-supported radio show. HOW DID WE GET HERE?
T
he short answer to this question is “apathy and greed.” But considering the fate of our children, our country, and the world, let’s look at some specifics that address the problem. I think it’s well worth our time to look deeply and seriously into this subject. I was recently invited by Golden Road Television to speak at its event on the importance of independent media in today’s world. My talk focused on how we are living through a transition of power and that the Internet is the Gutenberg press of the 21st century, giving us all the opportunity for almost unlimited access to information. But I cut myself short to focus the attention on the amazing women who were speakers on the panel. The question “How did we get here?” comes from a comment someone made at the event. We actually have mothers and fathers going into our school systems and asking, “Could you please stop spraying our children with toxic and carcinogenic poisons?” So how did we get here, when a question such as this doesn’t raise alarms? That’s where apathy comes in and in my
opinion, the greed comes in from the corporations who are spraying us, but I think it’s more important at this point to find out how we can make this question a thing of the past. This is where we need to start listening to women such as Kathleen Hallal, a former PTA leader who led a successful effort to eliminate glyphosate use in Irvine, California (glyphosate is one of the ingredients in Monsanto’s RoundUp). Her speech was inspiring and informative because she laid out the exact steps for addressing the problem. The statistics on the increase of cancer in children are staggering, not to mention the rise in autism. At this rate it will take the entire global financial resources and population to take care of those affected by toxic chemicals released into our environment. I could continue with the environment, our collapsing financial situation, corrupt and broken government agencies, water and air pollution, geoengineering programs, and
more, but something Kathleen said makes total sense: “Pick a battle you know you can win; then go to the next battle with that win under your belt.” We can win this battle to stop spraying our schools and parks with toxic poisons such as RoundUp. Why? … Because when it comes down to what’s important, our children have to be put at the front of the line and no one can argue with that without showing his or her true colors. And if you think the Environment “Protection” Agency (EPA) is going to protect us, forget about it. I had someone

WE LIVE IN TWO BODIES:
Science Confirms Ancient Spiritual Teaching
By Joseph “Puru” Selbie
H
ave you ever seen a glow of light around someone? It can happen when the ambient light is not too bright and especially when you are in a calm and mellow mood. Have you ever felt a shared electric thrill pass through you at a concert when everyone rises to his or her feet? It often happens when a crowd-pleasing piece is played. Have you
ever been moved by sound that seems to come from nowhere and everywhere? It can happen when we are alone and in a quiet space. If you have, you’re not crazy. The light you see is real. It’s not some afterimage like one caused by a camera flash. And what you feel is real. You really are sharing the feelings of other people; they aren’t just your own. Those sublime sounds you hear are real as well — unless it’s Elvis thanking you for writing all his best songs, in which case, yes, you need help. For those of us not hearing from Elvis, the mystics explain these experiences as evidence of our subtle energy body. According to them we live in two bodies. One is our physical body, which our senses reveal to us, and the other is a subtle energy body, or astral body, that our intuitive perception reveals to us. The mystics go further and say that the physical body is created, sustained, and controlled by the subtle energy body—that the physical body is the sock of a sock puppet and the subtle energy body is the hand inside the sock. the hand, the sock puppet is just a lifeless, well, sock. You might think that science can give no support to the reality of such woo-woo concepts, but string theory, especially the branch of string theory known as M-theory, gives us a scientific framework to help us understand how such subtle energy can exist. M-theory suggests that we continuously and simultaneously exist in two realms — in our three-dimensional physical universe, and in a vast, hidden-to-the-senses, twodimensional, pure-energy realm they call the “bulk” (as in, “the bulk of the cosmos”). According to M-theory, the bulk, or energy-verse as I like to call it, is inconceivably vast — dwarfing the physical universe. In fact, M-theory suggests that an almost unlimited number of other physical universes could also exist in the energy-verse. The energyverse is filled with super–high-frequency vibrating rings and strings from which string theory gets its name. These rings and strings vibrate at frequencies too high for either our senses or scientific instruments to detect. Further, M-theory suggests that this ocean of high-frequency energies invisibly interpenetrates the physical universe at every point, like water saturating a sponge. Thus the rings and strings are invisible to our senses and yet surround and interpenetrate our physical body and world at all times.

Special Interest This is pretty much exactly the way astral or subtle energy is described by the mystics: We are surrounded by and interpenetrated with subtle energy. They tell us that our subtle energy body is the source of the light seen as our aura, our feelings, and much more. More significantly yet, M-theory also suggests that our entire physical universe is a holographic projection — and that the hologram from which it is projected exists completely, and only, in the vast ocean of the energy-verse. In our physical world, a hologram is a flat, two-dimensional film with which light can be made to interact to project a threedimensional image. According to M-theory, our universe’s hologram is a two-dimensional, light-template with which the high-frequency energy of the energy-verse interacts to project our entire three-dimensional physical universe into being. Got that? I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t. It takes getting used to. Try this: The hologram from which the physical universe is created exists as coordinated images of highfrequency light in the energy-verse. The high-frequency energies of the energy-verse then continuously interact with those coordinated light images to holographically project the physical universe into being.

Again, this is pretty much what the saints and sages have been telling us for millennia: The physical universe is created and sustained by subtle energy. “Everything was created of spirit matter [Intelligently guided highfrequency energy] before it was created
physically — solar systems, suns, moons, stars, planets, life upon the planets, mountains, rivers, seas, etc. I saw this process, and then, to further understand it, I was told … that the spirit creation could be compared to one of our photographic prints; the spirit creation would be like a sharp, brilliant print, and the Earth would be like its dark negative. This Earth is only a shadow of the beauty and glory of its spirit creation.” —Betty J. Eadie, near-death experiencer and author of Embraced by the Light. “All objects within my panoramic gaze trembled and vibrated like quick motion pictures. My body, Master’s, the pillared courtyard, the furniture and floor, the trees and sunshine, occasionally became violently agitated, until all melted into a luminescent
sea; even as sugar crystals, thrown into a glass of water, dissolve after being shaken. The unifying light alternated with materializations of form, the metamorphoses revealing the law of creation.” —Paramhansa Yogananda, Autobiography of a Yogi, from the chapter “An Experience of Cosmic Consciousness” And not a few scientists have said the same thing: “We must liberate man from the cosmos created by the genius of physicists and astronomers, that cosmos in which, since the renaissance, he has been imprisoned. We now know that we … extend outside the physical continuum. … In time, as well as in space, the individual stretches out beyond the frontiers of his body. … He also belongs to another world.” — Dr. Alexis Carrel, Nobel Prize winner Our second body is far more than a scientific novelty, however. It’s not just an amorphous cloud of energy. Our energy body is the “sharp, brilliant print” that produces our particular physical body and it animates, controls, shapes, and continuously sustains the holographic projection our senses perceive as our physical body. More important, most of who and what we are, in every moment, is not contained in the physical body. We are much more the (luminous) hand in the sock puppet than we are the (physical) sock.

In fact, according to the healers, psychics, seers, mystics, and saints who have highly developed intuitive perception, most of what we experience, most of what fills our awareness, most of what matters to us — our vitality and life force, our feelings, our creative will, our personality and character, and our experience of happiness, love, or joy — is actually seated in our interpenetrating subtle energy body, not in the physical body at all. More significantly yet, the mystics tell us that when we die these essential aspects of who we are continue to exist as they have always existed—in our nonphysical, interpenetrating energy body. The person we are today is very much the person we will be after death — only we will find ourselves existing solely in our luminous energy body in a luminous energy world — what most people think of as heaven or the astral regions. “The astral kingdom is a realm of rainbow-hued light. Astral land, seas, skies, gardens, beings, the manifestation of day and night — all are made of variegated vibrations of light. Oceans heave with opalescent azure, green, silver, gold, red, yellow, and aquamarine. Diamond-bright waves dance in a perpetual rhythm of beauty.”—Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi “In this way, our lives in this plane of existence are encompassed, surrounded, by the afterworld already. … The body dies but the spiritual quantum field continues. In this way, I am immortal.”—Dr. HansPeter Dürr, former head of the Max Planck Institute for Physics, Munich
“You don’t die when you die. You shift your consciousness and speed of vibration. That’s all death is … a shift.” —P. M. H. Atwater, near-death experiencer, NDE researcher, and author of Beyond the Light Since much of who we are lives on after death, you might think there would be little difference between what we experience now and what we will experience after we die. There is, however, a profound difference. Our subtle body is innately closer to the experience of our full divine potential. The saints and sages tell us that our natural state is joy beyond imagining. “[During my near-death experience] I became more blissful, more rapturous, more ecstatic. I was just filling and filling with this light and love that was in the light. The dynamics of this light are not static at all. They are so dynamic and so much going on in there of love and joy and knowledge. As you take it into yourself, or as it goes into you and you receive it, your ecstasy level just becomes tremendous.”— Jayne Smith, near-death experiencer But we don’t need to wait until we die to come closer to experiencing our higher potential—we can meditate and tap into it in the here and now. “Since my return [from my neardeath experience] I have experienced the light spontaneously, and I have learned how to get to that space almost any time in my meditation. Each one of you can do this. You do not have to die to do this. It is within your equipment; you are wired for it already.”—Mellen-Thomas Benedict, near-death experiencer

Meditation is a supremely effective tool for tapping into our joy-filled, peace-filled, and lovefilled energy body because — through relaxation, breathing, concentration, and stillness — meditation methodically turns our attention away from the physical body and allows us to experience our subtle energy body more and more fully. Meditation doesn’t make us calm and joyful: It allows us to experience the calmness and joy natural to our subtle energy body. In practicing yoga postures, it is not the act of relaxing the physical body through stretches and breathing that makes us become calm and joyful. Rather, the physical tension that was keeping us focused on the physical body has been released, allowing us to feel our natural state. Concentration and stillness similarly are effective, because they get us beyond our stream of thoughts and body sensations, freeing us to become aware of our energy body’s natural state of joy. When Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you,” he meant it literally. The more our awareness becomes centered in our subtle energy body, the more happy, fulfilled, loving, compassionate, energetic, and calm we feel. Expand your awareness of your subtle body. It’s the secret to health and happiness. Breathe in energy from your subtle body, and then relax and feel. Concentrate on your calm, still, center. And whatever you do, if you hear from Elvis, don’t believe everything he’s telling you. … Joseph (Puru) Selbie, author of The Physics of God, is known for creating bridges of understanding between the modern evidenced-based discoveries of science and the ancient experience-based discoveries of the mystics. He is a founding member of Ananda — a global spiritual movement inspired by Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi. A dedicated Kriya meditator for nearly 50 years, he has helped hundreds of people awaken to their own spiritual potentials throughout the United States and Europe. He has also written The Yugas, a factual look at India’s tradition of cyclical history, and a sci-fi fantasy series, The Protectors Diaries, inspired by the abilities of mystics.
