Glendale Road Realignment Completed Local

Happenings and News…

The realignment of Glendale Road has been completed. The road was closed in mid-June between Rt. 219 and Zeddock Miller Rd, and opened again in early Fall 2023. The purpose of the realignment was to provide better line of site for homes and future businesses in that section of Glendale. The large parcel on the corner of Glendale and Rt. 219, sold by Railey Realty, will be a site for a brand new DG Fresh and 2-3 other businesses yet to be announced. This is the second time Glendale has been realigned.

Your 1st Choice in Real Estate Pilot Dredging Project Starting in ArrowHead Cove

The first dredging project at Deep Creek Lake will begin in October 2023 and is predicted to be completed by mid-winter. This $2.2M pilot project was funded by the State of Maryland and will remove approximately 15,000 cubic yards of sediment from Arrowhead Cove. It’s estimated that this will add 1-4 ft of depth to the cove, allowing for better access year-round, even when water levels are lowered towards the end of the season. In addition to sediment removal, installation of rock clusters and submerged aquatic vegetation will reduce the potential for invasive species and provide

increased habitat on the lakebed. Of the 10 identified sediment-impaired coves at Deep Creek, Arrowhead Cove was chosen to be used for the pilot project due to its large amount of public boaters and engineering logistics. Increased sediment in these coves is mostly caused from stream inputs that are increased with high rain and snow melt and shoreline erosion. As Deep Creek Lake approaches its 100 year anniversary, this dredging project will provide a great insight into how effective dredging can be for the health of the lake and the environment. This project will also provide a better

Nick Fratz-Orr Named Garrett County REALTOR of the Year Railey Realty is excited to announce that Nick Fratz-Orr was recently voted the 2023 REALTOR of the Year by the Garrett County Board of Realtors Board of Directors. This accomplishment is earned by GCBR members who have spent their time and resources working for and with the local board, Maryland Realtors, and other organizations. Nick has served as President of GCBR, Past-President, and served on several

committees including Affordable Housing, Membership, Networking, Government Affairs, and Marketing. Nick was the youngest President ever elected for Garrett County Board of REALTORS. He also served on committees for Maryland Realtors, including President’s Council and MR Board of Directors. Coined the ‘world’s fastest REALTOR’ from his pro-motocross career, Nick has wasted no time establishing himself

insight into the logistics of dredging the larger coves. The project is being completed by local business Byco Enterprises. Coffer dams will be placed at the beginning of the cove to block water, and then equipment will be used on the lakebed to begin removing sediment. The project is expected to be complete by February 2024. The other sedimentimpaired coves identified in the 2017 survey are Chadderton School Cove, Deep Creek Cove, Green Glade Cove, Harvey’s Cove, Hazelhurst Cove, Pawn Run Cove, Penn Cove, Poland Run Cove, and Turkey Neck Cove.

within the real estate community in Garrett County. While the REALTOR of the Year award is not based on sales records, Nick has been a top-earning agent in the county for the past several years, and earned several awards within Railey Realty. As a second generation REALTOR at Deep Creek, he’s grown up around the business and had a great mentor in his father to learn from.

The Deep Creek Lake Resort Report Railey Realty Hosts GaCo Telethon - Funds Raised Surpass $30,000

Railey Realty was happy to host the GaCo team for their day-long telethon over Labor Day Weekend. The Garrett Coalition, or GaCo for short, is a local organization that provides instruction for elementary school aged children, hosts a nationally competitive robotics team, and donates and supports more than 30 other local organizations. The main focus of GaCo is to get Garrett County students STEM ready, which covers Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The robotics team, #1629, is made up of highschool students who build a robot and compete in nation-wide competitions. The team has routinely won national accolades, including

the national championship title last year. In an effort to raise money for this group, Railey Realty was happy to offer our office to serve as homebase for a brand-new fundraiser for GaCo - a 16 hour, 29 minute live telethon. The event was livestreamed on YouTube and featured ‘hall of fame’ mentors, students, and community members who joined both in-person and via zoom on the live stream. Guests from Railey Realty included Rich Orr, Jon Bell, Bill Weissgerber, and Elizabeth Ware. Railey Realty was happy to be the first donation, joining in on the #1629 theme, donating $1,629. The goal for the telethon

was $16,290 - and GaCo not only raised that, but surpassed that goal throughout the day. The day ended just above $18,000, with a private donor pledging an additional $16,290, making the total amount raised upwards of $35,000. In addition to the robotics team that travels across the country to compete, GaCo regularly attends local elementary schools to teach STEM to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The projects for each class feature a principle of STEM that’s made easy and fun to understand. The hope is that an early introduction to STEM will result in a life-long passion and interest in these fields.
