Human Trafficking experts often talk about push and pull forces: conditions that propel or lure vulnerable people into situations of prostitution or forced labor. Domestic violence often serves as a push or pull force. People at risk, usually women and girls, often fall under the control of traffickers while attempting to escape intimate-partner abuse. My name is Kristiana Stefanic. I am the Founder and CEO of Orion Healing Center and the StarLight Church. I spent the last three years developing and leading these nonprofit agencies to support the healing of trafficked individuals. I am dedicated to bringing awareness to communities on an international level that Human and Sex Trafficking are complex issues that include domestic violence, prostitution, stalking and other victimizations aka poly victimization. They become inadvertently ensnared in abusive intimate-partner relationships trying to escape sex or labor trafficking. This is usually fueled by a lack of economic resources and family support, making the victims easy marks for intimate-partner predators. Desperate to leave intolerable conditions, they fail to see that the person offering refuge and protection is an abuser themself.
I recognize that these kinds of victimization, violence, and abuse have an impact on individuals, family, and community. Through my work with the California Department of Corrections, completing my degree in Criminology, and being a Spiritual Counselor and Yoga Teacher I have learned to read the signs and languages of a human body that has been abused and heavily traumatized. I have unique abilities that break down barriers within our criminal justice system and help professionals better understand individuals who have experienced trauma. I incorporate the science and study of victimology; the cause of victimization, its consequences, how the criminal justice system accommodates and assists victims, and how other elements of society, such as the media, deal with crime victims. In 2010, I opened the Awakened Yoga Studio and trademarked my own yoga teaching program, the Awakened University and Transitive Yoga™. During this time I donated my services for individuals at Catalyst Domestic Violence Center and Rape Crisis in Chico, California. I volunteered my time doing trauma-informed and recovery yoga to victims and their children who were living in the safe houses while they regained their independence and ability to rejoin their community. to teen victims looking for assistance in addressing PTSD, anxiety, depression and other mental health symptoms. Donating thousands of hours of community service over the past 25 years to sexual assault survivors, veterans of war, domestic violence victims, and children with autism, has prepared me for this current journey that I am now on. To further share my gifts and passion for mental, physical and spiritual health I founded two nonprofit organizations. The first is the Orion Healing Center whose mission is to pioneer expanded options for healing and health care by focusing on research and funding opportunities to provide services for whole person care. All healing modalities address physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs to allow self-healing from any traumatic life experience. I believe that everyone has the right to have the opportunity to grow and heal. My focus is specifically on helping children and young adults who are victims of violence and sexual abuse and this is the foundation Orion Healing Center was built upon. The second is The StarLight Church. Its purpose is to provide comprehensive integrated health services through Indigenous Healing Practices for victims of violent crimes, specifically human trafficking. I am one of the nine original initiated Shamballa Masters in the United States and I provide Shamballa classes, healings and codes to individuals I am working with. As an experienced and educated shamanic teacher and counselor, my service through the StarLight Church offers ceremonies and retreats (quests) to enable multi-dimensional healing for mind, body and spirit and to guide profound transformations for individuals and entire communities. Releasing deep traumas enables processing, extensive selfhealing and integration into a resilient life. Both I and my team are trained in all areas of Human and Sex Trafficking, Victimization and Victimology, NonViolent Communication, and MultiDimensional private LCSW therapeutic sessions. All employees are trained on a spiritual, energetic, physical, and emotional level through an extensive training program developed by me. I have a Victim Services Certification through Fresno State and I am Nationally Accredited through National Advocate Credentialing Program (NACP). My team is also certified through National Organization of Victim Assistance (NOVA) in best practice in advocacy for victims of crime. I believe that advocates and service providers do their best work when they are trained through a holistic integrated understanding of trauma, including understanding their own trauma to avoid trauma bonding and secondary trauma. Integrating my knowledge of the human body, shamanic healings, spiritual counseling and education in victimology, I am prepared to live my passion in supporting the healing of human sex trafficking victims. You can help build a supportive and sustainable community which provides spiritual and energetic tools and resources necessary for healing of trauma and long-term change. The Orion Healing Center is in need of physical place in the Chico area where victims and survivors of Human and Sex Trafficking and Family and Intimate Partnership Violence can receive services in a safe space to heal and shift their life in a new direction.
