BALANCING PRIVACY AND EXPOSURE IN AN URBAN ARTIST COLONY. The site cast concrete building, like a daylight factory, has a robust industrial character. Panels of stainless steel mesh veil the north and south faces of the atrium, providing artists with privacy, while allowing views into the public realm. The Allen St. facade, the more open residential facade, is defined by an exposed site case concrete wrapper and recessed glazing.

THIS INSTALLATION SPANNED 30 FT ACROSS OUR STUDIO, STANDING 11 FT HIGH. The raw studio space became the formwork for casting each beam. A custom wood member was cast within the beam in order to act as a joint, smoothly connecting each beam during installation. A highly refined aggregate mixture reduced weight per beam by 35%.
