Railway history •

Origins in 1850's as a 2' 3” gauge horse tramway to export slate

Passenger services from early 1870's, between Machynlleth & Corris

Acquired by Imperial Tramways in 1878, prospered until early 20th C.

Slate trade declined, road competition increased

Acquired by GWR in 1930, closed on nationalisation in 1948





The Revival •

1996 Corris Railway Society formed

1970 Corris Railway Museum opened

1971 ‘Demonstration track’ laid

1981 Maespoeth engine shed acquired

1985 ‘First train back to Corris’

2002 Passenger services resumed

2005 Tattoo class locomotive delivered

Aim to improve flexibility of working, and facilitate maintenance of the Tattoo loco

Based on original Corris No.3 built in 1878, now on the Tallyllyn Railway

New drawings completed in 2009
