ABOUT THE CONFERENCE “The RIA Annual conference this November is a great opportunity for the rail industry and supply chain to come together and discuss the challenges and opportunities for the future. And it’s a platform to discuss how we can build back better together.”

Date and time

Thursday 4 and 5 Friday November 2021

Venue

London Hilton Bankside Hotel Bear Lane London SE1 0UG

Description

RIA's Award-winning Annual Conference is a much-regarded highlight of the UK rail calendar and 2021 will be no exception.

Sameena Ali-Khan

Journalist and TV Presenter

Andrew Haines,

Chief Executive, Network Rail

We are bringing back the in-person conference in order to give RIA members the possibility of meeting face-to-face with clients, industry leaders, influencers, international guests and policy makers. We will also allow people to connect remotely, through a livestream capability we are putting in place, for delegates to access the content via Microsoft Teams. This year’s Conference focuses on the theme of “Build back better. Build back greener. Build back rail”. Over the space of two days, the programme will combine keynote speeches, panel discussions, interview sessions and unique networking opportunities, giving delegates the chance to connect with key industry leaders.

After studying Physiology and Chemistry, Sameena was drawn to journalism. After working on radio in Manchester she first appeared on air on BBC Radio Lancashire. She remained with the BBC, going back to Manchester and GMR before stints on the BBC Asian Network, BBC West Midlands and BBC London, as well as Radio 5Live. On TV (aside from a debut appearance made whilst living in Nigeria on the country’s equivalent of Blue Peter) Sameena presented and reported for Northwest Today, Inside Out, and Midlands Today before moving to ITV. With a presenting style combining bright and approachable with authoritative, Sameena is the only presenter to have won the RTS Best On Screen Personality two years running.

Our host

Sameena Ali-Khan anchors national bulletins for ITV at weekends, and throughout the week on Central Tonight in the Midlands, covering a wide range of stories across daily news and documentaries.

The Railway Industry Supplier Excellence (RISE) Awards celebrate the excellence and achievements of RIA’s supply chain members in a range of categories. 2021 continued to be a very different year to what any of us could have envisaged, following the Coronavirus outbreak, but the rail supply sector has risen to the challenge, working hard to keep our rail network running during an incredibly difficult period as well as building the world-class railway of tomorrow. We should celebrate their fantastic achievements to support the UK, and the RISE Awards this year will do just that. The RISE Awards 2021 will form an exciting part of the RIA Annual Conference. The winners will be announced during the networking dinner on Thursday 4 November.

RISE Award Categories for 2021

• SME Growth in Rail Award • Safety & Wellbeing Award • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Award • Environment & Sustainability Award • Collaboration Award • Unlocking Innovation Award • Future Leader Award

4-5 November

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT Comedy Show Ian Moore With a contempt for most forms of physical exertion, Ian’s laid-back delivery is both natural and endearing. His style has made a mark on the live circuit, particularly at London's famous Comedy Store, and touring with the likes of Lee Evans and Jack Dee. Ian's take on the world strikes a deep chord - whether he’s pointing out the problems of using the wrong vocabulary in a German branch of Pizza Hut, confessing his uncontrollable urge to tidy up the shelves at Primark or revealing his near-pathological hatred of open-toed footwear. His ability to find humour in almost any subject is frequently showcased on Radio 5Live’s Fighting Talk. Alongside Jimmy Carr, Ian made such an impact in the sell-out Britcom show at Montreal’s Just For Laughs that he was invited to headline the festival's finale. Despite his popularity in Canada and Britain, he actually spends much of his time in France - where he’s little understood.

Drinks and live music with Marcel and Matt Marcel & Matt's passion for music and entertainment is obvious from the first note. This vibrant, acoustic guitar and vocal duo pride themselves on their ability to entertain all ages, serving up Bob Marley and Bill Withers alongside the latest chart-toppers by Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and Adele. Marcel and Matt have performed at a wide variety of distinguished venues across the South East and further afield, including The Haymarket Hotel, Newland Hall, Eight Members Club, Barnsley House, Hornington Manor and The Bishops Palace.
