The 3rd Chapter of the Yoga By Tom Hess
T
he third chapter of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali starts with the last three of the eight limbs of yoga. The sixth limb of yoga is dharana, the art of concentration, fixing the mind on something and keeping it there. The seventh limb is dhyana, or meditation, which is a deepening of the experience of concentration, and the eighth limb is the disassociation of the separateness between the meditator and the object of meditation. When the meditator comes to a certain point in his or her meditation, there is no difference between the object being meditated upon and the meditator.

Sutras of Patanjali These three limbs are often thought of as an everdeepening experience rather than separate experiences. Performing these last three limbs of yoga together is called samyama. In this state of mind, insight occurs about the seen by the seer. This is when the seer dissolves his ego to the point where true perception can occur of the object. And in this perception the lack of separateness becomes known. The most attractive part of the third chapter is the powers that are attained through this practice of the last three limbs of yoga, or samyama. These powers are called vibhuti. They occur for practitioners when they focus their meditation on a certain object. But it is described as not just meditation, but as the state of samyama mentioned above—a state of total absorption into the object meditated upon that leads to an understanding of the unity of all things. This type of meditation will give insight into these things: • Focusing on friendliness, compassion, and delight, one is imbued with these energies.

Body & Mind • Focusing on the body’s own form, it becomes invisible, and the power to perceive is suspended. • Focusing on the powers of an elephant, one becomes strong as an elephant. • Focusing on the moon leads to insight about the stars’ positions. • Focusing on the polestar leads to insight about the stars’ movements. • Focusing on the navel center gives one insight into the organization of the body. • Focusing on the pit of the throat removes thirst and hunger. • Focusing on the “tortoise channel,” one becomes steady. • Focusing on the crown of the head, one acquires the viewpoint of a perfect one. • Focusing on the heart brings one an understanding of his or her own consciousness. • Focusing on any of the senses will bring an enhancement of those senses. • Focusing on the flow of energy within the body, one can float over obstacles. • Focusing on the solar plexus, one becomes radiant.
• Focusing on the way sound travels through ether, one attains divine hearing. • Focusing on the aspects of matter, one masters the elements of nature. When practitioners master the elements of nature within themselves, it allows them to perceive the inner workings of the body. This leads them to a more perfected body with strength and grace. This allows them to not be bound by the limitations that are inherent within the normal being. This is what gives them the power to be as small as an atom or as powerful as an elephant. When one can see the distinction between pure awareness and the world around us, all conditions can be known and mastered. It is this deep understanding that occurs when the meditator moves beyond his or her ego and really integrates with the object of meditation. Then Patanjali tells us that these are just signposts along the way and that the real seeker needs to detach even from these powers, and only then can the real emancipation can take place. What Patanjali is saying is that these powers can be just another thing to get attached to, but in the end all things that are not the final goal are just distractions along the way.

P
Lotus Guide’s Networking Event
eople ask us, “What is the secret to Lotus Guide’s success?” It’s a number of things; you who read the Lotus Guide and support us by trusting the information and supporting our advertisers are a huge part. But the reason it all comes together is the quality of our advertisers, who through the years have become our friends. We recently had a Networking Event for our advertisers to come together and connect with each other, which they did; what was unexpected were the testimonies they all gave about their experience with being part of the Lotus Guide. We want to thank all of you who came, which were quite a few, and to say how much we appreciate all of you and the others in our magazine, because doing what we do gives us a lot of enjoyment and purpose in our lives … not to mention the fact that we stay pretty healthy. We suppose this might be an opportunity to also thank all of you who have given us the latitude and patience that are needed to write about controversial topics. We are finding ourselves at the crest of a wave that’s washing over the planet right now because of alternative media sources such as this magazine and our radio show. It tells a lot about a person or organization that is open and willing to listen to ideas they may not totally agree with or understand. This is why we can write about topics such as alternative and complementary health, allopathic treatments, religious and spiritual views, and UFOs all at the same time. Our world is trying desperately to break down the traditional barriers that separate us and at the same time maintain our integrity to our own truths … this takes a lot of conscious growth and inner understanding to accomplish in a world filled with disinformation and corporate media outlets that have agendas. We have played for centuries with our childish things and put them away as we entered our awkward and dangerous global adolescence, and now we are entering adulthood to find the wisdom of the age we live in and finding out that it’s not all that different from our ancient roots. We all have a driving desire to be the heroes of our own story and we thank all of you for playing such a huge part in helping us in our own journey toward being the hero of our story, the story of Rahasya and Dhara and our child that’s also coming of age … the Lotus Guide. Very sincerely, Rahasya & Dhara, publishers of Lotus Guide [The photos are of our Networking Event, where some pretty amazing people came to share their stories and connect with others who simply love to help other people.] A special thanks to Bill Unger, Susan Dobra, Michael DiMartino, Pam Jamian and Michael Gaughan for joining me in our music time during the event, and many thanks to Betty Gates for sharing her space.

adies, if you are 35-plus and your children have mastered most of what you’ve tried to teach them— they’re in their midteens, college, or adult life—you have earned the right to step away from the full-time “Mom” expression of who you are to reclaim your “woman” expression. Now is the time to return to the power of the deep feminine that filled you with joy and possibility for your life. When you were free and independent—before marriage, children, an 8 to 5 job, a mortgage, and whirlwind activities to keep up with—you had dreams of what your life would be like. Being pulled in different directions at once, you put your dreams aside; you became a part of the daily life around you, and you put your energy into meeting the demands from outside yourself. Wouldn’t it be nice to, once again, feel your own deep feminine energy welling up inside you seeking full expression in your life? I am adding a new facet to my practice, one that brings deep appreciation and enjoyment to our lives. I invite your participation and your collaboration as this takes form.
We will draw from ancient cultures that were thriving before the Romans overran their civilizations. Many were either matriarchal or equal societies. Much of their daily practice was Earthand nature-centered—observances of moon phases, seasons, the cycle of life, and life force in all things—weaving in ritual, giving every activity meaning and sacredness. Appreciation was given to the stillness of night, the freshness of morning, the sound of birdsong, the opening of a flower bud, and noticing as tiny orbs of life grew into fruits and vegetables that would nourish them. I coined the word fabulize to ENERGY WORK express the full, rich potential available Through Sound & Touch
to us, as womankind, in how we energize the world, bringing back an awareness that gave depth to the lives of our foremothers. We can fabulize every aspect of our daily lives while giving influence beyond our locality. As embodiments of the divine feminine, we bring sacredness, honoring, compassionate nurturing, cooperation, peacefulness, and natural beauty to nourish all life on this planet. We have this opportunity to remake the attitudes of war and control into peaceful cooperation and respect. The egoic energy that propels countries into war for domination and exploitation of people and resources, that pushes companies and individuals into fierce competition and takeover schemes, is being replaced by a higher consciousness. That consciousness is greatly aligned with the divine feminine aspect of creation. By reclaiming our feminine energy and expressing it in our lives as we interact with family, friends, coworkers, and the community at large, we seed the planet with it. What we nurture in ourselves, now, can ensure a better future. Visit YourConsciousnessKey.com

Make Yourself a New Past
By Leigh Ann Lipscomb, PhD

eet two friends, Emma and Louise. Emma and Louise are good friends and both in their early 50s. They live on the same street in Chico, share similar diet and lifestyle habits, and know many of the same people. Emma is happy, in superb health, has a great relationship with her husband, and has plenty of friends and money. On the other hand, Louise has a different sort of life. She battles poor health, including chronic fatigue and debilitating pain, has a difficult
relationship with her husband and her children, and struggles financially. Simply put, Emma thrives while Louise survives. Why does this happen? What causes the difference in the lives of these two women? What if I told you that the answer lies in what happened to these two women more than 40 years ago? Fascinatingly, this is indeed the case. Research has shown that the vast majority, up to 85 percent, of our beliefs are formed in early childhood. And, of course, the experiences we all have and the lives we lead reflect our beliefs—they are of paramount importance. Emma had a happy childhood with lots of love, play, and adoration from parents who loved each other, and her, immensely. She felt completely secure in a harmonious home life. Conversely, Louise had several events that were disturbing to her emotionally and physically at a very young age. Her parents fought, one parent had problems with alcohol, and
the stressful jobs they held left little time or energy for reading and playing with the young Louise. The effect of this difference in earlier experiences is that Emma and Louise manifest very different lives as adults. What we think matters, and the influence of childhood experiences on our subconscious thought as adults is tremendous. The Buddha taught that “all we are arises from the mind.” Those who lecture of the power of positive thinking may or may not realize that the vast majority—some even say up to 90 percent—of our thoughts and beliefs are subconscious. We don’t even know most of what we are thinking, yet subconscious thought greatly affects our reality. Again, up to 85 percent of our beliefs are likely formed between birth and 5 years of age. “Oh, no,” you say. “I had a very troubled childhood, and I know it is contributing to the challenges I am currently experiencing.”

And I respond, “Don’t worry. You’re in a position of power.” The integration of new physics and Buddhist psychology has provided a way to re-create childhood experiences for ourselves, and this is wonderful news. Through a simple process, the particular childhood experience that has significant contributions to our currentday problems can be identified. This is the first step in the process. The difficult emotions held in that experience can be addressed. Interestingly, they are often remarkably similar to what the person is experiencing in the present. The second step in the process involves identification of the limiting beliefs the person formed based on the
earlier experience. It is always amazing to watch as people start to disconnect from these limiting beliefs. Fascinatingly, the grip that the limiting belief has on the person often begins to lessen immediately, just in response to the simple act of identification and stating the belief out loud. The person can even start to look a little different, sometimes with a subtle glow, and have a much lighter countenance as his or her transformation begins to unfold. In the third, and most enjoyable, step, the person gets to decide what he or she wishes would’ve happened instead of the disturbing earlier experience. At this point, people are encouraged to think big and to know that the sky’s the limit. As the disturbing experience happened long ago, all that is left now is an image that is recorded in his or her mind. The image is held arbitrarily and the person can choose to replace it with something else. So, people can choose an image of an experience that makes them feel good (and this is very important). Having this new image recorded in their minds will create altered neural pathways for positive responses to life situations. Going back to Emma and Louise, with this process Louise’s life will improve and she can begin to thrive
like Emma instead of simply survive. This becomes more and more the case as Louise transforms disturbing childhood experiences one by one. These three steps alone are extremely powerful, but they are not enough in and of themselves for the creation of altered neural pathways. The three steps have set the mind’s intention to replace one mental image with another, but the human mind needs an activity for accomplishing the replacement. The activity is often remarkably simple. Some examples include color therapy, breath work, movement, cranial-sacral therapy, polarity contacts, acupressure, and much more. Taken together, these three steps can be used to overcome the vast majority of problems we face as adults. Some examples of problems include health and weight challenges, addictions, depression, relationship issues, social challenges, and much more. We are all in positions of power. It’s awesome to know that the quality and events of our lives can be improved as we decide to re-create earlier experiences and make ourselves a new past. Water Is Life By Phyllis Humber
W
hen searching for life on other planets and throughout the universe, scientists first seek to establish the presence of water. All life requires water, not only to exist, but to survive, thrive, and to be healthy. Life as we know it here on our mother planet, Earth, is contingent and is dependent on water and light. Without either, life could not exist. Water is life. Water is the only natural substance on planet Earth that can transform from solid to a liquid and to gas within the normal range of temperature. As we drink water, it moves through us, integrating itself into our cellular structure and taking stock of what is going on in every part of the body. It then communicates its observations to all other molecules
12
www.lotusguide.com
within our bodies to optimize the functional balance of the body. It is through water that instantaneous communication occurs between cells. Once water goes through the cell membrane (the skin of the cell), it is used for maintaining body temperature, absorbing nutrients and then delivering those nutrients to the brain and vital organs, eliminating wastes, and other cellular processes. Drinking water and absorbing moisture through our skin is key in getting and staying hydrated. Optimal body hydration is important for optimal cell hydration and function. About one third of the water in our bodies is extracellular and about two thirds is intracellular.
Summer is here and as the temperature rises, our thirst increases and instinctively we increase our liquid intake. There are so many choices to satisfy our thirst. There are some beverages that are our favorites and there are some that are trendy fads, but most of all we drink what tastes good to us. Whether eating or drinking, we generally do so without considering what effect our choices have on our cellular health. According to cellular biologist Bruce Lipton, what we eat has an
Body & Mind immediate effect on every cell of our body, including DNA. We alter our own genetic readout by the food we eat, and therefore we can change hundreds of genes simply by changing what we put in our mouths. If the food we eat has such a profound effect on us at the cellular level, all the way down to the expression of our genes, what else is happening to us on a cellular level? What about the water we drink? Water has an immediate effect on our cells as well. Water, like food, is nutrition. When we reach for water, our main concerns are taste, satisfying our thirst, and the purity of the water. For most of us, what is going on in our cells is not even a thought, let alone a concern. Water that has been electrolyzed in an ionizing alkaline water device is alkaline, hydrating, oxygenating, antioxidizing, and therefore, it enhances the healing power of the human body. The best way to get electrolyzed water is from a Kangen ionizing alkaline water device. This technology originated
in Japan and has been available here in America since 2003. Electrolyzed ionized alkaline water has a high pH of 8.5 to 9.5 and thus contains OH- ions, which are negatively charged, resulting in a negative oxidation-reduction potential (-ORP), which is an active antioxidant. In a recent article from the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition, “Molecular hydrogen (H2)” has been recognized and established as a greater antioxidant than OHions. The article goes on to show how molecular hydrogen/H2-rich alkaline water has neuroprotective effects. It is effective in preventing the onset of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and brain cell death. Molecular hydrogen/H2-rich alkaline water protects the health of the brain. Just think, if H2-rich alkaline water does all this and more for the brain, imagine what it can do and does do for the rest of the body. It also has therapeutic effects as an antiinflammatory and in various other
conditions such as mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic syndrome. We will cover this and more in the next Lotus Guide article and upcoming workshops. Changing your drinking water to Kangen ionized alkaline water is the best way to experience the benefits of H2-rich alkaline water. Stories of Healing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Fibromyalgia By Vickie Van Scyoc, RN, and Dr. Mark Light
C
hronic fatigue and chronic pain are common in today’s world. The core symptoms include feeling tired and achy. Many people also experience brain fog and an inability to sleep. Occasionally, chronic pain and fatigue sufferers also have chronic sinusitis, allergies, frequent infections, digestive disorders, depression, or confusion. The good news is that chronic fatigue and chronic pain are treatable! Chronic fatigue (CF) and chronic pain caused by fibromyalgia (FM) are often the culprits for these debilitating symptoms. Until recently these disorders were hard to identify and treat but new innovations in health and wellness research are helping thousands
of people find the relief they have been looking for. The symptoms are easy to identify but what is their source? The source of the symptoms for CF and FM is the same: a dysfunctional part of the brain, specifically the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus controls sleep, hormonal function, temperature regulation, autonomic function (blood pressure, pulse rate, bowel function, etc.) and some pain receptors in the nerves. When someone experiences CF or FM, it’s because the hypothalamus essentially has blown a fuse. Why? If CF or FM has a sudden onset, the cause can be a viral infection, parasites, bacterial infection, injury, or pregnancy. If there was a gradual onset of symptoms, CF and FM were likely caused by a yeast or Candida infection, autoimmune disease, hormonal or nutritional deficiencies, sleep disorders, or severe stress.
Fiona’s Forest
The treatment is the same for both conditions: Repair the broken fuse in the brain causing the uncomfortable symptoms.
SHINE
To repair the blown brain fuse, we use a five-tiered approach called the SHINE protocol, created by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum. Dr. Teitelbaum had CF and FM while he was a medical student. In fact, the pain forced him out of medical school temporarily while he was looking for his own cure. A well-known expert on FM, Dr. Teitelbaum has since written books on fatigue and appeared on national television and radio shows, including The Dr. Oz Show. SHINE stands for Sleep, Hormones, Immunity/Infections, Nutrition, and Exercise (as able). Body & Mind Tending to these can help you maintain healthy energy levels when you are well and can help support recovery when dealing with CF and FM.
Sleep
Get adequate sleep, preferably eight to nine hours a night. Sleep replenishes your body’s energy and helps heal your muscles. Inadequate sleep will leave you exhausted and in pain. Because your sleep center isn’t working if you are experiencing CF/FM, aggressive sleep support is necessary.
Hormones
Hormone deficiencies can contribute to CF and FM. Unfortunately, blood testing misses the large majority of people with hormonal deficiencies in these illnesses. The large majority of people with FM need to treat their thyroid in some way. If you get irritable when hungry, adrenal support is needed. Most men with CF/FM find that their testosterone level is in the lowest 30 percent of the population. If a
woman’s FM symptoms are worse around her menses, estrogen and progesterone support may be helpful. Low blood pressure (hypotension) is also a major contributor to CF and FM.
Immunity/Infections
Underlying viral, bacterial, bowel, sinus, and yeast infections are common and can be contributing causes of CF and FM, or even the result of it. Infections must be treated and the immune system supported and improved.
Nutrition
To maintain normal health and optimal energy levels you need to make sure you get an optimal balance of nutrients, particularly as nutritional deficiencies can result from CF and FM. Vitamin B-12, magnesium, acetyl L-carnitine, glutathione, as well as your basic A, B, C, and D vitamins are especially vulnerable to depletion. At Chico Integrative Health, we also offer advanced nutritional support with excellent supplements created by Inno-Vita.

The Art of
Allowing our Shadows
By Aeray Lumm
I
n the last article, we talked about what shadows are and how they play a role in our lives. Primarily, we focused on why “fixing, changing, or repressing” our shadows doesn’t work to bring real change, and that the path to real change lies in the art of “allowing our shadows.” In this article, we will go into more detail as to what allowing our shadows really looks like, and how exactly to do it.
When we begin working with our shadows, it takes time, and perhaps some trial and error, to find that razor’s edge that leads to real transformation. There are a lot of traps we can fall into, and it can be a confusing time. It is highly recommended when doing shadow work to find someone you can feel safe with, who can help to validate your experience and guide you through the “mire.” Some shadows dissolve immediately once we allow and accept them. Other shadows are stickier and take more time to unlock. Your journey will be influenced by your conditioning, core beliefs, community beliefs, and life experiences. You will need courage … but most of all, you need to be willing—willing to see what is true for you, willing to learn a new way, willing to let go, willing to to be patient, willing to observe, willing to allow something greater than you to “do it

for you.” Willingness … is everything. If you aren’t yet ready to face your shadows, there is nothing wrong with that. Are you willing to become ready at some point? This is the first step to allowing our shadows … willingness. The next step in allowing our shadows is to learn to observe ourselves objectively. We need to learn to have a detached awareness of “who we are” and to watch ourselves without interfering. This can take time! Once we can effectively observe ourselves, then the process of allowing can begin. Allowing is a passive practice; it is not a “doing.” Ultimately, we want to be able to allow whatever is happening/ whatever is (what you think, feel, do, and say) and to watch with curiosity instead of judgment. It’s detached non-identification with the traits or patterns arising. But this is not where we begin. We must begin where we are.
Body & Mind It is very difficult to immediately begin seeing and allowing shadows that we have been repressing or trying to fix for years. When we first begin the work of self-observation, we must be humble and honest enough to see where we are in our journey, and who we really are. It is important not to push past where we are. Undoing the layers of our shadow is like opening a combination lock. If we do not meet ourselves where we are, the shadows will not integrate and transform. So first we must look at our patterns of working with the shadow. We must look at the way we repress, react, try to fix, and change our shadows. The feelings we have about our shadows are hate, resentment, resistance (both toward our shadows and ourselves). We start here, by first allowing this. We must find the part of us that desperately wants the shadow to go away, and allow that. The idea is not to force ourselves past our edges, but to meet ourselves where we are. We continue to allow these patterns, but now with awareness, with our observer
mind. We have been using these patterns of repression and reaction to stay “safe” for so long that if we immediately force ourselves to stop, we can find ourselves feeling scared, unsafe, confused, and potentially traumatized. It’s important to take this process slowly, just noticing your shadows when they arise, and notice what you do to cope with them. Give yourself permission to experience them. Allow the feelings to come up as well—the shame, guilt, fear, anger, confusion. In the beginning your mind may resist allowing the shadows to be there, and that is normal. It is normal for the mind “not to be ready.” We often need to keep repeating our shadows or our coping mechanisms for some time. We Ener-ChiWellness.com • need to learn that “that part of us that CLEAR YOUR ENERGY wants to fix us” and Physical bodies from a Distance!! is OK too. Those Phone, Skype or In-person w/ Ty or Nora parts need to be Info@Ener-ChiWellness.com allowed before the or (925) 627-6880 Nevada City deeper shadows can Entity & Negative Energy Removal. Unique Orgone be allowed. It is natural, when we begin working with shadows that we have been
repressing for many years, to swing to the other end of the spectrum. We may begin “indulging” in these shadows, and for a time they may come heavily into our lives. This is OK and sometimes necessary. Just maintain the detached awareness and allow this experience as well. Shadow work is not for the faint of heart, and you will likely face feelings of confusion, fear, loneliness, being overwhelmed, frustration, and perhaps depression. You may experience a sense of grief over the loss of the idealized version of yourself you have been working so hard to become. Shadow work can lead to any manner of emotional crisis. If you feel called to embark on the journey of facing your shadows and integrating them, please consider finding someone who has taken the journey to support you. This can greatly expedite your process and help keep you from getting lost and wandering the shadowlands alone. Transforming shadows can be easy work when you understand the process, and it can be terrifying when you don’t. In all of my years of “spiritual seeking,” allowing has been the only real answer to working with shadows. It is beyond the spiritual path; it’s the path to becoming a whole, integrated human being … complete in all your emotional and spiritual human glory. It’s the path to being “bigger” beings instead of only “higher” beings—beings who are more grounded, more authentic, more here, and more alive. What’s in a FACE?
Foundations for Airway & Craniofacial Excellence By Julia Worrall, RN, Executive Director, FACE
D
o you ever look in the mirror and notice the asymmetries and flaws in your face? Of course you do—you’re only human—we all do it. But did you know that the imperfections in your face can relay underlying medical information with important health implications? Yes, the face, as with the entire body, has a lot going on beneath the surface. A part of us intuitively knows there’s something terribly wrong with the state of our health-care system. Modern medicine has certainly played an integral role getting rid of deadly diseases such as polio, smallpox, and whooping cough, alongside the invention of insulin with its key part in treating modern-day diabetes. Antibiotics, meanwhile, have also proved to be a huge advantage, helping overcome illness and curing illnesses that previously—let’s face it—people would have died from. Now there is a new problem to deal with: Big Pharma. Big Pharma has gotten filthy rich on the back of inventing cures to deadly and previously incurable illnesses, and it uses its vast resources to convince us that medication is the be-all and end-all answer to all our woes. And we’re finally starting to realize that this is a Big Lie. We have failed members of the general population by leading them to believe that the cures for their health come from outside of them. One thing that we aim to achieve through FACE Foundation
is to help providers to go back to the basics of anatomy and physiology to start paying attention to something so simple that it’s often overlooked: facial structure. More than beauty (or lack thereof), we’ve found that the structure of the face will determine its function. Its function—how you breathe, how you chew ... heck, even how you wink—has massive implications on your health and well-being. Take, for example, a child with scoliosis, his spine twisted so that he doesn’t stand up straight. Any medical professional worth his or her salt would have concerns about how the child’s underlying organs are and will continue to function as his condition develops and would take steps to correct his spinal alignment accordingly. But did you know that there also exists a condition called facial scoliosis? If you’re like most people, probably not. And think about the major underlying organs beneath our facial structure: brain, airway, and cranial nerves—life-force essentials. Yet, other than in terms of superficial beauty, no one is paying attention to the face. Knowing this, FACE Foundation has teamed up with medical, dental, and other health-care providers with the aim of realigning our facial structures and, in turn, our health. Rather than looking at a face and assigning an attribute of attractiveness or unattractiveness, we need to be looking at a face and assigning a functional appraisal—is there something we can correct to help the entire organism to work properly?
What we love about the group of people who are reading this magazine is that our readers’ minds are open to the possibility that we’ve been missing something. We are excited to share with you what recent science and research show in terms of getting back to the basics of anatomy and physiology. We have a keen eye on the development of the craniofacial structure by the power of the tongue and nasal breathing and its impact on the entire system, and we’ll continue to share developments with you as we discover and uncover them. We are eager to FACE the future together and revolutionize the world of medicine! Edited by Archipelago Communications. Spiral Up by Chloe Faith Wordsworth ISBN 978-1-937710-00-2 (Resonance Publishing)
This book combines ancient wisdom for well-being from a diverse array of sources and compiles them all into one substantial resource. There are six parts including process, sound, color and light, movement, breath, energy contacts, and essential oils. Each section contains 15-30 exercises. For example, the calming crossovers are helpful when stressed out about work, the sympathetic nervous system balancing is great for falling asleep, and the steam engine breath is amazing for digestion. There are also practical instructions for release of negative attitudes and beliefs. The instructions are clear and simple enough that anyone can use the exercises. The book empowers the readers to do significant healing on their own, without the help of a practitioner. Leigh Ann Lipscomb, Lotus Guide

The Metaphysical World of Isaac Newton: Alchemy, Prophecy, and the Search for Lost Knowledge By John Chambers ISBN-13: 978-1-62055-204-9 (Destiny Books, 2018)
This is probably one of the most up-todate books on a very old, if not ancient, form of healing. Tesla once said, “If you want to understand the universe, look at it as energy and frequency.” Edgar Cayce, “The Sleeping Prophet,” said the future of medicine will have to do with light and sound.” Being the publisher of a health magazine I have a pretty good insight into the wave of elevated consciousness that’s sweeping over this planet and it’s pushing all of us into a better understanding of what it means to be healthy and to stay healthy.
All I can say is that it’s about time we start looking at how academia has traditionally divorced our greatest thinkers from spirituality and metaphysics. This book shows a much deeper insight into not only “what” Isaac Newton thought, but “why and how” he arrived at some of his perceptions of our physical world. Einstein once said, “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind,” and this well-written and researched book portrays that truth in a way that will engage you from beginning to end.

This book was not what I expected but it turned out to be exactly what I was searching for. Most books on sex have to do with “doing” and less with the state of “being.” There are various ways to attain that state we are all searching for; one is applying the techniques that lead to physical fulfillment, but this book takes you down the road of being aware on subtle levels and “letting” your body awake to its natural state of arousal, a much more fulfilling and conscious state in which the neurochemistry of attraction plays a role along with the emotions of love.
When we think of ancient mysteries we normally think of Egypt and the Sumerian cultures, but when you read this book you start to realize something very profound … the further back in time you go the more you start to see that at one time, everything was connected on every continent, even the Americas. My favorite section was “The Soul of Matter” because it links everything with consciousness. History is being rewritten right before our very eyes.
This book will accomplish something almost sacred. As William Blake said, “If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite.” So much of what we “think” we are is determined by our reptilian brains, which keeps us on lower conscious levels of awareness. This book adds a dimension to my own understanding that if we live in a holographic simulation, an idea that many scientists lean toward, then tapping into the source code is something to consider when we journey through the inner sanctums of our minds seeking deeper meditative experiences.

Relieve Your Pain
With Magic Needle Therapy
By Michael Turk
T
oday, America is facing an opioid crisis. For every ache and ill feeling, there is a drug to turn the pain into numbness. At the same time, many people are seeking alternative healing remedies that are noninvasive and not addictive.
The Birth of a Natural Healing Remedy
Magic Needle Therapy Revealed 300 Years Ago: How It Can Help You Relieve Your Pain Today Magic needle therapy was a completely new method of treating pain when it was revealed by a Confucian scholar in 1717 in a best-selling self-help book, Great Ultimate Magic Needle Heart Method. One hundred years later the magic needle method was accepted into traditional Chinese medicine by a medical authority in China; interestingly; at this time it was also introduced into Western civilization as recorded in Western medical books. Despite the natural healing power one can experience from the “magic needle,” little is known about it in Western civilization today.
Applying heat is one of the most powerful and soothing ways to relieve chronic pain. This is where a moxa stick (magic needle) comes in. Anyone can feel the healing effects of these inexpensive and therapeutic remedies by holding the hot end of the moxa stick over an inflamed area. With repeated application, the lasting benefits outweigh the short time it takes to learn this Asian therapy technique. This brilliant innovation, coined suspended moxibustion, stimulates acupuncture points, which in turn release muscles while reducing pain swiftly. Additional benefits of moxibustion include improved circulation, strengthened immunity, and restored flexibility. When it comes to terminology, I prefer the term Asian medicine to describe theories and methods that originated in China. Since then, they have spread throughout Asia, with each country adopting the theories and adapting the techniques to its own culture. The words moxa, acumoxa, and moxibustion derive from the Japanese word mogusa (which means “burning of mugwort,” a plant of the daisy family). Since the Han dynasty (206 bc–220 ad), Chinese medicine boasts not only herbal remedies to ingest internally, but also an array of physical therapies that were first published 2,000 years ago and continuously refined.

Heat as a Natural Remedy
From the time of the Han dynasty (206 bce–220 ce), founding classics on Asian medicine described heating methods as placing a cone of moxa directly on the skin or on a button-sized spacer; when the patient said it was too hot, the therapist removed the burning cone. This method was not popular because of the high risk of blisters. Safer methods were sought during the Song dynasty (960 ad–1279 ad); for example, new methods were sought to reduce the risk of blistering. A revised method leveraged moxa rolled into a stick— the hot end of the stick was pressed against a layer of cloth or paper covering the skin, thereby providing more heat and a decrease in blisters. Then in 1717, during the early Qing dynasty (1644–1911), a Chinese Confucian scholar turned country doctor published a self-care book on the great ultimate magic needle, the first known book to describe burning moxa suspended over the skin providing radiant heat that stimulates the acupoint below and reduces pain. This innovative book on suspended moxibustion became a best seller in China for more than 100 years. The Confucian scholar wrote that a mysterious Taoist recluse calling himself “Purple Aurora” passed down the secret of heating acupoints without touching the body. The moxa stick looks like a needle, which may be why he called the stick the “grand ultimate magic needle” or simply magic needle.

Body & Mind
At the turn of the 18th century in Western civilization, suspending heat over an acupoint was a novel idea. A French battlefield surgeon, Baron Larrey (17661842), studied the new therapy in the 19th century when he traveled with the army to “the Orient,” as it was known then. His fascination with the healing power prompted him to write a book describing how to effectively apply heat for pain relief. While Larrey used moxa sticks on soldiers with remarkable results, the original magic needle moxa book, first published in 1717, was still a medical self-help best seller in China for more than 100 years. Larrey was Napoleon’s surgeon general, who after his military service (1797-1815) reported “happy and extraordinary results” on an assortment of disorders in his book, On the Use of the Moxa as a Therapeutic
Agent (1822). While Larrey testified to remarkable results in morbid cases, he also reported on his failures; he surgically examined his patients after death. He reported moxa pressure softened the scar tissue and restored circulating blood for up to three to four inches even through the bones of the skull. As a result of these experiments and observations, he preferred using the moxa therapy on his patients, both soldiers and civilians. Larrey asked his student, Robley Dunglison, who was studying with him as part of his education to become a surgeon, to translate his book into English. In his book, Dunglison praised the “moxa stick method” of relieving pain taught by his teacher, who had mastered the use of the burning stick suspended over the body.
Great, Ultimate Magic Needle Methods
of the magic needle in his writings, this new, safe method gained popularity with acupuncturists and massage therapists. Xiuyuan’s writings have continued to influence the writing and experimentation of the moxa method.
Robley Dunglison
Robley Dunglison (1798-1869), the first great American medical writer and the father of preventive medicine, wrote more than 30 medical books. Dunglison described moxibustion and acupuncture as counterirritants in General Therapeutics (1836). The entry under “Actual Cauterants” (p. 339) discussed moxa: “Accordingly, the use of the moxa has … nervous influence; and many deep-seated pains have yielded to it, which had resisted the action of the ordinary counterirritants, though repeatedly applied.” While discussing revulsive medicine (p. 338), Dunglison described using strong counterirritation to drain toxins in extreme cases. Then, after discussing experimental and extreme measures to keep a sore issuing fluid for long periods, Dunglison wrote that he
At the time the English colonists were rebelling and forming the United States, knowledge of how to use the magic moxa stick as a folk remedy spread throughout China. Then, in 1820, near the end of the Qing dynasty, a prestigious and prolific medical writer, Chen Xiuyuan, published a book, Great Ultimate Magic Needle Methods, on techniques developed after 100 years of 5 Minute Pain experimentation and refinement. Are You Itching To Get Rid of Your Shingles? “S h i n g l e s”—not the roofing kind but the body rash kind—is a condition that’s best to avoid by understanding how to prevent it and how to get treated if it does occur. Shingles is caused by a virus that develops into a painful blistering rash on the skin. The rash most often occurs on the side of the torso but can appear anywhere on the body. The viral culprit—more commonly known as chicken pox—is varicella zoster. If you had chicken pox earlier in your life, usually as a child, the virus lays dormant in the nerve tissues of your spine and brain until it can “recur” as shingles. When the virus reactivates, it appears as red, itchy blisters that follow patterns according to the nerve root where the virus “lives” (known as a dermatome). Because the infection spreads among nerve patterns, the rash may appear in
tingling, and increased sensitivity. The blisters may fill with fluid that can break open and scab over. Please note that if you experience a blistering rash on the skin around the eyelids or the nose, please call your medical doctor as this can be a medical emergency.
corresponding stripelike patterns. The rash usually runs its painful course from two to four weeks but in some cases may last for many months. Beside acute pain, other symptoms include burning, numbness,

Can I Get Shingles? Anyone who has had the chicken pox can get shingles, although it is most common for folks after 50. While there are vaccines, some statistics show the original vaccine works only about 50 percent of the time. A “live” vaccine can also be a risky preventive treatment because some people get shingles from the shingles vaccine! If you are immune compromised, the vaccine’s effectiveness may decline even with the recent addition of an

Body & Mind ingredient to boost the immune response found in the latest vaccine, Shingrix. So How Can I Prevent Getting Shingles? If you are opposed to becoming vaccinated because of its risks or opposed to taking medications, we offer alternatives to preventing and treating shingles. Nourishing the body, reducing stress, and enhancing immune function all provide a better foundation for preventing shingles. Prevention is important because there can be very serious consequences if shingles goes untreated. Some complications include increased bacterial infections from unhealed blisters, hearing and vision loss, pneumonia, long-term nerve pain, and PHN (post-herpetic neuralgia), a stinging in the shingles area that can last from months to years. What We Can Do for Shingles If you have had chicken pox, you will always have the potential to get shingles. There is no “permanent” cure; however, we provide several treatments to support the body in healing from the virus and then restoring the body to prevent future outbreaks. Dr. Patrick’s approach to shingles is one of “protect and defend.” The first line of defense is to desensitize the body to the virus so it no longer reacts to increased viral activity using specific meridians. The second defense is to strengthen the immune-system response to fight off
the virus. Some times herbal antiviral supplements are used to deactivate the virus and rebuild the immune system. By using this approach, Dr. Patrick is able to reduce the severity and shorten the time span for the shingles outbreak. Depending upon the severity of the shingles, it may take only two to three visits before the body is back on track to protect and defend itself once again. If you have an active case of shingles, have already had shingles in your adult life, or would simply like to strengthen your immune system to prevent shingles, please give us a call at 530-8998741 for a consultation with Dr. Patrick. Shingles Success Story I first came to Dr. Patrick to have him help me solve my IBS after attending one of his seminars. Then I came back after not being able to solve my shingles problem. I had tried natural essential oils, the drug Valtrex, and the shingles vaccination but they all ended up not working very well because I had recurring shingles for two more years, sometimes as often as every three weeks. I was miserable. I itched a lot of the time and I had a burning sensation that felt like someone was pressing a lit cigar against my skin. The drugs had side effects. I felt drowsy, I couldn’t think clearly, I couldn’t drive, I had to give up my water-walking class and cards with friends, which I hated to do. It was depressing because I couldn’t make any plans since I never knew when the next outbreak would occur. After just one visit with Dr. Patrick my shingles went away! I am so relieved. While Dr. Patrick told me that he couldn’t cure my shingles, he did tell me he could help me manage it. My advice is that if you have had multiple bouts of shingles, there is nothing that mainstream Western medicine can do to help you. It is important to check out Dr. Patrick as an option. He is well worth the cost given the results!” —Judy

preferred blisters. He noted, however, that one of his teachers, Baron Larrey, preferred the gentle method of reddening the skin: “When they use the moxa, they endeavor to restrict its effects to the rubefaction it occasions.” Thomas Jefferson employed Dunglison to found a medical school in Virginia. Dunglison designed the curriculum and wrote some of the course material. Since there was not a complete medical dictionary in English at the time, he wrote the largest English medical dictionary, and the book became a medical best seller for decades. Professor Dunglison taught that compared to other counterirritants, moxibustion was the best at relieving nerve pain and deep-seated pain. In addition, moxibustion could relieve pain when other counterirritants failed. However, he did not think it would catch on with Americans. Today in the United States, Japanese and Korean communities still use the moxa stick for pain relief, but it is not used much by Caucasian acupuncturists. The moxa stick is still a widely used remedy throughout Asia. Originally used by families and friends as a home remedy
for pain, it has often been more popular in Asia than acupuncture alone. A few massage schools that teach Asian massage also teach the moxa stick as a way to naturally relieve pain.
My 49 Years of Moxibustion Practice
The American use of drugs to get quick relief has caused an epidemic of addiction and chronic pain. Moxibustion with a magic needle can relieve deep-seated pain when other methods fail. When the most sensitive patients arrive in my office with horrible pain, I marvel at the simplicity of the idea: Stimulate an acupoint by suspending the glowing-hot tip of a moxa stick above the skin! Especially with nerve pain, the look on the patients’ faces and the relief heard in their voices when their pain melts away gratifies my heart. Though the moxa sticks never press on or pierce the skin, the heat reaches the deep pain like a magic needle. I have treated thousands of patients with moxibustion in my career and can report a significant improvement in pain relief with moxa pressure treatments. If you would like to learn more

Questions
Gayle Kimball has a PhD in Religious Studies, UCSB. Author of Energy Tools book, DVDs, and CDs and a dozen other books. Her recent books are about how global youth are transforming our future. To ask a question for this column, contact EarthHavenChico@hotmail.com.
for
Dr. Gayle Kimball Tune in to KZFR 90.1, where “Ask Dr. Gayle” broadcasts 6-7pm the second Thursday of each month. Q: How can I cope with the terrible current political situation? A: Therapists Carl Jung and Hall and Sidra Stone taught us that what’s repressed and unconscious gets projected outward. This influences whom we fall in love with or attract into our lives until we make the pattern conscious and integrate it into the psyche. The Trump presidency is a painful revelation of the American shadow of prejudice and arrogance that needs to be revealed and healed. The silver lining of this storm cloud is a major uptick in activism and appreciation for the basic principles of U.S. government such as separation of powers and the importance of media and free speech. Trump’s sexism motivates women to take leadership as part of the wave of women leaders, as well as teens such as the leaders of #NeverAgain. The number of voters, including young people, will increase. Remember the old slogans “Be the change you want to see” and “Think globally, act locally.” Join a local progressive group, such as the national chapters of Indivisible, and help principled candidates get elected. Q: Climate change is proceeding faster than scientists predicted but this EPA is rolling back regulations to slow global warming. What can we do about this? A: Cities and states are providing green
leadership. The Sierra Club’s Ready for 100 initiative encourages cities to commit to renewable resources and more than 58 have done so—more than half in the West. The Sierra Club estimated that these cities would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 26 million metric tons by 2030. These vanguard cities build more bike and walking trails, add hundreds of traffic roundabouts that save fuel, use LED street lights and smart traffic lights, update building codes, do flood mitigation, increase green space and renewable energy sources, recycle water, and expand recycling. Check out San Diego’s plan (https://www.sandiego.gov/ sites/default/files/final_july_2016_cap. pdf) and lobby for similar actions where you live. Q: I’m caring for an elderly relative and my own kids. How can I avoid being drained emotionally and physically? A: The sandwich generation is spread thin, especially women, who traditionally assume the administrative and social responsibilities and physical tasks such as housework. A meme for parents to be “good enough” can be applied to all varieties of caregiving. Tell yourself, “I do the best I can” and don’t expect perfection. Ask for help and pay for help if you can. It’s important to recharge your batteries with time for yourself with exercise, a bath, a massage, my Mind Power workshop, and so on. Think of yourself as the harvest that nourishes the village. If it is neglected everyone suffers, so keep your larder filled.

Q: My roommates are messy, but nagging them doesn’t work. What can I do? A: Have a house meeting. List all
the chores involved in running your household and divide them up fairly. List the jobs each of you most dislikes to see if someone else doesn’t mind doing the dishes or whatever you don’t want to do. You may want to rotate them, especially the ones no one wants to do, such as clean the toilet. Include consequences, positive and negative, for doing or skipping chores. You could also set aside time each week to put on fun music and clean house together, and then celebrate with a good meal. Q: I’ve known I was a gay man since I was 14, but I was raised in a religion that believes homosexuality is a major sin. I finally had the courage to come out to my wife and kids. She divorced me so I’m exploring gay dating. I don’t know where to start. A: Get involved in the local LGBT group and also get its recommendation for a counselor who understands what you’re experiencing. Be patient with yourself as you go through a second adolescence in which you re-create your identity. Don’t rush into dating and be safe. Remind yourself that you are much more than your sexual orientation. Q: As the oldest son of a single mom, I was expected to be the substitute father to my siblings. Now I’m the head of my own family, but sometimes I feel overwhelmed and unsupported. A: Think of yourself as a mountain of strength—but resting on a skateboard so you have flexibility. Take time to be by yourself, such as by taking a walk in nature, to renew your energy. Find a friend to take turns unloading your feelings without providing solutions.

Recipes By Dawn DeSoto RD, CDE
I
have been a dietitian and nutritionist for 33 years. I have always loved cooking and trying new recipes. During the past few years the National Institute of Health has been intensely researching the healing properties of phytonutrients and antioxidants in food. I find this fascinating, so now when I look for a recipe I think more and more about these magical properties of food and attempt to include them in my daily meal plan. I love salsas and enjoy traditional tomato-based salsas, but I love the sweetness and beauty of adding pineapple and mango to my salsas. Both pineapple and mango contain many different phytonutrients and antioxidants. They are especially rich in vitamin C, which helps to fight inflammation and disease. Pineapple also contains bromelain, an enzyme complex that can help with digestion and helps to prevent abnormal blood clotting. And mango contains zeaxanthin, a powerful phytonutrient that protects the eyes against disease, and carotenes that protect the skin against cellular damage. So, while we enjoy the delicious sweet, succulent taste of pineapple and mango our bodies are being healed and nurtured as well. Magic!
Mango Salsa 1 mango, peeled, seeded, and chopped 1/4 cup finely chopped red pepper 1 green onion, chopped 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro 1 fresh jalapeno chili pepper, finely chopped 2 tablespoons lime juice 1 tablespoon lemon juice Mix together. Enjoy!
Pineapple Salsa 2 cups diced fresh pineapple 2 medium tomatoes, seeded and chopped 3/4 cup red onion 1/4 cup minced fresh cilantro 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped 1 tablespoon olive oil 3/4 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic Mix together.

How to Make a Living
at Your Higher Calling in One Year So, as we awaken spiritually, we find our higher calling is a surrendering of what we thought we had to do to simply allow our natural joy to be expressed. By Joa Janakoayas
W
hat Is One’s Higher Calling? Your higher calling is a more direct expression of your authentic joy. We are all evolving in consciousness throughout our lives, and what we do reflects this. Early in my life I was a gardener. Then I got tired of pulling weeds, and I became a creative landscaper. Then I had a spiritual awakening, and I became a Tarot card reader and energy healer. Notice that the more conscious we become the less we seem to do and the greater impact we make. When I was pulling weeds I was working the hardest but making far less impact than I do today as an educator of spiritual psychology. My work does not feel like work. It is more of an expression of my joyful being. It is a spiritual truth: Our being makes a far greater difference than our doing. For example, a spiritual master appears to do nothing but smile, meditate, and speak if we are lucky, and yet thousands of people are affected.
Why Aren’t More People Doing Their Higher Calling? Most people are just surviving. They are simply doing what they have been told to do. We were taught that “success is the key to happiness.” This belief that “I’ll be happy when ...” keeps us on an exhausting treadmill, perpetually hoping that someday we will get there. The final goal is being wealthy enough to retire. Look at that word retire—to become “tired again.” And this is what happens to people who lack awareness of their spiritual purpose; they work too hard and eventually become sick, and tired. Upon spiritual awakening, we realize happiness isn’t a pursuit. The Buddha said: “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” I believe our simple purpose of life is to find our happiness and share it. Spiritual awakening is the discovery of your natural inner joy here and now. We realize the deeper self, or soul, is authentic happiness.

ADD / ADHD Depression
Food Cravings Insomnia
We believe anyone can be happy, joyous, and free now ... by being connected with his or her authentic self, or soul. Back to answering your question ... actually today more and more people are discovering their inner happiness and higher calling. A 2017 Pew research survey says that more than 27 percent of Americans declare themselves as spiritual but not religious, and another 59 percent declare themselves religious and spiritual. So spiritual awakening is on the rise big-time.
How Can One Know if One Is Having a Spiritual Awakening?
There are many signs and symptoms. One hallmark sign is the feeling that you do not fit into our dysfunctional society. This leads one to want to break out of conformity and find his or her own path, which can be frightening. To become true to yourself is a birthing process that can be both painful and a celebration.

Everyone does it in his or her own unique way, and this is how our world is getting changed. So How Is It Possible a Person Can Do His Higher Calling in One Year? For the spiritually unawakened it is not possible. The current education system is designed for the spiritually unawakened. There is very little emphasis on learning from one’s own intuition, and so becoming educated is a long, arduous, and expensive process. At the University of Mount Shasta, we discovered that people who have had a spiritual awakening learn differently. They are getting in touch with their own inner knowing, wisdom, and power to heal and resolve virtually any kind of issue, and our holistic technologies accelerate this process. We designed our education around each student’s healing and spiritual awakening process, and we were fortunate to discover tools that clear away the human dross very fast. They go
through an accelerated integration that frees them of their past pain memories, decodes their unique mission, and unlocks their courage to launch their holistic practice in 11 months, before they graduate! I have been through a lot of education, including two master’s degrees, and none of it helped me find work afterward. So it has been my mission to change that. I believe that the responsibility of education is to get people working and prospering at what they love doing the most—immediately. What Gives Your Students the Credibility to Attract Clients? Traditionally, credibility comes from what corporate establishments dictate. If you pass the medical exams, you become a doctor and you can have a practice. People can trust you. But today, things have changed. Malpractice suits are at an all-time high. People of consciousness have lost trust in the corporate world. Nowadays, for every challenge in life, we have alternative choices. For example, if you had cancer, to whom would you give greater credibility? An oncologist who tells you that you have a 50 percent chance of survival after surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy ...
or people on YouTube who have already healed themselves of the same kind of cancer via natural self-healing methods? Coaching has exploded to the number two industry in the world behind information technology because people are giving more credibility to their honest experiences than to what they are being told by corporate “experts.” Everyone’s greatest desire in life (whether conscious of this or not) is to be happier. Generally speaking, spiritually awakened people are happier. Thus, people are naturally drawn to what spiritually awakened people have to offer because it is less about credentials and more about the vibration. For example, most people aren’t aware of Eckhart Tolle’s credentials except that he spent years on London park benches. It is his spiritually awakened presence that draws seekers to him. For every spiritually awakened person there are millions of people who would benefit from his or her vibration. To make a long story short, what gives our graduates credibility is their high vibration earned from getting free of their human issues, the sharing of their own “hero’s journey,” the wisdom of how they overcame their own personal challenges, their belief in their authentic selves, and their natural joy. Spiritual Healing: A Brief Explanation
By Annie Fuller
E
verything is energy, from the magnificent to the mundane. Mountains. Stars. Anger. Love. Metal. Air. All beings. Even plastic. Our spirit/consciousness designs contracts, karma, and agreements before incarnating. Our individuated human souls store energies that do not belong to us. Spiritual healing involves spirit and soul in all their wisdom and brilliance. It unifies the path of spirit with the path of human and accelerates our healing and awakening.
Do you have trouble with boundaries? Do you sense that a deceased loved one hasn’t gone to the light? Has someone decided you are mentally ill? Are there patterns you can’t seem to break? Do you feel yourself? Have you been unable to disconnect from an unhealthy relationship? Are you struggling with a medically undiagnosable illness? Varieties of heavy energy can become trapped within the landscape of the soul. Trauma creates soul loss and leaves pockets of density, as does taking on another’s suffering. Earthbound and other types of entities cause mental and physical ailments. The list goes on and on. These energies radiate through the layers and manifest as disease and illness. Unhappiness, disconnection, and poor health are rampant because most people’s
souls are burdened with concentrated heavy energy. Wholeness and vitality can be restored without medical methods. Spiritual healing occurs throughout the world, and in some cultures it’s the norm. Healers have their own paths, experiences, and interconnections with emissaries of the divine, and each works in unique and personal ways. I’ve been involved with spiritual healing for more than 34 years. Some of my ways include ceremony, deep alliance with my teachers and helpers, hands-on healing, shamanism, and kinship with Pachamama. Through my life and work experiences I’ve developed trusting relationships with master healers of the light that move through me for the benefit of others.

to tell someone something will change within a specific period. Because I implicitly trust my teachers and guides and could never accomplish my work without them, I share everything and relay all messages. Personal responsibility on the part of the client also plays a part. A healing ceremony is a brief moment in life. How does one take the opportunity of the changes that occurred? Posthealing suggestions are an integral part of spiritual healing. Humbled, Franklyn called on the third day to say his nerve pain was gone.
Franklyn was 35 and had a loving wife, young daughter, and many friends. Handsome, impulsive, and charismatic, he was the life of every party. While riding his motorcycle one day, Franklyn collided with a truck. Both knees and the bones above his knees broke, as did his wrists and upper right arm. When I met Franklyn the nerve pain in his right knee, which three surgeries had failed to relieve, was unbearable. His best friend suggested I might be able to help; Franklyn was highly skeptical. Franklyn lay upon the healing table. I touched his feet and breathed to my center. The Light of Love moved down my arms, out my hands, and into his body and soul. Teacher: “His mind must see himself as he was before. Active. Moving. His body free. Tell him not to view himself as he is, but as he was and wants to be. His mind must cooperate with the future shape of his form. This is his task.” I saw Franklyn’s surgeries and noticed a nerve had been stripped and left bare. It was the source of his pain. Pleadean surgeons numbed the nerve, realigned it, and applied healing salve. I was told Franklyn’s pain would be gone within three days. At the scene of the accident, I recovered part of his soul, brought it for healing, and blew it back into him. Teacher: “It’s time for him to focus. He must allow his inner strength to override his unhealthy perspectives and use his influence in more helpful ways.” Magic can be palpable during spiritual healing, yet it’s difficult for me
Spiritual healing belongs to the mystical, energetic realms and assists us here, in the physical. It occurs outside time and space and addresses all human experiences. After a healing, most people feel themselves, sometimes for the first time in their entire lives. Can spiritual healing cure everything? No. But it can get to the root cause of most disturbances and either relieve them or at least offer us the awareness of why its occurrence is important. Illness is a teacher of awakening and heart expansion. The opportunities that one’s spirit chooses for these tasks do not necessarily fit with our human lives and expectations. Spiritual healers know that everything, including ourselves, is living energy. Our work focuses within the landscapes of the spirit and soul. We know we are never alone and allow evolved beings to work with and through us. Trusting our distinctive ways of
perception and experience, we share our wisdom with all who request it. Spiritual healing is the oldest form of healing that exists. As Within, SoWithout
The Power
By Jim Redtail Collins, PhD
“If enough of us do the inner work, we will make it.”—Carl Jung
W
hen Jung wrote this, he was referring to what he called the shadow—those aspects of consciousness and behaviors that we do not or will not recognize in ourselves. Instead we project them outward so that we can recognize them, but we seldom do. This is the gateway to awakening, for we must recognize, heal, and integrate the shadow parts of ourselves to emerge from the cocoon of illusion. No one can force this change upon you. You must actively seek it yourself. This is a conundrum for “activists,” and our blind spots are often our undoing. It is easy to become selfrighteous, desperate to convince others of what we think they need to know and do. It is difficult to examine ourselves, much less understand how the universe
of
Self-Transformation
actually works—the role our perceptions play in creating our reality. The truth is that we are impotent to influence change until we embody that change. Gandhi said something about this, about becoming the change we want to see. As an “activist of consciousness,” I am guided by the belief that the need is dire for those who are already partially conscious to become more conscious. It is far more achievable in any case than trying to awaken those who are asleep in their illusions ... which is quite difficult. This means doing the “inner work” Jung was talking about. We are un-conscious to the extent that we refuse to own what we project. It is easier to try to change others, but mostly futile. If you try to help a bird hatch by cracking its egg before it is ready to emerge, you are not being helpful. The Power of Self-Transformation I know a good many activists who talk about “saving the world.” I have even heard some brag about how many times they have been arrested, as though that demonstrates the effectiveness of their activism. Too many of them preach to other people about

what they need to do when their own lives are a mess. How can you save the world if you can’t save yourself? The most powerful and enduring activism is healing your past and expanding your awareness, for when you do so, the world around you also transforms ... dramatically. Doing so not only uplifts you but everyone around you as well. To the extent that your personal story is written from the wounds you carry—which often involves a lack of self-love—your capacity to serve others and give love is likewise impaired because your perception is clouded by the illusions created by your own issues.

Special Interest Too many of us are focused on trying to get other people to change ... and as a result we ignore what we need to change. If you want to heal the world, you must first heal what needs healing in yourself. You cannot fill anyone’s cup from an empty pitcher. We often fail to realize that our greatest power lies in changing ourselves. In truth, it is the only power we have. Over and over, with my clients and students, I have seen what happens when they come to realize that they can stop trying to change others and focus on uplifting themselves. When they do, things change around them as well. They are often amazed by how much their family members change when they give up trying to change them and work on themselves. That’s where the magic is. This is also true for our effect on the wider world. That does not mean that we don’t need to take action ... we absolutely do! But the first thing we have to do is change ourselves, our perceptions, our attitudes, our limited beliefs, the stories we tell ourselves, the judgments we project. As Jung insisted, the most important work we each have to do is to integrate our own shadow. If we do not, we can only project our shadow on others. On a collective level, this is one of the big issues facing our nation. We have difficulty facing our shadow, and it is quite imposing.
If you deny your shadow, you will be largely impotent to change anything, no matter how much you crusade or how many times you get arrested. If we do not engage in the “inner work” of personal uplift, we cannot really help anyone else. We cannot change the fabric of our reality
• Learn to manage your emotions. Emotion is the rocket fuel for your thoughts. • As much as possible, focus your attention on higher emotional frequencies: gratitude, kindness, appreciation, compassion, joy, forgiveness. • Own your projections. When you find yourself judging others, take a really good look in the mirror. The gift of a greater awareness of the true nature of “reality” awaits you in your own reflection. • Focus on your heart and repeat this mantra: I am love. Love is all that I am. Do it often. If you do nothing else, these practices will lead you step-by-step to becoming more conscious!
until we change our perception. If you want to save the world, you must begin with yourself! To bring more light to the darkness, we must first bring light to the darkness within. No amount of crusading will substitute for the work you must do on yourself. It is your daily practices that will transform you ... and the world. Here are some suggestions: • Die to the past. Release it. Get over it. Forgive. This is the hardest part. • Learn to focus your attention. It is one of the keys to personal power. • Cultivate flexibility of perception. Things are seldom exactly as they appear.

THE TWO BIGGEST TABOOS
Things that People Don’t Want to Hear That Hold the Key to Understanding Our World By Jack Allis
I
n my books and DVDs, I attempt to tell the total truth about our world, including the dark and sinister aspects that quickly emerge. If we are going to change our crazy world, we must first understand it. Invariably, these are things most people don’t want to hear. This is called a taboo. A taboo is something you are forbidden to talk or even think about because it would threaten the entire fabric of the status quo. My work revolves around three basic themes. Two of the themes are taboos and the other was taboo until about 50 years ago. The first and most important theme is the power of our indigenous spirituality to change ourselves and our world. This is no longer a taboo. Back in the 19th century, when the Native Americans were conquered, it was. The Native Americans were forbidden to practice their native spirituality because the white man understood the danger it posed. The second theme is the conspiracy to trick humanity into becoming slaves. And the third is the role that extraterrestrials play in our world both past and present. These are the two biggest taboos. The theme of our indigenous spirituality is the only one of the three that provides a solution. Indigenous spirituality is defined as the spirituality
that is practiced by the indigenous people of Planet Earth from traditions spanning the globe. They all carry the same message. It is a message that is derived from the same source, which is the relationship they have with nature and with Mother Earth. This too is where we find the one solution to the problems in the world. The solution consists of returning to a way of life that is sustainable and in harmony with nature and the laws of nature. The other two themes, the conspiracy and ETs, are taboos, though the numbers of people who are opening their minds to them is growing spectacularly. This is particularly true for ETs, as variations of this story are beginning to show up even in the mainstream media and conferences on this topic are overflowing. Let’s start at the beginning with the ETs. Aside from the escalating numbers of people who have had sightings or encounters, the true history of Planet Earth makes no sense without including the role played by extraterrestrials. A multitude of structures, shrines, and artifacts span the globe, for which there is no other possible explanation. Ancient civilizations existed on Earth that were not of human origin. And virtually every ancient religious
text, all of which are very cryptic, including the Bible, the Vedas, Greek mythology, and the Mayan Popol Vuh, depict celestial events, beings who come from the sky and a vast array of gods and goddesses who overlook the affairs of humanity. I believe the theory of Zecharia Sitchin tells the story well. He was the translator of the inscriptions on the ancient tablets that were discovered in Sumer, which was a part of ancient Babylon. The tablets dated back 6,000 years, and they told a story that completely overturned the commonly accepted view of the world. Subsequently, of course, this became a taboo and Sitchin a madman. The tablets told of a race of beings who came to Earth from another world about 200,000 years ago for the purpose of colonization and to mine gold. These beings also claim to have created a slave race by combining their DNA with that of the native humans, either by inbreeding or in the laboratory, creating a race of genetic hybrids, part ET, part human.

Rahasya Uncensored As far as the conspiracy, let’s define this. A conspiracy is a secret agenda to deceive and manipulate others. This is precisely what we have in our world today, the purpose of which is control and exploitation. This is orchestrated in a way that is very complex and mysterious and summing it up in a few words is a challenge but let’s give it a shot. When we follow the trail of the money, we learn that the world is owned and controlled by a small group of elite people, or beings, who operate entirely behind the scenes. As we get close to the top of the pyramid of power, we find the international banking families, such as the Rothschilds, who create the money that enslaves us, and the Rockefellers and the oil monopoly that enslaves us, and the royal families around the world, whose international financial holdings are astounding, and a few others like this. Beyond that, it gets fuzzy. We know that all the important decisions in the world are made at the meetings
of secret societies, such as the Council on Foreign Relations and the Bilderberg Group, which are attended by the world’s wealthiest people. These meetings are by invitation only and they are secret. It is a
mystery who does the inviting. And there are probably other meetings that are even more secret than this. The agenda is the same as it’s been for 6,000 years, farther back if you follow the thread. Like the monarchs earlier in our history, the beings at the top of the pyramid see themselves as Creating the New World divinely ordained to rule the people According to the Ancient Wisdom of Planet Earth. The seeing eye How Do We Make This Happen? on the U.S. Letting Go of the Old-Paradigm Matrix dollar depicts What Forces Must Come into Play? this. and being taken care of cradle to grave by their masters. And yes, the question begs to be asked whether the ETs or the hybrids from 200,000 years ago are the same as the shadowy figures at the top of the pyramid of power today. I believe that the possibility needs to be seriously considered. Either way, the agenda is the same. And all of this begins to provide answers to the most perplexing question of all. Why is humanity botching it so badly on Planet Earth? The answer: We’re not. Humanity and Planet Earth are a mess because they have been tampered with by outside forces. The natural development of the Earth and her people has been interfered with by beings who have no interest in sustainability or living in harmony with nature, but whose sole objective is exploitation and control. All of which brings us back to the central point, which is the primary source of our power to do something about this—our higher consciousness and our spirituality. It is essential at this time that we, the human race, wake up to how we are pawns in this insidious game. Once we are awake, we must stop playing the game. We must reclaim our place as free children of the universe and reassume complete responsibility for our lives, which means remembering how to live sustainably and in harmony with nature. When enough of us detach, the old paradigm system will not be able to hold up, and we will be free to reassume control of ourselves and Mother Earth. Jack Allis is an author and spiritual teacher. His latest novel, Blue Sun, Red Sun, is a metaphysical thriller, based on a story from Hopi prophecy, about a small sustainable community that survives colossal challenges to see the dawning of the new world. Jack also practices what he preaches, living a life that mirrors his books. In December 2012 he moved to the mountains north of Mount Shasta, where he lives off the grid, in harmony with nature. In his previous books and DVDs, Jack dealt with how to take spiritual action in these transformative times. To learn more, go to www.JackAllis.com. www.lotusguide.com

The Danger of Dopamine Feedback-Loops
O
Are We Being Programmed?
K, here I go once again, writing about something that makes so many of us uncomfortable, which is our social media experience. To some extent this involves Twitter, Instagram, and a variety of other platforms set up to draw us in, but I’m going to focus on Facebook to some extent since, according to its (Facebook) statistics, more than 1 billion people now spend an average of 50 minutes a day on Facebook. I admit that I have not one, but two, Facebook accounts but I’ve recently recognized an old shadow of my personality that involves addiction. But how could this be? Being on Facebook is not the same as a gambling habit, a drug or alcohol addiction, or an addiction to pornography … or is it? A
former Facebook executive, Chamath Palihapitiya, said, “I think we have created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works. The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops we’ve created are destroying how society works. No civil discourse, no
cooperation; misinformation, mistruth. You are being programmed.” He was the former vice president in charge of “user growth.” He told the audience at Stanford Graduate School of Business that he felt tremendous guilt for helping to create such a system and told the members of the audience that they should take a serious look and break away from social media. At this point I could start talking about all the research around this worldwide addiction to social media and the results are conclusive, which are that it’s changing the way our society relates, and there are neurological and biological conditions to be aware of. Anyone who follows my articles or listens to my radio show knows that I don’t hold extreme points of view because the truth is usually

Rahasya Uncensored found somewhere in the middle. That being said, social media can be an “OK” thing, not great and not horrendous, just OK, and that is determined by knowing the game that’s been put upon us. Let’s be honest: The people behind the government, advertising agencies, and corporations are much more intelligent and driven than we are. But all of this information is readily available and I will put up a webpage as a starting point for anyone brave enough to look at this. So … are you ready to fall down the rabbit hole with me on this subject and think about it on a deeper level? When we ask ourselves “What is reality?” the answer has always depended on our perception of the world around us and how we process and think about the data that are fed into our brains. This is why we can watch a love story and actually feel the emotions involved, or a horror movie and feel scared; our minds do not know the difference. This is also why Internet pornography is a $100 billion business … in our minds, it can become very real right on down to a dopamine release, which is where addiction processes kick in. If you are part of the older generation as I am, it may be difficult to realize the world today’s kids are being born into. It would be much like asking a fish what it feels like to be wet … it would have no idea, so it’s actually up to the older generation to keep an eye on this and many other

subjects in our world and point them out. I was going to write an article called “The Day the Music Died” because I’ve noticed something about the majority of music these past few years, which is that it all sounds the same. There’s a reason for this. When I used to go out and buy an album (my first album was The Doors), I would take it home and play it over and over again and in time I would like the songs more and more. … Why? Because familiarity is what gives us that dopamine release. This is why older songs, such as “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin, worked; we would sit there and listen to the whole seven minutes to get to what’s called the “bridge” toward

the end and get goose bumps every time … that’s one of the side effects of dopamine. But here we are today, with shortened attention spans and downloading hundreds, if not thousands, of songs onto our iPods; I have an iPod that holds well over 3,000 songs. What the music industry has figured out is that kids today don’t take the time to get to the bridge in a traditionally written song; they listen for around one minute and if it doesn’t grab them they are off to the next song. So to grab them, most of the songs are now written with the bridge toward the beginning, and since there are so many songs and familiarity is what releases the dopamine, the songs are starting to sound the same because they are. Pop songs are written primarily by a very few people with software designed to make them sound the same; that’s how the music industry has handled the attention-span problem—the songs sound alike from the beginning and are less dependent on the bridge. This makes it very difficult for a band or person who is actually creating a new sound to be heard … it’s simply too noisy out there. This is just one more among the many examples of what the information age has given us in the way of noise and visual pollution. I was talking with a contact at the Inner Traditions

I have well over 2,000 books here at my home that publishers have sent me to review and when I read them I can almost predict what the authors have just read because their books are the synthesis of the last 10 books they just read … nothing new. One of the things that’s driving the disintegration of our Western world is the “mindless” adaption to technology, which is driving us full force into a world that will be dominated by artificial intelligence (AI). The Ray Kurzweils of this world will have you believe that it will make us “superhuman” to integrate with AI but instead it will make us “subhuman.” I met a young person a

He “wouldn’t” do it, saying, “Why should I go to the trouble, when I can just go and Google it?” There is a particular neural network that our brains set up to “think out and logically deduce” problems, especially problems that require a new level of understanding to arrive at new ideas or solutions. Hey, What’s Your Sign? Signature The Hidden Wisdom in the Horoscope
By Glenn Kaufmann
W
e’ve all said it at one time or another or have heard it said: “What’s your astrological sign?” And who doesn’t know the answer to that or hasn’t peeked at a horoscope column or two? Everyone alive today who can read a newspaper or access the Internet has probably read his or her sun sign forecast. His or her “horoscope.” Those ubiquitous columns of timely advice sandwiched between “Dear Abby” and “Dagwood.” Billions of people around the planet peek at these forecasts every day in every conceivable language. Millions have learned the attributes and attitudes associated with their sun signs. Millions more think they have. Face it. Humanity is “hooked on horoscopes.” The dirty little secret among professional astrologers is that we all cringe a bit when we hear someone begin to reference his or her horoscope, because we know that sun sign–only horoscopes perpetually project an extremely simplistic stereotype of astrology to the world. There is the bundling of all people into just a few “categories,” the “Twitter”size word bites that act as forecasts, and the underlying implication of the loss or lessening of a person’s individuality. Did you know that you also have an astrological signature? And that an
astrological signature can be 144 times more accurate than just your sun sign alone? Yep. Whereas there are only 12 different possible signs that you can be born under, there are more than 1,700 different and distinct astrological signatures—1,728 to be exact. And each signature has its own quirks and qualities. Its own characteristics and traits. Its own lessons and experiences. Since there are only 12 signs in any one year, those born in any one zodiacal sign share the same characteristics as those born in the same 30-day period of the year. With astrological signatures you narrow this window of shared characteristics down to under five hours in any one year. How do you find out your own astrological birth signature? Ask any astrologer. He or she will be glad to tell you. Or punch your birth data into one of the many free astrology chart calculations services on the web. Find out what sign your moon is in and what sign your rising sign is in, also called the ascendant. These, combined with your sun sign, make up your personal astrological signature and are considered the three most important aspects of your astrology chart. Sun sign. Moon sign. And rising sign. Once you know these three
things, look at your favorite horoscope column. Read your sun sign forecast as you normally would. And in so doing, I want you to think of this forecast as the general characteristics for the day in question. Next, read the forecast for the sign your moon is in. This reveals how you will feel on the day in question and what emotional issues may surface. Last, read the forecast for your rising sign to give you some insights into how you will present yourself to others and how they will likely perceive you. And you can do this with any horoscope column, anywhere, anytime. All you need is your sun, moon, and rising signs. In this way, you too can find what I like to call the hidden wisdom in the horoscope. It is time to transform the simple sun sign forecast into something more. Something that educates more and perpetuates less. Something that opens more doors and more windows to the self and closes more stereotypes. Step up to a new level of astrological awareness and step up into the Aquarian Age. Turn your birth sign into your signature and see what you have written in the stars. MountShastaAstrologer.com
